**$0** — Cal.com Free: one user, unlimited event types, calendars and bookings, with no time limit.

- **0 credits** — included on Free; 1 credit = $0.01
- **14 days** — free trial of Teams or Organizations
- **$6.12** — Cal Pay fees on a $55.00 booking

## Is Cal.com free? The short answer

Yes, for one person. **Cal.com's Free plan costs $0 for a single user and has no time limit**, and it is not a trial: you get unlimited event types, unlimited connected calendars and unlimited bookings, with no credit card at sign-up [1]. Cal.com describes the plan as having no usage limits, with collaboration features held back for paid plans. That is the honest line between free and paid. Anything one person does on their own calendar is free. Anything that involves sharing the work across a team, or sending a message that costs real money, is not.

Three costs can still reach a free account. Text messages, WhatsApp messages and the Cal.ai phone agent all run on credits, and free users get none included. Cal Pay, the built-in payment option, takes a fee from every payment. And the self-hosted route, Cal.diy, is free to download but not free to run. This guide walks through each of those, the 14-day trials of the paid plans, and the point where upgrading starts to make sense. Older Cal.com pages, including a May 2025 post that capped free users at one calendar and one event type, describe rules that no longer apply.

## What the Free plan includes

The free plan is broad for a single user. Beyond unlimited event types, calendars and bookings, it includes email notifications, more than 100 apps, the Companion mobile app and browser extension, payments through Stripe and PayPal, Cal Pay switched on by default, two-way sync with Salesforce and HubSpot, Cal Video for meetings, and a one-click import of your Calendly event types. The calendars that sync in real time include Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar and Zoho Calendar, and video links can come from Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Cal Video. The Companion apps, launched in January 2026, run on iOS, Android, the main browsers and desktop computers, and Cal.com includes them free on every plan.

### The scheduling controls you get for nothing

None of the everyday controls appears on Cal.com's list of paid extras. You can set daily, weekly or monthly booking limits, add buffers around meetings, cap how many upcoming bookings a single person can hold, and choose time-slot intervals of 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Bookers can overlay their own calendar to find a time that suits both sides, and they get confirmations by email. For a freelancer, coach or consultant who books one-to-one calls, that covers most of what a paid scheduler would do. **The CRM sync stands out.** Two-way Salesforce and HubSpot sync on a free plan is unusual, and it means a solo seller can log meetings against contacts without paying anything.

> 💡 **Import from Calendly in one click:** The Calendly importer is part of the free plan, so you can move your event types over and test Cal.com without rebuilding anything by hand.

## What Free leaves out

The missing pieces fall into three groups: team scheduling, branding and recording, and customization of messages. Round robin, collective events and managed event types all need Teams, because they share bookings across people. Removing Cal.com's branding from your booking page needs a paid plan, as does recording Cal Video calls. Routing forms and the Insights analytics dashboard also start at Teams.

| Feature | Free | Teams |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Users | 1 | Per seat, 1 team |
| Event types, calendars, bookings | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Round robin, collective, managed events | No | Yes |
| Custom workflows | Default reminder email only | Yes |
| Branding removal | No | Yes |
| Routing forms and Insights | No | Yes |
| Cal Video recording | No | Yes |
| Included credits a month | 0 | 750 per member |

### Why your reminders cannot be customized

The workflows limit catches people out. **On Free, workflows are limited to the default reminder email, with no customization**; Teams, Organizations and Enterprise get full custom workflows with texts, WhatsApp messages and conditional steps. Cal.com tightened this in January 2025, after custom email templates on free accounts were abused for phishing, and later restored the default reminder for individuals. You can still preview the message on Free, but you cannot edit it. If you want a reminder that says something specific, such as directions to your office or a link to an intake form, you need a paid plan. Cal.com Notes, the AI summaries of Cal Video calls, are also limited to paid plans.

## The credits rule: texts, WhatsApp and AI are never free

Credits are the one place where a free account can run up a bill. **One credit is worth $0.01, and free users get no credits included**, though they can buy them [45]. Every SMS and WhatsApp message uses credits, including messages to the US and Canada. The price is Twilio's regional rate plus a standard 80% processing fee, so an SMS that costs Cal.com $0.05 in India costs you 9 credits. Messages are charged per segment of 160 characters, or 70 characters when the text contains emojis or special characters, which means a long reminder with an emoji can count as several messages. Keep texts short.

### The Cal.ai phone agent

Cal.ai, the AI phone agent that confirms, reschedules and follows up on bookings by phone, is available on every plan, including Free. It costs 29 credits, or $0.29, a minute, and test calls use credits too. Cal.com sells only US phone numbers for it, at $5 a month. Outside the US, you import a number from Twilio instead. Paid plans soften this. Teams includes 750 credits per member a month and Organizations 1,000, and the allowance resets each billing cycle. When credits run out on any plan, texts and WhatsApp messages stop and Cal.com falls back to email, with low-balance warnings going to admins. Credits you buy on Free carry over if you later upgrade to a team account.

> ⚠ **Texts are never included on Free:** Free accounts get no credits, and every SMS, WhatsApp message and Cal.ai call uses them. When credits run out, messages fall back to email.

## Cal Pay: free to switch on, not free to use

Cal Pay is Cal.com's own payment option, processed by Whop and on every account by default, with no Stripe or PayPal account needed [57]. The checkout stays inside the booking page, and the booker pays exactly the price you set. You pay the fees. Each payment carries a $0.30 card fee, a $0.07 Radar fee, a percentage processing fee, a Cal.com application fee and an orchestration fee. Withdrawals cost 2.3% by card, 1% by ACH, and 2.7% by PayPal or Cash App, plus a Cal.com withdrawal fee. Identity verification happens at your first withdrawal, not at setup.

The fixed fees bite hardest on small payments. Cal.com's own example shows a $1.00 payment losing $0.42 in fees. Its larger worked example is a $55.00 booking that pays $3.33 in fees on payment and $2.79 on withdrawal, $6.12 in total, leaving $48.88 in the bank; that is about 11% of the price, by our arithmetic. **You do not have to use Cal Pay for ordinary bookings**, because Stripe and PayPal stay available on Free. The exception is Cal Events, the ticketed events feature, where Cal Pay is the only way to sell tickets. If you take paid bookings regularly, compare these fees with the processor you already use before you leave Cal Pay switched on.

## The 14-day trials of Teams and Organizations

Both paid plans come with a 14-day free trial, and the homepage says signing up needs no credit card. A trial lets a small team test round robin, shared availability, routing forms and custom workflows on real bookings before paying. Cal.com has also added personal team trials with guided onboarding, so an individual can try team features before committing to a plan. Teams users who already know what they want can skip the trial and go straight to paid features such as custom workflows.

One caution from the terms of service: free plans and trials may be changed or ended with notice. The free plan has been generous for years, but it is a policy, not a contract term you can rely on forever. Cal.com has narrowed it before, with the workflows change in 2025, so a business that depends on a free feature should keep an eye on the changelog. Paid plans bill in advance, renew automatically and are non-refundable except where the terms or the law say otherwise, which makes the trial the right place to find out whether the team features earn their keep.

## Cal.diy: the free self-hosted option and its limits

Since April 2026 the commercial Cal.com has been closed source. The free, self-hostable code lives on as Cal.diy, a community edition under the MIT license, with no license key and no Cal.com account required. It keeps the full scheduling engine, the app store framework, booking flows, API v2, webhooks, Zapier and CRM apps, and paid, seated and recurring events. Deployment guides cover AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Railway, Render, Vercel and Docker, among others. It needs Node.js 18 or newer and PostgreSQL 13 or newer, and Vercel requires its Pro plan.

What Cal.diy leaves out is most of what teams pay for: teams, round robin, collective and managed events, organizations, routing forms, workflows, Insights, SAML SSO, SCIM, Cal Video recordings and audit logs. More important, **Cal.com says Cal.diy is strictly for personal, non-production use**, and it does not guarantee the security of the community-maintained code [199]. Businesses that want to run Cal.com on their own servers are pointed to enterprise on-premises hosting through sales. So Cal.diy is free in licence terms only. That distinction matters. You pay for the servers and the time to maintain them, and you get fewer features than the hosted Free plan. For most people the hosted plan is the better free option.

## When to upgrade

Stay on Free while you are one person booking your own calls. The moment a second person needs to share the load, the free plan stops fitting, because round robin, collective events and shared availability all need Teams. Other signals point the same way: you want reminders in your own words, you send enough texts that buying credits becomes a habit, you want Cal.com's branding off your booking page, or you need to record Cal Video calls.

Organizations is a different decision. Few small teams need it. It makes sense when you need attribute routing by territory, language or seniority, SAML SSO and SCIM, a company subdomain, audit logs, or a HIPAA business associate agreement at no extra charge, which comes free with Organizations from 15 users. Below that, the agreement costs $300 a month on Teams or smaller Organizations. For the full plan-by-plan detail, including seat billing and Enterprise, read our [Cal.com pricing guide](/articles/cal-com-pricing).

> 💡 **Trial Teams when someone joins:** Round robin and shared availability need Teams. Use the 14-day trial on real bookings before paying, since paid plans are non-refundable.

## A worked cost example

Take a three-person consultancy. Each partner can open a free account and pay nothing, with unlimited bookings and CRM sync, but nobody can share availability, rotate new leads or send a custom reminder. Moving the three to Teams costs $12 per user a month billed yearly, or $432 a year, against $576 a year on monthly billing at $16, by our arithmetic. Teams also brings 750 credits for each of the three members, 2,250 a month in all, worth $22.50 of texts or about 77 minutes of Cal.ai calls. Free accounts get no included credits, so the same 77 minutes there would cost $22.33 a month in bought credits, before the $5 phone number.

Payments change the picture again. If the consultancy books 20 paid sessions a month at $55 each through Cal Pay, fees at the rate of Cal.com's worked example come to $122.40 a month, or $1,468.80 a year, by our arithmetic. That is more than three times the yearly cost of Teams for all three partners. The lesson is simple. On Cal.com, the plan price is often the smaller part of the bill, and the processor you choose for payments can matter more than whether you pay for seats at all.

## FAQ

**Is Cal.com really free?**

Yes, for one user. The Free plan has no time limit and includes unlimited event types, calendars and bookings; team features need a paid plan.

**Does Cal.com Free include SMS reminders?**

Not for free. Texts use credits at $0.01 each, priced at Twilio's rate plus an 80% fee, and Free includes no credits, though you can buy them.

**Can I take payments on the free plan?**

Yes. Free includes Stripe and PayPal, and Cal Pay is on by default, but Cal Pay deducts fees from each payment and withdrawal.

**Does the Cal.com trial need a credit card?**

Cal.com says signing up needs no credit card, and Teams and Organizations each come with a 14-day free trial.

**Is self-hosting Cal.com free?**

The free self-hosted edition is Cal.diy, under the MIT license. It lacks teams, routing forms and workflows, and Cal.com says it is for personal, non-production use only.

**When should I upgrade from Cal.com Free?**

When a second person needs to share bookings, or when you want custom reminders, branding removal or Cal Video recording. Teams costs $12 per user a month billed yearly.

## The bottom line

Cal.com is genuinely free for one person: unlimited event types, calendars and bookings, CRM sync, payments and the Companion apps, with no time limit and no card. The costs arrive with sharing and messaging. Team scheduling, custom reminders, branding removal and recording need Teams, texts and AI calls need credits on every plan, and Cal Pay takes a fee from each payment. Cal.diy is free to download but meant for personal, non-production use. Start on Free, use the 14-day trial when a second person joins, and check the payment fees before your first paid booking.
