Kit and beehiiv are the two creator platforms in our email category, and they are compared 140 times a
month in the United States. They answer the same question, how a creator earns from email, in
different ways. Kit centres on selling products and running funnels. beehiiv centres on the newsletter
as a publication, with a website, podcast host and ad network around it. We reviewed beehiiv on the
same day as Kit, from its own pages, so the figures below are like for like.

## The short answer

Below 10,000 subscribers Kit is cheaper on every published band, and its free plan is four times
larger and allows selling subscriptions. At 10,000 and 25,000 the two cost the same. At about 100,000
beehiiv is cheaper. Kit charges 0.6 points above card processing on sales; beehiiv charges nothing on
subscriptions. Kit refunds within 30 days by its help centre; beehiiv states that all sales are final.
Our composite scores: Kit 3.79, beehiiv 3.61.

> 💡 **undefined:** Run several newsletters on beehiiv's single bill.

## Free plans

Kit Free covers 10,000 subscribers and includes digital products, subscriptions, unlimited broadcasts,
forms, landing pages and the API [6]. beehiiv Free covers 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends, a
website, podcast feed and community, and allows one digital product but no paid subscriptions [44].

For a writer who wants to charge readers before paying the platform, only Kit allows it.

## Plans and prices

| Subscribers | Kit Creator monthly | beehiiv Lite monthly | Kit Pro monthly | beehiiv Pro monthly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $39 | $59 | $79 | $109 |
| 2,500 to 3,000 | $59 | $79 | $99 | $149 |
| 5,000 | $89 | $109 | $139 | $199 |
| 10,000 | $139 | $139 | $189 | $239 |
| 25,000 | $199 | $199 | $279 | $349 |
| about 100,000 | $679 | $469 | $879 | $699 |

From both vendors' published prices [2] [44]. On annual billing Kit takes two months off;
beehiiv between about 13% and 17%, depending on plan and tier.

Kit's Pro is cheaper than beehiiv's Pro at every size up to 25,000, and both remove branding at
different levels: Kit removes it on Creator [3], beehiiv only on Pro [44]. For a creator who
wants white-label, Kit at $39 competes with beehiiv at $109.

> ⚠ **undefined:** Paid subscribers on Kit cannot be moved to beehiiv directly.

## Fees on what you earn

| Revenue | Kit | beehiiv |
|---|---|---|
| Paid subscriptions | 3.5% + 30c, processing included [2] | 0% + Stripe 2.9% + $0.30 |
| Sponsorships and ads | 23.5% of ad revenue [32] | Margin not published |
| Paid recommendations | 20% + 3.5% transaction [31] | 20% [48] |

On a $10 monthly subscription Kit's fee is $0.65 and beehiiv's Stripe fee $0.59. *Our arithmetic.* At
1,000 subscribers the plan gap is $198 a year in Kit's favour on annual billing ($390 against $588),
and it equals the fee gap at about $33,000 a year of paid revenue.

On advertising, Kit publishes its cut, 23.5%, and pays 45 days after the month closes with no minimum
[32]. beehiiv publishes what each campaign pays the publisher but not its own margin.

## Growth: who decides the next tier

Kit moves you up automatically: "we automatically upgrade you to the next tier." [5]. Down is your
choice, at the next billing date [4]. beehiiv reverses the first half: moving up is opt-in, and with
it off, beehiiv warns that sends may be delayed when the list exceeds the plan [45]. Kit never holds
a send because the list grew; beehiiv never bills growth you did not approve.

## Refunds

Kit's billing article: "We have a 30-day refund policy, so if you cancel, you can request any funds paid
in the last 30 days to be refunded in full." [4]. Kit's terms say otherwise for cancellation before
the period ends [8]. beehiiv is unambiguous in the other direction: "All sales are final upon
subscription" [46].

## Multiple newsletters

This is beehiiv's clearest advantage. beehiiv bills a whole workspace, with three publications on Lite
and ten on Pro, as one list [44]. Kit has one list and one custom domain per account and advises "A
fresh account for every distinct audience" [22], each with its own plan. Three newsletters of 3,000
each cost three Kit Creator plans at the 3,000 band, $177 a month, against one beehiiv Lite at the
10,000 tier, $139. *Our arithmetic.*

## Moving paid subscribers between them

From Kit to beehiiv, beehiiv's own guide says paid subscriptions managed through Kit and Stripe Express
cannot be moved: "there is not a way to migrate over paid subscriptions to beehiiv" [47]. Readers
have to subscribe again or receive complimentary access. From beehiiv to Kit, Kit's guide starts by
mapping vocabulary: beehiiv posts become Kit broadcasts, automations become visual automations or rules,
and paid subscriptions become a Kit paid newsletter [35].

## Website, podcast and community

beehiiv includes a website builder, podcast hosting and a community on every plan [44]. Kit offers
landing pages and a newsletter site, with no podcast host or community. A creator who wants one account
for everything chooses beehiiv; one who already has a site and wants email and commerce chooses Kit.

## Support

Kit: 24/7 email and chat on paid plans, free accounts answered within 24 hours [2] [6]. beehiiv:
tickets on paid plans, a chatbot on Free, and no phone or email channel. In our corpora, support is
positive in 26 of 38 Kit reviews that mention it and in 12 of 19 beehiiv ones [9].

## Three creators, priced on both

**A writer with 1,800 subscribers who wants to charge.** Kit Free allows paid subscriptions at 3.5% plus
30 cents per sale [6] [2]: $0 a month. beehiiv needs Lite at the 2,500 tier for paid
subscriptions: $79 a month or $828 a year [44].

**A course creator with 6,000 subscribers.** Kit Creator at the 8,000 band, $119 a month or $1,190 a
year, with sequences [2]. beehiiv Lite at the 10,000 tier, $139 a month or $1,428 a year, with ten
live automations [44].

**A media brand with 95,000 subscribers across three newsletters.** On Kit, Kit's own advice is an
account per audience [22]; even in one account, Creator at about 100,000 is $679 a month. beehiiv
Lite at the 100,000 tier, one bill for all three: $469 a month [44]. beehiiv saves $210 a month.

## Two philosophies of growth billing

Kit and beehiiv made opposite choices about the moment a list outgrows its plan, and both explain why.
Kit upgrades automatically so that "nothing in your account stops working" when you pass a band, and
leaves downgrades to you because "subscriber counts often dip and recover inside the same month"
[4]. beehiiv leaves the upgrade to you, at the cost of delayed sends if you do not act [45].

For a creator who sells, Kit's choice is safer: a launch email never waits on a billing decision. For a
writer on a tight budget, beehiiv's choice is safer: the bill never moves without consent. Neither
vendor charges for growth retroactively beyond the prorated difference.

## Paid newsletters on each

On Kit, a paid newsletter is a subscription product, billed monthly, quarterly or yearly, and its issues
are broadcasts filtered to the people subscribed to it [26]. A reader who unsubscribes from the list
stops being charged [27]. On beehiiv, paid subscriptions are a tier of the publication with
paywalls, coupons and, on Pro, several tiers and group subscriptions. beehiiv is built around the paid
publication; Kit treats it as one product among several. A writer whose whole business is the paid
newsletter will find beehiiv's tools deeper; a creator for whom the newsletter supports courses and
coaching will find Kit's more connected.

## Recommendation networks

Both run a network where newsletters recommend each other. Kit enrols every account in its Creator
Network, with five Smart Recommendation slots on Free and priority for paid plans [6]. Paid
recommendations, where other creators pay per subscriber you send, run through SparkLoop with a 20%
service fee and a 3.5% transaction fee [31]. beehiiv's recommendation network is free on every plan,
and its paid recommendations carry a 20% fee built into the marketplace price [48].

## Account checks

Kit checks every account before it can send: "We ask that all new accounts send us a link to their blog
before we enable email sending." [7]. beehiiv lets accounts send and reviews them as they go, with
automated checks that may pause sending. The trade is delay at the start on Kit against the risk of a
pause later on beehiiv. Both are real.

## AI connections

Both connect to AI assistants over MCP. Kit's AI Connectors work with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other
MCP clients on paid plans; on Free, tools show an upgrade prompt instead of running [39]. Every Kit
tool is annotated as read-only, destructive, idempotent or open-world [40]. beehiiv's MCP gives read
access on Free and write access from Lite.

## Teams

Kit Creator allows two team members and Pro unlimited [3]. beehiiv Lite allows two seats, Pro ten,
Enterprise unlimited [44]. A team of five pays Kit Pro or beehiiv Pro. Seats decide it.

## Our scores, axis by axis

| Axis | Kit | beehiiv |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | 3.7 | 3.4 |
| Capability and depth | 3.8 | 3.9 |
| Ease of use | 4.0 | 3.9 |
| Integrations | 3.9 | 3.4 |
| AI | 3.5 | 3.6 |
| Support and reliability | 3.6 | 3.1 |
| User sentiment | 4.0 | 3.9 |
| Docs and learning | 3.8 | 3.7 |
| Composite | 3.79 | 3.61 |

Kit leads on value, integrations and support; beehiiv on capability and AI. The composite gap comes
mostly from value and support, the two axes where Kit's free plan and refund window count.

## Moving from beehiiv to Kit

Kit's guide for beehiiv users begins with vocabulary because the two platforms name the same things
differently: a beehiiv post is a Kit broadcast, a beehiiv publication website is a Kit newsletter site,
beehiiv Boosts are Kit paid recommendations, and a beehiiv dynamic segment is a Kit segment [35].
Export subscribers from beehiiv with their tags, map them to Kit tags, rebuild automations as visual
automations, and recreate the paid tier as a Kit subscription product. Send the verification link to
Kit before the import [7].

## Common mistakes in this comparison

1. **Comparing plans by name.** Kit Creator and beehiiv Lite are the entry paid plans, but Kit Creator
removes branding and beehiiv Lite does not [3] [44].
2. **Ignoring the number of newsletters.** One audience per account on Kit [22]; one bill per
   workspace on beehiiv.
3. **Assuming paid subscribers move freely.** From Kit to beehiiv they cannot be imported directly
   [47].

## The verdict in one paragraph

Kit wins on price for small and mid-sized lists, on refunds, on white-label at the entry level and on
support; beehiiv wins on multiple newsletters, on very large lists and on everything around the
newsletter itself.

## FAQ

**Is Kit cheaper than beehiiv?**

Below 10,000 subscribers, yes on every band; level at 10,000 and 25,000; beehiiv is cheaper at about 100,000.

## Who should choose which

**Choose Kit** for a list under 10,000, for selling products and courses, for white-label at the entry
price, and for a refund window.

**Choose beehiiv** for several newsletters on one bill, for lists near 100,000, for a website and podcast
in the same account, and for paid subscription revenue large enough that 0.6 points matters.

Our composite scores: Kit 3.79, beehiiv 3.61.
