# Fathom Alternatives: Granola, Fireflies, Otter and Read AI

> Fathom alternatives by your reason for leaving: no bot with Granola, lower annual seats with Fireflies or Otter, EU hosting on Read AI Enterprise+.

---

The right Fathom alternative depends on why you want out. If the visible notetaker bot is the problem, Granola captures audio from your own computer, joins no call and keeps no recording. If the per-seat bill is the problem and you can commit for a year, Fireflies.ai Pro and Otter.ai Pro both cost less per seat on annual billing. If you want similar Pro pricing plus EU or Canada hosting on a top tier, Read AI fits, though replay costs more there. For reference, Fathom Team costs $15 per user per month billed annually, or $19 per user per month billed monthly, with a 2-user minimum.[1] Every switch trades something away. Here is what.

**4** — Main alternatives compared in depth, each matched to one reason a Fathom buyer switches.

- **$15** — Fathom Team per user per month, billed annually, 2-user minimum
- **$14** — Granola Business per user per month, billed monthly only
- **5 users** — Most billed users allowed on Otter.ai Pro

## Granola, when the bot itself is the dealbreaker

Granola has no meeting bot at all. Its macOS and Windows apps transcribe the device microphone and system audio, so it works on Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack huddles, browser calls and in-person conversations. Fathom's bot-free capture is a beta on Mac only, needs macOS 14.2 or newer and rolls out in phases, so Windows users and Teams calls still get the visible Fathom Notetaker. Granola also ships iPhone and Android apps, while Fathom offers iOS only. Fathom itself says Granola is the stronger pick for Windows bot-free capture and for Webex or Discord.

The trade is real. **Granola never records or stores audio**, which means no playback, no clips and no video to download, all things Fathom keeps even on Free. Granola transcripts cannot be edited, only deleted chunk by chunk. Its free Basic plan shows just the last 30 days of meeting history in the app, and Slack is its only Basic integration. Fathom Free has no history window. Granola's HIPAA workspaces with a BAA come only on Enterprise, whereas Fathom's pricing lists a standard BAA on Team and Business.

Granola Business costs $14 per user per month and is billed monthly only; annual billing exists just on Enterprise contracts. On monthly billing, Fathom Team at $19 per user per month runs $5 more per user per month than Granola Business, or $60 more per user a year by our arithmetic. For a 10-person team with both billed monthly, the yearly figures are $2,280 against $1,680, again by our arithmetic. Fathom lists Enterprise at $35 per user per month, billed annually only and sold through sales. Granola gives $35 per user per month as the starting rate for its Enterprise plan, with annual billing on Enterprise contracts, and its SSO and SCIM need 50 or more users. Our [Fathom vs Granola comparison](/articles/fathom-vs-granola) goes deeper on each feature.

> 💡 **Compare on the same billing term:** Granola sells Business only on monthly billing, so set it against Fathom's monthly prices. The Fireflies.ai and Otter.ai savings come mostly from annual billing.

## Fireflies.ai, if you can commit to a year

Fireflies.ai Pro costs $10 per seat per month billed annually, or $18 per seat per month billed monthly.[2] Set against Fathom Team on annual billing, that is $120 per seat a year versus $180 per user a year by our arithmetic. On monthly billing the gap shrinks to $1 per user per month, or $216 against $228 per user a year by our arithmetic. The saving lives in the annual term. One tier up, Fireflies Business costs $19 per seat per month billed annually or $29 per seat per month billed monthly. Fathom Business, which has a 2-user minimum, sits $6 per user per month higher on annual billing, at $25, and $5 per user per month higher on monthly billing, at $34.

What you gain is reach. The Fireflies bot joins Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex and more; you can upload recorded files; there are iOS and Android apps; and the GraphQL API and MCP work on every plan. Fathom accepts no uploads and records no phone calls, and Fathom itself concedes Fireflies is stronger for dialers and uploads. A bot-free desktop app for Windows and Mac exists too, though it keeps no audio or video.

The limits are where a lower bill gets spent. Pro includes 8,000 minutes of storage per seat, a 2-hour recording limit and one concurrent meeting. AI credits come as a one-time team pool: 20 on Free and Pro, 30 on Business, 50 on Enterprise. Free stores 400 minutes per team. Free accounts created since September 2026 get a few transcription credits (3 when you sign up on the web); turning on calendar auto-join makes transcription unlimited, though AI features still draw on credits. Business lifts storage to unlimited, and its 7-day trial needs a card. Our [Fireflies.ai review](/articles/fireflies-ai-review) covers those credits in full.

## Otter.ai, for a small team watching every dollar

Otter.ai Pro costs $8.33 per user per month billed annually, or $16.99 per user per month billed monthly, for up to 5 billed users.[3] For five users on annual billing, Otter Pro comes to $499.80 a year and Fathom Team to $900 a year, both billed annually, by our arithmetic. Billed monthly, by our arithmetic, the comparison is $203.88 against $228 per user a year. That cap matters. A sixth person forces the move to Otter Business, which costs $19.99 per user per month billed annually or $30 per user per month billed monthly at list price, for up to 25 billed users.

> ⚠ **Otter's Business offer is temporary:** Otter.ai Business at $24 per user per month is a first-3-months offer for first-time subscribers only; the list price is $30 per user per month billed monthly, or $19.99 billed annually.

Otter meters by minutes where Fathom does not. Pro gives 1,200 transcription minutes per user a month and 90-minute conversations; the free Basic plan gives 300 minutes per user a month, only the first 30 minutes of each conversation viewable until you upgrade, and only the 25 most recent conversations. CRM sync covers 1 user on Pro and 5 on Business, and the Otter bot auto-joins by default. Otter transcribes six languages, against 38 for Fathom transcripts. In return, Otter imports recorded files up to 5 GB, runs a bot-free desktop app on Mac and Windows, and has iOS and Android apps. Fathom itself says Otter is the better choice for classroom transcription and imports.

## Read AI, when hosting outside the US matters

Read AI Pro costs $15 per user per month billed annually, or $19.75 per user per month billed monthly.[4] On annual billing that matches Fathom Team's rate per user. On monthly billing, Fathom Team comes out slightly ahead at $228 against $237 per user a year by our arithmetic. Price alone is no reason to move.

Playback is the catch. **Audio and video playback starts at Read AI Enterprise**, while Fathom plays recordings back on Free. Read AI Enterprise costs $22.50 per user per month on annual billing; on monthly billing the same Enterprise plan costs $29.75 per user per month. Read AI's Free plan allows 5 meeting reports a month, with shared reports counting, on meetings up to 1 hour, and deletes recordings after 180 days.

The real draw sits on Enterprise+. Read AI Enterprise+ costs $29.75 per user per month on annual billing or $39.75 per user per month on monthly billing, with a minimum of 5 licenses. It adds SSO and SCIM, EU or Canada hosting, and HIPAA with a BAA on annual Enterprise+ only. Fathom stores all data in the United States, with no regional option. For 50 users on these top tiers, both billed annually, Read AI Enterprise+ totals $17,850 a year and Fathom Enterprise $21,000 a year, by our arithmetic. Read AI also accepts uploads on paid plans and offers iOS and Android apps for audio. Our [Read AI review](/articles/read-ai-review) lays out each tier.

> 💡 **Turn off Auto-record before cancelling:** Cancelling a paid Fathom plan drops an individual account to Free, which still records. Set Auto-record to No Meetings so the bot stops joining calls.

## Krisp, Avoma, Copilot and the suite options

A few tools outside these four answer narrower reasons. Krisp captures without a bot by default. Krisp Core costs $8 per user per month on the annual toggle or $16 per user per month billed monthly, and Krisp Advanced $15 per user per month annually or $30 per user per month monthly. It offers a 7-day free trial without a card; Krisp says it complies with HIPAA, its pricing matrix lists HIPAA compliance on Enterprise only, and BAA signing is available for teams of 100 or more seats. Avoma bills per recorder seat, with view-only users free. Avoma Startup costs $19 per recorder seat per month billed annually or $29 billed monthly, and Avoma Organization $29 or $39 per recorder seat per month for up to 100 seats. It records with or without a bot, including on Webex and GoToMeeting.

Teams already paying for Microsoft 365 Business can add the Microsoft 365 Copilot Business add-on at $21.00 per user per month paid yearly, $18.00 per user per month as a first-year promo on annual commitments made July to December 2026, or $25.20 per user per month billed monthly. It is an add-on for existing customers, not a stand-alone notetaker. Gong publishes no list price; it quotes per-user licenses plus a platform fee by team size. Zoom's free ZoomMate Basic covers summaries for 3 hosted meetings a month. Jamie hosts data in the EU and lists ISO 27001. Notion AI Meeting Notes offers real-time transcription, speaker identification and calendar sync.

## What leaving Fathom actually costs you

> **About these prices:** Prices shown are what Fathom lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT. Check your current price — Fathom: https://api.colosus.site/go/fathom?to=pricing

Fathom's free tier is the hardest part to replace. It keeps recordings, transcription in 38 languages, storage, downloads and clips unlimited, with advanced AI summaries on the first 5 calls each month and the General/Enhanced template after that. AI action items and follow-up emails need Premium. Each alternative above trims that free archive in its own way.

**What users rate it, by platform**

Reviewers on G2 and Capterra rate Fathom close to the top of each scale, so most people leaving are not escaping a weak product. They are escaping a bot, a seat minimum or a missing platform. Trustpilot works better as a complaint map: the negative reviews cluster around data, support, login and account issues, price and cancellation. Fathom advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee on paid plans but does not publish its conditions; its Terms of Service say fees are non-refundable. Before you go, recordings download as MP4 files, while transcripts copy to the clipboard or leave in bulk through Fathom's Public API.

## FAQ

**Does any Fathom alternative record phone calls?**

Fathom records no phone calls. Granola's iPhone and Android apps transcribe outbound phone calls placed through Granola's own dialer in about 40 countries (no audio is kept), and Fireflies.ai can import recordings from dialer integrations.

**Do these alternatives train AI on my meetings?**

Fathom may use de-identified meeting data to improve its own models unless you opt out, and does not let its AI providers train on your content. Granola trains on de-identified data unless the user opts out, with training off by default on Enterprise; Krisp says your meeting data is never used to train its AI models (November 2026), and Jamie says it does not train on customer data.

**Does Fathom offer anything to buyers coming from a rival?**

As of November 2026, Fathom offers Gong customers Fathom Business free through their current contract plus data migration. Its comparison pages make similar offers to Fireflies.ai and Granola customers.

**Can a Fathom team member delete their own account after switching?**

No. Members of a Team, Business or Enterprise account cannot delete their own account; the account admin has to do it.

## The bottom line

Leave Fathom for the reason you actually have. Granola removes the bot and stores no audio, with Business billed monthly only. Fireflies.ai and Otter.ai cut the per-seat bill mainly on annual terms, with Fireflies trading storage and credit limits and Otter capping Pro at 5 billed users. Read AI matches Fathom's Team rate on annual billing but reserves playback for Enterprise and hosting outside the US for Enterprise+. If none of those reasons applies, staying put may cost less.
