A video hosting platform stores your videos, streams them in the right quality to every viewer, and gives you a player to embed on your own site. For a business, hosting alone is not the solution. A complete setup has five parts: a player you control, privacy, viewer data, a way to capture leads, and pages search engines can read. Two tools in our catalog, Vimeo and Wistia, cover all five on paid plans. Others cover some of the parts well, which is often enough when combined.

**2 of 6** — tools we compared that cover all five parts of business video hosting

- **5** — parts of a complete setup: player, privacy, data, leads, findability
- **3 GB** — shared by embeddable videos on Vimeo Free
- **200 GB** — monthly bandwidth on Wistia Free before embeds stop

## What a complete video hosting platform has to cover

Start with the job, not the brand. A video on a pricing page has to play fast, look like part of your site, and tell you who watched. A training video has to stay away from the wrong people. A podcast clip has to be found. Each of those is a different part of the same problem, and most video hosting services handle some parts far better than others.

| Part | What it means on your site | Covered fully by |
|---|---|---|
| Player you control | No ads, your branding, no outside suggestions at the end | Vimeo, Wistia |
| Privacy | Passwords, domain restrictions, hidden from public search | Vimeo, Wistia, Riverside (domains) |
| Viewer data | Plays, watch time, drop-off, heatmaps | Vimeo, Wistia, Riverside |
| Lead capture | A form or call to action inside the player | Vimeo, Wistia, Riverside |
| Findability | Structured data and a page Google can index | Vimeo, Wistia |

The first part is where free routes fall short. YouTube's embedded player still shows related videos when playback ends; since 2018 the most you can do is keep them to your own channel [1]. That is fine for reach. It is a problem when the video sits next to your Buy button.

Findability depends on your page as much as your host. Google wants a dedicated watch page for each video, where watching that video is the main reason someone visits [2]. **No host fixes a page built the wrong way.** If you are still mapping the basics, our [video hosting guide](/articles/video-hosting-guide) explains how hosting, streaming and embeds fit together.

> 💡 **Give each key video a watch page:** Build one page per important video, where watching it is the main point. That is what Google needs to show the video in search, whatever host you use.

## Premium video hosting: the two full platforms

These are the tools to look at when video is part of how your business sells, teaches or supports customers. Both are ad-free, both let you swap a file without losing what you built around it, and both put lead capture behind a paid plan.

### Vimeo: control and privacy, step by step up the plans

Vimeo is ad-free on every plan. Its Free plan works for a first test, but embeddable videos share 3 GB and you get no password, no domain privacy and no player customization. Starter adds those, plus unlisted links and engagement analytics with heatmaps, retention and drop-off. Standard adds player branding, custom calls to action and lead forms inside the player that sync with HubSpot, Mailchimp, Salesforce or Marketo. Vimeo also generates video schema markup on [embeds](/articles/vimeo-embed) automatically.

### Vimeo — solves this

Hosts your videos ad-free and lets you lock embeds to your own domains, customize the player and see heatmaps and drop-off per video. From Standard, in-player forms collect leads without redirecting viewers and sync them to HubSpot, Mailchimp, Salesforce or Marketo.

1. Upload and set privacy to Embed only or password
2. Add your domains to embed privacy
3. Turn on lead capture in the player (Standard)

- Where it stops: Free: embeddable videos share 3 GB, with no password, domain privacy or player customization.
- Plan: Starter for domain privacy and player customization; Standard for lead capture
- How Vimeo does it: [Embed Vimeo on your site](https://professionalstoolkit.com/articles/vimeo-embed)

### Wistia: built for marketing teams that live in a CRM

Wistia's player is ad-free and lets you replace a file without changing the embed code. Captions, chapters, password protection, domain restrictions and a Privacy Mode come with the player. [Embeds](/articles/wistia-embed) are SEO and LLM-friendly: the transcript loads as plain HTML, with JSON-LD metadata. Business unlocks forms, calls to action, A/B tests, heatmaps and removes Wistia branding. Business + Signals pushes viewing data into contact records in HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot.

### Wistia — solves this

Gives you an ad-free player with captions, chapters, password protection and domain restrictions, and loads the transcript as plain HTML for search. On Business, forms, calls to action and A/B tests run inside the player.

- Where it stops: Free shows Wistia branding on the player and stops embeds after its monthly bandwidth until reset.
- Plan: Business for lead capture, heatmaps and no branding; Business + Signals for CRM contact sync
- How Wistia does it: [Embed Wistia on your site](https://professionalstoolkit.com/articles/wistia-embed)
- More: [Wistia](https://professionalstoolkit.com/tools/wistia)

The difference is emphasis. Vimeo goes deeper on control at the top end, with DRM, geo-blocking, data residency and SSO-gated viewing on Enterprise. Wistia goes deeper on marketing, with A/B tests and lead scoring tied to your CRM. Both are real hosts. Pick by priority.

## Business video hosting when you already record or edit somewhere

Plenty of teams already pay for a recording or editing tool. Before adding a host, check what that tool already does with a finished video. Some can embed it with real analytics. Others only give you a share link. The gap matters.

### Riverside: for podcasts and interview shows

If your show is recorded in Riverside, you may not need a second platform for embeds. From Grow, you can [embed a video or episode on your site](/articles/riverside-for-podcasters), with analytics on plays, play rate and a retention curve. The embed code never changes, and deleting the original recording does not break a live embed. Domain restrictions come with Grow; hiding the Riverside logo and lead capture need Business. Storage is unlimited only on Business; on Pro, Grow and Webinar, videos are archived after two years.

### Riverside — partly solves this

Embeds the episodes and videos you record in Riverside on your site with an embed code that never changes, and reports plays, play rate and a retention curve.

- Where it stops: Free has no embeds (they start at Grow); on Pro, Grow and Webinar videos are archived after two years.
- Plan: Grow for embeds and analytics; Business for lead capture and hiding the logo

### VEED: when the editor is your home base

VEED gives every video a share link with comments. Embedding starts on Pro, and branded video hosting sits on Studio. That makes VEED a reasonable place to publish short marketing clips you made there. It is not a full business host: our data shows no viewer analytics, lead forms or password-protected pages, and deleting the account breaks every embed.

### VEED — partly solves this

Publishes videos you edit in VEED to a share link with comments, and gives you an embed player for your site.

- Where it stops: No viewer analytics or lead forms in our data; deleting the account breaks every embed.
- Plan: Pro for embeds; Studio for branded video hosting
- More: [VEED](https://professionalstoolkit.com/tools/veed)

> ⚠ **Your embeds depend on your account:** With some tools, embeds stop when the account ends: deleting a VEED account breaks every embed, and a lapsed Vimeo plan restricts videos above the Free allowance. Export your library before you cancel anything.

## Share pages are not hosting: Descript and HeyGen

Two tools in our catalog produce a link you can send or embed, but neither is a video host. Treat them as the last step of production, not the home of your library.

Descript turns a project into a share page with the video, its transcript and comments, plus HTML embed code with an optional start time. Access can be public, link-only or limited to logged-in project members. Analytics stop at a total view count. Descript itself says it does not do video hosting, and long videos on a share link drop to audio-only past the plan's length limit. Its strength here is publishing directly to YouTube or Wistia.

### Descript — workaround

Turns a finished project into a share page with the transcript and comments, plus HTML embed code, or publishes it straight to YouTube or Wistia.

- Where it stops: Not a video host: analytics are a view count, and videos past the web-link length limit become audio-only.
- Plan: Business for custom branding on share pages and embeds
- More: [Descript](https://professionalstoolkit.com/tools/descript)

HeyGen opens every generated video on a share page, which you can publish so anyone can watch without signing in. You get reactions, timestamped comments and insights on views, average watch time and completion rate. For training, it exports SCORM packages that update automatically while HeyGen hosts the video. It only covers videos made in HeyGen, though. Your filmed library needs a home elsewhere.

### HeyGen — workaround

Opens each video made in HeyGen on a share page you can publish for anyone to watch, with comments and watch-time insights, and exports SCORM packages that update while HeyGen hosts the video.

- Where it stops: Covers only videos made in HeyGen; Free videos are watermarked.
- Plan: Creator for no HeyGen branding

## Combinations that cover the whole problem

A single platform is rarely the cheapest or simplest path. These pairings each split the job where it naturally breaks.

1. **YouTube for reach, a dedicated host for your site.** Publish the public version on YouTube to be found there. Embed the same video from Vimeo or Wistia on your product pages, where you want no outside suggestions and want to know who watched.
2. **Descript to edit, Wistia to host.** Edit by transcript in Descript, then publish straight to Wistia. Your library, analytics and lead forms live on the host; the editor stays an editor.
3. **Riverside to record, its embed to publish.** For a podcast, Grow gives you embeds and analytics without a second tool. Add a dedicated host only when you need findability features our data does not show for Riverside.
4. **A free plan first, a paid plan at the trigger.** Start on Vimeo Free or Wistia Free. Move up the day you need a lead form or your own branding on the player (and, on Vimeo, a password).

Small teams testing the idea can go further on free tools than most expect. Our walkthrough of [free video hosting](/articles/free-video-hosting) shows exactly how far an unlisted YouTube embed and a Google Drive link will take you.

> 💡 **Upgrade at a trigger, not a hunch:** Write down the feature that would make you upgrade: a password, a lead form, your own branding. Stay on the free plan until you need that exact thing.

## How to choose a video hosting platform for business

Answer these in order. The first *yes* usually decides it.

1. **Do viewers need to become leads?** Pick Wistia Business or Vimeo Standard. Riverside Business is the option if your content is a show you already record there.
2. **Is the video confidential or licensed?** Vimeo Starter gives passwords and domain privacy. For DRM, geo-blocking or SSO-gated viewing, look at Vimeo Enterprise.
3. **Is it a podcast or interview series?** Riverside Grow covers embeds and analytics where you already record.
4. **Is it training inside an LMS?** HeyGen's SCORM export fits AI-made lessons; for filmed courses, a full host gives you better privacy.
5. **Is it a quick clip for a social post or a client review?** A share link from VEED or Descript is enough. Don't buy a host for it.

Then check the ceiling before you commit. Wistia Free stops playing embeds once you pass its monthly bandwidth, until the reset. Vimeo can ask for an upgrade or suspend playback above the bandwidth threshold on its paid self-serve plans. Know which ceiling you will hit first.

## FAQ

**What is the best video hosting platform for business?**

The one that covers the parts your site needs. For lead capture and CRM data, Wistia Business or Vimeo Standard; for privacy and access control, Vimeo from Starter up to Enterprise.

**Are video hosting services better than YouTube for a business website?**

For pages that sell, usually yes. A dedicated host gives you an ad-free player, your branding and viewer data, while YouTube keeps related videos at the end of embeds. Many teams use YouTube for reach and a host on their own site.

**What does premium video hosting add over a free plan?**

Mostly control and data. On Vimeo, password and domain privacy, player customization and heatmaps start at Starter, and in-player forms with CRM sync at Standard. On Wistia, heatmaps, in-player forms and a player without Wistia branding start at Business.

**Can I host videos on my own web server instead?**

You can, but you then handle encoding, adaptive streaming and delivery yourself, and every viewer uses your bandwidth. A hosting platform does that work and gives you an embed code.

## The bottom line

The right video hosting platform is the one that covers the parts of the problem your site actually has. For most businesses that means a dedicated host: Vimeo when control and privacy lead, Wistia when lead capture and CRM data lead. Riverside and VEED can carry part of the load if you already work in them. Descript and HeyGen hand off a link, not a library. Pair a production tool with a host, start on a free plan, and upgrade at the moment you need leads, your own branding or (on Vimeo) passwords.
