The Krisp app you download is a desktop program for Mac and Windows, and it needs a Krisp account before it will install. Since version 3.0 a small Krisp Downloader fetches the right build for your computer, including a separate Mac build per chip type, and handles later updates [1]. Phones get a different app from the App Store or Google Play, and Google Meet users can add a Chrome extension. There is no Linux or Chrome OS app. The phone apps are free to download. The meeting features are not, once the 7-day free trial ends: Core is $8 per user per month billed annually or $16 per user per month billed monthly, and the [trial rules are covered here](/articles/is-krisp-free).

**700 MB** — Approximate size of the full Krisp desktop installer package, fetched by the Krisp Downloader.

- **8 GB RAM** — Krisp's recommended memory for its Mac and Windows desktop app
- **iOS 16.2+** — Minimum iOS version for the Krisp AI Meeting Note Taker iPhone and iPad app
- **4 vCPU** — Krisp's recommended size per virtual desktop (2 vCPU minimum)

## Pick the build that matches your device

Krisp ships four pieces of software, and each one does a different job. Only the desktop app sits in the audio path of your calls, so it is the one that cleans noise and converts accents during calls. The browser extension and the phone apps are mainly capture tools for notes (the extension also carries listener-side accent conversion on YouTube, which Krisp says is free). Before downloading anything, check the recommended hardware: Krisp says the app may still run below these figures, but it then suggests a lower-power mode, and its help warns that accent conversion can lose quality on a below-minimum device without showing high CPU use.

| Platform | What you install | Recommended minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Mac | Krisp desktop app, build matched to Apple silicon or Intel | macOS 14 Sonoma, Intel Core i5 or Apple silicon, 8 GB RAM |
| Windows | Krisp desktop app plus its audio drivers | 64-bit Windows 10 (1903 or later) or Windows 11, Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5, 8 GB RAM, .NET 4.6.2 |
| Chrome browser | Krisp AI Note Taker for Google Meet | Chrome |
| iPhone and iPad | Krisp AI Meeting Note Taker | iOS 16.2 or later |
| Android | Krisp AI Meeting Note Taker | Krisp publishes no Android version |

Linux and Chrome OS users have no desktop app [2]. Virtual desktops do not rescue Chromebooks either, because Krisp's VDI support excludes Chromebook clients. The one route on Linux is Krisp inside Discord, which Discord says runs there. It is free inside Discord, but it only cleans your own microphone, adds no meeting notes or accent conversion, and is a separate product from the Krisp app you download from krisp.ai.

## Installing the desktop app on a Mac or a PC

Start by creating your Krisp account. No account, no install. The full package weighs about 700 MB and comes from Krisp's content server at cdn.krisp.ai, so a slow or filtered connection matters more than disk space. You cannot change the install folder on either system. Once the app is in place it contacts Krisp's servers at every startup and syncs with your account every 6 hours. Krisp's security page adds that the app stops if it cannot reach Krisp's backend.

### On a Mac

Download the build for your chip: Apple silicon Macs and Intel Macs get different installers. A standard user account can install it, not only an administrator. **Older macOS can block the install.** Krisp's help says anyone still on macOS Ventura or earlier must update the operating system before a new Krisp version will install. Plan that upgrade first. One more Mac detail trips up office networks: the Mac app does not pick up system proxy settings on its own, while the Windows app does.

### On Windows

Windows needs administrator rights for the installation. Two entries land in your app list, the Krisp app and a separate driver package called KrispDriversInstaller, and both matter when you remove Krisp later. After setup, Krisp launches with Windows by default and keeps running in the background. Corporate firewalls need outbound TCP port 443 open, and Krisp recommends allowing every address under krisp.ai.

> 💡 **Use Battery Saver on older laptops:** Krisp's Battery Saver performance mode uses considerably less CPU and RAM than Auto or Maximal Removal, with a slight difference in noise cancellation quality.

## Rolling Krisp out to a whole team

IT gets two bulk routes. On Windows, admins deploy an MSI installer and can append a parameter that ties devices to the team login. On Mac, a PKG installer runs through Terminal, with a key.config file placed inside the krisp.app bundle for the same purpose. Krisp's Terminal guide says anyone with admin access can install this way on either system, at system level or user level, and its deployment guide adds that the Mac route also updates existing installs remotely and in bulk.

Virtual desktops are supported with conditions. Krisp can be installed on the VDI itself or on the endpoint with its drivers passed through, on Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix Workspace, VMware Horizon and AWS Workspace. Windows Remote Desktop Connection is not supported. Multi-user Citrix sessions need Krisp on the endpoint instead. Windows 10, eLux and Mac clients work. Krisp sets a floor of 2 vCPU and recommends 4 vCPU per virtual machine.

After rollout, versions need a policy. Krisp's help, listed for Enterprise teams, lets admins choose Auto-update, Auto-download or Notify-to-update, schedule the days and hours when updates run, and pin a version so every seat stays on the same build. Enterprise teams can also run Krisp's Network Checker from the app to confirm that each required domain is reachable before users report problems.

## Signing in and pointing your calls at Krisp

Krisp has no passwords. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email or with a Google or Microsoft account, and you can add two-factor authentication through an authenticator app plus a recovery code. Turning two-factor on signs you out of every other device. Sessions last 30 days by default; an admin can cut that to 14 days, 7 days or 24 hours. Sign-up also asks for a Google or Outlook calendar by default, and skipping that step during a trial goes through Krisp's sales team.

Once you are signed in, the app adds Krisp Microphone and Krisp Speaker to your computer. They only appear while you stay signed in. Inside Krisp, choose your real headset; inside Zoom, Teams, Meet or any calling app, choose the two Krisp devices. Chrome, Opera and Edge let you pick Krisp Microphone, but Firefox and Safari cannot use Krisp Speaker. Then test. The built-in noise test plays your voice with and without Krisp, and the clip never leaves your machine. Per-app settings for Zoom and Teams are in our [noise cancellation guide](/articles/krisp-noise-cancellation).

> ⚠ **Do not chain virtual microphones:** Krisp Microphone and Krisp Speaker do not work with other virtual microphones, and chaining Krisp with another virtual device can cause feedback, echo or double processing.

## The Chrome extension and the phone apps

The Chrome extension, Krisp AI Note Taker for Google Meet, captures Meet audio and speaker labels without sending a bot into the call [3]. The Web Store showed version 1.0.9, updated in October 2026. Krisp's blog says the extension ties more deeply into Meet, your calendar and the agenda when the desktop app is installed too. It also carries a second feature: Krisp says listener-side accent conversion on YouTube videos is free (November 2026), and its Chrome Web Store listing says it needs no subscription or credit card. That adapts accented English for your own ears only. The paid accent features and their daily hours are in our [accent conversion guide](/articles/krisp-accent-conversion).

The iPhone, iPad and Android apps share one name, Krisp AI Meeting Note Taker, and both are free to download for an existing Krisp account. The iOS app is 117 MB. They record in-person meetings, import audio files and voice notes, place outgoing calls to US numbers with call recording, and send the Krisp Bot into Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. On Android you paste the meeting link; on iOS you can also pick an upcoming calendar event. Notes go to HubSpot from Core and to Salesforce from Advanced.

What the phone apps leave out matters as much. Krisp's noise cancellation for your calls and meetings runs in the desktop app for Mac and Windows; the mobile apps are for recording, notes and transcription. They cannot record Google Meet. In-app purchases of Core and Advanced exist only in the US App Store, and purchases made inside the apps are processed by Apple or Google under their own terms. Everywhere else, buy the plan from the web account.

> 💡 **Switch teams without reinstalling:** If one email belongs to more than one team in Krisp, you can switch between those teams inside the desktop app.

## Updating, uninstalling and deleting your account

Individual users rarely touch updates, since the Krisp Downloader handles them. Removal takes more care. You need admin access on the computer. On a Mac, open Finder and run Krisp's Uninstaller. On Windows, go to Apps and features and remove both KrispDriversInstaller and Krisp, not just one of them [4].

Macs sometimes keep Krisp Microphone and Krisp Speaker in the device lists after the uninstaller finishes, and Krisp's help treats that as the signal for a manual removal. The fix has three parts: delete the Krisp app and its uninstaller folders, delete KrispAudio.driver from /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL, then restart coreaudiod from Terminal with admin rights. That restart is what clears the leftover audio devices.

**Removing the app and canceling are separate jobs.** Canceling happens on the Billing page, under Manage subscription, then Downgrade, and paid features stay until the end of the cycle. Deleting the account is a further step. Self-service deletion works only for an account with one team and one seat, and it removes every recording, transcript and summary permanently. Any larger team needs its Admin to email support@krisp.ai. Export first: recordings download as MP3 and transcripts as .txt files with timestamps and speakers.

## FAQ

**Do I need to download anything to use the Krisp Bot?**

No separate download. The optional Krisp Bot is sent from the desktop or mobile app, or added as a calendar guest at assistant@krisp.ai, which makes it join Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams automatically, even if you do not attend. The host must admit it.

**What happens to the app if my admin removes my Krisp seat?**

Krisp's help says removing a user from the team permanently deletes that user's data, including recordings; export first.

**Can I record meetings with the Chrome extension on Zoom or Teams?**

The extension, Krisp AI Note Taker for Google Meet, captures Google Meet only. For Zoom and Microsoft Teams, use the desktop app or send the optional Krisp Bot.

## The bottom line

Get Krisp for a Mac or Windows PC that meets the recommended specs, because Krisp's noise cancellation for your calls and meetings runs in that desktop app; the mobile apps are for recording, notes and transcription. Add the Chrome extension if your meetings run in Google Meet, and the phone app if you record conversations in a room or on outgoing US calls. Linux and Chromebook users have no desktop route at all. Before uninstalling, export what you want to keep. Cancel billing separately.
