- **2 Social Sets** — on Growth, for a second location or brand
- **1-2 business days** — typical support reply, no phone

## Later for a small business, in short

Later is a social media planner built around a visual calendar and an Instagram grid preview, and it has a page aimed squarely at small business owners. For a bakery, a boutique or a salon, it does four jobs in one login: it schedules posts to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat, it turns your bio link into a small website, it collects email addresses from that page, and on the Growth plan it pulls customer comments and messages into one inbox. **Most owners will choose between two plans.** Starter fits one brand run by one person. Growth fits two locations or two brands, or an owner who wants a helper to log in too.

What the owner gives up is just as clear. Later has no public API and no Zapier connection, it does not post to Google Business Profile, and it stopped supporting X on August 28, 2025. The trial needs a card and turns into a paid plan on its own. We read Later's small business page, its pricing page and its help center to map what an owner gets for the money, and where the fine print bites.

> ⚠ **The trial turns into a bill:** The 14-day trial needs a card and converts automatically, and plans are non-refundable except case by case. Cancel before day 14 if Later is not a fit.

## Starter or Growth: one brand, or two locations

### What a Social Set means for your shop

Later counts your accounts in **Social Sets**. One Social Set holds one profile per network: one Instagram, one Facebook Page, one TikTok and so on, up to eight profiles. Starter costs **$25 a month billed monthly, or $18.75 a month billed yearly**, and gives you one Social Set and one user [1]. That covers a single café with its own Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Growth costs $50 a month billed monthly, or $37.50 billed yearly, with two Social Sets and two users. A second shop with its own Instagram account needs that second set, because two Instagram profiles can never sit in one. Starter sells no add-ons at all. It cannot grow with you.

### Does 30 posts a month cover your week?

Starter allows **30 posts per profile a month**, which works out to roughly one a day on each network. Growth raises that to 180, and Scale removes the cap. YouTube Shorts sit outside these caps and are unlimited on every paid plan. The details matter more than the headline. Posts count when you schedule them, not when they publish, and Stories count toward the Instagram total. Drafts count too, from the moment you save them [2]. Deleting a draft or a scheduled post in the same month returns it to your count, and every count resets on the first of the month at midnight UTC, whatever your renewal date. An owner who posts a feed photo and a Story most days on Instagram will run out halfway through the month. Plan for that.

> 💡 **Count drafts before you plan:** Drafts and Stories count toward Starter's 30 posts per profile from the moment you save them. Delete drafts you will not use in the same month to get the count back.

## Planning the week: the calendar, the grid and Best Time to Post

The visual calendar is the part of Later that small business owners tend to like first. You upload photos and videos to a media library, drag them onto the calendar and see your Instagram grid as it will look before anything goes live. The planner shows up to 60 upcoming posts, and the drag-to-rearrange grid works in the iOS and Android apps as well as on desktop. Uploads do not count against your post limit, so you can load a month of product shots on a quiet Sunday. Paid plans see the calendar a year back and forward. Canva and Dropbox connect to the media library. Google Drive no longer does, which surprises owners who keep their photos there.

**Best Time to Post** comes with Starter and suggests when your audience is most active on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. It needs an Instagram business or creator profile connected to a Facebook Page, and a TikTok Business account for TikTok. Starter shows best times for one profile at a time; seeing several profiles together is a Growth feature. On mobile it covers Instagram only, so set it up on desktop and save the times as Quick Schedule slots for the app. Instagram posts and Reels auto publish from business profiles, while Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Threads always auto publish. Stories with stickers, polls or links still come to your phone as a reminder to finish by hand.

## Link in Bio as a mini website

### Email sign-ups and tracking

Every plan, Free included, gets a **Link in Bio** page at linkin.bio followed by your name. It mirrors your Instagram grid as clickable tiles, with up to five links on an Instagram post and one on a TikTok post, plus buttons, banners and a multi-item banner for a product roundup. For a small business the quiet win is **email collection**: a sign-up form on the page sends new addresses to Mailchimp or into a CSV export, which Later still labels beta. Unsubscribes are not removed from later CSV files, so filter them yourself before you send anything. You get one Link in Bio page per Social Set, so a two-location business on Growth can run two.

Starter removes the Later banner and adds custom tracking parameters and search engine settings. Growth adds page views by location and Pinterest click tracking. Google Analytics connects on every plan. For an owner who has no website, or a slow one, this page can stand in as the place customers land from Instagram and TikTok. Our [Later Link in Bio guide](/articles/later-link-in-bio) walks through the setup screen by screen.

### Tagging products on Instagram

Shops with an Instagram Shop can tag products in posts from Later, but **only on Growth and Scale**. Instagram has to approve each product first, and a post that carries a tag still pending approval fails to publish. You can tag up to five products on an image or Reel and up to 20 on a carousel, and the post must be set to auto publish. Stories cannot carry product tags, and gift cards and some variants, such as specific colors, cannot be tagged at all. Product tags are also limited to select profiles in certain markets, while Link in Bio is open to every Later account, which makes the bio page the safer storefront for most small sellers.

## Answering customers in Social Inbox

Customer questions arrive as comments and direct messages, and on Growth and Scale **Social Inbox** collects them in one place. It covers Instagram and Facebook messages, plus comments on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. TikTok messages are not included. The inbox is desktop only and still labeled beta, and Free and Starter users see only a locked preview [3]. An Instagram message can be answered from Later only within seven days of arriving, so a question left over a long holiday weekend may have to be answered in the Instagram app instead. Check it daily.

Two limits matter for a family business. You can assign messages to a teammate and track who owns each one, which helps when two people share the phone duty. But the account owner cannot restrict a member's access to the inbox, so anyone you invite to schedule posts can also read customer messages. Think about that before inviting a part-time helper. The inbox needs the Instagram profile connected to a Facebook Page. For a shop that gets a handful of messages a day, it saves switching between apps. It does not replace a help desk.

## When a helper posts for you: approvals

Approvals and collaboration start on Growth, the same plan that adds the second user. The owner invites a helper, who joins as a Member by default and can request approval but not give it. You can also send an external review link to a business partner without a Later account; it expires after seven days, has no password and only lets that person leave feedback comments. Formal approval needs a team member with the Reviewer role. There is one trap. **Approval does not block publishing.** A scheduled post goes live at its time whether you approved it or not, so a helper who wants sign-off should save posts as drafts. Approvals do not cover Instagram Stories, and comment notifications inside the app need Scale.

A second helper on Growth costs $5 a month billed monthly, or $3.75 billed yearly, as an add-on. Growth with that extra user comes to $55 a month on monthly billing, by our arithmetic. Add-ons can only be bought on desktop, and removing one gives no refund for the unused time. It simply stops at the end of the cycle.

> ⚠ **Approval does not stop a post:** A scheduled post goes live at its time even if nobody approved it. Ask helpers to save posts as drafts until you sign off.

## AI captions and analytics for a busy owner

The AI side is small. The Caption Writer writes captions and the Ideas tool, on desktop only, suggests posts. Later still labels both beta, and they draw on one pool of monthly credits: one credit buys one caption, or three ideas. Starter gets 5 credits a month, Growth 50 and Scale 100, and they reset on the first of the month. Five credits will not carry a daily posting habit. The Caption Writer works in English only, and Growth and Scale can buy 100 more credits for $5 a month billed monthly. Starter cannot. Treat it as a helper for a blank page, not a writer.

Analytics keep three months of history on Starter and a year on Growth for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, with Pinterest held at three months on every plan. For Threads, Later's pages differ: some promise three months of history on every plan. Starter's Instagram post performance covers your last 30 posts. There are no analytics for LinkedIn Pages, YouTube Shorts or Snapchat, and Meta has removed impressions, profile views and website clicks from the Instagram data. Audience details need at least 100 followers. For an owner with no time, the most useful piece may be the **weekly summary email**, which lands on Monday afternoon for paid plans and covers Instagram. Our [Later analytics guide](/articles/later-analytics) goes deeper on the numbers.

## What Later does not do for a small business

Some gaps decide the matter for a local business before price does. Later does not post to Google Business Profile, which many shops rely on for search and maps. It has no public API, no Zapier and no HubSpot connection, so you cannot push new followers or email sign-ups into other tools automatically beyond the Mailchimp link. X support ended on August 28, 2025, so a restaurant that still posts specials on X needs another tool for that. YouTube means Shorts only. Personal Instagram profiles no longer connect, so switch to a business profile first. Carousels top out at ten items with one caption. Each gap is small. Together they add up.

The mobile apps also do less than the desktop. Snapchat scheduling is desktop only, Threads and YouTube Shorts do not schedule from Android, and billing settings live on the web. The Android app has no Instagram analytics, and iOS shows a limited overview. An owner who runs everything from a phone should check those gaps against the networks they use. *None of these are bugs.* They are the edges of what Later chose to build, and for a busy owner they decide whether one tool is enough.

## What it really costs a year, and the billing traps

### The yearly numbers

Paying monthly for a full year of Starter comes to $300, against $225 on yearly billing, a saving of $75. Growth runs $600 a year paid monthly against $450 paid yearly, a saving of $150. Growth with one extra user billed yearly comes to $495 a year, by our arithmetic. Then add tax. Taxes are extra on all of it, added on top and shown separately on the receipt. Later charges in US dollars, takes major credit cards, and accepts no PayPal or bank transfers. Qualified nonprofits get 50% off the yearly Growth plan when they sign up on desktop; the discount skips add-ons and does not combine with other discounts.

### Read this before the trial

The **14-day trial needs a card** and converts to a paid plan automatically unless you cancel before it ends. Plans renew on their own and are non-refundable, with exceptions handled case by case that may carry early termination fees [4]. Only one trial is allowed per account, and the checkout asks you to choose monthly or yearly billing up front. Business software review sites rate the product well; Trustpilot is very negative, and its newest reviews are dominated by charges after the trial and refused refunds. Set a reminder for day 12 the moment you start.

Buying in the iOS app changes the rules. Apple handles billing and refunds, only Starter, Growth and Scale are offered, add-ons and coupons are not available, and you cancel through Apple. You must also downgrade to Free before you can delete the account. Upgrades are prorated and immediate; downgrades wait until the next cycle, and posts over the new limit stop publishing after the paid plan ends. Support on paid plans is by email or a chatbot-opened ticket, with replies that typically take one to two business days and no phone line. That is slow when a post fails on a Friday.

## Later next to Buffer on a tight budget

Buffer is the obvious comparison for a small shop, and it prices differently: per channel rather than per set of profiles. Buffer's Free plan covers three channels and one user, with ten scheduled posts per channel at a time that refill as they publish, and no card. Buffer Essentials costs $6 per channel a month billed monthly, or $5 billed yearly, with unlimited scheduled posts under fair use. An owner on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok would pay $18 a month on Buffer Essentials against $25 on Later Starter, both billed monthly, by our arithmetic. Add Buffer's Start Page as the bio link and it counts as a fourth paid channel, which brings Buffer to $24 a month billed monthly, by our arithmetic. Buffer's trial drops to Free when no card is on file, and Buffer refunds monthly plans within 7 days and yearly plans within 30. Buffer Essentials also includes an API, which Later lacks.

Later answers with the drag-and-drop grid, the Link in Bio page with email capture, product tagging on Growth and an inbox that handles Instagram messages, which Buffer's inbox does not. Buffer keeps one user on Free and Essentials and puts approvals on Team. So the choice is simple. Pick Buffer if price and automation come first and you post to several networks equally. Pick Later if Instagram is the shop window and the grid, the bio page and the messages all matter. Our [Buffer review](/articles/buffer-review) covers its side in full.

> 💡 **Turn the bio link into a list:** Add the email sign-up form to your Link in Bio page and connect Mailchimp. It works on every plan and turns Instagram traffic into customers you can reach directly.

## FAQ

**Which Later plan is best for a small business?**

Starter fits one brand with one person posting about once a day per network. Growth fits two locations or brands, a second user, Instagram product tagging (eligible Instagram Shops only) or the Social Inbox (beta).

**How many posts does Later Starter allow?**

30 posts per profile a month. Drafts and Instagram Stories count toward the limit, and counts reset on the first of the month at midnight UTC.

**Can Later post to Google Business Profile?**

No. Google Business Profile is not supported, and neither are X, Zapier or HubSpot.

**Does Later give refunds?**

Plans are non-refundable, with exceptions handled case by case that may carry early termination fees. Purchases made in the iOS app follow Apple's refund policy.

**Can I reply to customer messages in Later?**

Yes, on Growth and Scale, through Social Inbox, a beta feature on desktop that needs the Instagram profile linked to a Facebook Page. It covers Instagram and Facebook messages and Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments, but not TikTok messages, and Instagram messages only within seven days.

**Does Later have phone support?**

No. Paid plans get support through email and chatbot-opened tickets, with replies that typically take one to two business days. Free gets the help center and a chatbot.

## The bottom line

Later suits a small business that sells through Instagram and TikTok and cares how its feed looks. Start on Starter at $25 a month billed monthly, or $18.75 billed yearly, if one person posts for one brand about once a day per network. Move to Growth for a second location, a helper, product tagging for an eligible Instagram Shop or the Social Inbox. Skip it if you rely on Google Business Profile or Zapier, or still post to X, which Later dropped in 2025. Whatever you pick, put the trial's end date in your calendar before entering the card.
