The LiveChat mobile app still exists, under a new name. LiveChat, now sold to new customers as Text plans, lists its iPhone, iPad and Android app as **Text - Live Chat for Business**, published by Text, Inc., next to desktop apps for macOS and Windows and a web app that runs in the browser. Every app is free to download. None of them works alone. New users need a Text account on the 14-day trial or a paid plan, and the cheapest paid path is Essential at $19 per user per month billed annually, or $25 per user per month billed monthly. Existing LiveChat customers keep using the renamed phone app with their LiveChat plan, while the Mac and Windows apps are for Text accounts only.

**5** — Text apps on one account: iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and the web app.

- **14 days** — Text trial, no credit card, no automatic charge
- **iPhone 14+** — Needed for the sales Live Activity (ecommerce accounts)
- **64 / 32-bit** — Windows installers; ARM PCs not covered

## Which Text app does which job

| App | Where it comes from | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone and iPad | App Store, listed as Text - Live Chat for Business | Chats and tickets, push alerts, supervision, live carts |
| Android | Google Play, the same app, no separate APK | Chats and tickets, push alerts, supervision, live carts |
| macOS | Universal, Apple Silicon or Intel installer | All-day answering with native notifications |
| Windows | 64-bit or 32-bit installer; ARM not covered | All-day answering with native notifications |
| Web app | Any browser, no install | Configuration, widget, channels, AI Agent, reports |

The split matters more than the platform list. Text says its mobile app is built to complement the web app, not to replace it, and its iPhone page describes the same division: you configure the workspace in the browser and use the phone to follow conversations and reply. The pricing matrix lists the web app and the desktop app for macOS and Windows on every Text plan [1]. Every user who logs in to answer chats or tickets needs a seat, so plan the purchase around people rather than devices.

> ⚠ **One active session per login:** Text's Terms allow one active session at a time per login unless Text authorizes more, so confirm a desktop-plus-phone setup with support.

## If you already use the LiveChat mobile app

Existing LiveChat customers who open the App Store or Google Play will find their familiar app renamed. The listing now reads Text - Live Chat for Business, and the rename keeps the existing account, conversations and workflows in the same app [2]. What the update does not do matters just as much. **Updating the app does not add Text features**, such as the AI Agent, to a LiveChat plan, and it does not move the subscription to a different product. Existing LiveChat customers keep their plan and price; our [LiveChat pricing guide](/articles/livechat-pricing) explains what they keep.

The desktop downloads follow a different rule. The Mac and Windows installers on livechat.com are for Text accounts only, while LiveChat customers log in to LiveChat to get their own desktop app. Downloading Text does not transfer a LiveChat plan or its conversation history either. Text is a separate workspace and account, so a LiveChat team curious about Text can run a Text trial side by side without touching its live setup. Moving over for good is a separate account migration. It is not an app update.

## Setting up: browser first, phone second

The order of work follows from what the phone cannot do. Text says the web widget, the AI Agent, an ecommerce store and your teammates each have to be set up separately before the mobile app has anything to show [3]. Start the 14-day trial on Essential or Growth from livechat.com. It needs no credit card and never charges you automatically, and the workspace, history and settings carry over once you choose a plan and billing period. Then work through these steps in order:

1. Create the Text account in a browser and pick Essential or Growth for the trial.
2. Install the widget from the web app with the embed code, Shopify, WordPress, Webflow or Google Tag Manager; our [website widget guide](/articles/livechat-website-widget) covers each path.
3. Connect your store in the web app if you sell online, because live carts and order history depend on that connection.
4. Configure the AI Agent and invite teammates; invite links are single use and expire after 7 days.
5. Download the phone app by scanning the QR code Text provides, then sign in with the same account.
6. Turn on two-factor authentication: every Text plan supports an authenticator app, plus login with Google, Apple or Microsoft.

Budget the seats before the trial ends. There is no minimum team size, and each added person costs the same per-user rate. At the Essential rate, three people come to $57 a month billed annually or $75 billed monthly, by our arithmetic. The annual figure is paid upfront for 12 months, so it only pays off if you keep the plan ten months or more. Every other billing rule, from downgrades to cancellation, sits in the pricing guide linked above.

> 💡 **Configure in the browser first:** Set up the widget, AI Agent and teammates in the web app before handing out phones; the mobile app only shows what the web app feeds it.

## What you can do from the phone

On iPhone, iPad and Android the app covers the work that cannot wait. You can answer chats and tickets, receive push notifications, and watch active chats, visitors online and team activity from a live dashboard. Supervisors get more than an inbox. Text says the app lets you supervise teammates and AI Agents from the phone, and its Android page adds checking a ticket's status and reassigning it between teams. Push alerts cover new chats, stuck carts and sales, and Text pitches instant contact with fresh leads as a core use.

Notifications are the main reason to install it. On iOS, push alerts for new conversations arrive even when the app is closed, but Focus modes can silence or delay them, so add the app to any Focus you use during working hours. The App Store lists the app for both iPhone and iPad, and the minimum iOS version appears only in that listing. Check it before handing older devices to staff. On Android, install the Google Play listing published by Text, Inc.; no sideloaded file is needed.

Stores get the most out of the phone. With a supported ecommerce connection set up in the web app, the app shows a shopper's live cart with variants, quantities and cart total, plus order history and order details. When an order lands during a conversation, an Order placed event appears in the thread and its value adds to the win counter, Text's running tally of revenue from conversations. An April 2026 update brought order data into iOS chat threads. On iPhone 14 and newer, ecommerce accounts also get a sales Live Activity for checking the day's sales without opening the app.

Then the limits. Configuration of the workspace, website widget, store connection and AI Agent happens in the web app, and reports live in the browser too. Those reports cover conversation activity, customer satisfaction and sales attributed to conversations. In short, *the phone answers and the browser builds*. If a teammate's job is mostly settings, reporting or AI Agent tuning, give that person a laptop first and treat the phone as a backup for urgent replies.

## The desktop apps for Mac and Windows

For people who answer chats all day, the desktop app is the better fit. It launches with the system, installs updates in the background and shows native notifications for new chats and messages, so a waiting customer does not sit unseen in a buried browser tab. The Mac app comes as a Universal installer or as dedicated Apple Silicon and Intel builds. Windows ships as a 64-bit and a 32-bit installer. ARM-based Windows PCs are not covered, and Text tells those users to ask its support team [4].

Both installers are free, but each needs a Text account with an active trial or paid plan. The web app stays the no-install alternative and the place where configuration and reports live, so a common split is desktop for answering and a browser tab for admin work. One rule deserves a check first. Text's Terms tie each login to one designated person with one active session at a time, unless Text authorizes more. Ask support how that applies before one agent runs the desktop app and the phone together.

> ⚠ **Updating adds no Text features:** Existing LiveChat customers who update the renamed app keep their LiveChat plan; the AI Agent and other Text features are not added to it.

## Putting chat inside your own mobile app

The agent apps serve your team. They do not embed chat in an app your customers use; that job belongs to Text's developer tools, and the pricing matrix lists in-app chat as a channel on every Text plan. The Customer SDK lets a developer build a custom chat widget from scratch, and Text says it uses the same SDK for its own widget, with no private APIs. The Chat Widget JavaScript API and adapters for React, Vue and Angular cover web apps, while LiveChat's iGaming page also lists Chat SDKs for iOS and Android for in-app support.

> 💡 **Connect your store before launch:** Live carts, order history and the sales Live Activity appear only after a supported ecommerce connection is set up in the web app.

Two details shape the cost. A Custom Identity Provider matches customers to identities in your own service so chat history syncs between web and mobile, but it routes all widget traffic through the Customer Chat API, and every one of those requests counts against your API allowance. Essential includes 10,000 API calls a month and Growth includes 20,000, with extra packs of 100,000 calls at $29.50 per pack. A busy app can pass that allowance quickly. Estimate request volume during the trial; our [API guide](/articles/livechat-api) covers quotas and tokens.

## FAQ

**Can admins require two-factor login for everyone using the apps?**

Yes. Every Text plan includes two-factor authentication through an authenticator app, and Admins can require it; custom SAML single sign-on is an Enterprise feature.

**Can a clinic discuss patient details through the Text apps?**

Not today. Text lists HIPAA compliance with a BAA as coming soon on Enterprise, and its DPA says no protected health information should be sent without a separately signed BAA.

**Where can I check whether the agent apps are down?**

LiveChat's status page at status.livechat.com tracks the chat widget, agent apps and API; for August to November 2026 it showed the agent apps at 99.94% uptime.

## The bottom line

Download the app that matches the job. Agents who answer all day should run the desktop app on a Mac or on 64-bit or 32-bit Windows; owners and supervisors who need to watch chats, carts and their AI Agent away from the desk should add the iPhone or Android app; whoever configures the workspace needs the browser. None of it is free on its own. New users need a Text trial or plan, starting with Essential at $19 per user per month billed annually, and the Mac and Windows apps are for Text accounts only. Existing LiveChat customers can update the renamed app safely, knowing it adds no Text features to their plan.
