**3.6 / 5** — Our Toolkit Score for TidyCal: outstanding value for solo service businesses, held back by thin integrations and shifting lifetime terms.

- **$0** — Free plan takes paid bookings
- **$99/yr** — Pro, unlimited seats, no fee
- **1%** — Stripe fee below Pro

## The verdict, in one line

TidyCal is an online appointment scheduler from AppSumo, pitched as a Calendly alternative, and it is built to cost almost nothing. **The Free plan already takes paid bookings, packages and subscriptions**, with unlimited booking types [1]. Lifetime plans cost $29 or $79 once on AppSumo, and Pro costs $99 a year. The catch is real. Lifetime terms shrank for new buyers in 2026, and there are no webhooks and no native app [56]. For a solo coach the arithmetic is stark: three years of Pro billed yearly come to $297, against $360 for a single Calendly Standard seat billed annually over the same three years. The $29 lifetime plan undercuts both if its current limits are enough.

TidyCal is operated by Sumo Group Inc., the company behind AppSumo, as one of the AppSumo Originals products. AppSumo lists the company in Austin, Texas, and says TidyCal launched in 2021. That ownership shapes the pricing. Lifetime plans are sold only on AppSumo, while Pro is sold on tidycal.com through Stripe, and the two paths come with different rules for activation, refunds and limits.

## Who it's for — and who should skip it

TidyCal fits **coaches, tutors, consultants and freelancers who sell sessions, packs or retainers**. The Free plan already takes payments, small teams of up to 4 can pay $79 once for a new Agency Lifetime license, and larger teams avoid seat fees on Pro. Picture a tutor who sells a trial lesson, single lessons, a ten-lesson pack and a weekly slot. All four can run on the Free plan with Stripe, and the tutor pays nothing to TidyCal beyond the 1% line that students see at checkout.

The wrong fit is easy to spot. Healthcare providers who need a signed business associate agreement should look elsewhere, because TidyCal does not sign one [104]. So should sales teams that need routing forms, Salesforce sync or fair round-robin rotation. Developers who need webhooks will struggle, and anyone who manages bookings mainly from a phone app should test the browser flow first. TidyCal books people, not rooms, and teams that want to self-host must look at Cal.com instead.

> 💡 **Check the license purchase date:** Agency Lifetime bought on or after September 1, 2026 seats 4 members with 10 calendars and 10 SMS segments. Older licenses keep their larger limits, so read reviews with the date in mind.

## What you pay: four plans and a 1% fee

There are four plans: one free, two lifetime licenses paid once on AppSumo, and one subscription that is the only way to remove the platform fee and all branding [1]. Calendars and seats are where they differ most.

| Plan | Price | Calendars | Team seats | Platform fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 | none | 1% on Stripe |
| Individual Lifetime | $29 once | 10 | none | 1% on Stripe |
| Agency Lifetime | $79 once | 10 | 4 incl. owner | 1% on Stripe |
| Pro | $12/mo or $99/yr | unlimited | unlimited | none |

### Which plan you actually need

**Free** is a $0 plan with no time limit. It covers unlimited bookings and booking types, paid bookings, recurring and package bookings, coupons, subscriptions, reviews and a directory listing. Only one calendar connects. That is generous. **Individual Lifetime** adds automatic Zoom, Google Meet and Teams links, group bookings, custom emails, booking limits, AI features, Google Analytics and API access. It reads up to 10 calendars and shows reduced branding, but it has no team seats. Solo hosts start here.

**Agency Lifetime** adds round robin and collective meetings, a team booking page and SMS reminders for US and Canadian numbers. New licenses cover 4 members including the owner, 10 calendars and 10 SMS segments a month, and pending invites count toward the seats. **Pro** includes every Agency Lifetime feature plus a custom domain, priority support, unlimited SMS reminders, unlimited calendars and unlimited team members. It also drops the platform fee and is the only plan that removes all branding.

### The 1% fee, and who pays it

TidyCal adds **a 1% platform fee to Stripe payments on Free and both lifetime plans** [37]. It covers one-off bookings, recurring and package sessions, subscription charges and storefront sales. Pro pays none, PayPal payments carry no platform fee at all, and Stripe's own processing fees come on top. By default the client pays the 1% as a separate line at checkout, so a $150 session shows up as $151.50, which some clients will read as a booking surcharge. On Free the client always pays it, while lifetime owners can choose to cover it from the payout.

Refunds return the fee automatically, and the Terms let TidyCal change fees at any time. For a busy practice the fee decides the plan. One that collects $2,000 a month through Stripe and absorbs the fee pays $20 a month, or $240 a year by our arithmetic. That is more than twice the $99 that Pro costs for a full year without any platform fee.

### Lifetime terms changed several times in 2026

A lifetime plan is a single payment with no renewal, activated on AppSumo and matched to your TidyCal account by email, so keep the emails identical. The terms have moved. Pro launched in April 2026, and Individual Lifetime bought after that no longer includes a custom domain. Agency Lifetime bought on or after September 1, 2026 dropped from unlimited members, 25 calendars and 20 SMS segments to 4, 10 and 10. Older licenses keep their limits. Then in October 2026, AppSumo reviewers with early lifetime plans complained about a new 1% fee and lost branding removal, and the team replied that some features can no longer be supported on lifetime plans.

> ⚠ **Pro gives you only 7 days:** Pro has no free trial and is refundable only within 7 days of purchase, while AppSumo refunds lifetime plans for 60 days.

Anyone reading older reviews should check the date of the license being described. Refunds differ too. Pro is refundable in full within 7 days of purchase, then not at all, while AppSumo refunds lifetime plans for 60 days, and a refunded license returns the account to Free. Pro has no free trial, so a buyer unsure about it gets roughly an eighth as long to decide. Our [TidyCal lifetime deal guide](/articles/tidycal-lifetime-deal) covers the details.

## Selling sessions: payments, packages and subscriptions

### Stripe, PayPal and failed cards

Stripe and PayPal work on every plan, with one processor and one currency per booking type. Stripe wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link are registered automatically, and PayPal offers Venmo to eligible US buyers. **There is no deposit option.** When a card is declined, TidyCal holds the slot about 4 hours and emails the client a payment link twice, about 30 minutes and 2 hours after the decline. This recovery works with Stripe only. TidyCal does not email the host either; a badge appears in the account instead.

### Recurring series, packages and subscriptions

Recurring bookings are on every plan, and a new recurring type defaults to weekly for 8 bookings. Paid sessions are charged one by one to a saved card within the hour before each session, through Stripe only, so a declined card cancels only the session it was meant to pay for. Packages let clients pick a set number of dates and pay upfront, and TidyCal lists 3, 5 and 10 session packs on every plan. Neither a series nor a package can be rescheduled as a whole.

Subscriptions bill a client every week, month or year and grant 1 to 100 booking credits per period, 4 by default. They run on all plans and need Stripe. Unused credits do not roll over, so a student who books only two lessons in October starts November with four credits, not six. TidyCal also does not email subscribers about failed renewals. Retainers fit here.

### No-show fees, coupons and the storefront

A single flat fee can cover late cancellations and no-shows on Stripe paid bookings. It needs a paid plan, never applies to PayPal bookings and is never triggered by rescheduling. On Free, clients can always cancel. Coupons come with every plan as a percentage, a fixed amount or free, limited per booker email rather than as a total, and the platform fee is calculated on the discounted price. The digital storefront, also on all plans, sells PDF, EPUB or ZIP files up to 64 MB through Stripe, and up to 3 products can ride as add-ons on a booking type.

## Building the schedule and the booking page

### Booking types, hours and limits

Every plan can create unlimited booking types, each with its own duration, price, location, questions and availability, and the shortest slot interval is 15 minutes. Availability schedules are unlimited too, with per-day hours, date overrides and several windows per day for a lunch break. Buffers are set per booking type, minimum notice defaults to 2 hours and the booking window to 60 days ahead, and both can be changed on Free. Setup is quick. Booking limits, which cap a type per day, week, month or in total, need a paid plan, and there is no global cap across all types.

### Groups, date polls and manual approval

Group bookings allow 2 to 10,000 attendees per slot and require a paid plan, with each attendee paying separately. Date polls are on all plans, with unlimited voters, and the host picks the final time. **Polls cannot collect payment, and booking the winning date creates one booking per voter**, including voters who picked another date. Read that twice. A workshop poll with eight voters produces eight bookings. Manual approval, on paid plans, holds a requested slot until the host accepts or rejects it. Paid requests are charged at request time, and a rejection does not refund automatically.

### The page your clients see

The theme editor works on every plan, with 20 Google Fonts, a dark mode and a contrast check for WCAG AA. Booker-facing pages and emails come in 40 language options, while the app and host emails stay in English. Every account can also publish a landing page with 10 sections and 4 themes, though changes are not saved automatically. Save often. Clients can rate a booking from 1 to 5 stars after it ends, and reviews publish immediately with no moderation queue. Embedding works on every plan as an inline iframe, with no popup option. Custom domains need Pro, or an Agency Lifetime license bought before September 1, 2026, and reCAPTCHA and mutual availability do not work on them.

## Calendars, reminders and video links

TidyCal connects **Google, Microsoft 365 and Apple iCloud calendars only**; Proton and self-hosted CalDAV cannot connect. The limits count reading-enabled calendars: 1 on Free, 10 on lifetime plans and unlimited on Pro. A consultant who keeps a work calendar in Google and a family calendar in iCloud is already past the Free plan, while Individual Lifetime covers up to ten for $29. Sync is two-way. Google and Microsoft update within minutes, iCloud is polled at most every two minutes during use, and every reading calendar is checked for every booking type.

Automatic Zoom, Google Meet and Teams links need a paid plan, so Free users paste a custom video link instead, and Teams links need a Microsoft 365 Business or Education account. Every plan sends booker reminders 1 day and 1 hour before, plus up to 3 automated before and after emails, and paid plans can customize the timing and templates. SMS reminders need Agency Lifetime or Pro and reach only US and Canadian mobile numbers, one-way, with no per-message charge. Once the monthly allowance runs out, texts are skipped and emails still go out. A new Agency Lifetime license that sends one text per appointment covers about ten appointments a month.

> 💡 **Use PayPal to skip the fee:** On Free and lifetime plans the 1% platform fee applies only to Stripe. PayPal payments carry no platform fee at all.

## Teams, integrations and the API

### Round robin, collective and roles

Team booking types need a team owner on Pro or Agency Lifetime, and each host needs an account. Collective meetings show a slot only when every host is free. Round robin picks the free host with the highest of five priority levels and breaks ties at random. **There is no sequential rotation and no workload tracking**, so two equally ranked consultants can end a month with quite different booking counts, and managers who promise even distribution have to adjust priorities by hand. Plans belong to each person, not to the team: team booking types follow the owner's plan, while Zapier and the API follow each member's own plan.

### Zapier, the API and the missing webhooks

Zapier needs a paid plan and offers three triggers: booking created, updated and canceled. SendFox connects natively on every plan, and Mailchimp and the rest go through Zapier. **TidyCal does not offer configurable webhooks**, so developers who want push events must poll the API. The REST API needs a paid plan, its OpenAPI spec lists 19 operations, and the limit is 60 requests a minute. It creates bookings only for free types. A read-only MCP server lets an AI assistant read bookings and availability but not create or cancel anything. The MCP docs say Pro is required; the help center says any paid plan. Test first.

### AI and analytics

Paid plans can draft a booking type description and suggest up to 3 intake questions with AI. Only booking type details, host name, time zone and language are sent, never booker details, and the privacy policy names OpenAI. Helpful, not transformative. GA4, Google Tag Manager and the TikTok Events API also need a paid plan, while a Meta pixel or Google Ads goes through Tag Manager.

## What TidyCal does not do

The gaps are worth listing plainly, because any one of them can decide the purchase for a particular business, from a coach who works from a phone to a clinic that needs paperwork.

- **No native app.** There is no iOS or Android app; TidyCal runs in the phone browser with a mobile layout [56], and the mobile menu lacks links to Polls, Store and Payments.
- **No deposits, waitlist or gift certificates**, and no file uploads on booking forms.
- **No routing forms** and no built-in Salesforce or HubSpot.
- **No CSV contact import** and no payment test mode.
- **No HIPAA BAA, SOC 2 or SSO.** TidyCal does not sign business associate agreements, its GDPR article mentions no SOC 2 or HIPAA certification, and it offers no SSO or SCIM.

Security covers the basics. Device verification sends a 6-digit code by email and is on by default, but there is no authenticator-app 2FA. Invisible reCAPTCHA v3 guards bookings, and a public DPA and an erasure form support GDPR requests. Therapists who need a BAA should look elsewhere, and TidyCal says so itself.

## Support and what users say

Support runs by email with a typical 8-hour reply, plus an in-app AI assistant that hands off to email. **Phone support? None.** Priority support comes only with Pro, and feature requests go to a public voting board with no promised delivery dates. There is no line to escalate a payment problem while a client is waiting. TidyCal's own pages also contradict each other in places, such as the plan the MCP server needs. Ask support first.

**What users rate it, by platform**

| Platform | Rating | Reviews | As of |
|---|---|---|---|

_Rendered from our current record; these are other platforms' user scores, separate from our own Toolkit Score._

Ratings split by platform, with the software review sites warmer than Trustpilot, whose TrustScore is weighted rather than a plain average. In the 100 most recent Trustpilot reviews we counted 74 five-star and 14 one-star ratings; price came up in 23 of them and support in 15. On AppSumo, a tutoring business noted no phone support but responsive email, and one buyer lost features after upgrading to Agency until support restored them within hours. Recent complaints there target the lifetime changes. Timing matters.

## TidyCal next to Calendly, Cal.com and Acuity

**Calendly** Standard costs $12 a seat a month or $10 billed annually, and Teams $20 or $16, while TidyCal Pro covers unlimited seats for $99 a year. Calendly brings a mobile app, routing and deep CRM links. TidyCal wins on cost. Calendly wins on depth. For a team of four over three years, four Calendly Teams seats billed annually cost $2,304 by our arithmetic, against $79 once for a new Agency Lifetime license or $297 for three years of Pro. A built-in importer brings over Calendly event types and bookings. Our [TidyCal vs Calendly comparison](/articles/tidycal-vs-calendly) goes further.

TidyCal's own comparison pages cover the others. It says **Cal.com** has a mobile app and a self-hosted community edition, while TidyCal is hosted only and not open source. **Acuity Scheduling** has no free plan, with Starter at $20 a month or $16 billed annually, and TidyCal points therapists to Acuity Premium when they need a signed HIPAA BAA. Acuity also offers gift certificates and a waitlist. Neither has an importer into TidyCal.

## How we score TidyCal

The weights come from our scheduling rubric. TidyCal scores best on value for money and ease of use, sits in the middle on capability and sentiment, and is held back on integrations by the missing webhooks and CRM links. Support and docs land lower, and AI is the weakest axis. The reasoning for each axis sits on the card below.

**Our scorecard — 3.6/5**
- Capability & depth: 3.6/5 — Broad for a low-cost scheduler: unlimited booking types and bookings on every plan, recurring bookings, packages, subscriptions with booking credits, coupons, date polls, group bookings up to 10,000 seats per slot, manual approval, cancellation and no-show fees, a digital storefront and a landing-page builder; round robin, collective and managed booking types on Agency Lifetime and Pro. Held back by round robin that assigns only by host priority (no rotation or load balancing), no deposits, file uploads, waitlist, gift certificates or routing forms, paid recurring bookings limited to Stripe, and no way to reschedule a whole series.
- Ease of use: 4.0/5 — A free booking page with no time limit, booking pages in 30+ languages, a Calendly importer that brings event types, bookings and contacts on every plan, and a Capterra ease-of-use rating of 4.0. Held back by no native iOS or Android app, plan limits that depend on the date a lifetime licence was bought, and help articles that disagree on which plan unlocks group bookings, MCP and AI tools on team booking types.
- AI: 2.4/5 — AI generation of booking type descriptions and emails and an AI booking assistant on paid plans (OpenAI per the privacy policy), an AI help chat in support, and a read-only MCP server with OAuth that lets Claude and other MCP clients read bookings and availability. Held back by the MCP server being read-only (it cannot create, change or cancel anything), its plan requirement being contradicted between the MCP docs (Pro) and the help center (any paid plan), and no AI scheduling, routing or meeting notes.
- Value for money: 4.3/5 — The strongest price story in the category: a permanent Free plan with unlimited bookings, paid bookings, recurring bookings and packages; Individual Lifetime at $29 and Agency Lifetime at $79 one-time on AppSumo (60-day refund); Pro at $99 a year with no seat fees. Held back by the 1% Stripe platform fee on Free and lifetime plans, lifetime terms that shrank for new buyers in 2026 (custom domain, Agency seats, calendars and SMS), the October 2026 removal of full branding removal from lifetime plans, and a Pro refund window of only 7 days.
- Integrations: 3.1/5 — Google, Microsoft 365 and iCloud calendars, Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams links, Stripe (with Apple Pay, Google Pay and ACH) and PayPal, Zapier with three triggers, native SendFox, GA4, Tag Manager and the TikTok Events API, a REST API with 19 documented operations at 60 requests a minute, and an MCP server. Held back by no webhooks, no native Salesforce, HubSpot or Mailchimp, no other CalDAV calendars, Zapier and the API on paid plans only, and Zapier sending all booking answers in one field.
- Docs & learning resources: 3.4/5 — 78 help articles with Last updated dates (most September 2026), an llms.txt written for AI assistants, an OpenAPI specification, MCP docs, switching guides for five rivals and 17 industry pages with sample setups. Held back by help articles that contradict each other and the pricing page (group bookings on Free, MCP plan, AI on team booking types), no changelog page (updates live in AppSumo posts and a newsletter), and Terms that still describe paid bookings as a lifetime feature.
- Support & reliability: 3.2/5 — Email support on every plan with a typical 8-hour reply, an AI help chat that hands off to email, priority email on Pro and a public feedback board; GDPR statement, a public DPA and device verification. Held back by no phone or live human chat, priority support missing from both lifetime plans, no SOC 2 or HIPAA BAA, no authenticator-app 2FA, a September 2025 outage compensated with free trials, and support named in 15 of the 100 most recent Trustpilot reviews.
- User sentiment: 3.4/5 — Split between platforms with 30+ reviews (13 October 2026): Capterra 4.6 from 55 and Trustpilot 3.1 from 182, where the TrustScore sits well below a recent sample of 100 reviews (74 five-star, 14 one-star). G2 shows 4.7 from 25 reviews (under 30, not counted) and AppSumo, the owner, 4.3 from 933 (not counted). Axis score 3.4: the mean of each platform owner's displayed rating with at least 30 reviews, weighted by review count (Trustpilot 3.1 (182); Capterra 4.6 (55); 237 reviews in all), with Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice counted once as Gartner.

That lands TidyCal at **3.6/5**: excellent value and a generous Free plan, held back by thin integrations, shifting lifetime terms and support without a phone line.

## FAQ

**Is TidyCal worth it?**

For solo service businesses that want paid bookings, packages and subscriptions at almost no cost, yes. Teams that need CRM sync, webhooks or compliance paperwork should look elsewhere.

**Is TidyCal really free?**

Yes. Free is a $0 plan with no time limit that covers unlimited bookings, booking types and paid bookings with one connected calendar. Stripe payments carry a 1% platform fee, which the client pays at checkout.

**Does TidyCal have an app?**

No. There is no iOS or Android app; TidyCal runs in the phone browser with a mobile layout.

**Is TidyCal HIPAA compliant?**

No. TidyCal does not sign HIPAA business associate agreements and points therapists who need one to Acuity Premium.

**Does TidyCal have webhooks?**

No. TidyCal does not offer configurable webhooks; the alternatives are Zapier or the REST API, both on paid plans, with the API limited to 60 requests a minute.

**What is the difference between Agency Lifetime and Pro?**

Agency Lifetime costs $79 once and, for licenses bought on or after September 1, 2026, covers 4 members, 10 calendars and 10 SMS segments a month with a 1% Stripe fee. Pro costs $99 a year with unlimited members, calendars and SMS, a custom domain, no branding and no platform fee.

## The bottom line

TidyCal delivers most of what a solo service business needs for little or nothing. The Free plan alone handles paid sessions, packages and subscriptions, and Pro at $99 a year removes the fee and the branding. Pick it if you sell sessions, packs or retainers and want to keep costs near zero. Skip it if you need a BAA, webhooks, routing or a phone app. Buy lifetime with open eyes, because its terms changed several times in 2026.
