## Yes, Bolt.new has a $0 plan, and here is its exact allowance

Yes. Bolt.new (Bolt), the browser-based AI app builder from StackBlitz, sells a Free plan at $0 a month with 1M tokens a month and a daily limit of 300K tokens [1]. Sign-up runs through Google, GitHub or email, and no credit card is requested; Bolt's pricing card describes the plan as free forever with no card required. Free is a working plan, not a demo. You get public and private projects, the Standard agent, Bolt Database, GitHub sync and publishing to a bolt.host address. What it holds back is the finish a public launch usually wants: a custom domain, a site without the Made in Bolt badge, and private published sites. **Volume is the real constraint.**

Tokens measure the work Bolt does when it reads your prompt and project files, plans and writes code. They are not messages. Bolt's own quickstart shows the scale: a small sample app used about 204K tokens for its first build and about 70K for a minor title change, and the full walkthrough came in just under 300K, which is the whole Free daily allowance. Because most token use comes from Bolt reading and syncing project files, a bigger project spends more tokens on every message, so the same request gets pricier as your app grows.

## Living with the 300K daily ceiling

Free usage shows as two separate bars. The daily bar refreshes every day, and the monthly bar resets on the 1st of each calendar month [2]. Nothing carries over in either direction: an unused daily allowance is gone at the refresh, and unused monthly tokens vanish on the 1st. By our arithmetic, the 300K cap can be hit on at most three full days in a month, since three such days consume 900K and leave only 100K for everything else. Plan your heavy building sessions with that rhythm in mind.

Reaching the daily limit does not lock you out of the project. AI prompts pause until the daily bar refreshes, but direct edits in Code view keep working, and they cost no tokens at all. Terminal commands are free as well, though both need Chrome or another Chromium browser on a desktop; on Safari or a phone, Code view is read-only. Restoring an earlier version and clicking the Publish or Update button also spend nothing. Visual edits through the Select button are free while you make them and only use tokens once you save the batch.

> 💡 **Fix small things in Code view:** Direct edits in Code view and terminal commands use no tokens, even after you hit the Free daily limit. They need Chrome or a Chromium browser on a desktop.

Several actions quietly spend Free tokens. Each click on Attempt fix costs tokens, as does saving visual edits, sending preview comments to Bolt, dictation, and asking Bolt in the chat to publish when the button would have done it for nothing. Plan Mode uses fewer tokens than Build Mode, but not zero. On shared projects, whoever types the prompt pays from their own account, so a collaborator on Free burns their own 300K, not yours.

## What you can build and publish without paying

The building side of Free is generous. You can start from a prompt, a free marketplace template, a Figma frame, a Google Stitch design or a public GitHub repo, then refine with visual edits, skills, comments and version history. Pre-loaded design systems such as Chakra, Material UI and Shadcn are available. Bolt Slides decks work too. Sharing works on Free with Viewer and Editor roles (Co-owner is for members of your own team). Uploads top out at 10MB (and Bolt rejects any single attached file over 5 MB when the prompt is sent), with 5 attached files per message, and Free users get only the Standard agent.

On the backend, Bolt Database is included with no cap on the number of databases. It is built on PostgreSQL, runs on Supabase infrastructure managed by Bolt, and bundles sign-up and login, file storage, server functions and secrets. The database security check is available on Free. Connecting your own Supabase account is not: that needs Pro or Teams, with one Supabase organization per account.

Publishing is where the Free limits bite hardest. Every project can go live on a free bolt.host address, but Free hosting stops at 10 GB of bandwidth and 333,333 web requests a month, and that is a hard limit [3]. When the account hits it, the site stops serving until usage resets, and the ceiling cannot be raised. The allowance covers the whole account, so every Free site you publish draws from one pool. Bolt estimates the Free allowance at around 10,000 to 15,000 monthly visits, depending on page size. Every published Free site is public, even when the project itself is private.

> ⚠ **Free sites go offline at the cap:** Free hosting stops at 10 GB of bandwidth or 333,333 web requests a month, shared by every site on the account. The limit cannot be raised; sites return when usage resets.

One more default matters on Free. Unless you opt out, content created from October 2026 on an individual account outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland may be used for AI training and licensed as de-identified datasets. The opt-out is free on any plan, set in account settings, and takes effect within 15 days without undoing training already done. Teams and Enterprise workspaces are excluded from this default, but a personal Free account is not, and the [Bolt.new review](/articles/bolt-new-review) covers the rest.

## Where Free ends and Pro begins

> **About these prices:** Prices shown are what Bolt.new lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT. Check your current price — Bolt.new: https://api.colosus.site/go/bolt-new?to=pricing

| | Free | Pro at 10M tokens a month |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 a month | $25 per month billed monthly, or $18 per month billed yearly ($216 a year) |
| Tokens | 1M a month, 300K daily limit | 10M a month, no daily limit |
| Unused tokens | never roll over | roll over for up to two months while subscribed |
| Agents | Standard | Standard and Max |
| Published sites | public, Made in Bolt badge | private sharing, no badge |
| Custom domain | not available | connect or buy |
| Hosting a month | 10 GB, 333,333 requests, hard stop | 30 GB, 1 million requests, optional pay-as-you-go |
| Database | Bolt Database | Bolt Database or your own Supabase |
| Uploads | 10MB, 5 files per message | 100MB, 20 files per message |
| Support | community Discord | email on weekdays, business hours |

The table leaves out a few smaller gates. AI image editing and generation, the full project security audit from the Publish menu, hosting analytics and SEO boosting all start on paid plans. Free users also cannot earn paid referral rewards. If you upgrade and later return to Free, your custom domains stay in the account and live sites stay online, but you can no longer republish to a custom domain, and the badge comes back the next time the site is published.

> ⚠ **Unused Free tokens disappear:** Free tokens never roll over: the daily allowance is lost at each refresh and the monthly 1M resets on the 1st of the calendar month.

## No trial and no student price, but a few honest shortcuts

Bolt offers no trial of Pro or Teams. There is no student or educator discount either. Bolt's users must also be at least 18 (or the age of majority where that is higher), so younger students cannot use it. For most people, the Free plan is the only zero-cost route, and it is a reasonable one for learning and small prototypes.

The real shortcuts are narrower. Bolt's Build with Bolt Events Program, announced in September 2025, lets organizers of approved hackathons, demo days and workshops apply online; Bolt reviews within one week and, if the event is picked, emails free Bolt Pro promo codes for the organizer and every attendee. Events can range from 10 to more than 1,000 attendees, and Bolt says not every event can be supported. Coupon codes also come from Bolt's social media and emails or from authorized partners, and they apply when you upgrade or first subscribe. Never trust a code from anywhere else.

A referral link is the other route: the invited friend gets 20% off a paid subscription. The 2025 Bolt Hackathon handed participants a Builder Pack with a free Pro membership, but that was a one-time June 2025 event. The Bolt Open Source Fund sponsors open-source developers; it is not a discount. Lite, a $9-a-month Forge-only plan, closed to new sign-ups in October 2026 (existing subscribers keep it).

> 💡 **Only trust official promo codes:** Bolt coupon codes come from Bolt's social media and emails, authorized partners, or approved Build with Bolt events. They apply when you upgrade or first subscribe.

## Signs it is time to pay, and what the jump costs

Upgrade when Free gets in the way of the work, not before. The clearest signals are hitting the daily cap in the middle of most sessions, needing a custom domain or a badge-free site for a client, traffic approaching the hosting ceiling, or wanting the Max agent or your own Supabase. Pro starts at 10M tokens a month for $25 per month billed monthly or $18 per month billed yearly ($216 a year). Bolt advertises savings of up to 28% on yearly billing, and that figure holds only at this entry level. By our arithmetic, 12 months of Pro at 10M tokens cost $300 billed monthly against one $216 yearly charge, a saving of $84.

Before committing a year, know the exits. Bolt subscriptions are non-refundable except where the law requires, and an annual plan can only be downgraded at the next annual renewal; the [Bolt.new pricing guide](/articles/bolt-new-pricing) walks through the full token ladder, rollover and cancellation rules. A group of builders should look at Teams, which starts at 10M tokens per member a month for $30 per member per month billed monthly or $27 per member per month billed yearly ($324 a year per member). Each paid member gets their own tokens. Nothing is pooled.

Shopping other free tiers? Units differ. Lovable's Free plan meters credits per workspace, with 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month plus small Cloud, AI and connector allowances, as our [Lovable review](/articles/lovable-review) explains. Credits and Bolt tokens are separate units, so counts cannot be compared side by side. Judge each free tier by whether it lets you finish the specific prototype you have in mind.

## FAQ

**Does the Bolt.new Free plan expire?**

Bolt presents Free as an ongoing plan rather than a timed trial, and Bolt's pricing card says the plan is free forever with no card required. Bolt also notes that free-plan limits may change.

**Can I use apps built on Bolt.new Free commercially?**

Bolt's help center says code created with Bolt can be used for any legal purpose, including commercial projects. The Terms assign StackBlitz's rights in AI output to you only to the extent the law permits and warn that it may not be copyrightable.

**Can I download my code on the Free plan?**

Yes. GitHub two-way sync works on every plan, and you can download a project as a zip on desktop and run it locally with Node.js. Exports carry code but not secrets.

**Is bolt.diy a free version of Bolt.new?**

bolt.diy is a community open-source fork you run yourself with your own API keys for LLM providers. It has no Bolt Cloud and no Bolt tokens, and its maintainers plan no new features.

## The bottom line

Bolt.new is free in a meaningful sense: 1M tokens a month, capped at 300K a day, buys real building time, a working database and a live bolt.host site with no card on file. The limits are just as concrete. Unused tokens disappear, published sites stay public and branded, and hosting stops cold at the account-wide cap. Use Free to learn Bolt and validate a small idea, lean on Code view when the daily bar runs dry, and pay for Pro only when a custom domain, private sites or steady daily volume becomes a requirement rather than a wish.
