Fathom's AI does four jobs, and each one sits behind its own plan gate. After a call it writes the summary, and from Premium it adds AI action items and a follow-up email draft. Across calls, Ask Fathom (beta) answers questions: Free gets it in limited form with no published quota, Premium opens it for your own calls, and team scopes, AI Search and Trackers start at Team. Outside Fathom, the MCP connection to ChatGPT and Claude, the public API and webhooks are included on every plan, Free too [1]. So the verdict is simple. One person who wants the full assistant pays for Premium at $16 per user per month billed annually or $20 billed monthly. Everything else is setup.

**Every plan** — MCP with ChatGPT and Claude, the public API and webhooks are included on every Fathom plan, Free too.

- **5 calls** — Advanced AI summaries a month on Fathom Free
- **60 a minute** — Fathom API calls per user, across all of that user's keys
- **Team** — Lowest Fathom plan for Trackers, AI Search and team-wide Ask Fathom (beta)

## When the call ends: summaries, action items and the recap draft

Every plan gets an automatic summary, and the General/Enhanced template is open to Free users with no cap. The depth lives in the pre-built templates. Fathom lists over 15, including BANT and Sandler, and its help adds SPICED and MEDDPICC for team accounts. On Free, advanced summaries cover your first 5 calls each month; later calls get the General/Enhanced version. Paid plans remove that ceiling. Template customization works only in the web app, not the new desktop app, and on team plans Meeting Types can apply the right template automatically to new calls.

**AI action items and AI follow-up emails start at Premium.** The follow-up email is a draft built from the action items, which you copy into your own email client; Fathom does not send it. Action items can also travel to Asana, though the native sync sends only items assigned to you from calls you recorded. That is the core loop for a rep. The call ends, the summary lands, tasks are listed and the recap is drafted before the next meeting starts.

> 💡 **Set your default template on the web:** Fathom's summary customization works only in the web app, not the new desktop app. Choose a default such as BANT or Sandler there; on Premium and up it applies to new calls (on Free, only to the first 5 calls each month), unless a team Meeting Type sets another template.

### Live summary and the Scratch pad

The new desktop app (Fathom 3.0, with bot-free capture in beta on Mac) adds a live summary that updates while people talk; the older bot-based experience summarizes only after the meeting. Beside it sits a private Scratch pad for your own notes. Handle its @mentions with care. Tagging an external person by email gives that person access to the call, so an @mention works as a share. Windows users run the previous version, which makes the live summary a Mac habit for now.

> ⚠ **Scratch pad mentions share the call:** In Fathom's new desktop app, tagging an external person by email in the Scratch pad gives that person access to the call.

## Asking across many calls: Ask Fathom, AI Search and Trackers

Ask Fathom is a chat box over your recordings. Inside a single call it answers questions about that meeting, with citations that jump to the exact transcript moment. Free gets limited use, with no quota published; Premium includes it. The answers do not persist. History is not saved, so copy anything useful before leaving the recording, and the iOS app, at launch, does not offer Ask Fathom.

Account-wide Ask Fathom, still a beta, searches your whole history by combining keyword search over titles, participants and transcripts with analysis of the summaries. Scope is where the plans split. Free has limited use, Premium is unlimited for My Calls, and Team plans can choose My Calls, Team Calls or All Calls [2]. All Calls never unlocks private or restricted meetings. Paid plans get unlimited lookback on your own calls; Fathom does not publish the team-calls window per tier. Deal data, scorecards and Tracker results stay outside its reach.

Two tools are team-only. **AI Search** finds key moments across recorded meetings, such as pricing objections or competitor mentions, with date filters from 30 days to a year. **Trackers** flag moments by meaning rather than exact words, scan only calls recorded after you create them, and alert by email or in public Slack channels. Team costs $15 per user per month billed annually, with a 2-user minimum.

## Putting your calls inside ChatGPT and Claude with MCP

Since April 2026 Fathom has run an official MCP server, included on every plan [3]. In ChatGPT, Fathom is an official app: connect it, finish the authorization prompts and type @Fathom. In Claude, it is an official connector for web and desktop; in a Claude team or organization an owner must enable it first, and its 7 tools can each be toggled. Claude Code connects through the mcp-remote bridge, which needs Node.js on the machine.

The assistant receives summaries, transcripts and action items, but only from meetings you may already view in Fathom. Access is scoped to the user. A rep's ChatGPT cannot read a manager's private calls. Fathom draws the line this way: account-wide Ask Fathom (beta) for quick answers inside the app, MCP for deliverables outside it or for mixing meeting context with other sources, such as CRM records. Fathom's coaching mission notes that scoring a whole team's calls this way needs Team or Business.

## Building automations: API keys, OAuth apps, webhooks and SDKs

The public REST API is JSON-based and included on every plan; you generate a key in User Settings under API Access. Keys are personal. There are no org-level keys, a key reads only meetings you recorded or that were shared with you or your team, and admins cannot revoke anyone else's key. The API returns summaries in the account's default template, as Markdown and in English, and offers no real-time transcripts.

Plan around the limits first. The cap is 60 calls per minute per user, shared across all of that user's keys, and heavy requests for summaries and transcripts are held to 30 per 60 seconds, dropping to 5 during elevated activity. Fathom offers no higher or seat-based limits [4]. List calls return 10 meetings a page with no bulk endpoint, so backfilling a large library takes patience.

Software that other Fathom users install needs an OAuth app. You register it, receive client credentials and get one scope, public_api; refresh tokens work once and rotate on each refresh. One restriction shapes the design. OAuth apps cannot pull summaries or transcripts inline on the list-meetings call and must fetch them from the recordings endpoints, which count as heavy requests under the tighter limit.

> 💡 **Store OAuth tokens persistently:** The token store built into Fathom's SDKs keeps tokens in memory and is meant for demos. A production OAuth app needs a persistent store so users install it once.

### Webhooks, SDKs and the no-code route

Webhooks come with every plan. Each fires once, when a recording finalizes and its summary is ready, and must carry at least one of transcript, CRM matches, summary or action items. Later edits trigger nothing. The two trigger scopes for team-shared recordings work only on team plans, so on Free and Premium a webhook fires for your own calls. Requests are signed with HMAC-SHA256, and Fathom advises rejecting timestamps older than about 5 minutes.

The TypeScript and Python SDKs are in beta and can ship breaking changes without a major version bump. Pin a version. Without code, Zapier and Make (the automation platform) work on every plan, with limited use on Free and Premium and full use from Team; the Zapier trigger is New AI Summary. On Free, a webhook into your own endpoint avoids that limited-use label for an always-on flow.

## Launchpad missions: Fathom's recipes worth borrowing

Launchpad is Fathom's library of workflow recipes, which it calls missions. They are guides, not product features, pairing Fathom with ChatGPT or Claude through MCP, with Zapier or Make, with n8n on the API, or with a partner app. Fathom says the MCP and API versions run on any plan. Its Sandler mission shows the format: the assistant reads each sales call, writes the summary in Sandler stages, flags any stage the call skipped, and can save the result to a HubSpot or Salesforce deal.

Fathom's other examples show the range. A SPICED team can swap the stages for Situation, Pain, Impact, Critical Event and Decision. The voice-of-customer mission ranks the problems customers raise across external calls, and Fathom suggests running it quarterly across all calls or monthly on recent ones. Lead scoring grades discovery calls A to D on fit, pain, urgency, budget and authority. Fathom also advises scrubbing client names before sharing exported call material. Sound advice.

## Matching the plan to the AI habits you want

| AI job | Lowest Fathom plan |
|---|---|
| Summary with the General/Enhanced template | Free |
| Advanced templates such as BANT and Sandler | Free on the first 5 calls a month; Premium unlimited |
| AI action items and follow-up email drafts | Premium |
| Ask Fathom in one call | Free with limited use (no published quota); Premium |
| Account-wide Ask Fathom on team calls (beta) | Team |
| AI Search and Trackers | Team |
| MCP with ChatGPT and Claude, public API, webhooks | Free |
| Zapier and Make in full | Team |
| AI Scorecards and coaching metrics | Business |

For one person, Premium is the cheapest paid plan at $16 per user per month billed annually, or $20 billed monthly: $192 per user a year billed annually against $240 per user a year billed monthly, by our arithmetic, and monthly billing stays cheaper only if you cancel within 9 months. Team costs $1 less per user per month on either billing term but has a 2-user minimum. Fathom advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee on paid plans without publishing its conditions, while its Terms say fees are non-refundable; our [pricing breakdown](/articles/fathom-pricing) covers both.

Sales leaders who want AI Scorecards, coaching metrics and CRM field sync need Business, at $25 per user per month billed annually or $34 billed monthly with a 2-user minimum. Our guide to [Fathom for sales teams](/articles/fathom-for-sales-teams) walks through that workflow, and the [Fathom review](/articles/fathom-review) covers capture limits and security.

## FAQ

**Does Fathom train its AI on my meetings?**

Fathom may use de-identified meeting data to improve its own models unless you opt out in your settings. It does not let its AI providers, Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, train on your content.

**Can Ask Fathom answer in languages other than English?**

Fathom says Ask Fathom can translate into 29 additional languages. Its API, by contrast, returns summaries and action items in English only.

**How do I export many Fathom transcripts at once?**

Fathom has no bulk API endpoint, so exports page through meetings 10 at a time under the per-user rate limit. Fathom also points to the partner tool TranscriptExporter, and API download links expire about 24 hours after they are generated.

**Does Fathom's AI work in the iPhone app?**

The iOS app, on the App Store since October 2026, shows summaries, action items and past meetings. At launch it has no Ask Fathom and no meeting search.

## The bottom line

Fathom's AI rewards setup more than spending. Free already connects ChatGPT and Claude through MCP, exposes the API and fires webhooks, so a solo user can build real workflows without paying. Upgrade to Premium for action items, the follow-up draft and unlimited advanced summaries, and move to Team once colleagues need shared Ask Fathom scopes (beta), AI Search and Trackers. Treat Scratch pad @mentions as sharing, pin the beta SDKs and design around the per-user rate limit. Then borrow a Launchpad mission and adapt it.
