**1,500** — Keywords tracked daily on Agency, the only Mangools plan with daily updates.

- **Weekly** — updates on Basic and Premium
- **200 / 700 / 1,500** — tracked keywords by plan
- **65,000+** — tracking locations, down to city and DMA

## What SERPWatcher does, and what you need to start

SERPWatcher is the rank tracker inside Mangools. It checks where a site ranks in Google for the keywords you choose, by location and by device, and it rolls that progress into a single number called the Performance Index. It launched in July 2017 and is one of the five tools in every Mangools plan, so you never buy it on its own. Because it shares data with KWFinder and SERPChecker, keywords and investigations move freely between the three. **That integration is its real edge.** This tutorial walks through setup, every report and the limits that matter, built from Mangools' own pages as of October 12, 2026.

Getting access is easy. New accounts get Free+, which tracks 50 keywords daily for ten days without a card. The guide still mentions a 10-keyword trial, but expect 50. After that, paid plans start at US$49 a month: Basic tracks 200 keywords, Premium 700 and Agency 1,500 [1]. The catch is how often the numbers refresh. Mangools sums it up as "Rank tracking with weekly updates (daily on the Agency plan)" [4], so Basic and Premium update once a week, and only Agency, at US$129 a month, updates daily.

For most blogs, weekly data is fine. For client reporting, it often is not. Over a month, Basic and Premium produce about four ranking points per keyword while Agency produces about thirty, so when a client asks why a page dropped on a Tuesday, only Agency's daily data can answer. Decide which side of that line you sit on before you choose a plan, because nearly everything else in this guide works the same way on all three.

## Plan your trackings before you add a keyword

### One tracking per domain, location and device

To start, click Add new tracking, enter the domain, and choose a location and a device [245]. Locations go down to city and DMA level, with more than 65,000 options that include states, counties, cities and DMA regions. Each tracking covers one domain, one location and one device, so the tracking is the unit you plan around. Local businesses should track their own city. National results mislead them. A dental practice with two offices that wants mobile and desktop results in both cities needs four trackings, and 50 keywords in each already uses all 200 tracked keywords on Basic. Plan the trackings first.

### Mobile first, because devices double the count

Each tracking is either desktop or mobile. The dashboard switches between them, and if you track only one, SERPWatcher offers to clone it. The FAQ is blunt: "Each tracking is separate." [5] Tracking both devices therefore doubles the count, and a site with 400 keywords on both needs 800. For most content sites the mobile results are the ones that matter, so tracking 200 keywords on mobile only keeps Basic's whole allowance for one device rather than splitting it into 100 on each. The allowance itself is flexible: you can split the plan's keywords across an unlimited number of domains, and Premium's 700 could cover seven sites with 100 each. Freelancers benefit. Large sites need more.

> ⚠ **Devices count separately:** Mobile and desktop are separate trackings, so tracking both doubles the keyword count. A site with 400 keywords on both devices needs 800.

## Add your keywords, then tag them

Keywords can come in several ways. You can drag in a TXT or CSV file, import a KWFinder list, paste them, type them, or pull the keywords a site already ranks for from KWFinder's search by domain. Duplicates are highlighted in yellow, so the list stays clean. Importing from KWFinder is the fastest route, and pulling a site's existing rankings is the quickest way to start, but on Basic that report shows only 25 rows, so most sites will add the rest by list or file. SERPWatcher can also import keywords from Google Search Console, which finds the keywords you already rank for, ready to track. It beats guessing. Connect it at setup.

Tags group keywords by topic, page or intent, and every metric can be filtered by tag. You can create, add, remove, rename and delete tags at any time from the dashboard, and each one shows in color next to its keyword. Bloggers tend to tag by post, shops by category and agencies by service. **Tag before you have hundreds of keywords**, because retagging later is slow. Five to ten tags are enough, and a small palette keeps the colors useful when you scan a long table.

> 💡 **Tag keywords at setup:** Tags unlock a subset Performance Index for each section of a site. Retagging hundreds of keywords later is slow.

## Find your way around the dashboard

### Trackings, the dashboard and the timeframe

The Trackings page lists every domain, how many keywords each tracks and a Performance Index chart. You can clone, delete and search trackings, and reorder them by drag and drop; cloning reuses settings and saves setup time. Inside a tracking, the dashboard puts keyword rankings on the left and aggregate metrics on the right, all on one screen. A timeframe picker in the top right updates every number, so set it first. Every metric depends on it. Comparing the last three months with the previous three on weekly data gives about 13 points per period for each keyword, which is enough to separate a real trend from a single bad week.

### The rankings table and keyword detail

The table shows each keyword with its tags, current rank, rank change, average and best rank, search volume and estimated visits, and a search box filters long lists. Sort by change to find the movers, then open them. Clicking a keyword opens its position history, the ranking URL with estimated visits, a SERP preview you can download as an image, search volume history and links to LinkMiner, SiteProfiler, KWFinder and SERPChecker. It is a full investigation in one panel. A drop caused by a competitor's new backlinks can be checked in two clicks, without leaving the Mangools tools or spending a keyword lookup in KWFinder.
## The metrics that sum up progress

### Performance Index, overall and by tag

The Performance Index tracks ranking performance from positions weighted by search volume, on a scale from 0 to 100, and it takes every position change into account. Higher is better. Filter by tag and a subset Performance Index appears next to the overall one; a subset can score higher than the whole when those keywords perform better. Use subsets for each section of a site, because they show where growth comes from. An older feature page calls the key metric the Dominance Index, an organic traffic share based on positions and search volumes. Same idea, renamed. The 2025 guide's name, Performance Index, is the current one.

### Estimated visits, gainers and losers

Estimated visits combine positions, estimated click-through rates and search volumes. They are modeled, not measured, so compare them over time and use Search Console for real clicks. The guide also lists top gainers and losers, plus keyword position flow and distribution, among SERPWatcher's metrics. Together they show at a glance which keywords moved most in the chosen timeframe. Start every review there. Then drill down into the keywords that matter, using the detail panel described above, and leave the small movements alone until they repeat for several weeks.

### Visual metrics, snippets and the map pack

Since April 2023, SERPWatcher also tracks how many pixels from the top a result appears and how much space it takes, because a first position can still sit below the fold. The new parsing caused slight position changes at launch. **Position is not visibility.** A page in first position can sit hundreds of pixels down the screen under an AI Overview, ads and a map pack, so the pixel metric often explains falling clicks better than the position does. SERPWatcher also counts a featured snippet as a regular first position, unlike SERPChecker, so reports can differ by design, and map pack tracking shows local businesses whether they appear in Google's map results, which for many matters more than organic rank.

## Keep an eye on competitors

SERPWatcher lets you add competitor domains next to yours and compare ranking performance across the same keyword set, by device and location. You see which URL ranks and whether competitors hold SERP features. Each competitor domain is its own tracking, though, so it uses keywords from your plan. Budget for that. The competitor tracking page also promises weekly or monthly updates on competitor ranking changes and instant alerts for bigger shifts. React when a rival jumps ahead on your money keywords, and ignore small moves, because weekly data is noisy and one data point is not a trend.

## Share reports, alerts and data

### Links, alerts and scheduled emails

Share tracking creates a link to an interactive report in which viewers can choose the timeframe, use filters and open keyword details, with no login needed. Clients like it. Revoke links you no longer need. Reports and alerts send scheduled email reports and notify you of important rank changes. Set alerts on your top 20 money keywords only, because too many alerts get ignored, and review the rest monthly. Weekly reports suit most clients. Mangools also pitches monthly reports built on weekly updates, or daily on Agency, with scheduled monthly emails. A month smooths weekly noise, so send it on the same day each month.

### White label, Looker Studio and the API

Mangools advertises white-label SEO reports in SERPWatcher for agencies, and the guide lists white label among its sections. Check the branding options during Free+, because clients notice the details. A Looker Studio connector brings SERPWatcher rank tracking data into dashboards with organic rankings and SEO metrics, and the privacy policy says the integration does not store data from Google APIs. It carries rankings only. Agencies building a client dashboard therefore combine it with Search Console for clicks and with their own sheets for keyword research, since KWFinder data does not flow through the connector.

The API page lists SERPWatcher endpoints for creating trackings, managing tracked keywords, stats, reports, annotations and tags, and access starts with a free-account token. Pricing is not published, so ask before automating. Annotations deserve a habit of their own: mark site launches, migrations and algorithm updates, and later drops make sense. Finally, select your keywords and export them as CSV before canceling a plan. History is the most valuable part of a tracker. Keep a copy.

> 💡 **Annotate every site change:** Mark launches, migrations and algorithm updates. When a drop comes weeks later, the cause is already on the chart.

## When rankings drop

Most drops have a visible cause, and it pays to find it before rewriting anything. Start with SERP volatility. Mangools publishes a free volatility index based on 1,579,858 keywords tracked in SERPWatcher, and on October 11, 2026 it read 29.45 on desktop. If many keywords drop at once, it may be Google, not you. Next, open the keyword detail, compare the SERP preview and see whether a SERP feature pushed you down; the visual metrics help here. On weekly data, patience helps too, because one change is not yet a trend.

Data gaps are rare but not unknown. In May 2018 an outage left about 15% of SERPWatcher positions unprocessed for five days, and Mangools filled the gaps with the previous week's values. The company explained what happened publicly. It is old news. Still, if a chart shows a suspiciously flat week after an incident, treat those values as a carry-over rather than a measurement.

## Daily tracking, and how the rivals compare

Basic tracks 200 keywords, Premium 700 and Agency 1,500, and Agency is also the plan with daily updates and 5 seats. Agencies on Premium get 700 weekly keywords, which is usually too few, while Agency's 1,500 keywords cover about ten small clients. Plan the split. Daily updates are the line that matters, because on weekly data a client report can only show four points a month. Here is how the tracking side lines up against three rivals [1]:

| Tool and plan | Tracked keywords | Updates | Price a month |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Mangools Premium | 700 | Weekly | US$69 |
| Mangools Agency | 1,500 | Daily | US$129 |
| Semrush SEO plan | 500 | Daily | US$139 |
| Ahrefs Lite | 750 | Weekly | US$129 |
| SE Ranking Core | 2,000 | Daily | US$129 |

At the top end, Mangools gives more daily keywords than Semrush for less. Against Ahrefs the gap is wider: billed annually, Ahrefs Lite costs US$1,290 a year for 750 weekly keywords, against US$1,078.80 for 1,500 daily keywords on Mangools Agency, so Mangools gives twice the keywords and seven times the update frequency for less. For tracking alone, Mangools wins. **SE Ranking is the real rival.** Billed annually, SE Ranking Core costs US$1,238.40 for 2,000 daily keywords and Mangools Agency US$1,078.80 for 1,500, so the cost per daily keyword is about 62 and 72 cents a year respectively. SE Ranking gives more keywords; Mangools gives a simpler interface. Our [Mangools pricing guide](/articles/mangools-pricing) covers every plan.

## Who it fits, two setups, and the usual mistakes

### Who should use it, and who should not

Bloggers and small sites tracking a few hundred keywords weekly fit SERPWatcher well, as do agencies that can pay for daily updates on Agency. Its integration with KWFinder lists saves time. Easy to set up. Easy to share. Look elsewhere if you run an agency that needs thousands of daily keywords, or if you need daily data for less than US$129 a month, since Agency is the only Mangools plan that updates daily. To inspect one results page in depth instead, our [SERPChecker guide](/articles/mangools-serpchecker) covers the companion tool.

### A setup for one blog, and one for an agency

For a single blog, track 150 main keywords on mobile, tag them by topic, share a link with your team and check the Performance Index weekly. That fits Basic's 200 and leaves room to add 50 later. For an agency, create one tracking per client and device, tag by service, set weekly email reports and use white-label sharing. Agency's daily updates suit client dashboards. With 1,500 keywords split across about ten small clients, each one gets a meaningful set without crowding the others, as long as you decide the split before the first client asks for more.

### Mistakes that cost keywords or clarity

Four mistakes come up again and again: tracking both devices by default, skipping tags, setting the wrong location and reading one weekly change as a trend. Each costs keywords or clarity. All are easy to avoid. The location mistake hurts most, because fixing it later means a new tracking and lost history, so ten minutes spent on the setup screen saves weeks of data that cannot be recovered. Set up slowly.

## FAQ

**Does SERPWatcher track daily?**

Only on the Agency plan; Basic and Premium update weekly.

**How many keywords can SERPWatcher track?**

200 on Basic, 700 on Premium and 1,500 on Agency. You can split them across an unlimited number of domains.

**Can I try SERPWatcher for free?**

Yes. Free+ for new accounts tracks 50 keywords daily for ten days, without a card.

**Do mobile and desktop rankings count separately?**

Yes. Each tracking is either desktop or mobile, so tracking both devices doubles the number of keywords used.

**What is the Performance Index?**

A 0-100 score built from positions weighted by search volume. Filtering by tag adds a subset index next to the overall one.

**How does SERPWatcher treat featured snippets?**

It counts a featured snippet as a regular first position, unlike SERPChecker, so reports can differ between the two tools.

## The bottom line

SERPWatcher is a clear, shareable rank tracker with useful extras such as the Performance Index and visual metrics. Weekly updates below Agency are its limit. Start on Free+, track mobile first, tag from day one, and buy Agency only if you need daily data. If clients will ask what happened on a specific day, budget for Agency from the start; if you report monthly, Basic or Premium will do the job.
