**4.1 / 5** — Our Toolkit Score for Cal.com: a generous free plan and deep team routing, held back by thin support and inconsistent docs.

- **$0** — Free plan for one user, no time limit
- **$12/user/mo** — Teams, billed yearly ($16 monthly)
- **750 credits** — per Teams member a month for SMS and AI

## The verdict, in one line

Cal.com is a scheduling platform that gives a single user almost everything for free and then charges per seat once a team needs to share the work. The free plan covers unlimited event types, calendars and bookings, two-way Salesforce and HubSpot sync and a one-click Calendly import. **The paid plans are where the depth lives**: round robin, routing forms, custom workflows, and, on Organizations, attribute routing, SAML SSO and the compliance paperwork larger buyers ask for. It is a strong pick for sales, support and recruiting teams that route meetings. The catch? Messaging and the AI phone agent run on credits, and the HIPAA agreement has its own price rule.

One more thing changed this year, and it changes how you should read older reviews. Since April 2026 the commercial Cal.com is closed source. Much of what was written about it before that point, including a good share of Cal.com's own blog, still describes a product you could inspect and self-host in full. That is no longer the offer. The free, self-hostable code now lives in a separate project called Cal.diy, with most team features removed. We cover what that means for buyers below. The short version is that you should judge Cal.com as a hosted service.

## Who Cal.com is for, and who should skip it

Cal.com fits best where **bookings have to land on the right person automatically**. A sales team routing inbound demos by territory, a support desk spreading calls across agents, a recruiting team that needs one interviewer from each of two pools: those are the jobs round robin, routing forms and CRM ownership lookups were built for. A solo consultant also does well here, because the free plan is unusually generous and the Companion apps for phone, browser and desktop come with every plan. Cal.com says it passed one million verified users and twenty million bookings in June 2026, so it is not a niche tool.

Who should look elsewhere? Businesses that sell services to walk-in clients, such as salons, studios and tutors, will find tools like Acuity built around packages, classes and deposits. Small clinics need to price the HIPAA rule before they commit, because a signed agreement is not free below fifteen users. Buyers who want the old promise of a fully open, self-hosted Cal.com will not get it from Cal.diy, which leaves out teams, routing and workflows. And anyone who needs phone support should know it is not on the menu below Enterprise.

> 💡 **Pay yearly once the team settles:** Teams costs $12 per user a month billed yearly against $16 monthly, a 25% saving. Use the 14-day trial and a few monthly cycles first, then switch.

Calendly is the obvious comparison. Its own free plan covers one event type and one connected calendar, and its Teams plan costs $16 per seat a month billed annually. Calendly also says it does not currently comply with HIPAA. Cal.com's free tier is broader and its team tier is cheaper per seat, while Calendly still sits above it in our scheduling ranking. Our [Cal.com vs Calendly comparison](/articles/cal-com-vs-calendly) works through the details.

## What you pay: four plans and the credits on top

Cal.com sells four tiers, all priced per user in US dollars [1]. Free is for one person and has no time limit. Teams adds shared scheduling for one team, Organizations adds sub-teams, attribute routing and the compliance controls, and Enterprise is negotiated with sales on an annual contract. The pricing page shows the yearly rates, while the homepage lists the monthly ones.

| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Credits per member a month |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free (1 user) | $0 | $0 | 0 (can be bought) |
| Teams | $12 per user a month | $16 per user a month | 750 |
| Organizations | $28 per user a month | $37 per user a month | 1,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom, annual | Custom, annual | Unlimited |

### What a team really pays

Teams and Organizations both start with a 14-day free trial. Yearly billing on Teams saves exactly 25%, which adds up quickly. A ten-person team on Teams pays $1,440 a year on yearly billing and $1,920 a year on monthly billing, by our arithmetic, a gap of $480. The same ten people on Organizations pay $3,360 a year billed yearly. Seats are counted either by the peak number of members in the billing cycle or by members who hosted or attended a booking, with a minimum commitment. Under the peak rule, a team that grows from 10 to 15 and drops back to 12 pays for 15 seats. Fees are billed in advance and are non-refundable except where the terms or the law say otherwise.

### Credits and Cal Pay, the costs that are not on the plan grid

Text messages, WhatsApp messages and the Cal.ai phone agent all draw on credits, and one credit is worth one cent [45]. Messages are charged at Twilio's regional rate plus an 80% processing fee, in every country, including the US and Canada. Teams includes 750 credits per member each month, or $7.50 of messaging, and Organizations 1,000. When credits run out, reminders quietly fall back to email. Payments carry their own fees. Cal Pay, the built-in processor run by Whop, is on by default, and Cal.com's worked example shows a $55.00 booking losing $6.12 to fees, about 11%, while Stripe and PayPal remain available. Our [Cal.com pricing guide](/articles/cal-com-pricing) has the full breakdown.

## The April 2026 license change, and what it means for buyers

On April 14, 2026, Cal.com announced that its commercial product was going closed source after five years in the open, and the next day it moved the production code into a private repository [218]. The single reason it gave is security: AI tools can now scan open source code for vulnerabilities at scale. What remained public was renamed Cal.diy and relicensed from AGPL 3.0 to MIT. Cal.com says the production codebase had already diverged significantly, including rewrites of authentication and data handling, and Cal.diy is now maintained by former Cal.com interns while the company's engineers work on the commercial product.

### Cal.diy is not a free copy of Cal.com

Cal.diy keeps the scheduling engine, the app store framework, booking flows, API v2, webhooks, Zapier and CRM apps, and paid, seated and recurring events. It drops teams, round robin, collective and managed events, organizations, routing forms, workflows, Insights, SAML SSO, SCIM, Cal Video recordings and audit logs. **Cal.com says Cal.diy is strictly for personal, non-production use** and does not guarantee its security. A company that wants to run Cal.com on its own servers now buys enterprise on-premises hosting through sales.

For a buyer the practical meaning is simple. You are choosing a hosted service, with the usual trust questions: who holds your data, what the contract says, and what happens if prices change. Even the hobby route assumes technical help, since Cal.diy needs Node.js 18 or newer and PostgreSQL 13 or newer and no one at Cal.com answers for it. Pages that still call Cal.com open source, including routing and comparison pages on its own site, are out of date.

## Scheduling depth: round robin, routing and workflows

### Round robin with real controls

Round robin on Cal.com is more than a simple rotation. Each host gets a priority, medium by default, and among equals the least recently booked person gets the meeting. Optional weights let one rep take more bookings than another, and they count only confirmed bookings. Round-robin groups pick one host from each pool for every booking, such as a sales rep plus a solutions engineer, and fixed hosts can join every meeting while the others rotate. Admins can reassign a booking to another member without cancelling it, and since August 2026 attendees can pick a different round-robin host when they reschedule.

### Routing that explains itself

Routing forms arrive with Teams and qualify visitors before they reach a calendar. Organizations add attribute routing: tag members by country, language, department or seniority, weight them per attribute, and set a fallback group when nobody matches. The Salesforce integration can send a lead straight to its account owner, and when several accounts match, a waterfall of nine tiebreaker rules picks one before round robin takes over. Every routed booking records a routing trace that shows admins why a host was chosen. That is a feature RevOps teams usually have to build themselves. Headless routing lets you keep your own web forms and pass answers in through URL parameters.

### Workflows, and the Free plan limit

Workflows send emails, texts, WhatsApp messages or a Cal.ai phone call when something happens: a booking, a cancellation, a reschedule, a routing form submitted without a booking, a payment or a no-show. In September 2026 Workflows 2.0 replaced the form editor with a visual canvas for everyone. **On Free, though, workflows are limited to the default reminder email with no customization**, a restriction Cal.com introduced in January 2025 after custom templates were abused for phishing. WhatsApp messages cannot be customized on any plan, and automatic translation of attendee messages needs Organizations.

## AI: a phone agent, call notes and a calendar agent

Cal.com's main AI product is Cal.ai, a voice agent that lives inside workflows. It can confirm, book, reschedule, cancel and follow up on meetings by phone at any hour, leave a voicemail or retry when nobody answers, and log transcripts, completion rates and sentiment. It is available on every plan, but it is metered. Calls cost 29 credits, or $0.29, a minute, test calls included, and Cal.com sells only US numbers at $5 a month; other countries import a Twilio number, and calls reach eleven countries. At that rate a Teams member's monthly allowance covers about 25 minutes of calls, by our arithmetic, before anything else uses those credits. Budget for it.

The rest of the AI layer is newer and thinner. Cal.com Notes turns transcribed Cal Video calls into summaries saved to the booking, rolling out through a waitlist and only on paid plans. Cal.ai returned to the app store in September 2026 as a calendar agent that acts on event titles. Cal.com Agents let you manage your agenda from Slack, Telegram, email or a command-line tool, and an AI chat can draft routing forms from a description. Booking pages also expose tools that browser-based AI agents can use. It is a broad set. Some of it is still early.

> 💡 **Watch your credit balance:** SMS, WhatsApp and Cal.ai calls draw on credits. When they run out, reminders fall back to email, so read the low-balance emails admins receive and top up before busy weeks.

## Integrations, API and the Companion apps

The app store lists more than 100 apps. Google, Outlook, Apple and Zoho calendars sync in real time; Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cal Video and more than 20 other tools handle conferencing; Salesforce and HubSpot sync both ways, with routing on CRM ownership; and Zapier and Make cover the long tail. Paid bookings run through Stripe, PayPal or Cal Pay. Insights, the analytics dashboard, reports completed, rescheduled and cancelled meetings, no-show rates and CSAT, filtered by team or member and exportable as CSV.

For developers, API v2 is the only REST API left; API v1 was shut down on April 8, 2026. API keys allow 120 requests a minute by default, and OAuth clients need approval from a Cal.com admin before they work. Webhooks cover more than 20 triggers and can be signed with a secret key. A hosted MCP server connects AI assistants such as Claude to an account. Two warnings for builders: the legacy Platform offering for white-label use has taken no new sign-ups since December 15, 2025, and the Atoms React components are in maintenance mode.

The Companion apps arrived in January 2026 and are free on every plan: iOS and Android apps, extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, and desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux. They need a Cal.com account, so they are a window onto the hosted service rather than a separate product. For a solo user on the free plan, that means checking and sharing availability from a phone or a browser tab costs nothing extra. An older FAQ line saying there is no mobile app is out of date.

## Security, compliance and the BAA rule

Cal.com states compliance with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR, CCPA and HIPAA, with data encrypted in transit and at rest. Its security page offers a DPA, the SOC 2 report, the ISO certificate and a penetration test report, and hosting is available in the US and the EU. Accounts lock after ten failed login attempts, and two-factor authentication is supported. The organization-level controls, SAML SSO, SCIM and audit logs, start at Organizations.

### Why the BAA rule decides the plan

Healthcare teams need a signed business associate agreement before they collect protected health information. **The BAA is free on Enterprise and on Organizations with 15 or more users; Teams and smaller Organizations pay $300 a month for it** [329]. That turns into odd arithmetic. A five-person practice on Teams pays $720 a year in seats plus $3,600 for the BAA, or $4,320 in all. At fifteen people, Teams plus the BAA costs $5,760 a year, while Organizations costs $5,040 with the agreement included, by our arithmetic. Past that line, the bigger plan is the cheaper one. Cal.com also makes customers responsible for checking that their third-party integrations are HIPAA compliant. Check them first. Older pages tying HIPAA to Enterprise only are outdated.

> ⚠ **The BAA is not free below fifteen:** Teams and Organizations under 15 users pay $300 a month for a HIPAA business associate agreement. At fifteen users Organizations becomes cheaper than Teams plus the BAA.

## Support, reliability and what users say

Support runs through email and the help center, which the terms name as the official channels. Enterprise adds dedicated onboarding, priority support over Slack Connect and an uptime commitment of 99.9%, with 99.99% as an option, but an SLA applies only when it is written into a signed order form. There is no phone line. The documentation is large and developer-friendly, but it is inconsistent: we found dozens of contradictions between Cal.com's own pages, from an outdated $15 team price in the FAQ to the HIPAA plan rules. When pages disagree, trust the newer one.

Reliability has had public bumps. A redesigned bookings page released on November 14, 2025 had usability problems and was rolled back, and Cal.com now requires features to be finished two days before release. On January 27, 2026, a new booking search ran a heavy query on every page load, degrading the platform and causing full downtime for some enterprise customers; Google Calendar sync also failed when the API quota ran out. Cal.com published detailed reviews of both. That openness counts for something.

**What users rate it, by platform**

| Platform | Rating | Reviews | As of |
|---|---|---|---|

_Rendered from our current record; these are other platforms' user scores, separate from our own Toolkit Score._

User sentiment is the strongest part of the picture. Ratings on G2, Trustpilot and Product Hunt are all positive, and Cal.com has no Capterra listing to compare against. Three platforms pointing the same way is a meaningful signal, because each draws a different crowd, from business software buyers to early adopters. We read the ratings as a sign that the core scheduler works well for the people who chose it. They are not proof that support will be fast when something breaks, and the incident history above is the better guide to that question.

## How we score Cal.com

We read the pricing page from the United States in October 2026, the help center, the developer documentation, the compliance and security pages, the changelog and the incident reviews, and we checked each claim against the page that supports it. We did not buy a plan or run Cal.com with real bookings. Where Cal.com's pages disagree, we followed the newer and more specific page. The score uses our scheduling rubric, and the reasoning for each axis sits on the card below.

**Our scorecard — 4.1/5**
- Capability & depth: 4.4/5 — The deepest feature set in the category: unlimited event types and bookings on Free, round robin by weights, priorities or least recently booked, round-robin groups and fixed hosts, collective, managed, recurring, seated and instant event types, routing forms with attribute-based routing and a routing trace, workflows with conditional paths (v6.9), Cal Video with recording and transcripts, Stripe, PayPal and Cal Pay payments, ticketed Cal Events and Insights. Held back by several of these being Organizations-only (attribute routing, per-host locations, event type history, auto-translation), custom domains and SMTP still on a waitlist, and Cal Events without API, recurrence or no-show tracking.
- Ease of use: 3.8/5 — A generous Free plan with no usage limits, one-click Calendly import, Companion apps for iOS, Android, desktop and four browsers, and a monthly release cadence that keeps fixing the booking page. Held back by a crowded settings surface, a 2026 renaming of event types to Links next to a separate Events product, and public pages that still contradict each other (FAQ says there is no mobile app and quotes $15 for Teams).
- AI: 4.0/5 — Cal.ai phone agent inside workflows at $0.29 a minute (29 credits), a hosted MCP server at mcp.cal.com with OAuth, Cal.com Agents for Slack, Telegram, email and a CLI, an AI assistant that drafts routing forms, and AI call summaries (Notes). Held back by Notes being waitlist-only, Cal.ai numbers sold only in the US ($5 a month), calls limited to 11 countries and every test call consuming credits.
- Value for money: 4.2/5 — Free covers full individual scheduling including two-way Salesforce and HubSpot sync and Stripe or PayPal payments; Teams costs $12 per user a month billed yearly or $16 monthly, Organizations $28 or $37 with SSO, SCIM and a free HIPAA BAA from 15 users, and both have a 14-day trial. Held back by SMS, WhatsApp and Cal.ai billed as credits (Twilio cost plus an 80% fee), a $300 monthly BAA for Teams and smaller Organizations, Cal Pay fees, and fees that are non-refundable under the Terms.
- Integrations: 4.2/5 — 100+ App Store apps (24 conferencing, 21 automation, 9 calendars, 6 CRM), deep Salesforce routing with fuzzy domain matching and a tiebreaker waterfall, HubSpot owner routing, Zapier and Make, 20+ webhook triggers signed with HMAC, API v2 at 120 requests a minute, OAuth with scopes and React Atoms. Held back by API v1 shut down on April 8, 2026, the Platform offering closed to new customers since December 2025, Atoms in maintenance mode and HubSpot field writes needing a HubSpot beta.
- Docs & learning resources: 3.6/5 — About 125 help articles and full developer docs with Markdown twins and llms.txt indexes, an API v2 reference, a monthly changelog with dated versions and incident reviews. Held back by many public pages still describing Cal.com as open source after the April 2026 license change, an FAQ with outdated prices and mobile-app answers, and plan rules for the HIPAA BAA that differ across four pages.
- Support & reliability: 3.4/5 — SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA claims with a downloadable report bundle, an annual external penetration test, a 99.9% SLA and Slack Connect support on Enterprise, and public incident reviews. Held back by support for non-Enterprise plans limited to email and the help center, SLAs only through a signed agreement, a January 27, 2026 database incident that took some enterprise customers fully down, and Cal.diy self-hosting marked personal, non-production use only.
- User sentiment: 4.6/5 — Strong on every platform with 30+ reviews (14 October 2026): G2 4.6 from 154, Trustpilot TrustScore 4.5 from 428 (a recent sample of 100 reviews has 84 five-star and 3 one-star) and Product Hunt 4.8 from 86. Capterra has no listing. Axis score 4.6: the mean of each platform owner's displayed rating with at least 30 reviews, weighted by review count (G2 4.6 (154); Trustpilot 4.5 (428); Product Hunt 4.8 (86); 668 reviews in all), with Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice counted once as Gartner.

That puts Cal.com at **4.1/5**, below Calendly and above Setmore, Acuity, YouCanBookMe and TidyCal in our scheduling category. It scores highest on what users report and on scheduling capability, where round robin, routing traces and CRM ownership put it ahead of most of the category. It scores lowest on support, which stays email-only below Enterprise, and on documentation, where outdated pages still contradict the current plans. Value and integrations sit in between, pulled up by the free plan and the two-way CRM sync.

## FAQ

**Is Cal.com worth it?**

For solo users the free plan is hard to beat, and for teams that route meetings by owner, territory or skill the paid plans offer more control than most rivals. It is weaker on support, which runs by email below Enterprise.

**Is Cal.com free?**

Yes, for one user. The free plan has unlimited event types, calendars and bookings, but no round robin, no custom workflows and no included credits.

**How much does Cal.com cost for a team?**

Teams costs $12 per user a month billed yearly or $16 monthly, and Organizations $28 yearly or $37 monthly. Enterprise is priced by sales on an annual contract.

**Is Cal.com still open source?**

No. Since April 2026 the commercial Cal.com is closed source. The MIT-licensed community edition is Cal.diy, which leaves out teams, routing forms and workflows and is meant for personal, non-production use.

**Is Cal.com HIPAA compliant?**

It can be, with a signed BAA. The BAA is free on Enterprise and on Organizations with 15 or more users, and costs $300 a month on Teams and smaller Organizations.

**Does Cal.com have a mobile app?**

Yes. The Companion apps for iOS and Android, browser extensions and desktop apps launched in January 2026 and are free on every plan.

## The bottom line

Pick Cal.com if you want a free scheduler that does not feel crippled, or if your team needs bookings routed to the right person with round robin, routing forms and CRM ownership. Start on Free for one person, move to Teams at $12 per user a month billed yearly when you need shared scheduling and custom workflows, and choose Organizations for attribute routing, SSO or a free BAA at fifteen users and up. Budget for credits if you lean on texts or the AI phone agent. Skip it if you need phone support, a truly open self-hosted product, or service-business tools like packages and classes.
