Canva for Nonprofits gives registered nonprofits Canva's premium features for free, for a team of up to 50 people. For organisations that
communicate a lot and spend little, that is one of the most valuable free offers in software. This guide explains who qualifies, what the plan
includes, how to apply, how the AI allowance and add-ons work, and what to do if you are bigger than 50 or are turned down. Everything comes from
Canva's own pages, read on 9 October 2026.

## The short answer

Registered nonprofits, charities, NGOs and qualifying social-impact or public-health organisations can get all of Canva Pro's premium features plus
team tools for one team of up to 50 users, free [23] [24]. Extra seats beyond that are 50% off on Canva Enterprise [23]. Applications
are usually answered within 72 hours [23].

> 💡 **undefined:** Apply with an email on your organisation's domain.

## What the plan includes

Canva's nonprofit page describes it as "100% free for registered nonprofits, NGOs, and social impact organizations with up to 50 users" and says it
includes all Canva Pro premium features plus team collaboration tools [24]. The pricing page FAQ adds the scope: "Nonprofits can get a free
subscription with all the premium features of Canva Pro, plus team and collaboration tools, for one team of up to 50 users." [2] The help
centre lists access to Affinity for professional photo editing, layout and illustration [23].

In practice that means the premium library of 3.6M+ templates and 141M+ stock items, Brand Kits, Content Planner scheduling, and the Pro AI
allowance, for every member of the team [2].

## What it is worth

At Business list prices in the US, 50 seats would cost US$12,500 a year; on Pro, which is for one person only, a comparable set of separate accounts
would cost US$7,200. Our arithmetic on Canva's pricing page [2]. Canva for Nonprofits is closer to Pro in features than to Business: it does not
include Business-only tools such as Canva Grow ad insights.

> 💡 **undefined:** Switch off AI training before uploading beneficiary material.

## Who qualifies

The programme is "intended for registered nonprofits, charities, and qualifying social-impact or public-health organizations" [23]. Eligibility
depends on the country, and Canva publishes guidelines listing the accepted organisation types and documents for each [23]. You apply under a
category such as Registered Nonprofit, Social Impact Organisation or Public Health Organisation [23].

## What nonprofits use it for

Canva's nonprofit page lists the typical work: planning in whiteboards, designing campaigns, building reports and scheduling social posts,
with small teams keeping the brand consistent [24]. Its pitch is direct: "Less spending on design, more spending on mission."
[24] The common outputs are fundraising appeals, event posters, impact reports, grant presentations, newsletters and volunteer
recruitment posts.

> ⚠ **undefined:** Nonprofit content is not excluded from AI training by default.

## How to apply

Make sure your Canva account has a valid email address, ideally on your organisation's domain [23]. If you chose "Non-profit or charity" at sign-up,
Canva shows a homepage alert for 30 days with a link to the application; otherwise apply from Billing in Settings by selecting the option to upgrade to
Canva for Nonprofits [23]. Read the programme terms, complete the verification, and upload a document accepted for your country.

## How long it takes, and why it gets rejected

Canva reviews applications and replies by email within 72 hours in most cases; verifying a person's affiliation with the organisation can take longer
[23]. The common reasons for rejection are the wrong category, a document type not accepted in your country, or weak proof that you work for the
organisation. The fixes are to reapply under the right category with an organisation-domain email, and to provide a signed letter of affiliation, a
volunteer ID or another document showing your name, role and organisation [23]. If you believe you were rejected in error, contact Canva with your
application details [23].

> ⚠ **undefined:** Business-only tools such as Grow are not included.

## Setting up the team

Invite colleagues by email from the People page; each invitee needs a Canva account on the same address [19]. Assign an owner and at least one
admin, so the team survives staff turnover. Admins manage members, Brand Kits and Brand Controls [120]. Plan the 50 places. Carefully: volunteers who design
once a year may be better served by share links than by a seat.

## Brand consistency for small comms teams

Nonprofits often have one communications lead and many volunteers. Brand Kits keep logos, colours and fonts in one place, and Brand Controls restrict
members to the kit [40]. Design approvals can require review before publishing [121]. Set these up before inviting volunteers. Not after.

## Social media and campaigns

Scheduling posts with Content Planner is available to Canva for Nonprofits administrators and brand designers [33], and Nonprofits team admins can
reschedule and delete scheduled posts [138]. Content Planner covers Facebook Pages, Instagram Business, LinkedIn, Pinterest and other platforms,
with up to 80 accounts per user on paid plans [33]. For appeals, events and annual reports, the template library and Bulk Create save the most time
[95].

## AI on Canva for Nonprofits

The nonprofit plan has Pro's allowance: up to 200 Premium AI uses or 20 Ultra uses a month per person, with Standard tools such as Translate and Magic
Write unmetered [4]. The allowance resets on the billing date [4]. AI Pass is available on Nonprofits plans and gives 40 times more AI, at US$100
per person per month [5]; for most charities, the base allowance is enough. Start there.

## What is not included

The nonprofit plan mirrors Pro, so Business-only features are absent. Canva Grow, the ad insights tool, is part of Business [114]. Embedding
Flourish interactive charts in designs requires Business or Enterprise, or a paid Flourish subscription [115]. AI top-ups are a Business
purchase [6]. Most nonprofits will not miss these. Some will; an organisation that runs paid social campaigns or publishes interactive data
stories should price Business or Flourish separately.

## Multilingual communities

Many nonprofits serve communities in several languages. Translate converts designs into more than 100 languages, within a 2,000-character
limit per run [122], and on the nonprofit plan it is a Standard AI tool that does not use the monthly allowance [4]. A flyer for a
clinic or a food bank can go out in three languages from one design. At no cost.

## Data, privacy and AI training

Unlike Education, nonprofit content is not excluded from AI training by default. Canva's privacy policy allows it to use content to train its models, with a
setting to opt out in privacy controls [47]. Organisations handling beneficiary data or safeguarding material should switch that setting off before
uploading anything and keep personal data out of designs where possible.

## Licensing for fundraising and merchandise

Fundraising merchandise is a common nonprofit use. Canva's licence allows you to use free and Pro content in original designs for sale, such as printed
merchandise, but not to sell Canva content on its own [42]. Pro content is licensed for a single design [43]. If you use a print-on-demand service
that requires you to own the copyright in every element, you cannot use Canva content in those designs [44].

## Websites and donation pages

Canva can publish a website or a link-in-bio page from the editor to a free Canva address [118]. Canva's help article on connecting your
own domain lists Pro, Teams, Business and Education users [119] and does not name Canva for Nonprofits, so test a custom domain before
relying on it for a campaign site. A simple event page or appeal page on a free address works on any plan.

## Personal and team Brand Kits

Nonprofits often run sub-brands: a gala, a campaign, a regional chapter. Brand Kits on the team keep each consistent, and on team plans admins
can let members keep a private personal Brand Kit separate from the organisation's [41]. Decide early which kit is official. Lock it with
Brand Controls.

## Printed materials for events

Canva Print delivers printed materials within the same country, or within the same region in Europe [76], with automated proofing before an
order and longer delivery times for banners and yard signs [75]. The 10% print discount is a Business feature [2], so nonprofit teams
pay list price. Order early for events. Really early. Canva says delivery can take longer to rural addresses [75].

## Disney templates

Canva has offered Disney-themed templates and elements to Canva for Nonprofits accounts, among others, in certain territories since 18 October
2024 [43]. In the United States, printed merchandise made with them is allowed "for personal or educational purposes only" [43]. That
rules out selling Disney-themed items at a fundraiser. Use them for events and education only. Never for sales.

## Affinity for nonprofits

Canva has pledged to keep Affinity, its professional design app, free for nonprofits [56], and the nonprofit plan includes access to it [23]. For a
team that occasionally needs print-ready layouts or vector work, that replaces a paid desktop licence.

## The Affinity pledge

When Canva acquired Affinity, it published four pledges to the Affinity community, among them "keeping Affinity free for schools and nonprofits"
[56], and a commitment to "fair, transparent and affordable pricing, including the perpetual licenses that have made Affinity special"
[56]. For a nonprofit, that turns a professional desktop design suite into a free tool for annual reports and print work.

## Larger nonprofits

The free plan covers one team of up to 50 members [23]. Larger organisations can buy additional seats at 50% off Canva Enterprise [24], which also
brings SSO, data residency in the US or EU, and more brand controls [70] [71]. Canva does not publish Enterprise prices, so a large charity should
request a quote and compare it with a mix of the free team and separate Pro accounts for specialists.

## How it compares

Piktochart's nonprofit plan costs US$60 per member a year [90], about US$3,000 for 50 people; our arithmetic. Visme runs a separate nonprofit programme
[111]. We did not find a matching free nonprofit plan in the Adobe Express pricing summary we could read [97]. On price, Canva's free team of 50
is the strongest offer among the tools we track. By far.

## Other tools nonprofits use

Visme runs a nonprofit programme focused on branded and educational content, infographics showing where donations go, and newsletters and
letterheads from a brand kit [111]. Piktochart's Nonprofit plan, at US$60 per member a year, includes unlimited PNG, PDF and PowerPoint
downloads, a limited Brand Kit, 250 AI credits and 100GB of storage [90]. Both are reasonable for infographic-heavy work; neither matches
a free team of 50.

## Beyond 50 people

A worked example: a federation with 60 regular designers. Fifty can sit on the free nonprofit team; the other ten need either Enterprise seats at
50% off [24], whose price Canva does not publish, or separate paid accounts. Ten Pro accounts would cost US$1,440 a year at US list price;
our arithmetic [2]. Separate accounts lose the shared workspace, so put occasional designers on share links and keep the 50 team places for
people who design every month.

## A worked example: a 12-person charity

A charity with a communications manager, two fundraisers and nine regular volunteers applies with its registration certificate and an email on its own domain,
and is approved within three days. The manager sets up a Brand Kit with Brand Controls, turns on design approvals, and switches off AI training in privacy
settings. Volunteers produce event posters from a locked template; the fundraisers schedule the appeal across Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn from Content
Planner. At Business list prices, the same twelve seats would cost US$3,000 a year; our arithmetic [2].

## Common pitfalls

- Applying under the wrong category, or with a personal email address [23].
- Giving every occasional volunteer a seat and running out of the 50.
- Leaving AI training on while uploading beneficiary material [47].
- Using a print-on-demand service that requires copyright ownership [44].
- Having a single admin who then leaves the organisation.

## FAQ

**Is Canva free for nonprofits?**

Yes. Registered nonprofits get Canva Pro's premium features plus team tools for one team of up to 50 users, free.

**How long does Canva nonprofit approval take?**

Canva replies by email within 72 hours in most cases; verifying affiliation can take longer.

## Our verdict

Canva for Nonprofits is an outstanding offer: Pro's features and team tools for up to 50 people at no cost, with Affinity included. Apply with an
organisation-domain email and the right document, set up brand controls before volunteers arrive, switch off AI training, and keep the 50 seats for
people who design every month.
