**$29** — One-time price of Individual Lifetime, which adds manual approval for screened fit calls.

- **$0** — Free plan takes payment at booking
- **1% fee** — on Stripe bookings on Free and lifetime plans
- **$99/yr** — Pro: no seat fees, no platform fee

## Why consultants end up on TidyCal

Consultants sell time, and free quick calls leak it. TidyCal's consulting page argues that a free consultation that runs an hour is the product given away [129]. Its answer is simple: take payment at booking, which works on every plan, and screen requests with manual approval on the paid plans. For an independent consultant the change is mostly behavioral. Once the long session carries a price and the fit call needs approval, prospects who wanted free advice drop out early. **The calendar fills with people who have already paid for the work.**

Much of the advice below comes from TidyCal's own pages for consultants, tax advisors and lawyers, and from its guide to charging for consultations. They are concrete. They are also vendor pages, and the consulting page ranks TidyCal first. Even so, its quick answer concedes ground: it recommends Calendly for sales on Salesforce or HubSpot and Acuity for gift certificates or a waitlist. Read it with that in mind.

## A fit call, a strategy session and a retainer

TidyCal's example consultant runs three booking types on one page: a free 15-minute fit call that needs approval, a paid 90-minute strategy session at $400, and a 45-minute advisory call for retainer clients. Unlimited booking types are free, so the structure costs nothing to build. Each call has a different job. The fit call filters, the strategy session earns, and the retainer turns one good session into steady monthly income.

### The screened fit call

The fit call is 15 minutes, free and set to need approval. Its purpose is to test whether a project is real. TidyCal's example asks for the company website, a monthly revenue band and what the client wants to fix, and TidyCal says these questions save an hour. A revenue band lets a consultant decline a pre-revenue founder who wants everything fixed before the call is ever booked. That is the point.

Questions work on every plan, but manual approval needs Individual Lifetime, Agency Lifetime or Pro. It holds a request until the consultant accepts it, and the screening answers arrive with the request. Pending requests hold the slot. Rejecting one emails the client and frees the slot, so a weak request gets a polite no before it costs time. Requests never expire, which means an unanswered one keeps blocking that slot until you decide.

> 💡 **Price the session, screen the call:** Put a price on the session people actually want, and keep the fit call short and screened with a revenue band and an approval step.

### The paid strategy session

The example strategy session is 90 minutes at $400, paid in full at booking through Stripe or PayPal. There is no invoice. The form asks for the client's current pricing page and anything the consultant should read first, so the material arrives with the payment. The consultant reads it the night before and starts advising from minute one, rather than spending the first quarter of the session on background questions. **The session starts with work.**

### Retainers as subscriptions

A retainer runs as a subscription: Stripe bills monthly and the client gets a set number of calls, and subscriptions are available on the Free plan. The guide's example is $400 a month for 4 weekly calls, which works out to $100 per call by our arithmetic. That is cheaper for the client than single sessions and gives the consultant predictable income billed automatically. Clients book the 45-minute advisory call whenever they want within their allowance. Unused credits do not roll over. PayPal cannot run subscriptions, so Stripe is required.

> 💡 **Run retainers as subscriptions:** Run retainers as subscriptions with a set number of calls each month. Stripe bills automatically, and there is no invoicing each month.

## Putting a price on your time

TidyCal's guide suggests picking a price, taking payment at booking and selling sessions in bundles [145]. Its pricing models are per session, package, subscription, and a free intro followed by paid sessions. Each fits different clients, so pick one main offer. To set the number, the guide divides a monthly income goal by the sessions you can deliver. Its example is $6,000 a month and 50 sessions, which gives $120 per session, and it says to raise the price once the calendar stays full.

Working the formula backward also sets a ceiling. A consultant who can deliver only 25 sessions a month needs $240 per session to reach the same $6,000, which shows quickly whether the target is realistic at the current price. Packages suit project work. The guide's example is 5 sessions for $500, or $100 each against $120 single, paid up front and available on every plan. The per-session discount gives clients a reason to buy the bundle, and advisory blocks fit the format well.

## Getting paid, and the 1% fee

The guide recommends charging before the consultation, because payment at booking removes invoicing and reduces no-shows. Clients pay through Stripe or PayPal, money goes straight to the consultant's account, and each booking type has its own currency. Stripe is needed for subscriptions and cancellation fees, so a consultant who sells retainers has to connect it. PayPal carries no platform fee. Choose by offer. Collect first. Advise second.

On Free and lifetime plans, TidyCal adds a 1% platform fee on Stripe bookings [145]. On a $120 session that is $1.20, the guide's own example, and on the $400 session it is $4, by our arithmetic. By default the client pays the fee as a separate checkout line. On lifetime plans the consultant can absorb it; on Free, the client always pays. Corporate clients may question a 1% line. A consultant who sells three strategy sessions and two retainers a month through Stripe, $2,000 in total, pays $20 a month or $240 a year when absorbing the fee. That is more than twice the $99 that Pro costs for a year.

Paid plans can also charge one flat fee for late cancellations and no-shows on Stripe bookings. It applies once per booking, rescheduling never triggers it, and the guide suggests pairing a cancellation window with a no-show fee. State it up front. Invoicing is the gap for B2B work. TidyCal takes payment at booking, so there is no invoice to chase, but it cannot collect clients' VAT IDs as verified tax IDs, only as a text question. B2B consultants in Europe should check their needs.

## Protecting prep time and the call itself

TidyCal suggests 24 hours of notice for fit calls and 48 for strategy sessions, set per booking type on every plan, to give time to read what the client sent. With 48 hours of notice, a client who books on Monday morning can choose Wednesday morning at the earliest, which guarantees at least one evening with the materials. Longer notice means better sessions.

TidyCal also suggests a 30-minute buffer after a strategy session to write the summary while it is fresh. Buffers are set per booking type on every plan and apply only when that type is booked. Protect the follow-up time. On Lifetime and Pro, each booking gets its own Zoom, Google Meet or Teams link, and in TidyCal's example approval triggers a confirmation with a Meet link. Free users paste one link instead. Teams needs a business account. Pick what your clients use.

## Where the booking link lives

TidyCal suggests embedding the booking page on the website's work-with-me page so nobody leaves to book. Embedding works on every plan, the embed resizes itself and payments work inside it. The example consultant also puts the link at the bottom of every LinkedIn post and in the website button, and the guide adds social bios, email signatures and proposals. One link, many places. Every account also gets a booking website with bio, testimonials and FAQ sections, though Free shows a prominent footer that Pro removes, and consultants with a site may skip it.

Clients can rate sessions after they end, on every plan. Reviews publish immediately, only first names show, and average ratings appear in directory listings. Corporate clients may not leave reviews unprompted. Ask them. TidyCal's public directory has a Consulting category with business, management, HR, strategy, operations and startup consulting, and listing is free. It lists 2,138 business consulting, 317 startup, 239 strategy, 57 operations, 37 management and 35 HR listings, or 2,823 in total by our arithmetic, with business consulting at about 76%. The coaching page counts consulting differently, so treat counts as rough. It adds some visibility. It is not a lead engine.

## Tax and accounting advisors: a paid, seasonal year

TidyCal's tax page suggests a paid discovery call, a planning session, a year-end review and more hours from February to April [138]. Every call is paid, and clients describe their situation before they show up. The example discovery call is 45 minutes at $300, credited to the engagement if the client hires the advisor. TidyCal argues that the free quick-question call gives away the most valuable 30 minutes of the year. Crediting the $300 means a client who hires pays nothing extra for the first conversation, while one who does not still paid for a real working session.

The planning session is 90 minutes at $700, covering entity, estimates and deductions, with a written plan after. The year-end review is 60 minutes at $450, offered only in November and December. A client who books both pays $1,150 across the year, by our arithmetic. A disabled booking type disappears from the page with its settings and questions kept, so the advisor can switch the review on in November and off again on January 1 without rebuilding it.

The calendar follows the season. TidyCal suggests a normal schedule and a tax-season schedule with longer hours, assigned to discovery calls from January, and all plans can create unlimited schedules. Date overrides add Saturdays in February and March and block the week after April 15. In March, TidyCal suggests turning on manual approval for discovery calls, on Lifetime and Pro, with 48 hours of notice for discovery and 72 for planning. Documents are the one gap. The booking form takes no file uploads, so the tax page suggests a checklist question about which documents the client can bring, with the files themselves going to a secure client portal.

## Lawyers and other regulated advisors

TidyCal's lawyers page sets out a free 15-minute call that needs approval and a $250 paid initial consultation credited to the flat fee. A small estate-planning practice can therefore screen inquiries with an approval-only free call and charge for the first real conversation. The page is clear about limits. TidyCal is not practice management software, and bar rules on advertising, fees and intake still apply. Check yours. On confidentiality it advises keeping intake to basics: contact details, type of matter and names for a conflict check. Sensitive details belong in secure systems.

> ⚠ **No routing, uploads or webhooks:** No routing forms or CRM sync, no file uploads on booking forms and no configurable webhooks: sales-led firms should compare Calendly, and documents belong in a secure portal.

## Partners and small firms

Agency Lifetime and Pro include a team booking page, round robin and collective bookings, so a partner can share inbound calls or join joint calls. New Agency licenses seat 4 including the owner, and pending invites count. Pro has unlimited seats with no per-seat fees, so firms beyond four need Pro. Each person needs an account. Round robin spreads discovery calls across preparers or partners by priority, with random ties, but keeps no rotation or workload count. A firm that promises an equal share should check team bookings by host each month and adjust priorities by hand. Collective bookings offer a time only when both advisors are free, and TidyCal recommends them for teams of 2 to 4.

Pro costs $99 a year with no seat fees, no branding and no platform fee, and adds a custom domain and priority support [1]. It also removes the prominent footer from the booking website. One condition is easy to miss. Fee-free plans are capped at $10,000 of monthly sales, so busy firms should ask about that cap before they decide.

## What TidyCal does not do for consultants

The gaps are clear, and most matter more to firms than to independents. TidyCal has no routing forms and no built-in Salesforce or HubSpot integration, so sales-led firms should compare Calendly. Zapier can push bookings to a CRM on paid plans, with triggers for created, updated and canceled bookings, but every answer arrives in one field and nothing routes the lead to a particular partner. There are no configurable webhooks either, so the API needs polling and firms with custom onboarding systems should plan for that.

There are no file uploads, and no deposit or partial-payment option. Engagements are paid per session, as a package or as a subscription, so large projects need separate invoicing. Use TidyCal for advisory sessions and bill projects elsewhere. Email goes out only from TidyCal's address. For marketing, GA4 and Tag Manager need a paid plan, GA4 receives six booking events, and consultants running LinkedIn ads can load pixels through Tag Manager.

## TidyCal next to Calendly, SavvyCal and Acuity

The consulting page ranks TidyCal first, then Calendly, Acuity and SavvyCal, and says each rival does something better. It says its competitor prices were checked on the rivals' pages on September 30, 2026. Verify before buying. Calendly pulls ahead on routing forms and CRM routing on Teams, and adds webhooks and invoices on paid plans; its Standard plan costs $10 a seat a month billed annually. Firms with sales teams fit there. Independents may overpay. Our [TidyCal vs Calendly comparison](/articles/tidycal-vs-calendly) covers the rest.

TidyCal says SavvyCal lets invitees overlay their calendar on the host's, has no free plan and needs Premium for payments, and it quotes Basic at $12 per user a month, or $10 billed yearly. Those are TidyCal's figures, so check SavvyCal. Acuity has no free plan; Starter costs $20 a month or $16 billed annually, and it offers strong intake forms, gift certificates and a waitlist. Intake-heavy firms should compare it. Switching is easy: the Calendly importer brings event types, bookings and contacts on every plan and changes nothing on Calendly, though prices do not carry over.

| Over three years | Solo consultant | Five-person firm |
| --- | --- | --- |
| TidyCal Free | $0 | |
| TidyCal Individual Lifetime | $29 | |
| TidyCal Pro, billed yearly | $297 | $297 |
| Calendly, billed annually | $360 (Standard) | $2,880 (five Teams seats) |
| Acuity Starter | $576 | |

For one consultant the gap between TidyCal Pro and Calendly Standard over three years is small, by our arithmetic. For a firm it is not, because Pro has no seat fees while Calendly charges per seat. That difference, more than any feature, is what makes TidyCal attractive to small partnerships. Our [TidyCal pricing guide](/articles/tidycal-pricing) walks through each plan in detail.

## FAQ

**Can consultants charge for consultations on TidyCal?**

Yes. Connect Stripe or PayPal, set a price and clients pay at booking, on every plan including Free.

**Can I screen clients before a call?**

Yes. Intake questions work on every plan, and manual approval on Individual Lifetime, Agency Lifetime and Pro holds requests until you accept them.

**Can I bill a monthly retainer?**

Yes, as a subscription billed through Stripe that grants a set number of calls. PayPal cannot run subscriptions, and unused credits do not roll over.

**Who pays TidyCal's 1% fee?**

By default the client pays it as a separate checkout line. On lifetime plans the consultant can absorb it, on Free the client always pays, and Pro has no platform fee.

**Can clients upload documents when they book?**

No. Booking questions do not support file uploads, so TidyCal suggests a checklist question and a secure client portal for the documents.

**Does TidyCal sync with Salesforce or HubSpot?**

Not natively. Zapier can push bookings to a CRM on paid plans, but there is no lead routing, so sales-led firms should compare Calendly.

## The bottom line

TidyCal turns free quick calls into paid sessions and retainers with little setup. Approval and screening protect your time on paid plans, and tax and legal advisors get seasonal schedules but must keep documents elsewhere. An independent consultant who sells paid strategy sessions and retainers, screens fit calls and keeps documents in a secure portal will find TidyCal enough, and strong value. Firms that route leads, collect files or integrate with client systems will need more. Decide by workflow, not by price alone.
