Yes. Softr has a Free plan at $0 per workspace. Softr says its Free plan is free forever. [1] It is a working tier rather than a demo, since Softr Databases, Workflows and the AI Co-Builder are all switched on. The ceilings are tight, though. A Free workspace allows 5 app users in total, 5 AI credits a month, 5,000 database records and 500 workflow actions a month, and every app carries a Softr badge with no custom domain. **Our verdict:** Free suits prototypes and very small internal tools, and the sixth person who needs to log in is usually the moment to pay.

**5 app users** — in total on Softr's Free plan, across all published apps; extra app users are sold only on Pro and Business

- **$0** — Free plan per workspace; Softr's FAQ calls it free forever
- **5 AI credits** — a month on Free, reset monthly; add-ons from +$10 per month for 100 credits
- **500 actions** — workflow actions a month on Free; workflows pause at the limit

## Inside the $0 workspace

Softr's comparison table, as we read it in November 2026, gives Free most of the building tools the paid plans get. Softr's comparison table lists unlimited apps on softr.app domains on Free, along with unlimited databases, workflows, forms and submissions, app agents and scheduled agents. The AI Co-Builder, custom vibe-coded blocks and Database AI agents sit in the Free column too, as do the Softr API and the MCP server. Up to 3 builders can work in Studio together. What separates Free from Basic is mostly volume and presentation, and the grid below spells out where each allowance stops.

| What the Free plan includes | Allowance |
|---|---|
| AI credits | 5 a month, reset monthly |
| Builders | Up to 3 |
| App users | 5 in total |
| Records (Softr Databases) | 5,000 per workspace, 1,000 per database |
| File storage | 1 GB |
| Workflow actions | 500 a month |
| Longest workflow run | 5 minutes |
| Workflow run history | 7 days |
| Record revision history | 7 days |
| Backups | Manual only |
| Branding | Softr badge |
| Custom domain | None |
| User groups | Visitors and logged-in users |
| Sign-in for app users | Email and password |
| Support | Email and AI chat |

Two rows deserve a closer look. The record cap applies to Softr Databases only, so an app reading an external source follows that source's own limits instead. The workflow row is a hard stop: once 500 actions are spent, workflows pause until the count renews or the workspace upgrades. Triggers and flow-control steps such as Wait, Branch and Filter cost nothing. Loops (Bulk actions) start on Basic, where every action inside a loop counts once per item. App history is narrower as well, because Free can restore only the latest 5 snapshots of an app.

Outside data works from day one. Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, SmartSuite and a REST API are all available as data sources on Free, so a team can put a login-protected front end on a base it already keeps elsewhere. The other side's own limits still apply. Softr's docs note that an Airtable Free plan allows 1,000 API calls a month, and Softr cannot raise that ceiling for you. Anyone weighing Softr against building directly in Airtable's own interfaces can compare the two in our [Softr vs Airtable breakdown](/articles/softr-vs-airtable).

> 💡 **List every login before building:** Free allows 5 app users in total across all published apps in the workspace, and builders added as app users do not count toward that limit.

## Five logins, counted across every app

The 5 app users on Free form one combined allowance. Paid plans split people into Team users, who share a business email domain with a builder, and Client users, who come from anywhere else. Free makes no such split, so five colleagues, five clients or any mix fill it equally. Softr counts unique emails across all published apps in the workspace: the same person in three apps counts once, deactivated users do not count, and builders can join an app as users without taking a slot. Anonymous visitors to public pages are not limited at all.

Past the fifth person, Free stops. Nothing can be bought on top of it. Extra app users are sold only on Pro and Business, and Basic is capped at Team 5 + Client 5 with no extras either. When a plan is full, new sign-ups can still be created but stay deactivated until someone frees a slot or the workspace moves up. That makes the user cap the likeliest reason a Free workspace changes plans, and our [Softr pricing guide](/articles/softr-pricing) shows what the Pro and Business allowances add and what each extra user costs per month.

## Five AI credits a month, and how to top them up

Each Free workspace receives 5 AI credits a month for everything AI: the AI Co-Builder, vibe-coded blocks, Ask AI on your data, Database AI agents, Softr Agents and AI steps inside workflows. Plan credits reset monthly and never roll over. Softr publishes no price per prompt, because use depends on the model, the task and the size of input and output. One example in Softr's help center puts a single AI edit of a pricing block at 0.89 credits. Generating one block also costs less than generating a whole app.

Running low does not force an upgrade. AI credit add-ons are sold on every plan, Free included, from +$10 per month for 100 credits up to +$500 per month for 5,000 credits, at the same price on either billing term. On the pricing card, a Free workspace with the smallest pack shows 105 AI credits a month for $10 per month. Add-on credits roll over for one month if unused. When credits hit zero, AI features pause with no overage charge, and the visual editor keeps working without AI.

One AI route spends nothing. Softr's MCP server is free on every plan and uses no Softr AI credits, because the connected assistant runs on its own model and quota. It can also delete records, tables and databases permanently unless its token is View only. An AI step inside a workflow, by contrast, spends AI credits and also counts as one of the 500 monthly actions, so an AI-heavy workflow drains both allowances at once.

> ⚠ **MCP deletions cannot be undone:** Softr's MCP server is free on every plan and spends no AI credits, but an assistant connected through it can permanently delete records, tables and databases unless the token is View only.

## The trial that comes with every sign-up

Separate from the Free plan, Softr's pricing FAQ says everyone gets a free trial at sign-up to experience everything Softr has to offer, with no credit card required. Once that first trial ends, Softr lets you extend it once by choosing a specific plan to trial again. Use that second round deliberately. Pick the plan you expect to buy, then test the feature that decides the purchase, such as Google sign-in or a custom domain.

What happens afterwards is predictable. The app stays available, but features reserved for paid plans stop working, and custom user groups created during the trial are removed. [2] That leaves the two default groups, logged-in users and visitors, so any permission design built on custom groups has to be redone or paid for. Custom code can be tested while the trial runs, which matters because the comparison table places custom code on Pro.

Templates follow the same no-card rule. Signing up to use one of Softr's nearly 100 templates is free, and most copy the interface plus a Softr Database loaded with sample data into your workspace, though some still run on Airtable or Google Sheets. A template cannot be applied to an app you already have, so choose it before you start building. Softr's Terms do allow paid templates, which means checking each template page is safer than assuming every one costs nothing.

## Signals that Free has run its course

Most workspaces leave Free for one of a handful of reasons, and each reason points to a specific plan rather than to the most expensive one. Check which of these you expect to hit in your first few months of use, because the first trigger you reach decides whether Basic is enough or whether you should go straight to Pro or Business:

- **A sixth login.** Basic adds Team 5 + Client 5; any more than that needs Pro.
- **Your own domain.** Basic includes 1 custom domain; Free has none.
- **The badge.** Basic swaps it for light branding; Pro removes branding.
- **Custom user groups, email codes or Google sign-in.** These start on Pro.
- **Webhooks, Call API or Run code in workflows.** Also Pro.
- **More than 500 workflow actions a month.** Basic allows 2,500 and Pro 10,000.
- **An installable app or push notifications.** The PWA, push and 2FA for app users start on Business.

Basic costs $25 per month billed monthly or $19 per month billed annually, per workspace. Pro, with its included 50 AI credits a month, costs $119 per month billed monthly or $99 per month billed annually, per workspace. By our arithmetic the step from Basic to Pro adds $94 per month on monthly billing or $80 per month on annual billing. Basic is the cheaper exit when the trigger is the domain, the badge or a handful of extra users, as long as you stay inside five Team and five Client users. A client portal that will pass five outside logins should skip Basic, because Basic sells no extra users.

Leaving a paid plan is just as simple. Canceling keeps the plan active to the end of the billing cycle, after which the workspace returns to Free, paid-only features stop and users over the cap stay deactivated. Softr refunds in full within 14 days of the first payment on monthly billing and within 30 days on yearly billing, by email; later payments are not covered.

> 💡 **Top up AI without upgrading:** AI credit add-ons are sold on Free too, from +$10 per month for 100 credits; add-on credits roll over for one month while plan credits do not.

## Half off for non-profits and schools

Non-profits and education institutions get 50% off Softr's self-serve plans, claimed through a form on Softr's site. [3] Softr does not publish what proof it asks for or how long the discount lasts, so ask before committing to annual billing. A charity that fits inside Free does not need the discount at all. It matters once volunteers, donors or students need logins beyond five, and on paid plans volunteers signing in with Gmail count as Client users, while staff on the organization's own email domain count as Team users when a builder in the workspace uses that same domain.

The free templates already cover the usual starting points. Softr offers Donation Tracker, Volunteer Management and Non-Profit Program Management templates, and for schools a Student Portal and a Work Order Management template for campus facilities. Each can be opened on the Free plan to test the flow before any discount form is filed. Build the pilot on Free, count the logins it will really need, then claim the discount on the plan those logins require.

## FAQ

**Does a new Softr workspace start on a paid plan?**

No. Every new workspace starts on Free until a payment method is added and the plan is upgraded, and one subscription covers one workspace.

**Can Softr move a paid workspace back to Free?**

Yes. Softr's Terms let it downgrade a customer to the Free plan when a fee is more than one week overdue and Softr has warned the customer.

**How do I close a Softr Free account?**

Softr's Terms say Free plan customers can terminate at any time with a button in their account. After termination, content, apps and personal data are deleted after eight weeks, and data can be requested by email in the meantime.

## The bottom line

Softr's Free plan is genuinely free and genuinely usable: apps on softr.app domains, a built-in database, workflows and the AI Co-Builder, all at $0 per workspace. Its limits are the 5 app users in total, 5 AI credits a month, 500 workflow actions and the Softr badge. Stay on Free while you prototype or serve a few colleagues, buy an AI credit add-on if only the AI runs short, and move to Basic or Pro the moment a sixth person needs to sign in.
