**$29 once** — Individual Lifetime, the one-time price that unlocks group classes and per-lesson video links.

- **$0** — Free plan takes paid trials, packs and weekly lessons
- **$310** — 10-lesson pack, $40 less than ten singles
- **1%** — TidyCal fee on Stripe bookings on Free

## Why independent tutors look at TidyCal

Tutors sell time in an awkward shape. Lessons cross time zones, students buy them one at a time or in packs, and regulars want the same weekly slot all term. TidyCal handles that shape well, and **most of it runs on the Free plan**: paid bookings, lesson packages and recurring weekly lessons are all included, and students see your open times converted to their own time zone [140]. For an online language tutor, that means a paid trial, single lessons, a ten-lesson pack and a weekly slot can all live on one free booking page, with students paying before each lesson starts.

The paid step comes later. Individual Lifetime costs $29 once and unlocks group classes, a separate video link for each lesson, limits on rescheduling and late-cancel fees. It suits independent teachers best. Tutoring centers with several teachers, and anyone who needs a waitlist or gift certificates, will reach the edges sooner. This guide leans on the setups from TidyCal's two teaching pages, for tutors and for music teachers.

## The four lessons worth selling

TidyCal's tutors page suggests four booking types: a paid trial lesson, single lessons, a 10-lesson pack and a weekly slot. Its music page proposes a similar mix for a studio, with a free trial, a weekly lesson, a 4-lesson package and a group theory class [133]. Here are the tutor examples, with the prices TidyCal itself uses on its tutors page:

| Lesson type | Length | Example price | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trial lesson | 30 min | $15 | Paid |
| 60-minute lesson | 60 min | $35 | Paid |
| 10-lesson pack | 60 min | $31 a session, $310 total | Package |
| Weekly lesson, 8 weeks | 60 min | $35 | Recurring |

### A trial that costs something

TidyCal's example trial is 30 minutes at $15, and the page calls that cheap enough to try and paid enough to show up. Its argument is blunt. A free trial fills a calendar with people shopping five tutors at once, while a paid one gets you students. Clients pay at booking through Stripe or PayPal. The music page breaks its own rule, though, with a free 20-minute trial for children. **Paid trials suit adults learning online, while free trials suit parents meeting a teacher.** Choose by who books.

### Two questions on the trial, none for regulars

The tutors page asks just two questions, and only on the trial: the student's level and why they are learning. It calls the second answer gold, since different goals need different first lessons. Someone moving to Valencia in March and someone who wants to talk with Spanish-speaking in-laws need very different material, and the tutor sees the answer before the trial starts. Two questions are enough. Students finish the form. The music page asks three on its trial instead: student name and age, current level and the instrument at home, which parents fill in for children. TidyCal says the instrument answer shapes the first month.

Because questions sit on the trial booking type only, returning students never see a form, and intake answers on recurring types are given once. Keep forms on first contact and let regulars book fast. One limit applies to every form, though: booking questions support text, choices, dropdowns, dates and phone numbers, but not file uploads. Homework has to travel by email or through a learning tool, so plan that channel early.

> 💡 **Charge for the trial lesson:** A small fee, like TidyCal's $15 example, keeps people shopping five tutors at once off your calendar. Students who pay tend to show up.

## Packs, weekly slots and getting paid

### The lesson pack

The example single lesson is 60 minutes at $35, and TidyCal is candid about its weak spot: a student who pays per lesson is always deciding whether to book the next one. A package booking type sets the number of lessons and the price per lesson; the student picks the dates and pays once. Packages are on every plan, Free included. TidyCal's example is 10 lessons at $31 each. Ten singles at $35 would cost $350, so the pack at $310 saves the student $40, a discount of about 11% by our arithmetic. That nudges commitment. It also smooths income, because the tutor collects $310 the day a student commits instead of $35 at a time over ten weeks.

### The weekly recurring slot

A recurring booking type lets a student or parent pick a day and time once and book the whole term. Recurring bookings are on every plan, including Free, and new recurring types default to weekly for 8 bookings. **The billing is what makes it work** [99]. Paid recurring sessions are charged one by one to a saved card within the hour before each session, so a parent who books a 12-week term at $45 a lesson commits to $540 in total but pays lesson by lesson. A failed charge cancels only that session, and each lesson syncs to your calendar as its own event. One condition matters: recurring payments need Stripe, and PayPal cannot be used for them.

### Subscriptions, coupons and the 1% fee

Some tutors sell a month rather than a term. TidyCal's subscriptions bill monthly through Stripe and grant a set number of lessons, and they are on every plan, but unused credits do not roll over. Coupons, also on every plan, discount every session of a recurring series or package, which suits sibling or referral codes. PayPal suits single lessons, while Stripe is required for anything recurring.

That choice carries a cost. On the Free plan, Stripe bookings carry a 1% TidyCal fee [37]. PayPal carries none, Pro removes the fee, and on lifetime plans tutors can absorb it. On a $310 pack, the fee is $3.10. A tutor who sells three ten-lesson packs a month through Stripe on Free sees $9.30 in platform fees added to students' totals, by our arithmetic. Through PayPal, the same sales carry no TidyCal fee at all. Small money, but real.

## Hours, time zones and the gaps between lessons

### Let time zones fill your best hours

Students see your open times converted to their own time zone, while your calendar shows yours. TidyCal's example is a student in Tokyo who books 9pm Tuesday, which is 2pm in Madrid. Nobody does the math. That changes how a tutor should set hours. TidyCal advises opening only the hours you teach best, such as 2pm to 8pm, because students elsewhere will still find slots, while opening every hour invites a 6am booking from another continent.

Language works the same way for international students. The tutors page says booking pages and emails can show in 30+ languages, and the help center lists 40 language options. The language is set once per account, and lesson titles are not translated, so write them in your students' language. The booking website is the exception, since it stays in English even when booking pages use another language.

> 💡 **Open only your best hours:** Students see your times in their own time zone, so a window such as 2pm to 8pm still fills from other continents without inviting a 6am booking.

### Buffers, notice and booking windows

TidyCal suggests a 10-minute buffer for tutors, and the music page suggests 5 minutes between lessons and 10 after trials. Buffers are free on every plan. Skip them and back-to-back online lessons start late by the evening: six lessons that each overrun by two minutes leave the sixth starting about ten minutes late, by our arithmetic. Minimum notice protects your prep time. TidyCal suggests 12 hours for tutors, enough to prepare without losing late bookers, while the music page keeps the 2-hour default for makeups. The booking window keeps its 60-day default, which rolls forward and is long enough for a term; full-year terms need a longer one.

## Reminders, rescheduling and video links

Reminder emails go out 24 hours and 1 hour before every lesson by default, and email reminders are on every plan. The music page says this ends the same-day texts asking whether a lesson is still on. Text reminders are a different matter, since they need Agency Lifetime or Pro. Video is split by plan as well. Tutors can paste a video link as the location, or connect Zoom, Google Meet or Teams on Lifetime and Pro so each lesson gets its own link. Free users reuse one room. Online tutors gain the most from the $29 license.

Every confirmation carries reschedule and cancel links, so students move lessons themselves and fewer messages reach you. The controls around those links belong to the paid plans. Limiting rescheduling to a set time before the lesson needs Individual Lifetime or Pro, and TidyCal suggests allowing it until 24 hours before. A tutor on Free accepts that a student can move a lesson until it starts, which mostly matters with a full calendar and students waiting. Late-cancel fees follow the same split: they work on Lifetime and Pro, only on Stripe paid bookings, never on a reschedule, and not at all for Free users. **Decide on a policy before term.**

## Group classes and the $29 question

TidyCal's tutors page suggests a Saturday conversation club with 6 seats. Group bookings let several students book the same slot up to the seats you set, each attendee pays separately, and seats range from 2 to 10,000 per slot. A class closes when the last seat is taken, and pages can show remaining seats; TidyCal says parents who see 2 seats left tend to book faster. The music example is a group theory class of 45 minutes at $25 with 6 seats on Saturday mornings. Six students bring $150 for that class, by our arithmetic, against $45 for a single 30-minute private lesson.

The catch is the plan. Group classes need Individual Lifetime or Pro, so a tutor on Free must buy the $29 license before opening the first class. That same license adds 10 calendars, per-lesson video links, rescheduling limits and late-cancel fees. Online tutors who run classes need it. Solo private tutors may not. Our [TidyCal lifetime deal guide](/articles/tidycal-lifetime-deal) covers what the license includes beyond tutoring.

> ⚠ **Group classes need a paid plan:** Group classes need Individual Lifetime or Pro; Free saves them with one seat. Buy the $29 license before you announce a conversation club.

## Running a music studio for families

TidyCal's music page sets out a piano studio with a free 20-minute trial, a weekly 30-minute lesson, a 4-lesson package and a group theory class. It opens Monday to Thursday from 2:30 to 7pm and Saturday from 9 to noon, to match after-school demand, and since all plans can create unlimited schedules, separate summer hours are easy. The weekly lesson is the main time saver. It runs 30 minutes at $45 for a 12-week term, so a family that picks Tuesday at 4pm in late August is booked until December without further messages, and every lesson is charged before it happens.

Adults get a different format. The example 4-lesson package is 30 minutes at $42.50 each, or $170 paid once, for adults who cannot commit to a weekly slot and would rather pick four dates that work. Since packages are paid upfront and weekly lessons before each session, chasing lesson fees at the end of the month stops. A parent can add the other parent as a guest so both get reminders, though guest invites are not offered on recurring booking types. Families can also vote on a recital date through a date poll on every plan.

## Getting found: directory, reviews and your own site

TidyCal's public directory has an Education and Tutoring category, and listing is free on every plan. Its 2,373 education listings include 776 for language lessons, so a language tutor sits among many similar pages. That is a little discovery, not a pipeline. Reviews help you stand out: students and parents can rate lessons after they end, on every plan, reviews publish immediately with first names only, and ratings appear on directory listings. Ask happy families. Every account also gets a booking website with bio, testimonials and FAQ sections, and embedding on your own site works on every plan.

## What TidyCal will not do for tutors

The gaps are clear and mostly small. There is no native mobile app: TidyCal runs in the phone browser, lessons land on your calendar so your calendar app alerts you, and students need no app either. Teachers who manage everything on a phone should test it first. Booking forms take no file uploads. There is no waitlist and no gift certificates, which is exactly where TidyCal's own teaching pages point readers to Acuity. Student progress tracking is not among TidyCal's features, so progress notes belong in a separate teaching tool.

### Tutoring centers and agencies

Centers with several tutors need Agency Lifetime or Pro for team pages and round robin. New Agency licenses seat 4, while Pro has unlimited seats, and each tutor needs an account, so larger centers need Pro. Round robin sends each trial to one available tutor by priority, with no rotation, and a rescheduled booking may switch tutor. Pack students may prefer one tutor, so send them to that tutor's personal page instead.

## TidyCal next to Acuity, Calendly and Cal.com

TidyCal's teaching pages rank TidyCal first, then Acuity, Calendly and Cal.com, with prices checked on September 30, 2026. Read it as a vendor page. Acuity offers gift certificates, a waitlist, memberships and packages, has no free plan, and its Starter plan costs $20 a month or $16 billed annually. Calendly's free plan has one event type, and payments need Standard at $10 a seat a month billed annually. TidyCal says Cal.com is free for one user.

Over three years, by our arithmetic, a tutor pays $0 on Free, $29 once for Individual Lifetime or $297 for Pro billed yearly. Acuity Starter costs $576 billed annually over the same period, and Calendly Standard $360. **TidyCal costs least**, and the $29 license costs less than one 60-minute lesson at the $35 example price. Switching is simple. The Calendly importer brings event types, bookings and students on every plan, though prices and recurring settings need re-entering. Our [TidyCal vs Calendly comparison](/articles/tidycal-vs-calendly) goes further.

## A tutoring week, and three mistakes to avoid

TidyCal's tutors page names three scheduling mistakes: opening every hour of the day, selling single lessons only and skipping the buffer. Each has a fix in the setup above, namely best hours, packs or weekly slots, and a 10-minute gap. Get those right and the week runs itself. A student in Tokyo books a trial, the trial runs with the level already known, the tutor sends the pack link afterward, and reminders handle the rest. In order:

- Create a paid trial lesson with two questions: level and reason for learning.
- Build a lesson pack and a weekly slot.
- Open only your best hours and set a 10-minute buffer.
- Connect Stripe, which recurring lessons require.
- Share the link on your site, in your email signature and with families.

> ⚠ **Weekly lessons need Stripe:** Recurring lessons are charged to a saved card before each session, and PayPal cannot be used for them.

## Our verdict for tutors

TidyCal handles the tutoring basics well: paid trials, packs, weekly slots and time zones, mostly on the Free plan. Start free. A private tutor who sells paid trials, packs and weekly lessons across time zones can run on TidyCal Free, add $29 once for group classes and per-lesson video links, and keep homework and progress notes in a separate teaching tool. Skip it if you need a waitlist or gift certificates, and remember that larger tutoring centers need Pro.
