**$79** — Per seat a month for Essentials billed annually ($99 billed monthly); Essentials lists one user seat, and on higher plans every extra user adds another seat.

- **5 profiles** — on Essentials and Standard (older accounts may differ); unlimited above
- **100 credits** — Trellis AI credits per seat a month
- **30 days** — free trial, no credit card; Listening not included

## Why seat count drives the whole bill

Sprout Social sells four public plans and one quoted tier, and **every published price is per seat, per month**. Essentials costs $99 per seat a month billed monthly or $79 billed annually. Standard costs $249 or $199, Professional $399 or $299, and Advanced $499 or $399 per seat a month on the same two terms [1]. Enterprise has no public price at all. All users on an account share one plan, so you cannot put a manager on Advanced and a coordinator on Essentials. Sprout's own help center describes the bill as plan plus users plus extra profiles plus add-ons. That is the formula to keep in mind.

| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Social profiles |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Essentials | $79 per seat a month | $99 per seat a month | 5 |
| Standard | $199 per seat a month | $249 per seat a month | 5 |
| Professional | $299 per seat a month | $399 per seat a month | Unlimited |
| Advanced | $399 per seat a month | $499 per seat a month | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Quoted | Quoted | Tailored |

Read the grid as a price per person, not per company. A team of four pays four times the listed rate, and every seat sits on the same tier. Annual billing means one upfront payment for the whole term, and billing options with several payments during a term lose the annual discount. Month-to-month terms cost more per month. The yearly rate saves between a fifth and a quarter on each plan, which matters more here than on cheaper tools because the base figures are large. There is no free version. The entry point is a 30-day free trial, covered further down.

## What each plan adds for the money

### Essentials: publishing and basic reporting

Essentials is the newest plan and the narrowest one. It connects up to five social profiles and covers composing, scheduling, the calendar, optimal send times and profile and post performance reports, plus Trellis, Sprout's AI agent. What it leaves out is the part many buyers assume comes standard. **Essentials has no Smart Inbox, cases, reviews, approvals or chatbots**, and it cannot take the Listening or Premium Analytics add-ons. It suits a solo marketer who mainly schedules posts. If anyone on the team needs to answer comments or messages inside Sprout, this plan is the wrong one.

### Standard: the inbox arrives

Standard keeps the five-profile limit but adds the consolidated Smart Inbox and collaboration tools, keyword and location monitoring, and review management. It includes 10 brand keywords per group, where Essentials has none. Standard is also the first plan that can buy add-ons, including Listening, Premium Analytics, Employee Advocacy and Professional Services. For a small team that handles customer messages across a handful of profiles, this is the realistic starting tier. The jump from Essentials is large, though. On annual billing the seat price rises by $120 a month, by our arithmetic, mainly for the inbox and reviews.

### Professional: unlimited profiles and approvals

Professional is the plan Sprout labels most popular. It removes the profile limit entirely and adds message tagging, competitor, tag and paid insights, and Enhance Post by AI Assist. Approval workflows, bulk scheduling of up to 350 posts in one import, saved replies and custom report branding also sit here. Sprout positions this tier for agencies and multi-brand teams, and five profiles disappear quickly once Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and a review site are connected for a single brand. If you manage more than one brand, start your comparison at Professional, not Standard.

### Advanced and Enterprise: care teams and integrations

Advanced is where the service and data features live. It adds Enhance Reply, sentiment in the Smart Inbox and Reviews, the Sprout API, helpdesk and CRM integrations such as Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot and Dynamics 365, and team productivity and customer care reports. Message Spike Alerts, chatbots, cases, automated rules, up to three external approvers and 20 brand keywords per group are also Advanced features. Enterprise is quoted after a demo and adds a tailored plan, white-glove onboarding, a dedicated SSO setup service and priority support on top of Advanced. **The API is Advanced only.** That single line moves many technical teams up a tier.

> 💡 **Count review locations as profiles:** On Standard, each review location and each WhatsApp number counts against the five-profile limit (Essentials includes neither reviews nor the Smart Inbox, where WhatsApp messages are handled). Count them before choosing a plan.

## Profile limits and what counts against them

Essentials and Standard each allow five social profiles, while Professional and Advanced allow unlimited profiles. The help center adds a nuance: the exact limit can also depend on when the account was created, and the current figure appears in Billing and Plan settings. Five sounds generous. It is not. On Standard, each review location from Google, Glassdoor, Yelp, Facebook, the App Store or Google Play counts against the limit. Each WhatsApp number counts as a profile too. A local business with three locations and two social accounts has already filled a Standard plan.

Some connections are free of that limit. Facebook and Meta ad accounts, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, TikTok ad accounts and Google Analytics do not count as profiles, and neither do integrations such as Zendesk, Canva, Dropbox, Google Drive, Slack or Shopify. Adding the same user to several groups does not raise fees either. Extra profiles appear in Sprout's cost formula, but the pricing page lists no price for them. If you are near the limit on Standard, ask for a written quote before you commit, because Professional's unlimited profiles may cost less than a stack of extras.

## Real team costs, by our arithmetic

Because the price is per seat, the numbers grow fast. Take one person on Essentials. Billed annually, that seat costs $948 a year; billed monthly, it costs $1,188 a year, a difference of $240. For a solo publisher that is the cheapest way into the product. Now take three seats on Professional. Billed annually, they come to $897 a month, or $10,764 a year. Billed monthly, the same team pays $1,197 a month, or $14,364 a year. Annual billing saves this team $3,600 a year.

Five seats on Advanced show how quickly a care team scales the bill. Billed annually, they cost $1,995 a month, or $23,940 a year. On monthly billing the same five seats cost $2,495 a month, or $29,940 a year, so the annual term saves $6,000. These figures cover the plan only. They do not include Trellis Plus, WhatsApp overage, add-ons or taxes, which Sprout adds by customer and location. **Budget per person, then add extras.** Seats added mid-cycle are prorated, then billed at the full rate from the next cycle.

> ⚠ **Annual plans renew without refunds:** Annual plans renew automatically. Plans paid upfront in the app are cancelled in the billing page before the renewal date; annual plans paid monthly and invoiced plans need 30 days' notice by email. Cancelling or downgrading brings no refund of prepaid fees.

Seats are also slow to shrink. Removing a user in the middle of a cycle keeps the seat open, and paid for, until the next billing cycle, although you can refill it with someone else. During the trial, extra seats are free, but each one raises the base plan price once you subscribe. Invite only the people who will log in every week. Shared calendar links let stakeholders without a seat follow the content plan, which is cheaper than a seat for occasional viewers.

## AI credits, Trellis Plus and WhatsApp conversations

Every seat on every plan includes 100 Trellis credits a month, and the allowance resets monthly. Only Trellis chat and skills use credits; AI Assist features such as Enhance Post do not. Credit use depends on how complex a prompt is and how much data Trellis has to retrieve, so broad multi-year analyses burn more. When a fair-use cap is hit, Trellis switches off until the end of the calendar month. Heavy users can buy **Trellis Plus at $28 per user a month billed annually or $35 billed monthly**, which raises the allowance to 1,000 credits, still under fair use.

Trellis Plus is bought per seat by admins, and a seat can be reassigned once per usage period. Some features, such as Trellis case summaries and drafts, require it. Three users on the add-on billed annually cost $84 a month, or $1,008 a year, by the same arithmetic. WhatsApp follows a separate meter. Sprout includes 1,000 WhatsApp conversations per calendar month, then charges as low as $100 per 1,000 conversations above that, and the help center says the rate can be higher depending on usage [2]. Click-to-WhatsApp ads are charged at standard ad pricing.

## Add-ons sold without a published price

Five extras sit outside the plan price, and none has a number on the pricing page. **Listening, Premium Analytics, Employee Advocacy, Professional Services and Guardian are all quoted through sales.** Premium Analytics offers interactive ROI charts, custom benchmarks and shareable stakeholder reports. Listening adds Smart Categories, sentiment tracking and custom spike alerts, and it is not available in trials. Employee Advocacy lets staff share approved stories, with UTM parameters and earned media value. Professional Services covers training, strategy reviews and expedited setup. Guardian bundles blocked words, data masking and secure forms for regulated teams.

The first four need Standard or above, so an Essentials account cannot buy them at all. Influencer Marketing is priced separately again: it needs no Sprout plan, creator fees are paid by the customer, and it is sold through a demo. Because none of these prices is public, a quote for Professional plus Listening can look nothing like the list price. Ask for every add-on as a separate line on the order form. Removing an add-on later is handled by a customer success manager or support, and it brings no refund for the unused term.

> 💡 **Get every add-on quoted separately:** Listening, Premium Analytics, Employee Advocacy, Professional Services and Guardian have no published price. Ask for each as its own line on the order form.

## Nonprofit pricing and the trial month

Sprout offers special pricing to US 501(c)(3) organizations only. The discount covers just two plans: Professional at $239 per seat a month and Advanced at $299 per seat a month, both billed annually [3]. Essentials and Standard are not discounted. A qualifying nonprofit must commit to at least two seats on an annual subscription. Two Professional seats at the nonprofit rate come to $478 a month, or $5,736 a year, against $7,176 at list price, by our arithmetic. That is $1,440 saved each year. Our [nonprofit guide](/articles/sprout-social-for-nonprofits) covers eligibility in detail.

The trial runs for 30 days and needs no credit card. You can switch plan level any number of times during it, including down to Essentials, and the trial gives access to Advanced features such as chatbots, but not to Listening. When it ends without a payment method, the trial simply expires. Scheduled posts stop publishing, social profiles disconnect and must be reconnected after you subscribe, and trial data is permanently deleted 30 days later. Export any reports you want to keep before the last day. The [free trial guide](/articles/sprout-social-free-trial) walks through a sensible test plan.

## Billing rules: renewal, refunds, downgrades and payment

The terms are strict, and they deserve a careful read before you sign. **Annual plans renew automatically**, including annual plans paid monthly. Annual plans paid upfront in the app are cancelled in the billing page before the renewal date, while annual plans paid monthly and invoiced plans need notice by email at least 30 days before the term ends. At renewal the price can rise by up to 7% without extra notice; a larger increase needs at least 60 days' notice. Monthly plans can be repriced at any time from the next pay date after notice [4]. Mid-term upgrades and add-ons are charged at the current public price, prorated by the days remaining. Set a calendar reminder well before your renewal date.

Refunds are close to nonexistent. Cancelling a monthly or annual plan keeps access until the next pay date, with no refund of prepaid fees. Downgrading or removing add-ons brings no refund or credit either. Downgrades take effect at the start of the next contract cycle and go through a customer success manager or the success team by email, not a button in the app. A downgrade can also force you to remove profiles or users. The only refund a customer can trigger is a prorated one after an uncured material breach by Sprout; Sprout also refunds or credits pro rata if it ends a plan over an IP remedy. Plan for that. Treat the first annual payment as committed money.

Payment options depend on how you buy. Online, Sprout takes major credit cards and PayPal, and a backup card or PayPal account can be charged automatically if the primary fails. ACH, check and wire transfers are accepted only for upfront annual subscriptions. If a renewal payment fails, a 7-day grace period starts, and after it the account is locked until the payment method is updated. Invoiced customers can attach purchase orders, and taxes are added unless a valid exemption certificate is on file. Overdue amounts carry a finance charge of 1.5% a month.

## How Sprout's per-seat model compares with four rivals

Hootsuite also charges per user. Standard is $99, Professional $199 and Advanced $399 per user a month billed annually, it publishes no month-to-month rate, and it has no free tier either, with a 14-day trial instead. Three users on Hootsuite Professional come to $7,164 a year, against $10,764 for three Professional seats on Sprout, by our arithmetic. Basic listening is included on every Hootsuite plan, while Sprout sells Listening as a quoted add-on. Our [Sprout Social vs Hootsuite comparison](/articles/sprout-social-vs-hootsuite) weighs the features behind those numbers.

The other three rivals price on a different axis. Buffer charges per connected channel, with a free tier for three channels; Team costs $12 per channel a month billed monthly or $10 billed yearly for the first ten channels, less per channel beyond that, with unlimited users. Later charges per Social Set of up to eight profiles: Growth costs $50 a month billed monthly or $37.50 billed annually for two sets and two users. Metricool charges per brand: Advanced covers 15 brands for $67 a month or $53 billed annually, with team management. Per-seat pricing is the costliest model for large teams. It pays off only when the inbox, care and reporting depth are needed.

Trellis Plus costs $28 per user a month billed annually or $35 billed monthly and raises the allowance to 1,000 credits a month, under fair use. Every seat already gets 100 credits a month.

## The bottom line

Sprout Social prices by the seat, so start with a headcount, not a plan name. Pick Essentials only if one person publishes and nobody answers messages in the tool; pick Standard for a small team that needs the inbox on five profiles; pick Professional for several brands, approvals and competitor reports; and pick Advanced when the API, cases, chatbots or a helpdesk integration are requirements. Pay annually if you are sure, since it saves a fifth or more, but remember the automatic renewal, the 30-day cancellation notice on annual plans paid monthly or invoiced, and the absence of refunds. Get every add-on quoted in writing. Then use the free trial before signing anything.
