Before you buy Freshdesk, settle five areas in this order: how many full-time agents you will pay for, whether you need chat and messaging (that is Freshdesk Omni, not Freshdesk), whether the Growth plan's gates are livable, how the AI and API meters run out, and what the contract locks in. Freshdesk's pricing page lists Growth at $19 per agent per month billed annually ($228 per agent a year) or $23 per agent per month billed monthly [1]. **Our verdict:** if you need more than one SLA policy or automatic ticket assignment, price Pro first. Both start there.

**$55** — Freshdesk Pro per agent per month billed annually, where multiple SLAs and auto-assignment start

- **$19** — Freshdesk Growth per agent per month, billed annually
- **30 days** — Minimum notice before expiry to cancel or downgrade
- **14 days** — Data export window after account closure

## Seat math: who you pay for, and on which plan

Freshdesk bills per full-time agent, and every agent on an account sits on the same plan. That rule shapes the whole purchase. Freshdesk's pricing page lists Pro at $66 per agent per month billed monthly or $55 per agent per month billed annually ($660 per agent a year), and Enterprise at $107 per agent per month billed monthly or $89 per agent per month billed annually ($1,068 per agent a year). Billing is per agent with one plan for everyone; our [Freshdesk pricing guide](/articles/freshdesk-pricing) covers every add-on and billing rule in detail.

1. **Count full-time agents, not everyone who reads tickets.** Occasional agents can log in on day passes at $2 per pass on Growth, $7 per pass on Pro or $12 per pass on Enterprise, and every plan includes 3 free passes. By our arithmetic, against a seat billed annually, a seat becomes cheaper from 10 login days a month on Growth and from 8 on Pro or Enterprise; against a seat billed monthly, from 12, 10 and 9 days.
2. **List the people who only weigh in.** From Pro, collaborators join tickets as free seats, up to 5,000 of them, so engineers or managers who add notes need no license.
3. **Find the one agent who needs a higher plan.** Plans are account-wide, so a single requirement such as automatic assignment or a second SLA policy moves every seat to Pro. The gap between the two lower annual plans is $432 per agent a year, or $4,320 a year for ten agents. Five agents on Growth billed annually come to $1,140 a year; ten on Pro come to $6,600.
4. **Pick the billing term by how sure you are.** Annual billing costs about 17% less than a year of monthly payments, on each plan. Monthly still costs less if you stay 9 months or fewer; from 10 months on, annual costs the same or less.

## Freshdesk or Freshdesk Omni: settle the channels first

Standalone Freshdesk is email-first: every query becomes a ticket in a shared inbox. New accounts get email with unlimited support mailboxes from Growth, a customer portal with a knowledge base, a lite help widget with knowledge base and web forms, Facebook on Growth and above, and phone through Freshcaller or a telephony app. Live chat, WhatsApp, Instagram and SMS are not part of standalone Freshdesk for new accounts, and neither is the Chat AI Agent. Those live in Freshdesk Omni, which has its own per-agent prices; our [Freshdesk Omni guide](/articles/freshdesk-omni) compares the two setups.

5. **Write down every channel customers use today.** If chat or WhatsApp is on the list, price Omni instead. Freshworks says teams that run almost entirely on email may be better served by plain Freshdesk.
6. **Do not expect a CRM.** Freshdesk keeps contacts and companies for support work; deal data comes from Freshsales, Freshworks' CRM, or from integrations with Salesforce, Zoho CRM or HubSpot. Freshservice is a different product, built for internal IT and employee service.

## The Growth-to-Pro gates that decide most purchases

The trial runs on Enterprise features, so a team can grow used to tools it will not have on Growth. Check the plan, not the trial. The biggest gaps sit between Growth and Pro: Growth keeps one default SLA policy, while multiple SLA policies, SLA reminders and escalations start on Pro [2]. Automatic assignment, round-robin or load-balanced, is also a Pro feature, as are custom roles. On Growth, someone has to assign tickets, and the default roles cannot be edited.

| Check | Growth | Pro | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| SLA policies | One default policy | Multiple, with reminders and escalations | Multiple, plus SLA conditions on custom fields |
| Automatic assignment | Not included | Round-robin and load-balanced | Adds skill-based routing (up to 180 skills) |
| Custom roles | Not included | Included | Included |
| Collaborators (free seats) | Not included | Up to 5,000 | Up to 5,000 |
| Custom dashboards | Not included | Up to 15 | Up to 15 |
| Sandbox, audit log, IP restrictions | Not included | Not included | Included |
| API calls per minute, account-wide | 100 | 400 | 700 |
| MCP actions included a month | 100 | 500 | 1,000 |

7. **Count your SLA promises.** Separate response targets for VIP customers, products or individual companies need multiple policies, which means Pro.
8. **Ask who hands out tickets each morning.** If no lead wants that job, you need automatic assignment on Pro. Routing by skill needs Enterprise.
9. **Check reporting.** Custom dashboards, custom reports and scheduled exports start on Pro. Reports refresh every 30 minutes on all plans; dashboards are live.
10. **Check brands and languages.** A multilingual help desk and up to 5 products, each with its own portal and knowledge base, are Pro features; Enterprise removes the cap.

## AI and API meters: know what runs out

The Email AI Agent comes with Growth, Pro and Enterprise, but it runs on a separate meter. For new customers, Freshdesk includes the first 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions once per account, and they last until used. After that, sessions cost $49 per pack of 100 sessions, added to the current billing cycle. An email session is a 72-hour window from the customer's first email, however many messages follow. Unused purchased sessions do not carry over to the next cycle, and at zero the deployed AI agents stop taking new queries. **This one surprises buyers.** As a sizing example, 1,000 sessions beyond the free 500 in one billing cycle come to ten packs, or $490.

> 💡 **Decide on AI auto-recharge deliberately:** Auto-recharge adds a session pack when fewer than 50 sessions remain, and it works only with online payment. Turn it on if a stopped AI agent would hurt more than an extra pack.

Freddy AI Copilot, the assistant inside each agent's inbox, is sold only on Pro and Enterprise at $29 per agent per month billed annually or $35 per agent per month billed monthly. You buy it for chosen agents, and day passes do not cover it. Adding it for ten agents on annual billing comes to $3,480 a year. Freshdesk can also assign unassigned purchased licenses to all eligible agents after an in-product notice; to opt out, contact support before the date. Our [Freshdesk AI playbook](/articles/freshdesk-ai-playbook) covers setup.

11. **Test the AI agent quietly first.** Shadow mode drafts replies as private notes and never sends them.
12. **Size the API by the minute.** The trial allows 50 calls a minute. Every webhook, invalid request and custom-app call counts toward the limit, and Freshdesk does not publish the price of extra API calls.
13. **Check MCP if AI tools will touch your desk.** Overage is billed at $15 per 1,000 actions; at 110% of the allowance, MCP pauses until a pack is bought or the cycle resets.

## Data, compliance and AI training

Pick the data center at sign-up: US, EU (including Europe North), India, Australia or Middle East. Moving later needs a support ticket. Freshdesk is audited each year for ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and SOC 2 Type 2, with reports on request through the Customer Trust Portal. Freshdesk does not publish an uptime percentage or uptime SLA, only a status page, so ask before signing if your own contracts promise uptime to customers.

Regulated data narrows the choice to Enterprise. HIPAA is Enterprise only, with a Business Associate Agreement covering Freshdesk, Freshchat, Freshcaller and Freshdesk Omnichannel, and it needs mandatory settings: IP whitelisting, SAML SSO or an advanced password policy, a custom mailbox, SSL and Freshconnect turned off [3]. Card numbers belong in the PCI field, also Enterprise. Only standalone Freshdesk is PCI compliant through that isolated vault field; Omnichannel is not.

14. **Decide on AI training before go-live.** Freshworks' Supplemental Terms turn AI training on unless the customer opts out by emailing support@freshworks.com. Training stops within seven business days, and the same terms say customer data is not used to train third-party hosted models, including Azure OpenAI.
15. **Keep patient data off messaging channels.** The Supplemental Terms bar WhatsApp, Messenger and similar integrations from carrying patient data.

## The contract: trial, renewal and exit

The trial lasts 14 days with Enterprise features and no credit card. When it ends, you choose a plan and pay by card, or the account is suspended, and the Terms allow trial data to be deleted unless it was exported. There is no self-serve free plan. Freshdesk can move a small account into its Free program, up to 2 agents with email ticketing only, which the help center says is free for 6 months, through Customer Success. Freshworks can end or charge for free programs at any time (Supplemental Terms).

Plans auto-renew for the same term, users, plan and add-ons unless written notice of non-renewal or downgrade arrives at least 30 days before expiry [4]. Freshworks may raise fees at renewal with at least 30 days' notice, and earlier discounts lapse if you reduce users, plan, add-ons or term. Added agents and upgrades are charged pro rata at once. Downgrades and cancellations take effect only at the end of the term, with no cancellation fee. Payments are non-refundable.

> ⚠ **Failed renewals suspend the desk:** If a card renewal fails 4 times on 4 successive days, the account is suspended and tickets can no longer be updated or answered. Only the Account Administrator gets the pay-and-reactivate link.

16. **Deactivate agents before downgrading.** Otherwise the downgrade can be rejected and every configured agent is billed.
17. **Plan the exit on day one.** After closure, data stays exportable for 14 days; full exports arrive as XML and can take up to 10 business days, so request one before the term ends.
18. **Know the support you get.** All paid plans include 24/5 support and complimentary onboarding.

> 💡 **Ask sales about longer terms:** Freshdesk's help center says discounts by subscription length and agent count go through sales, so ask before you commit to an annual term.

## FAQ

**Can I buy Freshdesk for a single agent?**

Yes. One seat can be bought; Growth costs $19 per agent per month billed annually or $23 per agent per month billed monthly.

**Which payment methods does Freshdesk accept?**

Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express, plus offline payments in USD. PayPal is not accepted, and prices exclude taxes such as VAT or sales tax.

**Can I change my billing currency later?**

You choose the currency during the trial, and it is fixed after the first purchase. Changes go through billing@freshworks.com.

**Does Freshdesk offer a nonprofit or startup discount?**

Freshdesk publishes no nonprofit, education or startup discount. Discounts by subscription length and agent count are handled by sales.

## The bottom line

Buy Freshdesk when email, a portal and Facebook cover your channels and you can name the one plan every agent needs. For teams with SLA tiers or a shared queue, that plan is Pro at $55 per agent per month billed annually. Price chat and WhatsApp as Omni instead. Size AI sessions and API calls before go-live, opt out of AI training if your policy requires it, and on the day you sign, set a reminder 45 to 60 days before renewal, so written notice arrives at least 30 days before expiry. Those dates decide what you can still change.
