## The short answer: who should pick which

Pick VEED if your team makes marketing and social video in a browser and wants the widest choice of generative models, avatars and phone editing in one subscription. Pick Descript if your work is spoken word, such as podcasts, interviews and tutorials, and you want to edit by rewriting the transcript, record remote guests and publish straight to YouTube. On price, VEED has the lower annual entry: Creator costs $12.25 per editor seat a month billed annually ($147 a year), or $25 billed monthly.[1] Descript's Hobbyist plan costs $16 a month billed annually or $24 monthly, for one seat.[2] Both bill every editor. The seat rules decide the team bill.

The skip signals are just as concrete. Skip Descript if your editors work from phones: it has no mobile editing, only viewing and publishing, while VEED runs on iOS and Android with one account across web and mobile. Skip VEED if publishing is a daily chore, because it has no direct publishing to YouTube or TikTok, so every export is downloaded and uploaded by hand. Skip both self-serve tiers if you need more than five editors; each vendor sends that size to a custom-priced Enterprise plan. Reviewer ratings for both appear below, and we read them as a signal about daily use rather than a verdict, because the two tools serve different jobs.

## What a team actually pays

Both vendors charge per editor, but the counting rules differ. On VEED, every workspace member is a paid seat: the owner, each collaborator and every pending invite.[3] The editor caps are ceilings, not included seats. Removing a collaborator refunds nothing; the unused time becomes a credit on the next invoice. Descript's Creator plan costs $24 a month per person billed annually or $35 monthly, for up to 3 seats. Descript's Business plan costs $50 a month per person billed annually or $65 monthly, for up to 5 seats. Removing a Descript editor keeps billing until you lower the seat count.

### The bill at one to five editors

Here is the bill by our arithmetic, matching features rather than plan names. Without 4K, a solo editor pays $147 a year on VEED Creator against $192 on Descript Hobbyist. On monthly billing the order flips: Descript Hobbyist at $24 a month is $1 cheaper than VEED Creator at $25. Two or three people push a Descript team onto its Creator plan, because Hobbyist has one seat. Three editors then pay $441 a year or $75 a month on VEED Creator, against $864 a year or $105 a month on Descript Creator. The catch is resolution. Descript Creator includes 4K, while VEED starts 4K at Pro.

Matching 4K changes the result. Three editors cost $795 a year or $135 a month on VEED Pro, against $864 a year or $105 a month on Descript Creator. For a solo editor who needs 4K, that is $265 a year on VEED Pro against $288 on Descript Creator, but $45 a month against $35 on monthly billing. At four or five editors the matching plans are VEED Studio and Descript Business: five seats cost $2,325 a year or $395 a month on VEED, against $3,000 a year or $325 a month on Descript. So annual billing favors VEED at every size from one to five, and monthly billing favors Descript once 4K or a fourth editor enters the picture.

> 💡 **Clear pending invites before upgrading:** VEED bills every pending invite as a seat, so remove stale invites from the workspace before moving to a paid plan.

## Editing by text: a mode in VEED, the whole idea in Descript

Descript's core is editing video by editing its transcript, with Underlord (Descript's help center still labels it beta and warns it can get things wrong) layered on top as an agent. VEED offers the same idea as Edit with Script, a mode above its multi-track timeline that turns the clip into an interactive transcript where deleting words cuts the matching video. Filler words such as ums and ahs go with one click, and any selected passage exports as its own clip. **Edit with Script works on every plan**, including Free, so the text workflow itself costs nothing to test. Removing silences by a duration you choose is different: Free gets one try per account, and paid plans get unlimited use.

The limits show where VEED's version is narrower. It supports only languages that separate words with spaces, and you cannot reorder footage by dragging transcript text; rearranging still happens on the timeline. AI Rephrase, which regenerates a spoken line in the original speaker's voice from typed text, runs inside Edit with Script on paid plans and costs AI credits. For one-click cleanup, Magic Cut removes mistakes, repetitions, pauses and filler words, and it is fully available on Free for English. If your editors think in timelines and cut by text only sometimes, VEED's mode is enough. If they think in paragraphs, Descript fits better.

## Generative AI against an editing agent

VEED's bigger advantage is the breadth of generation. Its AI Playground runs third-party models such as Google Veo, Kling, Seedance and Sora 2, next to VEED's own Fabric 1.0, which turns an image plus audio into a talking video. The VEED AI dashboard goes from a prompt to an editable script to a finished video. Stock avatars cover 70+ characters speaking 80+ languages, and dubbing reaches 29 target languages with one voice for all speakers. Descript also generates video and offers AI avatars, but its AI story centers on Underlord inside the editor, plus dubbing into 30+ languages. VEED leads on generation. Descript leads on editing.

Generation runs on AI credits, and the allowance is thin at the bottom. VEED's Creator plan includes 500 credits a month, Pro 2,500 and Studio 15,000, or 6,000, 30,000 and 180,000 a year on annual billing. Veo 3.1 costs 310 credits a generation, so by our arithmetic Creator's monthly 500 cover one clip. Fabric costs 8 credits a second at 720p, which comes to 240 for a 30-second clip. Credits never roll over, and a result you dislike is still charged, so heavy generation belongs on Pro or Studio. On the web, more credits means a higher-credit variant of your plan rather than a one-off top-up.

> 💡 **Price a Veo clip before buying:** Veo 3.1 costs 310 credits a generation on VEED, so compare the cost on the Generate button with your plan's monthly credit allowance.

## Recording, phones and publishing

For recording remote guests, Descript has the clearer tool. **Rooms records up to 10 participants remotely**, and Descript runs as a desktop app as well as in the browser. VEED has no remote-guest studio. Its recorder lives in the browser only: screen, camera, audio or slides, with a teleprompter and a cap of 60 minutes per recording on every plan. Save before closing the tab. An unsaved recording is lost if the window closes before you click Edit or Finish. For a solo screencast or a talking-head update, VEED's recorder does the job. For a three-guest interview show, Rooms is the tool built for it.

Phones flip the advantage. VEED has iOS and Android apps, with Android live on the Play Store since 21 September 2026, and one account carries projects and subscription across web and mobile. Descript has no mobile editing; on a phone you can view and publish only. Publishing reverses it again. Descript exports directly to YouTube, while VEED has no direct publishing at all. Instead, VEED gives you hosted share links where colleagues leave timestamped comments, plus custom embeds from Pro. A social team posting daily feels that missing step. A team that reviews in links and posts weekly barely notices it.

> ⚠ **Removing a VEED seat refunds nothing:** The unused time becomes a credit on your next VEED invoice; on Descript, billing continues until you lower the seat count.

## Refunds, free plans and the fine print

VEED offers a Free plan rather than a trial; its only free trial is for Enterprise, with at least 3 users. VEED Free exports carry a hardcoded watermark at 720p, exports stop at 10 minutes and uploads at 1 GB per file, and after upgrading you re-export from the original project to lose the mark. Descript Free gives 1 media hour a month, 100 one-time AI credits and 720p exports with a watermark. Both free tiers are fine for testing transcript editing. Neither suits client work. VEED's privacy policy says content uploaded on Free through the web is used to improve its products, including training AI models, which our [VEED safety guide](/articles/is-veed-safe) covers.

Refunds differ sharply. Descript refunds within 48 hours, or 7 days for added seats. **VEED gives no refund once you have used the service**; consumers who never uploaded, edited or subtitled anything and cancel within 14 days get a full refund.[4] Cancelling, downgrading or deleting a VEED account never refunds, so treat a VEED purchase as final the moment you upload; our [VEED pricing guide](/articles/veed-pricing) has the full billing rules. VEED's USD prices are its default market; local prices differ, and India is annual-only. Test on Free first, then buy the smallest plan that covers your editors and resolution.

## FAQ

**Does VEED or Descript offer a student or nonprofit discount?**

Descript lists EDU and nonprofit pricing at $8 per person a month billed annually or $12 billed monthly. VEED has no nonprofit or student discount; education buyers get bespoke faculty-wide plans through sales.

**Can VEED collaborators get view-only or limited access?**

Below Enterprise, every VEED collaborator is a full editor with the owner's editing rights. Project Viewer invites, which open a single project, are free, and VEED's Studio plan adds one reviewer role.

**Do VEED's editor plan credits cover its API?**

No. The VEED API is billed separately with prepaid credits at api.veed.io, where $1 buys 100 credits in top-ups of $10 to $1,000.

**Which one has stronger security paperwork?**

Descript states SOC 2 Type II. VEED says it is SOC 2 compliant, with the report available through its trust center, and keeps SSO and DPAs for Enterprise.

## The bottom line

Choose VEED if your team edits in a browser, wants the widest range of generative models and avatars plus phone apps, and can pay annually: it is cheaper than Descript at every team size from one to five on annual billing, by our arithmetic. Choose Descript if the work is spoken word, guests record remotely in Rooms, and you want direct YouTube publishing or monthly billing with 4K or more than three editors. Before you buy either, count every editor, including VEED's pending invites, decide the billing period, and check whether you need 4K. Those three answers settle the price.
