Glide (glideapps.com) fits the manufacturing apps that live in spreadsheets today: stockroom counts, bills of materials, QA checklists, machine maintenance and work orders. The feature that decides most plant projects is barcode scanning, and Glide documents it only in Glide Classic, on the Business and Enterprise plans, where every scan uses 5 updates. Glide Classic Business costs $199 per month billed yearly or $249 billed monthly, with 30 users included.[1] The newer GlideOS builds apps from a prompt or a spreadsheet and adds strong governance on its Enterprise plan, but its docs say little about the shop floor. Glide Classic apps are web apps that Glide does not publish to the Apple App Store or Google Play, and no store publishing is documented for GlideOS.

**5 updates** — Each barcode scan in Glide Classic uses 5 updates; scanning needs Glide Classic Business or Enterprise.

- **5,000** — Updates a month on Glide Classic Business
- **30 users** — Included in Glide Classic Business
- **100,000 rows** — Big Tables limit on Glide Classic Business

## Pick the Glide product before you pick the app

Glide sells two separate products with separate accounts, and the choice weighs more in a plant than in an office. Glide Classic is the original no-code builder: Glide Tables or Big Tables, synced Google Sheets or Excel, a Scanner component, offline row submission, row owners and roles. GlideOS is the current product, where the Glide Agent builds the app, its database and its workflows from a prompt, a spreadsheet, a PDF or a screenshot, billed in credits per organization. The two cannot share data. Glide says it has no tool to move Classic apps across, so a pilot built in one product stays there.

The scanning record is lopsided. Glide Classic's docs describe the Scanner component, its plan gate and its cost per scan in detail. The GlideOS docs we read describe no scanner component and no plan gate for one; a GlideOS blog post only says warehouse teams can scan shipments from a phone. On its first publish, a GlideOS app shows a QR code that adds it to a phone's home screen, which suits a tablet mounted at a workstation. Treat GlideOS scanning as something to prove in a pilot. Our [Glide review](/articles/glide-review) covers the wider split between the two products.

> 💡 **Count scans before choosing a plan:** Each Glide Classic scan uses 5 updates, and scanning stops at the monthly allowance unless unlimited updates are on, billed at 2¢ per extra update.

> ⚠ **No native store apps:** Glide Classic does not publish to the Apple App Store or Google Play, and no store publishing is documented for GlideOS; Glide Classic apps install as web apps on the home screen.

## The stockroom: counts, parts and the update meter

Inventory is where Glide's manufacturing case is strongest, and nearly all of it is Glide Classic. The Scanner component keeps the camera running for counting many items in a row, while the Scan Barcode or QR Code action opens the camera only when a button fires. Both run on Dynamsoft and write the result straight into your data. A 2023 Glide post adds that a Bluetooth scanner can stand in for the phone camera, and Glide's warehouse pages mention attached Zebra devices without naming the product. Both scanning features need Glide Classic Business or Enterprise.[2]

Here is the catch. Glide sets no quota on scans, yet each scan uses 5 updates, and a scan that adds or edits a row counts as an update on top. Glide Classic Business includes 5,000 updates a month. Once the team reaches that allowance, scanning, Glide AI, workflows, integrations and external syncs stop unless an admin has switched on unlimited updates, which bill 2¢ per extra update ([pricing guide](/articles/glide-pricing)). By our arithmetic, 1,000 extra updates cost $20 and 5,000 extra updates cost $100. Glide emails the team at 75%, 90% and 100% of the quota, so a busy receiving dock gets warnings before the scanner goes quiet.

Row limits shape the design as well. Spreadsheet-type sources such as Glide Tables, Google Sheets and Excel stop at 25,000 rows on every Glide Classic plan, and Glide's docs steer inventory apps and audit logs to Big Tables as data nears that ceiling. Big Tables hold 100,000 rows on Glide Classic Business and a custom figure up to 10 million on Enterprise. One trade-off bites on floors with patchy Wi-Fi. Glide Classic's offline add-row lets workers submit new rows without a connection and pushes them later, but not on Big Tables or SQL sources.

> ⚠ **GlideOS scanning is not documented:** The GlideOS docs we read describe no scanner component or plan gate for one, so prove floor features in a GlideOS pilot before committing.

## Quality checks, maintenance and the templates behind them

The clearest manufacturing case on Glide's site is Champion Industries. Glide says the company built a mobile inspection app for its technicians, tested more than 370 machines with it and saved $120K compared with traditional development (as read in November 2026; the page does not name the product).[3] A 2023 Glide post describes the same customer's technicians scanning an appliance barcode to pull up checklists, registration and warranty details. Scan the tag, open the checklist. That loop is the QA workflow most plants are after.

On Glide Classic, the building blocks for QA and maintenance are plan-gated. Signature capture needs a paid plan, Print Screen to PDF needs Business or Enterprise, and Glide AI, available from Explorer, reads PDFs, Word and Excel files, even handwriting, through Document to Text at 5 updates per use. Glide's manufacturing page describes AI that flags delayed jobs, pulls part numbers and specs from images and summarizes downtime reports, without naming the product. Scheduled workflows can run preventive checks, though no more often than every 5 minutes. Plan the meter for AI too.

| Gallery template (product not stated) | Built by | What it tracks |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection Tool | Glide | Inspection forms and checklists for sites, installations and equipment |
| Spare Parts Inventory | Glide | Parts for machine maintenance, suppliers, inputs and outputs, reorders. |
| Inventory Management Dashboard | Glide | Spare parts for machine maintenance, charts, supplier details. |
| BOM Inventory Tracking | Community | Bills of materials, part availability, total parts needed, shortages. |
| Manufacturing Operations | Community | Production, storage, shipping, materials, equipment, reorder alerts, cost reports. |
| Work Orders | Community | Preventive and corrective maintenance by department, machine and sub-machine. |

Templates built by the vendor show no price, while community templates are priced between $4.99 and $999.99 each, and buying one copies it into your account. A template brings screens, logic and sample structure, not a subscription: the scanner gate, the users and the updates still come from your plan. Some gallery listings are labeled template concepts rather than working apps. Check that label before you plan around one, and expect to swap the sample columns for your own part numbers, machine IDs and inspection steps before the first shift uses it.

> 💡 **Start from a maintenance template:** The Glide-made Inspection Tool and Spare Parts Inventory templates show no price; community templates such as BOM Inventory Tracking are paid and copy into your account.

## Multi-site stock and the supply chain

ManBow is the one manufacturing-tagged customer Glide ties to a product. A quote on the GlideOS pricing page, from a GlideOS Pro customer, says ManBow replaced three tools and twelve weekly hours of spreadsheet stitching (as read in November 2026). Glide's customer page describes stock checks and sales entry across around 50 shops, and a Glide blog post says the app saved the salary of two full-time employees; neither page names the product. Manfield Paris tells a similar story on a Glide Classic page, where Glide says its inventory app delivered the work of two more employees (as read in November 2026).

TechnipFMC shows a different job: retiring printed manuals. Glide says the company built several apps, claims at least $100K saved in a year and 500 monthly users, and lets customers open a manual by scanning a QR code (product not stated, as read in November 2026). Glide's supply-chain pages also describe scoring suppliers on OTIF, lead times and ASN accuracy per purchase order, and matching received goods to purchase orders by scanning. None of those pages names the product either, so read them as patterns, not plan features.

Where the stock data lives decides the plan. Glide Classic syncs Google Sheets both ways from Maker and Excel in OneDrive or SharePoint from Business, while SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and BigQuery are Enterprise-only. GlideOS copies a spreadsheet into its own database and does not write back, so the sheet stops being the source of truth. GlideOS Pro adds Postgres-compatible connection strings that let outside tools read or write the GlideOS project database, and Glide's Enterprise page says apps can work on live ERP and on-premises systems rather than a copy (as read in November 2026). Our [Google Sheets and data guide](/articles/glide-google-sheets-and-data) covers sync behavior in depth.

## Running it across a larger plant

Liberty Steel is the large-plant reference. Glide's Enterprise page lists it with $1M in expected savings for the year, and another Glide page says the company expects its apps to catch safety risks (as read in November 2026; neither names the product).[4] At that scale the governance questions arrive fast. GlideOS Enterprise adds SSO through SAML or OIDC, project-level roles, publishing approval, audit logs, a choice of LLM provider and 30-day backups. GlideOS Pro stops at org-level roles, invite-only projects and 24-hour backups, which may be enough for one site.

Glide Classic Enterprise sells SSO, data backups and the QuickBooks, Salesforce and Xero integrations as paid add-ons with no published price. Its Team SSO can leave access open for up to 24 hours after someone is removed at the identity provider. Glide says Glide Classic is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and SOC 2 Type 1 for GlideOS is in progress (as read in November 2026), and both products' rules prohibit HIPAA health data. Data sits in the United States on Google Cloud, with no EU servers and no self-hosting ([our Glide review](/articles/glide-review)). Raise that early with a European parent company.

Floor headcount is the other budget line. On Glide Classic, operators who sign in with a company email need Business (a Maker team can ask Glide to treat one email domain as personal, but scanning still needs Business), which includes 30 users, and each extra Glide Classic Business user costs $5 per month billed annually or $6 billed monthly. By our arithmetic, a 40-user Glide Classic Business team pays $249 per month billed yearly or $309 per month billed monthly. GlideOS counts people differently: guests who only use published apps take no seat, and the GlideOS pricing table lists them as unlimited on GlideOS Basic, Plus and Pro, though admins can invite 10 new guests every 30 days (3 per member on Pro and Enterprise).

GlideOS Pro with 5 team members and 500 credits costs $125 per month, billed monthly, and every workflow step, integration call and AI feature inside your apps draws on that credit pool. That makes the GlideOS bill hard to forecast for a plant running scheduled jobs all day, and when monthly credits run out, new AI requests stop until they reset or you buy extra credits. GlideOS bills monthly only, and its Terms say fees and credits are non-refundable except where the law requires, while Glide Classic's pricing page offers a full refund within 14 days of the first subscription payment; our [Glide pricing guide](/articles/glide-pricing) walks through both products' plans. Budget a pilot month first.

## FAQ

**Can I test barcode scanning before paying for Glide Classic Business?**

Yes. The 14-day Glide Classic Business trial moves the team onto Business at once, scanning included, but unlimited updates cannot be switched on during it. It needs a credit or debit card, renews into paid Business unless you cancel, and Glide allows one trial per team.

**Can a Glide Classic app push a low-stock alert to phones?**

Native push notifications in Glide Classic were deprecated in December 2024. Workflows can send an email instead, up to 10,000 a month per team, or post to Slack or Microsoft Teams through integrations.

**Can I take my inventory data with me if I leave Glide?**

Glide Classic exports Glide Tables to CSV, though Relation and Query columns cannot export, and data kept in Google Sheets, Excel or SQL stays in your own source. GlideOS exports any project table to CSV.

## The bottom line

For a plant whose inventory, QA checks and maintenance logs already live in spreadsheets, Glide is a credible way to put them on phones and tablets, and its customer pages show manufacturers doing exactly that. Choose by the scanner. Glide Classic Business is the documented home for barcode work, and its update meter needs a budget line of its own. GlideOS suits teams that want an agent to build the app and Enterprise controls on top, once a pilot proves the floor features. Plants that need native store apps or EU hosting should look elsewhere.
