# Lovable Review 2026: What the AI App Builder Builds and Costs

> Lovable review: what the agent builds, how per-workspace credits and Lovable Cloud shape the bill, export limits, no native mobile, and who should pay.

---

Lovable is an AI app builder: you describe a website or web app in plain English, and its agent writes the code, runs it and publishes the result. What you get is a React and TypeScript web app with a built-in backend called Lovable Cloud, hosted on a lovable.app address or, on a paid plan, on your own domain. Pricing is per workspace with unlimited users and is measured in credits: Free costs $0, and Pro with 100 credits is $25 per month billed monthly or $21 per month billed annually.[1] Our verdict is short. Lovable is a quick path from an idea to a working web product for founders and small teams, provided someone watches the credit meter. Phone apps are out of scope.

**4.0 / 5** — Our Toolkit Score for Lovable: a fast route to a working web app, with a credit meter to watch.

- **$0** — Free plan: 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month
- **$25/mo** — Pro with 100 credits, billed monthly, per workspace
- **Web only** — Web apps only; PWA or your own Capacitor wrapper

## What happens after you type the first prompt

Lovable started life as GPT Engineer, founded in Stockholm in 2023 by Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin, and took its current name in December 2024. The agent writes a React, TypeScript and Tailwind frontend. Apps created from May 2026 (June 2026 on Enterprise) run on TanStack Start with server-side rendering, so search engines receive finished pages; older apps stay on React and Vite. Behind the frontend sits **Lovable Cloud**, a managed backend built on Supabase with a PostgreSQL database, user accounts, file storage, edge functions, secrets, realtime and daily backups. Your own Supabase project can replace it.

Work happens in a project chat with three modes. Chat discusses the project and reads code without changing anything. Plan inspects files, the database and logs, asks questions and writes a plan you approve. Build implements the change and verifies it. You never pick the model behind these modes. Lovable chooses, and says Claude Opus 5 is among the models it uses. Inside your own app, a built-in AI gateway adds AI features with no provider account or API keys. Lovable says more than 70 million projects had been created by September 2026.

Around the editor sit two-way Git sync with GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket Cloud on every plan, connectors and an MCP server, free security scans and cookie-free visitor analytics. Drafts let you try changes on a copy with its own chat. They share the project's database, though. Test records written there are real. Since October 2026 you can also import a ZIP export from another builder, or an existing website by URL, and Lovable rebuilds it. The first build of the first import is free once per account and workspace; later messages use credits, and imported users verify their email and set a new password.

> 💡 **Plan before you Build:** Plan mode costs 1 credit per message, plus any subagent research, and changes no code until you approve the plan, so settling the approach first avoids paying for rejected Build attempts.

## Credits decide whether Lovable feels cheap or expensive

> **About these prices:** Prices shown are what Lovable lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT. Check your current price — Lovable: https://api.colosus.site/go/lovable?to=pricing

| Plan (per workspace, unlimited users) | Price billed monthly | Price billed annually |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 |
| Pro with 100 credits | $25 per month, billed monthly | $21 per month, billed annually |
| Business with 100 credits | $50 per month, billed monthly | $42 per month, billed annually |

One balance pays for everything a workspace does: building, Cloud hosting and backend, AI features inside published apps and managed connectors. Free, Pro and Business workspaces also receive 5 build credits a day; Enterprise gets none. On Free those stop at 30 a month, while Pro and Business get them on top of plan credits with no monthly cap, except on some regional plans that cap them at 30 a month. On Pro with 100 credits, the daily grant adds up to 150 build credits in a 30-day month on top of the plan credits, by our arithmetic. The daily 5 reset at midnight UTC and never carry over.

The yearly option charges ten months' price once a year: Pro with 100 credits comes to $250 a year billed annually against $300 a year billed monthly, by our arithmetic. Monthly billing only wins if you stop within nine months. Plan mode costs 1 credit per message plus any subagent research. Build mode bills the work actually done, with no estimate up front; Lovable's examples range from 0.50 credits to turn a button gray to 1.70 credits for a landing page with images. **Failed attempts still cost credits.** Lovable's Terms say every AI action consumes credits whatever the outcome, with no refund for regenerated output.[2]

The bill keeps running after launch. Hosting, the backend and the AI features of a live app draw on the same workspace balance as building, so your visitors spend your credits. For most small or new apps, Lovable says the monthly Cloud grant covers hosting. At zero, published pages keep loading, but AI features return errors and apps on the built-in backend pause; a top-up alone does not restart them, because someone has to click Wake up.[3] Unused plan credits expire two months after issue on monthly billing, or one month after the annual period ends.

**A Business credit costs twice a Pro credit** at most menu options, so the same credit count costs twice as much on Business. For Cloud and AI usage the dollar cost matches, which is why a Business workspace shows fewer credits used for them. What the higher plan really adds is control: SSO, publishing to the whole workspace, a security center, role-based access and priority support. The full credit menu, top-ups and cancellation rules sit in our [Lovable pricing guide](/articles/lovable-pricing).

> ⚠ **Visitors spend your credits:** Hosting, the built-in backend and AI features of a live app draw on the workspace balance; at zero, published pages keep loading, but AI features fail and the backend pauses until credits are added and someone clicks Wake up.

## The backend gets you live fast and makes leaving manual

Publishing from the Publish dialog is free on every plan and works even at a zero balance. A Free project can go out publicly on lovable.app or invite-only to up to 10 people per project; publishing to the whole workspace or to groups requires Business, and a custom domain needs a paid plan. That domain matters. Lovable owns the lovable.app subdomains and can reclaim them, generally with notice, so it advises a custom domain for any app the business depends on.

You own the code. Git sync on any plan, or the zip download on paid plans, carries source, configuration and database migration files. It leaves behind database records, stored files, sign-in providers, secrets and connectors. Leaving Lovable Cloud therefore means moving the backend to managed or self-hosted Supabase by hand, then rewiring authentication, secrets and AI calls. Git sync also cannot connect an existing repository; it creates a new private one per project. Starting on your own Supabase project avoids most of this, with Supabase billing the backend. Our [Lovable Cloud guide](/articles/lovable-cloud) covers instance sizes and the move.

## Gaps to check before you commit

Lovable builds web apps only. It produces no React Native project and no package for Apple's or Google's stores. You can ask for an installable PWA, or wrap the published URL with Capacitor outside Lovable, using your own developer accounts and fees. The Lovable mobile app, released in April 2026, lets you build from your phone. It does not ship your app.

Data handling differs by plan. Since September 2026, Free and Pro content may be used to train Lovable's models unless each user opts out in Account settings; Business and Enterprise workspace data is excluded by default.[4] Lovable lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022 and AIUC-1, signs no Business Associate Agreements, and apps you build do not inherit its certifications. In its account of the April 2026 incident, Lovable says public projects' chat history and source code could potentially be reached by any Lovable user with a project link between February and April 2026. It says private projects and Lovable Cloud were never affected. Public projects can no longer be created.

There is no free trial of Pro or Business. Subscription fees and credits are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise. Support follows the plan: community channels on Free, email on Pro, priority handling on Business. The support team aims for a first reply within 24 hours, mainly on weekdays; that reply usually comes from a support AI within minutes, and a human follows up by email if you ask. Phone and live chat are not offered. Canceling is self-serve.

> 💡 **Opt out of training early:** On Free and Pro, each user can opt out of model training in Account settings at no cost; the opt-out applies only from that point forward.

## How our score reads Lovable, and the complaints behind it

**Our scorecard — 4.0/5**
- Capability & depth: 4.3/5 — Lovable covers the whole job of an AI app builder in one workspace: from a plain-language prompt its agent writes and runs a React, TypeScript and Tailwind app (new apps from May 2026, June 2026 on Enterprise, on TanStack Start with server-side rendering), adds a built-in backend, Lovable Cloud (a managed PostgreSQL database, user accounts, file storage, edge functions, secrets, realtime, scheduled jobs and daily backups, built on Supabase) or connects your own Supabase project, and hosts the result, so an app can be published free on a lovable.app address with HTTPS on every plan, including Free, publicly or invite-only, or on a custom domain from Pro. Around the builder sit drafts with their own chat, version history and bookmarks, remix and templates, design systems (Pro) and design templates (Business), import of a ZIP from other builders or of an existing website by URL (from October 2026, first import free), Figma import, a free SEO and AI search review, built-in analytics without cookies, growth tools for ads run from your own Google Ads and Meta accounts, free Quick and Deep security scans, built-in payments through Stripe or Paddle (Pro) and Shopify storefronts. The code is yours: two-way Git sync with GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket Cloud works on every plan including Free, and the zip download on paid plans; an app can run outside Lovable once it is on its own hosting and no longer calls Lovable services. Held back by no native mobile output (web apps and PWAs only; App Store or Google Play means wrapping the published URL with Capacitor outside Lovable), by exports that carry code and migration files but not database records, stored files, auth settings, secrets or connectors (the Cloud backend moves only to Supabase, by hand), by no choice of framework or database, by Git sync creating a new repository rather than connecting an existing one, and by Cloud regions being locked once a project's backend is enabled.
- AI: 4.2/5 — AI is the product itself: the project chat has Chat mode (discuss, read code, data and connected tools without changing code), Plan mode (inspects files, database and logs, asks questions and writes an editable plan you approve, 1 credit per message plus any subagent research) and Build mode (implements and verifies, billed on the work done, a single message running up to 10 hours); a /goal run pursues one goal for up to 10 hours without asking questions, and Chats is a workspace-level agent that can build across several projects. Instructions at workspace and project level, AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md files, Memory on all plans (October 2026), Dreaming on paid plans and reusable Skills shape how the agent works, and read-only subagents research for the agent, their work charged like other agent usage. Lovable says it routes stuck or longer, more complex sessions to Fable 5.1 (September 2026). Inside the apps, Lovable AI adds chat, images, video, music, search and voice with no provider account or keys, with a choice of models for those features, and agent integrations expose a published app's actions to ChatGPT or Claude. Credit check-ins (beta) pause a long message at 20 credits by default. Held back by no model choice for Build, Plan or Chat (Lovable picks), no upfront cost estimate for a Build message, credits spent on failed or unwanted output that the Terms say are not refunded and that reverting does not return, and Claude models for in-app AI only in apps created from May 2026 (June 2026 on Enterprise).
- Integrations: 4.2/5 — Lovable integrates at three levels: app and chat connectors on one shared account used while building and by the published app (Stripe, Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, HubSpot, Resend and others), chat connectors and custom MCP servers that work only in the chat, and app user connectors where each end user links their own Google, Microsoft, GitHub, GitLab, Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot, Linear, Notion, Databricks, Snowflake, Power BI or Workday account; any REST API can be wired directly or as a custom connector, and credentials stay in Lovable's connector gateway, not in the app. Most of this starts on Free: chat connectors, custom MCP servers, custom connectors, two-way Git sync with GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket Cloud, your own Stripe account, Supabase, Slack and the Lovable MCP server (mcp.lovable.dev) that lets ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other OAuth clients create projects and send build messages. Built-in payments through Stripe or Paddle start on Pro and Lovable adds no fee; Shopify storefronts can use a new development store or an existing store; Figma, n8n (paid n8n Cloud or self-hosted), Telegram (Free and Pro) and a ChatGPT app round it out, and Lovable is listed on Google Cloud Marketplace and Microsoft Marketplace. Held back by the Lovable API and workspace API keys needing Business, connectors managed by Lovable (Perplexity, Firecrawl, Parallel, LlamaParse) billing usage in workspace credits, chat connectors never becoming part of the published app, no native PayPal or other payment providers, Git sync not importing an existing repository, and GitHub Enterprise Server only on Enterprise.
- Ease of use: 3.8/5 — The core promise is easy to start: describe the app, watch it build in the preview, and publish from the Publish dialog at no credit cost, even at a zero balance, to a lovable.app address with HTTPS and global hosting included; a Quick security scan runs when the dialog opens. Plan mode lets a non-coder review a plan before anything changes, drafts let you try changes on a copy, the preview toolbar includes 100 free inline text edits per account plus 2,000 per workspace per 24 hours, versions can be restored, and you can build from the web, a desktop app, the Lovable mobile app (launched on iOS and Android in April 2026, for building, not publishing), Slack or Telegram. One credit balance has paid for building, hosting and in-app AI since June 2026. Held back by what an owner has to manage: several grants with their own reset rules (5 build credits a day that do not roll over, capped at 30 a month on Free, and monthly Cloud, AI and connector grants), plan credits that expire on a window that depends on the billing term, no upfront cost for a Build message, a backend that pauses at zero credits and must be woken by hand even after a top-up, live apps whose visitors spend the owner's credits, per-member limits that cap build credits only, database access rules that Lovable sets automatically but tells you to review, and Cloud regions that cannot be changed later.
- Value for money: 3.4/5 — Lovable is priced per workspace, not per seat: Pro and Business cards list unlimited users and Free unlimited collaborators. A real Free plan ($0, no credit card) gives 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month plus 20 Cloud, 4 AI and 1 connector credit a month, Lovable Cloud, Git sync and public or invite-only publishing on up to 5 lovable.app domains. Pro with 100 credits costs $25 per month per workspace billed monthly or $21 per month billed annually ($250 a year, by our arithmetic), and Business with 100 credits $50 per month billed monthly or $42 per month billed annually ($500 a year); each has a menu of credit options up to 10,000 credits a month (Pro with 10,000 credits $2,250 per month billed monthly), annual billing is 10 times the monthly price (two months free) and credits are still issued monthly. Paid plans keep the 5 daily build credits on top of plan credits, unused plan credits roll over (2 months after issue on monthly billing, until 1 month after the annual period on annual billing), and top-ups cost $15 per 50 credits on Pro and $30 per 50 credits on Business, valid 12 months. Custom domains, code editing, built-in payments and app emails start on Pro, and verified students get 50% off Pro with 100 credits billed monthly ($12.50 a month for up to 12 months). Held back by a Business credit costing twice a Pro credit on most options (for Cloud and AI usage the dollar cost is the same), credits charged for failed or unwanted output, hosting, the backend and in-app AI of a live app drawing on the same balance as building, top-ups costing more per credit than any plan option, Enterprise having no free grants, rollovers or top-ups, fees and credits being non-refundable except where the law requires, and Free and Pro content being usable for AI training from September 2026 unless the user opts out (the opt-out is free on any plan; Business and Enterprise are excluded by default).
- Support & reliability: 3.3/5 — Support is tiered and documented: community support on Free (docs, docs assistant, status page, Discord), email support on Pro, priority support on Business, and a dedicated account team with onboarding, a named CSM and a custom SLA on Enterprise. Lovable's support policy says the team responds within 24 hours, mainly on weekdays, as time to a first reply, with a support AI answering first within a couple of minutes and a human following up by email on request; the Enterprise Product Terms set response targets by severity. On security and reliability, Lovable lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, AIUC-1 and GDPR, keeps one database backup a day for about 14 days on Lovable Cloud, encrypts data at rest and in transit, offers 2FA on all plans, and lets deleted projects and workspaces be restored for 60 days. Held back by no support form on Free, no phone or live-chat support, no published uptime SLA for self-serve plans, no point-in-time restore, support that does not debug your project code or implement third-party integrations, Lovable not being HIPAA-compliant and signing no BAAs, and incidents as Lovable describes them: in April 2026 it said chat history and source code of public projects could potentially be accessed by any Lovable user with a project link between February and April 2026 (Lovable says private projects and Lovable Cloud were never impacted), and in January 2025 about 19 hours of partial or full downtime after GitHub disabled Lovable's GitHub app.
- User sentiment: 4.3/5 — Mean of each platform's displayed rating with at least 30 reviews, weighted by review count (read November 2026): Trustpilot 4.2 from 1,926 reviews, Product Hunt 4.7 from 212 reviews and G2 4.6 (its review count differs between indexed snapshots, every one above 30) give about 4.3, so the axis rests mostly on Trustpilot. Trustpilot's negative reviews cluster around credits, support and price; that is a map of complaints, not a measure of all users. Capterra (6 reviews) is below the threshold and not counted. No ad-hoc adjustment is applied. Lovable's own usage and revenue figures are vendor material, not ratings.
- Docs & learning resources: 4.0/5 — docs.lovable.dev is deep and specific: help pages on plans and credits (what each mode costs, grants, rollovers, top-ups, what happens at zero), every plan gate, publishing and audiences, custom domains, SEO and AEO, Lovable Cloud (regions, instance sizes, backups, database export, pausing), Lovable AI, payments, Shopify, each connector, Git sync, hosting elsewhere and moving the backend to Supabase, security scans, data training and opt-out, workspace administration and a support policy with response times; an API reference and an MCP server page; a glossary; a FAQ; and a product changelog dated entry by entry. The pricing page adds example prompt costs and a FAQ that explains why Business credits cost more. Held back by most help pages being undated and by product, segment, blog and guide pages that were not updated and contradict the pricing page or newer docs (an older starting price on the prototypes page, Free users starting public projects, scheduled deep scans on Business on the security page, older Cloud region names, an older help answer that importing existing code is not possible, an older example prompt cost in the credits docs), and by Lovable's comparison guides being a competitor's claims, which leaves the pricing page, the Terms and the dated changelog as the reliable sources.

The scorecard weighs capability, the AI agent, integrations, ease of use, value for money under the credit model, support and docs, with user sentiment as one input rather than the verdict. Lovable lands at 4.0/5: strong on speed to a working web app and on code ownership, held back by spending that is hard to forecast and a backend that does not travel easily.

**What users rate it, by platform**

| Platform | Rating | Reviews | As of |
|---|---|---|---|

_Rendered from our current record; these are other platforms' user scores, separate from our own Toolkit Score._

Ratings across the review platforms lean positive. Negative Trustpilot reviews are a map of friction, not a trend. They cluster on credits running out, support and price, with bug-fix loops, billing and cancellation behind. Those themes match the documented rules. Charged failures explain why fix loops hurt, and an AI-first support desk with weekday replies explains the support complaints.

## Who should pay for Lovable, and who should not

Lovable fits founders, product managers and small teams who need a web app with logins, a database and payments quickly. Built-in Stripe or Paddle payments arrive with Pro, and Lovable adds no fee of its own. Pro with 100 credits is the realistic entry point, since it unlocks custom domains, badge removal, code editing and email support. Business earns its higher credit price when a company needs SSO, workspace-only publishing and training exclusion without anyone remembering to opt out. Teams planning a later engineering hand-off gain most, because the Git repository is standard code.

Look elsewhere if you need a store-listed phone app, a home for health data, a framework such as Next.js, or a self-hosted editor. Busy apps on the built-in backend deserve a pilot month first. Base44, Replit, Softr, [Bolt.new](/articles/bolt-new-review) and [Bubble](/articles/bubble-review) are the other AI app builders in our catalog, and their credits or tokens are different units, so compare plan prices on the same billing term in our [Base44 vs Lovable comparison](/articles/base44-vs-lovable).

## FAQ

**Does Lovable charge per user?**

No. Pro, Business and Enterprise are priced per workspace with unlimited users, but each workspace needs its own subscription, and external collaborators spend the project owner's credits.

**What happens to my credits if I cancel Lovable?**

Remaining credits stay usable until the end of the billing period; then unexpired plan credits are frozen and come back if you re-subscribe before they expire. Top-up and bonus credits stay usable on Free.

**Is there a limit on how many projects I can build?**

Lovable sets no project limit on any plan. Free includes 5 lovable.app domains, while Pro and higher include unlimited lovable.app domains.

**Can I set a spending cap for team members?**

On Pro and higher, owners and admins can set monthly per-member credit limits, but those count build credits only; hosting and AI usage of a live app belong to the project and are controlled with usage limits and alerts.

## The bottom line

Lovable turns a plain-English description into a hosted React web app with a real database, user accounts and payments in little time, and the code stays yours through Git sync. Our score credits that speed and that ownership. The cost of convenience is one credit balance that pays for failed attempts and for your visitors' activity, plus a backend you migrate by hand if you leave. Start on Free, move to Pro when you need a custom domain or built-in payments, set per-member limits on build credits, and opt out of training below Business.
