# Canva Review 2026: The Easiest Editor, Priced Per Person

> An evidence-based Canva review: the editor non-designers publish with, Pro at US$144 a year in the US, Business per person, AI metered in three tiers, refunds the exception, and a 60-day notice promise the contract trims to 30.

Canva is the tool people reach for when something has to be published and there is no designer in the
room: a social post, a pitch deck, a flyer, a YouTube thumbnail, a one-page report. That is the job our
design category scores against, and it is the job Canva does better than anything else we have looked at.
The weaker side is not the editor. It is the bill, the exit, and the AI meter that sits underneath both.

Our composite score for Canva is 4.14, the first product we have scored in the design category. Every
figure below comes from Canva's own pages, read for the United States market on 9 October 2026, or from
our arithmetic on them, labelled as ours. Canva blocks automated requests from servers, so we fetched its
pages from a desktop machine with the US market selected and stored each one with the address it was
served from.

## What Canva is

Canva began as a template editor and is now a set of tools that share one account and one file system:
designs, presentations, Docs, Sheets, whiteboards, video, websites and print orders. The pricing page
lists more than 1,000 design types on the free plan alone [2]. Canva also owns Affinity, the
professional photo, vector and layout application, and gives it away free with any Canva account; paid
plans add Canva's AI tools inside it [55]. The scale is large. Canva told TechCrunch it ended 2025
with more than 265 million monthly users, over 31 million of them paying, and US$4 billion in annual
recurring revenue [80].

What Canva is not: a UI or product-design tool. Prototyping software screens, design systems and
developer handoff belong to Figma, which we compare separately. Canva's own developer surface is real,
with REST APIs and an apps SDK, but it exists to bring Canva into other products, not to replace a
design engineer's tooling [57].

## The four plans, in one paragraph each

**Free** is for one person and includes the editor, 1.6M+ templates, 4.7M+ photos, videos, graphics and
audio, one Brand Kit limited to three colors, 5GB of storage, access to Affinity, and up to 20 uses a
month of Standard or Premium AI tools [2].

**Pro** is also for one person. In the US it costs US$144 a year or US$18 a month before tax. It adds the
premium library (3.6M+ templates, 141M+ stock items), AI tools such as resize, translate and background
removal, five Brand Kits, social scheduling, 100GB of storage, and ten times the Free AI allowance
[2]. The pricing page's FAQ is plain about the limit: "Only one person can use a Canva Pro
account." [2]

**Business** is priced per person: US$250 a year or US$25 a month, with no seat minimum. It adds team
administration, 100 Brand Kits with approvals, ad performance insights, Flourish for interactive charts,
a 10% print discount, 500GB of storage and twenty times the Free AI allowance [2].

**Enterprise** is quote-only and adds SSO and SCIM provisioning, custom apps, 1,000 Brand Kits with
tiered approvals, 1TB of storage, audit logs and IP indemnity [2].

Two plans cost nothing for the right organisation. Canva Education is free for eligible K-12 teachers,
their students and school districts [25], and nonprofits can get "a free subscription with all the
premium features of Canva Pro" for one team of up to 50 users [2].

## More than a design editor

Three parts of Canva get less attention than the templates and matter to a small business.

**Docs and Sheets.** Canva Docs is a visual document editor, and Canva says it "is and will forever be
free to access and use" on Free, Teams, Education and Enterprise accounts [73]. Canva Sheets is a
spreadsheet built for content: rows of data become bulk designs, Magic Charts suggests a chart, and Magic
Formulas writes formulas from a plain-language request [74]. For a team that produces fifty product
cards or event posters from one list, that is the feature that saves the afternoon.

**Brand Kits and Brand Controls.** A Brand Kit stores a team's logos, colors, fonts and assets, and anyone in
the team can use them from inside the editor. Brand Controls go further and restrict members to the kit's
colors and fonts [40]. Free has one kit with three colors, Pro five, Business 100 with approvals
[2].

**Print.** Canva prints and delivers what you design, with automated proofing before the order is placed
[75]. Orders ship within the same country, or within the same region in Europe; the United States
also offers in-store pickup at select stores [76]. Business subscribers get 10% off print orders
[2].

## Who Canva fits

Canva fits the person whose output is visual but whose job title is not designer. In our demand data the
largest single use is social media: searches for YouTube thumbnails, Instagram templates and social post
templates add up to roughly 23,500 a month, more than any other audience we measured for Canva. The
second is education, about 20,000 a month across teachers, students and educators. Both groups need
speed and a template that is already 80% right, and both are well served.

It also fits a small team that needs to stay on brand without a brand manager. Brand Kits hold colors,
fonts and logos; Business adds approvals so a draft can be checked before it goes out [40]. And it
fits anyone who has to produce many variants of one design: bulk creation from a spreadsheet, resizing
for every channel, translation into other languages.

## Who should look elsewhere

A product designer building software interfaces should use Figma; Canva has no component-driven
prototyping or developer handoff of the kind Figma is built around [86]. A print shop or an
illustrator who needs full control over vectors, color profiles and layout will want Affinity itself,
which Canva includes, or Adobe's professional apps. And a team that needs dozens of seats on a tight
budget should do the arithmetic first: Business has no published volume discount, so cost rises in a
straight line with headcount.

> 💡 **undefined:** Count people who edit, not people who view.

## Ease of use: the reason Canva won

Canva's editor is the benchmark for "open it and start." Templates are organised by output (Instagram
post, presentation, poster), the canvas snaps elements into alignment, and every design can be resized
into another format. The ratings agree. GetApp, part of Gartner Digital Markets, carries 4.73 from 13,458
ratings [78], and the US App Store shows 4.9 from 3,566,983 ratings for the iOS app [79].
In our own Trustpilot sample, reviews about the product itself ran six positive to one negative.

The friction is in the edges. One three-star reviewer in our sample could not fit a text page within the
printable area and found "no wrap option around photos" [77]. Another found that "a lot of things feel
like they're locked behind premium" [77]. Neither complaint is about the core editing loop.

## AI: generous, metered, and per person

Canva's AI is organised into three tiers that share one monthly allowance. Standard tools such as
Translate and Magic Write are unmetered on paid plans; Premium and Ultra tools draw on the allowance at
different rates [4]. Canva publishes estimates per plan: Free and Pro Lite get up to 20 uses of
Standard or Premium tools; Pro gets up to 200 Premium uses or 20 Ultra uses; Business and Enterprise up to
400 Premium or 40 Ultra [4]. Those numbers line up with the pricing page's "10x" and "20x" claims.

Three details matter more than the headline. First, the allowance is per member: "Allowances aren't
shared or pooled across the team or organization." [4] A heavy user cannot borrow a quiet colleague's
budget. Second, trials do not get the plan's allowance: "Canva Pro and Canva Business free trials include
the same size allowance as Canva Free." [11] A trial of Pro will not show you what Pro's AI feels like.
Third, the top of the ladder is expensive. AI Pass gives 40x more AI on Pro and 20x on Business, and "AI
Pass is USD $100 globally per person, per month." [5] Business users can instead buy one-off top-ups
that last 30 days [6].

The newer tools are the most useful for our audience. Magic Layers turns a flat image into an editable
layout [51], and Dream Lab generates images inside the editor [52]. Canva's guidance on
using them commercially is careful: AI output may not give you exclusive rights, and depicting brands or
recognisable characters can infringe [45].

> ⚠ **undefined:** Trials carry the Free AI allowance, not the paid plan's.

## Your content and Canva's models

Canva's privacy policy allows it to analyse "your activity, content, media uploads and related data" to
train its models, and gives a setting in your privacy controls to opt out [47]. Education accounts
are excluded: "We will not use User Content of Canva Education for AI training." [47] The Magic Write
page separately says its model "is not trained on Canva documents or designs" [48]. Both can be true at
once, because they describe different models, but a business with client material should switch the
setting off on the first day and record that it did.

## Licensing: what you can and cannot sell

Canva grants non-exclusive licences to its photos, graphics, fonts, video and music. Pro content is
licensed for use in a single design [43]. You can sell your own designs on merchandise, and you can
design for clients and transfer the result to them. What you cannot do is sell Canva's content as it
stands: "It is never OK to sell Canva Content on a standalone basis" [49]. Templates that contain Pro
content can be sold only as Canva template links [42]. IP indemnity, Canva standing behind its
content if a claim arrives, is an Enterprise feature [2].

> ⚠ **undefined:** Subscriptions are in most cases not refundable.

## Security and data controls

Most of the controls an IT department asks about are Enterprise features. Single sign-on uses SAML 2.0 and
is set up by verifying your company's domain [70]. Data residency lets an organisation choose where new
data is stored, but only on Enterprise, Campus or District plans, and only for the US and the EU; after a
change the setting locks for 30 days [71]. That is a short list. It is also an honest one.

Deleted work is recoverable for a while. Designs sit in Trash for 30 days. After that, Canva asks you to
contact support within 14 days if something was deleted by mistake [93]. Then it is gone.

**Our scorecard — 4.1/5**
- Capability & depth: 4.3/5
- Ease of use: 4.6/5
- AI: 4.0/5
- Value for money: 3.8/5
- Integrations: 3.9/5
- Docs & learning resources: 4.1/5
- Support & reliability: 3.0/5
- User sentiment: 4.1/5

## Integrations and the developer surface

Canva connects outward in four ways. The apps marketplace adds third-party tools inside the editor. Data
connectors pull spreadsheet data into charts and bulk designs. The Connect REST APIs let another product
create, autofill and export Canva designs, and Canva's help centre tells developers to confirm that their
subscription level includes the API function they need [57]. And an AI connector lets assistants such
as Claude work with your designs [61].

Social scheduling is built in through Content Planner, covered below in the support section and in our
social media guide.

> ⚠ **undefined:** AI allowances are per person and never pooled.

## Moving between plans

Upgrading is easy and well signposted; the traps are in the other direction. Switching from Pro to Business
bills you at the Business rate from your next billing date [17]. If you later cancel Business, Pro
does not come back on its own: "If you switch from Pro to Business and then cancel Business, your original
Pro plan is not automatically reinstated." [17] You resubscribe at whatever Pro costs that day.

Designs created inside a team workspace stay in that workspace, and members removed while switching plans
lose access to them, so download anything you need first [17]. A prepaid Pro plan cannot be switched
mid-term; it has to run out or be cancelled [17]. And changing between monthly and yearly billing is
possible only for plans bought on the web with a saved payment method [15].

## Support and the bill

This is where Canva loses points. In our 100-review Trustpilot sample, support was the largest theme,
touching 17 reviews, ten of them one or two stars. Billing touched 11 and cancellation 10, and every one of
those 21 was negative [77]. The pattern is consistent: people were charged after believing they had
cancelled, or asked for a refund and were refused.

Canva's own help centre explains why. "In most cases, Canva subscriptions aren’t refundable, as outlined
in our Terms of Use." [12] Every request is reviewed, and some are granted, but the default is no.
Apple subscriptions are refunded by Apple, not Canva [12]. Charges can appear a day before a trial
ends because "Our billing system runs on UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)." [13]

## Where unexpected charges come from

Canva's help centre lists the usual causes of a charge someone did not expect, and they are worth knowing
before they happen. Signing in with Google, Microsoft or Apple and with an email address can create separate
accounts, each with its own subscription [22]. Some banks keep a subscription alive after a card expires,
through automatic card-update services [22]. A failed payment can go through after several attempts. And
Business teams can receive quarterly bills when members are added or removed, on top of the monthly or
yearly charge [22]. On a statement Canva appears as Canva, Canva with an invoice number, or as an Apple or
Google charge [15].

## Price changes and the promise that came with them

Canva's pricing has moved more than most. In 2024 it ended an old Teams price that covered up to five
people for US$119.99 a year; TechCrunch reported five-person plans moving to US$500 a year, with 40% off
the first year [81]. After the backlash Canva kept the old price for existing Teams customers and
published a Pricing Promise that includes "at least 60 days" of notice before any price change [9].

Two things temper that promise. The Terms of Use, which are the contract, say an increase "will not apply
until your next renewal or thirty (30) days after notice, whichever is later" [10]. And the
published numbers keep moving. Business launched on 30 October 2025 at US$20 per person per month [8]
and is US$25 today. The archived pricing page of 5 August 2026 showed Pro's annual price at US$180
[85]; the page served on 9 October showed US$144 [2].

## How Canva scores

| Axis | Weight | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Capability & depth | 22.9% | 4.3 |
| Ease of use | 22.9% | 4.6 |
| AI | 14.6% | 4.0 |
| Value for money | 14.6% | 3.8 |
| Integrations | 8.3% | 3.9 |
| Docs & learning resources | 8.3% | 4.1 |
| Support & reliability | 4.2% | 3.0 |
| User sentiment | 4.2% | 4.1 |

The weights are our design category's, set before any product was scored: the job is to publish without
a designer, so capability and ease carry nearly half the total. That is why a product with a 3.0 on support
still scores 4.14. If support matters more to you than it does to the average buyer in this category,
weigh that row yourself.

## The pace of change

Canva ships quickly, and that cuts both ways. Its AI tool for building mini apps and websites, launched in
2025, had more than 10 million monthly users by February 2026, according to Canva's chief operating officer,
and the company has introduced lower-priced subscriptions in countries such as Pakistan, Uruguay, Morocco and
Jamaica [80]. The flip side is that plan names, allowances and prices move: Teams became Business, the
AI allowance was rebuilt around Standard, Premium and Ultra tools, and the Business price rose within a year.
Anything you read about Canva, including this review, should be checked against the date at the top.

## The verdict

For one person, Canva is the easy recommendation. The free plan is genuinely usable, Pro at US$144 a year
in the US is less than most single-app subscriptions in this space, and the editor gets a non-designer from
blank page to published post faster than anything else we have scored. For schools and nonprofits it is
free, and the free versions are not stripped down.

For teams, recommend it with the arithmetic attached. Business is priced per person with no volume break,
the AI allowance does not pool, seats removed mid-year are not refunded, and refunds in general are the
exception. Read the trial for what it is, a test of the editor rather than of the AI, and turn off AI
training on your content before you upload anything that is not yours to share.

## FAQ

**How much does Canva cost?**

In the US, Free costs nothing, Pro is US$144 a year or US$18 a month for one person, and Business is US$250 a year or US$25 a month per person, before tax. Enterprise is quoted.

**Can two people share Canva Pro?**

No. Canva Pro is for one person; a second user needs Canva Business, billed per person.

**Does Canva use my designs to train AI?**

Its privacy policy allows content to be used for training, with an opt-out in privacy settings. Canva Education content is excluded.

## Questions to settle before you subscribe

How many people will need their own login, now and in a year? Will you use Premium or Ultra AI tools
weekly, or occasionally? Do you need to sell templates, or only designs? Is any of your content under
client confidentiality? And is the price you see on the pricing page the same one your colleague sees? The
answers decide between Free, Pro and Business more reliably than any feature list.
