Pick Replit if you want native iPhone apps, a standard PostgreSQL backend and a bill that scales in dollars of usage. Pick Base44 if you prefer a fixed monthly allotment of AI messages and Android store files from its Builder plan. Replit Core costs $20 per month billed monthly or $18 per month billed annually, per account, and includes $20 of usage credits each month for Agent, hosting and databases [1]. Base44 Starter costs $20 per month billed monthly or $16 per month billed annually, per workspace, with 100 message credits and 2,000 integration credits a month [2]. Replit has no time-limited trial of Core or Pro, and Base44 offers no free trial of a paid plan.

**$20 per month** — Entry paid plan billed monthly on both: Replit Core (with $20 of usage credits) and Base44 Starter

- **iOS only** — Replit store publishing; Google Play not supported yet
- **IPA + AAB** — Base44 store files, Builder plan or higher
- **Pro** — Lowest Replit plan with an AI-training opt-out

## Dollars of usage against a count of messages

The two meters cannot be converted into each other. A Replit credit is one dollar of usage. Agent spends those dollars under Effort-Based Pricing, so a long, complex request costs more than a small fix, and Replit publishes no fixed price per prompt. The same balance pays for publishing, network transfer, database storage and AI Integrations. Base44 splits its meter in two: message credits cover building with its AI, while integration credits cover the built-in services a live app calls, such as email, LLM calls, image generation, file uploads and agents.

The edge of the allowance matters more than the sticker. **Usage beyond Replit's credits is billed pay-as-you-go** unless you set a budget, and a met budget temporarily suspends every usage-based service, hosting and databases included [3]. Core and Pro can also buy one-time credit packs, from $100 for $100 of credits up to $950 for $1,000 of credits, each expiring six months after purchase. Only Pro rolls unused monthly credits over, for two months. Base44 sells no top-ups or credit packs, and its unused credits do not roll over, except when a monthly plan moves up to a higher monthly plan.

Replit adds a third layer called Free Mode: no-cost Agent work inside Starter, Core and Pro, resetting every five hours under a weekly limit on the paid plans. Core's card lists up to 30 hours of chat and up to 60 projects on Free Mode. When a request needs a paid mode, Replit asks before it spends credits. Free Mode is not a free plan. The effect on the bill is uneven: chat and small edits can cost little, while long autonomous builds can cost a lot.

> 💡 **Set a Replit budget first:** Add a usage alert and a budget before long Agent builds on Replit. A met budget also suspends hosting and databases, so set it above what your live app needs.

## Monthly prices on the same footing

> **About these prices:** Prices shown are what Replit lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT. Check your current price — Replit: https://api.colosus.site/go/replit?to=pricing

| | Replit (per account) | Base44 (per workspace) |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | Starter, $0 | Free, $0 |
| Entry plan, billed monthly | Core, $20 per month | Starter, $20 per month |
| Entry plan, billed annually | Core, $18 per month | Starter, $16 per month |
| Second step, billed monthly | Pro with $100 of credits, $100 per month | Builder, $50 per month |
| Second step, billed annually | Pro with $100 of credits, $90 per month | Builder, $40 per month |
| Higher options, billed monthly | Pro with $250 to $2,500 of credits, $225 to $2,050 per month | Pro $100 per month, Elite $200 per month |
| Higher options, billed annually | Pro with $250 to $2,500 of credits, $215 to $2,000 per month | Pro $80 per month, Elite $160 per month |
| Top tier | Enterprise, custom | Enterprise, custom |

Read each column on its own terms. One side buys dollars of metered usage that also pay the hosting bill; the other buys counts of build messages and service calls. Matching plans by name misleads, since a plan called Pro on one side bears no relation to the plan called Pro on the other. The fair test is the cheapest plan that covers what a paid app needs first: payments, a custom domain and code kept in a repository.

For that app, Replit Core is enough. Stripe payments, connectors, custom domains and badge removal all start on Core, and the Git pane in the code workspace syncs with GitHub both ways. On Base44, a custom domain and badge removal start on Starter, but payments, connectors, backend functions, GitHub two-way sync and ZIP export start on Builder, which costs $50 per month billed monthly or $40 per month billed annually. **The like-for-like pair is Replit Core against Base44 Builder.**

Replit's own next step is steeper. Pro starts at $100 per month, billed monthly, which by our arithmetic is $80 a month more than Core for $80 more monthly credits. It adds up to 15 builders with pooled credits and, Replit says, no per-user fees, the option of a 28-day database restore window, priority support and the AI-training opt-out. Base44 says annual billing saves 20%. Replit promises up to 10% off, and only Core and Pro with $100 of credits get the full 10%. Base44's full menu sits in our [Base44 pricing guide](/articles/base44-pricing), and every Replit Pro option is in our [Replit pricing guide](/articles/replit-pricing).

## What each free tier lets you publish

Replit's Starter plan is free with no time limit, though the pricing page does not list it. It gives daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap, with no numbers published, plus Free Mode, Replit Design and the code workspace. Building is Lite build only; Full build, Plan Mode, connectors and AI Integrations need Core. You can publish one app, and its link goes down after 30 days unless you publish again. It carries a Made with Replit badge and caps the production database at 1 GiB. Private and password-protected publishing reached Starter in May 2026.

Base44's Free plan is looser on publishing and tighter on building. It gives 25 message credits a month, at most 5 a day, plus 100 integration credits and room for up to 5 apps on a base44.app address with an Edit with Base44 badge. It has no custom domain, private apps, code editing, backend functions, connectors or GitHub. For a quick public prototype, that is the easier tier. For seeing the code, or previewing a phone app in Expo Go, Replit's free tier goes further.

## After launch: visitors, data and backups

Traffic on a live Replit app is billed to its owner. Compute, requests, outbound transfer, the production database, App Storage and AI Integrations come out of the owner's monthly credits first, then pay-as-you-go. Autoscale, the default deployment, charges $0.60 per million compute units and $0.40 per million requests; a shared Reserved VM costs $15 per month. Production database compute is $0.16 per compute hour, and storage is $0.35 per GiB per month. The full rate card is in our [Replit pricing guide](/articles/replit-pricing).

Base44 hosts apps on base44.app through Cloudflare's CDN, and its end users spend the owner's integration credits, so a busy app eats the allotment a builder needs for services. The data layer differs in kind. Base44 gives each app a NoSQL database compatible with MongoDB, sized from 200 MB on Free to 25 GB on Elite for apps created from October 2026. Replit gives each app PostgreSQL, split since July 2025 into a free development database and a production database that Agent can only read.

That split is Replit's main safety argument. Rolling back code never restores production data; a point-in-time restore does, with a 7-day window by default on any plan and up to 28 days on Pro. Base44 lists backup and restore at 7 days on Elite and 28 days on Business and Enterprise. **A 28-day window on Replit needs Pro**, a plan with published prices; on Base44 it needs Business or Enterprise, and neither shows a price.

> ⚠ **Code rollback is not a data restore:** Rolling back Replit code never restores the production database; that needs a point-in-time restore, 7 days by default or up to 28 days on Pro.

## Phones, code exits and who trains on your prompts

Mobile is the sharpest split. Replit Agent builds native apps with Expo and React Native, previewed free in Expo Go; simulator previews need Core. Replit builds the iOS app in the cloud and submits it to App Store Connect through your own Apple Developer Program membership, no Mac required. Publishing to Google Play is not supported yet [4]. Base44 goes the other way. From Builder up it wraps your published web app in a web view and hands you an IPA file for Apple and an AAB file for Android, submitted under your own developer accounts, with no in-app purchases for digital goods. Our [Replit mobile apps guide](/articles/replit-mobile-apps) covers the iOS steps.

Leaving is easier on one side. Replit code and Git history leave through GitHub sync or a ZIP download, and the production database is standard PostgreSQL; Replit-managed pieces such as Replit Auth accounts, connectors, AI Integrations, App Storage and secrets must be replaced elsewhere. Base44's exported code still calls Base44's backend through its SDK, and Base44 does not support self-hosting that backend. Data, secrets, app users and version history stay out of its code export.

Training rules split by plan. Replit may use prompts and generated content to improve its models; Pro can opt out, and Enterprise content is handled under the Enterprise agreement. Base44 excludes only Enterprise workspaces, with no opt-out setting elsewhere. Single sign-on sits high on both ladders: Replit keeps SSO, SCIM and audit logs on Enterprise, while Base44 puts SSO in Business or Enterprise (and Elite for workspaces created before October 2026) and keeps SCIM and audit logs on Enterprise.

## Support, refunds and the complaint pattern

Replit Core gets AI-powered support, with billing questions escalated to people, and Pro adds prioritized access to a support engineer; neither covers debugging the code Agent wrote. Base44 answers tickets with an AI assistant first and a human after, publishes no response times and keeps premium support for Elite. Refunds differ sharply. Replit's Terms allow full refunds of Starter and Core subscription payments within 30 days of purchase, Pro refunds go case by case through Support, and usage, Agent and domain charges are non-refundable. Base44 plans are non-refundable under its Terms, though its help center says Customer Care may approve a prorated refund for a mistaken purchase.

**What users rate it, by platform**

| Platform | Rating | Reviews | As of |

Replit's reviews are lopsided. Complaints on Trustpilot cluster around costs and credits, Agent loops, support and locked accounts. Read that as a map of where things go wrong, not a measure of how often they do. B2B review sites read far kinder. Replit itself warns that Agent's behavior is probabilistic and may make mistakes, so treat the scores as one input rather than a verdict on either builder.

> 💡 **Compare the plans your app needs:** If your app takes payments or needs GitHub sync, weigh Replit Core against Base44 Builder, because Base44 gates those features at Builder.

## FAQ

**Can I move a Base44 app to Replit?**

Yes. Replit imports Base44 projects through a GitHub export, bringing code, design, backend logic and database schema, but not data records, secrets, environment variables or API keys, which you add again in Replit.

**How do the two price a team?**

Replit prices per account: Core lets you invite up to 5 builders and Pro up to 15 with pooled credits and, Replit says, no per-user fees, and collaborators spend the owner's credits. Base44 prices per workspace, not per user.

**Do Replit and Base44 offer student discounts?**

Base44 gives 50% off Starter or Builder on a first paid personal subscription claimed while on Free, for up to 12 months on monthly billing or the first year on annual. Replit runs an education program whose amounts and eligibility are kept on its education page and may change, so check there before choosing.

**What startup programs do they run?**

Startups backed by one of Replit's Select Partners can get $25K in Replit credits valid for 6 months, and Partner Network startups get one year of Replit Pro on a new account (existing users get the equivalent in credits). Base44 offers Pro free for one year to partner-backed founders and Builder free for one year on approval.

## The bottom line

Choose by what you ship and how you want to pay. Replit fits builders who want native iOS apps, a PostgreSQL backend they can take elsewhere, separate development and production data, and the option to buy more usage when a launch needs it; set a budget before Agent runs long. Base44 fits builders who want a fixed message allotment, Android store files and a free tier that hosts several apps, and who accept a backend tied to Base44. For a paid app with payments, weigh Replit Core against Base44 Builder, not the plans that share a name.
