**$0** — TidyCal Free costs nothing, forever: no trial clock, no card and no booking cap.

- **1 calendar** — checked for conflicts on Free
- **1% fee** — on Stripe payments, paid by the client
- **$29 once** — Individual Lifetime, the first upgrade

## Yes, and it is not a trial

Yes. **TidyCal has a permanent Free plan that costs $0 and is not a trial** [7]. The pricing page calls it forever free, no card is needed, and nothing expires. It includes unlimited bookings and booking types, paid bookings, recurring and package bookings and your own booking page [1]. It connects one calendar, and Stripe payments carry a 1% fee that the client pays at checkout [7]. That is the deal. For a solo host it adds up to a working booking business at no cost to the host.

Free is TidyCal's entry tier, offered next to two lifetime plans and Pro, and every account starts there. TidyCal is operated by Sumo Group, the company behind AppSumo. Paid plans unlock more calendars, team tools and automatic video links. TidyCal offers no free trial of Pro, so Free is the only way to test TidyCal before paying. It is a real test, because the parts most solo hosts care about are already switched on. Use it.

## What Free already does for a solo host

### Unlimited booking types on your own page

Booking types and bookings are unlimited on every plan, Free included, and the Free plan sets no monthly booking cap. A coach can run a discovery call, a paid session and a package from one account. TidyCal says Calendly Free allows one event type, so this is the first place the two free plans part ways. Every account also gets a shareable booking page at tidycal.com/your-link, with no domain or hosting needed, and the link and profile can be edited on Free. **Changing the link breaks old links and embed codes**, though. Pick it once. Keep it.

### Paid sessions, recurring clients and packs

Free can charge for sessions through Stripe or PayPal, with its own price and currency for each booking type. Clients pay at booking and the money goes straight to the host, and revenue recovery for declined cards is on by default on every plan. Recurring bookings are on all plans too. A new recurring type defaults to weekly for 8 bookings, each session syncs as its own calendar event, and paid sessions are charged one by one before each session, through Stripe only. Weekly clients fit here without any upgrade.

Packages let clients choose a set number of dates and pay upfront, and TidyCal lists 3, 5 and 10 session packs on every plan. A tutor selling a ten-lesson pack collects the full price upfront, and the student then picks each of the ten dates. The pack keeps working even when lesson times change from week to week because of school schedules or holidays. One limit applies: a package cannot be rescheduled as a whole.

### Subscriptions and coupons

Subscriptions bill a client weekly, monthly or yearly and grant 1 to 100 booking credits per period. They are available on all plans and require Stripe, and unused credits do not roll over. TidyCal says Calendly does not list subscriptions on its pricing. A consultant charging a monthly retainer with two calls, the setup TidyCal's consultants page describes, can bill it on Free through Stripe. The client books each call from that month's credits and loses any credit left unused at month end. Coupons are included on every plan as well, and the platform fee is calculated on the discounted price.

> 💡 **Route single sessions through PayPal:** PayPal payments carry no TidyCal platform fee. It cannot handle subscriptions, recurring charges or storefront sales, so use it for one-off sessions.

## The 1% fee, and how PayPal avoids it

On Free, Stripe payments carry a 1% TidyCal platform fee on top of Stripe's processing fees [7]. **The client always pays it on Free; the host cannot absorb it** [37]. It appears as a separate line at checkout and is refunded with the payment. On a $200 session the client pays $202 at checkout. On $3,000 of monthly Stripe bookings, clients pay $30 a month in platform fees, an amount that only Pro removes and that a lifetime plan lets the host absorb instead of passing it on.

PayPal payments carry no TidyCal platform fee at all. PayPal is connected with an email address, and eligible US buyers also see Venmo. The catch is scope. PayPal cannot be used for subscriptions, recurring charges, storefront sales or cancellation fees, so it covers single sessions only. A host who sells only single sessions can route every payment through PayPal and pay TidyCal nothing. Anyone selling recurring sessions, subscriptions or digital products is pushed back to Stripe and the 1% line at checkout.

## One calendar, and a sync that can pause

**Free reads one calendar for conflicts** [7], while Individual Lifetime reads 10. Google, Microsoft 365 and Apple iCloud are supported. That is the first real limit, and it matters most for people who split their lives across calendars. A consultant who books client calls into a work calendar but keeps school runs and doctor visits in a separate family calendar risks double bookings on Free, because only one of those calendars can be checked before a slot is offered to a client.

Sync itself is two-way: TidyCal reads events for conflicts and writes bookings to the primary calendar, and on Free bookings always go to the primary calendar. The quieter risk is inactivity. On Free, background calendar syncing pauses after 90 days with no dashboard visit and no bookings, while paid plans are never paused. A dormant free page can therefore show stale availability to the next client who finds it. Log in at least once a quarter, or keep bookings flowing.

## The extras that cost nothing

### Selling, publishing and getting found

The digital storefront is available on all plans. It sells PDF, EPUB or ZIP files up to 64 MB through Stripe, up to 3 products can be added to a Stripe booking type, and on Free the 1% fee applies. Guides and workbooks fit here. The landing page builder is on all plans too, with 10 sections and 4 themes, although Free users get a prominent footer credit inviting visitors to build their own site. It works as a starter site. Listing booking types in the public TidyCal directory is also open to Free accounts. Listings show ratings and a starting price, and private booking types are not listed.

Reviews feed that directory. Clients rate a booking 1 to 5 stars with optional text, only the reviewer's first name is shown, and the feature works on every plan. Date polls are free as well, though they cannot collect payment.

### Booking rules, forms and reminders

Buffers before and after bookings, minimum notice and the rolling booking window can all be set on every plan, with defaults of 2 hours of notice and 60 days ahead. Custom intake questions work on every plan, in short text, long text, single choice, multiple choice, dropdown, date and phone number formats. There is no hard limit, though TidyCal recommends 3 to 5, and file uploads are not offered. Guest invites, up to 10 guests per attendee, are free too.

Every plan sends booker reminders 1 day and 1 hour before a booking. Free cannot change their timing or text. With reminders fixed that way, a client who books at 8am for a 10am session that same morning receives only the one-hour reminder, because a reminder whose send time has already passed is skipped. Automated before and after booking emails are also on all plans, up to 3 per account, sent from immediately to 14 days after a booking. They include review requests. **For new accounts the 3 defaults start switched off**, so turn them on.

### Languages, embeds, importing and support

Booker pages and emails can appear in any of 40 language options on every plan, but TidyCal does not translate your own titles and questions. Embedding a booking page or booking type works on every plan as an inline iframe that resizes itself. There is no popup option, but payments work inside the embed, so your site can host the whole flow.

The Calendly import works on every plan, including Free. It brings event types, bookings and invitees, while prices and reminder settings must be set again. Email support is on every plan, with a typical 8-hour response, and an in-app AI help chat hands off to email when it cannot help. Priority support is Pro only, and there is no phone line. Leaving is easy too: Free users can delete their own account, while paid users must contact support.

> ⚠ **No groups, caps or approvals:** Free has no group bookings, booking limits, manual approval or cancellation fees, and clients can reschedule until the booking starts.

## Where Free stops for sessions and clients

### Video links and locations

Free cannot auto-generate Zoom, Google Meet or Teams links. Instead, Free users paste a custom video link that is used for every booking, while phone and in-person locations work on all plans. Third-party reviews flag the same gap. Pasting one personal Zoom room into a Free booking type works for one-to-one calls, but every client receives the same link. A host running back-to-back sessions has to watch for a previous client still in the room when the next one joins. Free also allows one location per booking type, so a hybrid coach needs separate booking types for online and in-person sessions. That doubles setup.

### Groups, caps and approval

**Group bookings need Individual Lifetime, Agency Lifetime or Pro** [51]. On Free, the Group preset saves with one seat. One help article lists group bookings on Free, but the newer plan comparison does not, so trust the newer page. A yoga teacher who wants ten people in one Saturday class therefore needs at least Individual Lifetime, while the paid plans allow anywhere between 2 and 10,000 attendees in each slot.

Daily, weekly and monthly booking caps also need a paid plan, and limits set on Free before the change still work only as on or off. Without a daily cap, a host who opens eight hours a day for 30-minute sessions with no gaps can receive up to 16 bookings in one day. Free users who want a lighter day must shorten their availability, or lean on buffers and notice, rather than cap the count. Manual approval needs Individual, Pro or Agency, so on Free every request becomes a booking at once. Screening therefore starts at $29.

### Cancellations and late moves

Cancellation and no-show fees need a paid plan. On Free, clients can always cancel before the start time, and canceling a paid booking does not refund it automatically; refunds are done in Stripe or PayPal. Write your refund policy clearly. Rescheduling is always allowed on Free until the booking starts and cannot be limited. A client can move a 9:00am session at 8:55am, and the host can neither block the late change nor charge for it. Paid plans can turn rescheduling off or set a cutoff, though even there moving a booking never triggers a cancellation fee.

## Where Free stops for your brand and your data

Free gets the default emails, with template variables, while custom confirmation and reminder templates, CC addresses and a custom reply-to all need a paid plan. Messages look generic. Branding follows the same ladder, and every client sees it: Free shows full TidyCal branding on the booking page plus a prominent footer credit on the website page, both lifetime plans shrink it, and only Pro at $99 a year removes it from booking pages and the footer.

The data side is thinner still. AI content generation and the MCP server for AI assistants need a paid plan. So do GA4, Tag Manager and the TikTok Events API, dashboard page views and conversion are recorded only on paid plans, and CSV export is not on Free. A host running ads to a free booking page cannot measure which visitors booked, so a single $29 payment is the cheapest way to see conversions on TidyCal.

Automation is narrow too. On Free, SendFox is the only automation, Zapier and the REST API need a paid plan, and TidyCal has no webhooks on any plan. Free accounts cannot push bookings into a CRM automatically, so every new client has to be copied across by hand. Manual copying it is.

> 💡 **Paste one fixed video link:** Free cannot auto-generate Zoom, Meet or Teams links, but a pasted custom link works for every booking. Leave a gap between back-to-back calls.

## When Free is enough, and which upgrade to buy

Free is enough for a solo host with one calendar who sells individual sessions, packs or subscriptions, is happy to paste one video link, and has clients who accept a 1% checkout line, or pay by PayPal [37]. A solo tutor with one Google calendar, one fixed Zoom room and clients who pay per lesson or per pack through Stripe can run indefinitely on Free. TidyCal gets nothing from the host, and the clients themselves cover the 1% line at checkout. Upgrade only for a reason.

When a reason arrives, the ladder is short. **Individual Lifetime costs $29 once** and covers automatic video links, group bookings, booking limits, approvals and more calendars, plus analytics, custom emails and the API; it is sold on AppSumo. **Agency Lifetime at $79 once** adds round robin, collective meetings, a team page and SMS reminders, and new licenses seat 4 people including the owner. **Pro at $99 a year** makes sense for a custom domain, no branding, priority support or no platform fee, and for teams larger than 4. It has a 7-day refund window. Our [TidyCal pricing guide](/articles/tidycal-pricing) and [lifetime deal breakdown](/articles/tidycal-lifetime-deal) walk through each plan.

## Free TidyCal next to other free schedulers

Calendly Free has no group, collective or round-robin event types, and TidyCal says it offers one event type and one calendar connection. Each wins somewhere. Calendly creates a video link for every booking but stops at one event type and sends no automated reminders, while TidyCal allows unlimited booking types and two reminders but makes the host paste one fixed video link. Our [TidyCal vs Calendly comparison](/articles/tidycal-vs-calendly) goes deeper.

Further afield, Setmore has a free plan with no time limit, but no recurring appointments or deposits. YouCanBookMe Free covers one calendar and one booking page, and Acuity Scheduling has no free plan at all. Against that field, **TidyCal Free stands out on payments, packages and subscriptions**. Compare those three directly.

## Setting up Free without the usual mistakes

The whole setup takes a handful of steps, and most of the common mistakes come from skipping one of them. Follow this order:

1. Sign up and connect your main calendar, making sure reading is enabled on the calendar that holds your busy time.
2. Create a booking type and set its price, location and questions.
3. Connect Stripe or PayPal, and remember that clients pay the 1% fee at checkout on Stripe.
4. Turn on the three automated emails, which start off.
5. Copy your link or embed it, and do not change the link after sharing it.
6. Log in now and then so background sync does not pause.

> ⚠ **Sync pauses on idle accounts:** Background calendar sync pauses after 90 days with no dashboard visit and no bookings, so a dormant page can show stale availability.

## FAQ

**Is TidyCal free forever?**

Yes. The Free plan is a permanent $0 plan, not a trial, with unlimited bookings and booking types and no card required.

**What do you lose on TidyCal Free?**

Automatic video links, group bookings, booking limits, approvals, cancellation fees, custom emails, AI features, analytics, Zapier, the API and more than one calendar connection.

**Can I take payments on TidyCal Free?**

Yes, through Stripe or PayPal. Stripe payments carry a 1% TidyCal platform fee that the client pays at checkout; PayPal payments carry no platform fee.

**Does TidyCal have a free trial of Pro?**

No. Pro has no free trial and a 7-day refund window, so Free is the only way to test TidyCal before paying.

**Does TidyCal Free work with Zoom?**

Not automatically. Free users paste one custom video link that is used for every booking; auto-generated Zoom, Google Meet or Teams links need a paid plan.

**Which TidyCal plan should I upgrade to?**

Individual Lifetime at $29 once covers automatic video links, groups, limits, approvals and more calendars. Agency Lifetime at $79 adds team tools, and Pro at $99 a year removes branding and the platform fee.

## The bottom line

TidyCal is genuinely free, with no trial clock and no booking cap, and Free already sells sessions, packs, subscriptions and digital files. Its limits are one calendar, no automatic video links, no group sessions and the 1% Stripe fee, which clients rather than hosts pay. Start there. Upgrade only when something hurts. In money terms, a host can start at $0, move to a single $29 payment when automatic video links or a second calendar matter, and still pay less over three years than one year of a Calendly Standard seat billed annually at $120.
