**3.8 / 5** — Our Toolkit Score for Vimeo: a controllable ad-free player and strong privacy, held back by per-seat ambiguity, bandwidth limits and metered AI.

- **$12/seat/mo** — Starter, billed annually
- **2TB a month** — bandwidth threshold on Starter, Standard and Advanced
- **20 Nov 2026** — Vimeo On Demand shuts down

## The verdict, in one line

Vimeo is a video host for people who want their videos to look professional and stay under their control. You upload once, then share through an ad-free player that you can brand, lock to your own domains, hide from Vimeo itself or put behind a password. Around that core sit review links for client feedback, a screen recorder, a light editor, AI captions and translation, and, from the Advanced plan up, live events and webinars. **It is a strong pick for marketing teams, agencies, trainers and filmmakers.** The catch is the fine print. Prices are labelled per seat, bandwidth has a threshold, AI translation runs on credits, and several of Vimeo's own pages contradict each other.

Vimeo has also changed hands. Bending Spoons, the group that also owns Brightcove, StreamYard, WeTransfer, Evernote, Meetup and AOL, completed its purchase of Vimeo in November 2025. Since then the product has been trimmed and tuned rather than reinvented: a faster library, a simpler review flow, new privacy controls and a more generous Free plan, alongside the removal of Vimeo Messages and the closing of On Demand.

## Who Vimeo is for, and who should skip it

Vimeo fits best where **video is part of the brand and the audience is chosen, not found**. A marketing team embedding product demos on its own site gets a clean player with no ads and no suggested videos from strangers. An agency sends cuts to clients through review links and collects time-coded comments. A training team hosts courses once and embeds them in a learning system. A filmmaker shares a password-protected screener with a festival. Large companies add single sign-on, internal-only privacy and compliance paperwork on Enterprise. The supermarket chain Coles runs 40 team seats on it, and Ivanti says single sign-on stopped videos being scraped from its intranet.

The wrong fit has to do with *what you want the video to do*. If you want to be discovered, YouTube's search and recommendations reach an audience Vimeo was never built to supply, and in the EU and UK Vimeo no longer even lets people browse other users' videos. If you want to sell a course or a film, the self-serve route Vimeo offered is closing, as the next section explains. If you need to stream live on a small budget, nothing below Advanced can do it. And if you need built-in A/B testing of videos, a marketing-first host is the closer match, though Vimeo does show engagement heatmaps and drop-off points.

> 💡 **Use Embed only for site videos:** On a paid plan, set videos you embed on your own pages to Embed only and add domain-level privacy, so they play on your site and nowhere else.

## What changed in the past year

### A new owner and a shorter product list

After the Bending Spoons deal, Vimeo's new lead, Marco Castello, set out the plan in March 2026: one or two small improvements to the core product every week, better reliability, and separate roadmaps for Enterprise and streaming customers. The results so far are incremental but real. Review links no longer require a Vimeo login, privacy can be changed in bulk for a whole folder, and the library was rebuilt for speed, with the homepage loading up to 41% faster in Vimeo's own testing. The other side of a new owner is pruning: Vimeo Messages disappeared on 15 April 2026. Two closures came before the deal. Livestream.com broadcasting ended on 3 February 2025, and Vimeo Stock stopped selling clips that April.

### On Demand is closing, and the new plans are arriving

**Vimeo On Demand, the self-serve way to rent or sell videos, shuts down on 20 November 2026.** New subscriptions and renewals stopped on 21 September 2026, and when the service closes, viewers lose access to titles they bought [1]. Vimeo points sellers to Vimeo OTT, now also called Vimeo Streaming, which charges per subscriber and per sale. Meanwhile the Free plan was rebuilt on 7 October 2026, though the new version is not currently available in Italy and Austria, and the help center describes a new lineup of Creator, Core, Professional and Studio plans that is being rolled out gradually to some accounts. The public pricing page still sells Starter, Standard and Advanced, so check what your own account shows before you budget.

## What you pay: plans, seats and the fine print

The pricing page sells a Free plan, three self-serve tiers and a quoted Enterprise plan. We read it from the United States, in US dollars and before tax, on October 18, 2026 [2]. Some older Vimeo pages still show other figures. Ignore them. The grid below follows the live page, and the sections after it explain the parts that the grid cannot show, starting with seats:

| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Seats included | Storage |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | 3 GB for embeddable and non-public videos |
| Starter | $12 per seat a month | $20 per seat a month | 1 | 2TB |
| Standard | $25 per seat a month | $41 per seat a month | 5 | 4TB |
| Advanced | $75 per seat a month | $125 per seat a month | 10 | 7TB |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Contact sales | Custom | Custom |

> ⚠ **Confirm the seat total at checkout:** The pricing page labels prices per seat and lists included seats but never states the checkout total. Check it before paying, since the refund window on the initial purchase is 14 days on annual and 3 days on monthly billing.

### Per seat, but how many seats?

The pricing page labels every price per seat per month and lists the seats each plan includes, yet it never states the total that appears at checkout for those included seats. Confirm that number before you pay. Any paid plan can add seats up to 200, pro-rated for the rest of the billing cycle, and larger teams need Enterprise. Annual billing saves about 40% against monthly. By our arithmetic, per seat, a year of Standard paid month by month comes to $492 against $300 billed annually, a year of Starter to $240 against $144, and a year of Advanced to $1,500 against $900; these are per-seat figures, not plan totals. Standard also shows a weekly option at $14.99 a week.

### What each step adds

Starter is the solo plan: privacy controls, player customization and 2TB of storage. The Free plan page lists chapters and version history on Free, while older pages put them on Starter. Standard is where marketing teams land, with player branding, third-party player support, a brand kit, text-based editing, the AI script generator and lead capture. Advanced adds the live tools, AI summaries and chapters, and marketing integrations with HubSpot, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Keap and Campaign Monitor. Enterprise has no published price and renews in 12-month terms unless the order form says otherwise.

### Refunds, trials and discounts

Refunds are self-serve but short, and they cover only the initial purchase: within 14 days of an annual one or 3 days of a monthly one [3]. Renewals, trial conversions, add-on seats bought later and AI credits are not refundable, and plans renew on their own. Free trials exist, often seven days, and an uncancelled trial turns into a charge. US 501(c)(3) nonprofits get 25% off, and verified US students and teachers get a one-time code. For the full plan math, read our [Vimeo pricing guide](/articles/vimeo-pricing).

## Why bandwidth, not storage, sets the ceiling

Storage is the number people compare, but bandwidth is the limit that bites. Starter, Standard and Advanced carry a 2TB monthly bandwidth threshold, whatever their storage (Enterprise bandwidth is custom) [4]. Streaming does not stop when you cross it. Instead, Vimeo contacts accounts that pass 2TB in a month at least twice in 12 months, or 10TB in a single month, and gives them seven days to reach a resolution. Without one, Vimeo can require an upgrade or suspend playback, which means your videos stop playing everywhere they are embedded. Vimeo says more than 99% of users never reach the threshold.

That reassurance is fair for most teams, but it shifts the planning. A company with a viral campaign or a large customer base watching long videos can outgrow Advanced on bandwidth alone, even with storage to spare. On the public pricing page, the only way past the threshold is Enterprise, where bandwidth is custom; the Studio plan some accounts see lists yearly bandwidth with no monthly cap. Plan for that early. Watch the bandwidth report, which can lag three to four days, before a big launch rather than after.

## Where Vimeo is strong: the player, privacy and review

### A player built for your site, not Vimeo's

The player is the reason most buyers come. It plays up to 4K with HDR and Dolby Vision, carries no ads, and meets the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard. Paid plans can hide the Vimeo logo, the play bar and other controls, and since mid-2026 turn off the share button and right-click menu on any embed. A custom logo starts at Standard. Multiple subtitle tracks and audio tracks sit in the player menus. From Standard up, third-party player support lets you play Vimeo-hosted files in another player. Together, those controls decide how a video looks on your own pages, not on Vimeo's.

### Privacy that matches real use

Privacy is the second strength. A video can be public, private, unlisted, password-protected or set to **Embed only**, the setting formerly called Hide from Vimeo, which keeps a video off Vimeo while it plays on your site. Domain-level privacy restricts embeds to the sites you approve. On Enterprise, folder presets apply default privacy, embed and download settings to new uploads, and a separate setting lets only signed-in colleagues watch. Vimeo also says it does not train generative AI on customer videos, Free accounts included. That matters to agencies holding client footage.

### Review, recording and editing

Vimeo Review turns any video into a feedback page with time-stamped comments you can resolve, and reviewers no longer need an account. Free allows one review link per video, with expiry up to a month out; Vimeo's help center puts more links from Standard up, and passwords on review links need a paid plan. On paid plans, review feedback syncs with Adobe Premiere Pro. Record Studio captures camera, screen or both in the browser, up to 120 minutes on paid plans and 30 minutes on Free; from Standard up it adds an AI script writer and teleprompter. The editor is light. Keep expectations modest. It exports at 1080p at most, so heavy editing still belongs elsewhere.

> 💡 **Send review links, not files:** Vimeo Review gives clients time-stamped comments without a Vimeo account. Free allows one review link per video, Vimeo's help center puts more links from Standard up, and password-protected links need a paid plan.

## Live events and AI, and what each one costs

### Live starts at Advanced

Live events and webinars begin at Advanced; no plan below it can broadcast. Advanced runs two concurrent events of up to 12 hours each, with up to 100 registrants per event and seven guest speakers. It adds simulcasting to 10 integrated destinations plus 20 custom RTMP targets, DVR, simulive, chat, Q&A and polls, a Livestream Studio license, and around-the-clock chat support for live-streaming issues. Live captions now cover 99 languages. Enterprise with the Events add-on lifts the limits to three concurrent events and more than 100 registrants (the pricing page shows 500+, the help center up to 500 per event), and 4K live streaming is a further add-on.

### AI that bills by the minute

Vimeo AI is broad. Transcripts and captions are automatic. Advanced adds summaries and chapters, and on select Enterprise plans viewers can ask the player questions and jump to the answer. Translation is the metered part. Subtitles in 36+ languages cost 10 AI credits per minute per language, and live auto captions have cost 10 credits a minute since 1 June 2026. Audio dubbing in 29 languages is an Enterprise feature, at 20 credits a minute per language. Paid plans get 250 free credits, granted once, that expire after 30 days; Free and trial accounts get none. By our arithmetic, that covers 25 minutes of subtitle translation into one language. Credits cannot be pre-bought and are not refundable.

## Enterprise: security, compliance and the sales call

Enterprise is a different product sold through sales, and it carries most of what IT and legal teams ask for. It adds single sign-on and SCIM provisioning, audit logs, DRM, geo-blocking, data residency in the US or the EU, an enterprise CDN for internal town halls and a 99.9% uptime commitment. Vimeo shares its SOC 2 Type II report under an NDA. Healthcare buyers should note that a HIPAA business associate agreement is available on Enterprise only, with its own configuration rules. Enterprise also unlocks the AI API, interactive video, branded OTT apps, phone support and an account manager.

Two cautions apply. Enterprise payments are non-cancelable and outside the self-serve refund policy, so the contract is the real commitment. And Workspaces, which split one organization into teams with their own libraries, is an add-on even at this level. Every live feature on Enterprise, from webinars and backup streams to the Live and webinar APIs, also needs the Events add-on. Get these in writing, along with the bandwidth allowance and any AI credit allocation. Enterprise credits renew yearly. Unused ones do not roll over unless the contract says so.

## Support, documentation and what users say

Written support runs around the clock, seven days a week. Vimeo's own estimates for a first response are 2 hours on Advanced, 6 on Standard and 8 on Starter, while Free accounts usually hear back within three business days. **Phone support? Enterprise only.** For a team running a live webinar on Advanced, the chat channel for live-streaming issues is the one to remember.

The documentation is large, with more than a thousand help articles and a developer site that now covers an MCP server in public beta. Its weakness is consistency. Many help pages still use legacy plan names such as Basic, Plus, Pro and Premium, several product pages still say the Free plan holds 1 GB, some marketing pages show older prices, and one product page gives refund windows of 30 and 5 days. When pages disagree, trust the pricing page and the newest help article.

**What users rate it, by platform**

| Platform | Rating | Reviews | As of |
|---|---|---|---|

_Rendered from our current record; these are other platforms' user scores, separate from our own Toolkit Score._

The card above shows the platform ratings with their dates, so we keep the numbers out of the prose. In our score, sentiment sits among the lower axes, mainly because the Android app, whose ratings mix people who only watch with paying customers, carries most of the rating weight. A viewer's complaint about an app says little about the business tools. Read the reviews with that in mind. Ask whether each complaint concerns the product or the bill.

## Vimeo next to Wistia and YouTube

**Wistia** is the closest rival for marketing teams. Its Business tier is $79 a month billed annually or $99 billed monthly, with 3 seats, 250 GB+ of storage and 1 TB of bandwidth (its table states no period), and extra seats at $25 each. Wistia leans harder into marketing with A/B testing, plus webinars sold as separate plans that include Business and Signals, and AI dubbing in more than 50 languages paid in credits (800 credits a minute), and it gives no refund on cancellation. Vimeo offers far more storage per plan, 2TB to 7TB against Wistia's starting 250 GB, though its own live events start only at Advanced. Our [Vimeo vs Wistia comparison](/articles/vimeo-vs-wistia) covers the details.

**YouTube** is built for reach. Its own help pages say that its systems and human reviewers may review private videos for ad suitability and copyright, that uploads cap at 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less (15 minutes until the account is verified), and that channels outside its Partner Program may see ads without earning a share. Vimeo takes files up to 300GB and 24 hours, runs no ads, and keeps viewers on your site. Plenty of teams use both: YouTube for discovery, Vimeo for the embeds on their own pages.

## How we score Vimeo

We read the pricing page from the United States on October 18, 2026, more than a thousand help center articles, the legal terms, the developer documentation, the product and customer pages and the Vimeo blog, and we checked each claim against the page that supports it. We did not buy a plan or host real videos on Vimeo. The score weights our video rubric, and the reasoning for each axis sits on the card below.

**Our scorecard — 3.8/5**
- Integrations: 4.0/5 — Automatic uploads from Zoom, Webex and Google Meet, Slack, Adobe Premiere Pro, Google Drive, Dropbox and Box imports, marketing integrations on Advanced (Constant Contact, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Keap, Campaign Monitor) and Marketo on Enterprise, simulcasting to 10 integrated destinations plus 20 custom RTMP endpoints, a public REST API with OAuth 2.0 and resumable uploads on every plan, a Player SDK, embed presets and an MCP server in public beta. Held back by the Live API, webinar API and AI API being Enterprise-only, Free accounts needing a manually reviewed request for API uploads, and Vimeo's public OpenAPI repository archived since December 2023.
- Capability & depth: 4.0/5 — Ad-free hosting and a player up to 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision, privacy controls (password, unlisted, embed domain lists up to 50 domains, embed only), version history that keeps the URL, time-coded review links, unlimited screen recording on paid plans, an in-browser editor and teleprompter, live events with simulcast, DVR and simulive, webinars with registration, Vimeo OTT for subscription channels, and an Enterprise tier with SSO/SCIM, DRM, data residency and eCDN. Held back by live streaming only from Advanced, 2 concurrent events and 100 registrants per event below Enterprise, editor exports capped at 1080p, interactive video and branded TV apps Enterprise-only, and products being retired: Vimeo On Demand shuts down on 20 November 2026, Livestream.com broadcasting ended in February 2025 and the Android TV, Fire TV and Roku apps were discontinued in June 2023.
- Value for money: 3.6/5 — A Free plan that since October 2026 keeps public videos (embedding off) unlimited and gives 3 GB for embeddable and non-public videos, no ads on any plan, Starter at $12 per seat a month billed annually ($20 monthly) with 2TB, about 40% off for annual billing, 25% off for US 501(c)(3) nonprofits and a one-time code for verified students and teachers. Held back by live events starting at $75 per seat a month billed annually ($125 monthly), a pricing page that labels prices per seat without stating the checkout total for included seats, AI translation paid with credits (10 credits a minute per language; the 250 free credits on paid plans are granted once and expire after 30 days), a 2TB monthly bandwidth threshold above which Vimeo can ask for an upgrade or suspend an account, and short refund windows (14 days annual, 3 days monthly, none on add-ons).
- Ease of use: 3.6/5 — Upload, record, edit, share and embed in one place, replace a file without breaking links, Zoom and Meet recordings arriving on their own, and review links that need no viewer account. Held back by buying decisions that are hard to read: Vimeo's own pages quote three different price sets ($12/$25/$75, $13/$26/$76 and older figures), many help and product pages still use retired plan names (Plus, Pro, Business, Premium), new individual plans (Creator, Core, Professional) are being rolled out to some accounts while the pricing page shows another lineup, and in the EU and UK Vimeo no longer promotes or lets people browse other users' videos.
- AI: 3.8/5 — Automatic captions in about 99 languages, transcripts, AI subtitle translation, AI audio dubbing in 29 languages (Enterprise) with voice cloning, an AI script generator and teleprompter (Standard and up), AI summaries and chapters (Advanced and up), Ask AI and highlight reels on Enterprise, an MCP server in public beta and an AI API launched for Enterprise in April 2026; Vimeo says it does not train generative AI on customer videos and names its providers (Azure OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Google Cloud). Held back by the strongest features (Ask AI, editable dubbing, the AI API, highlight reels) sitting on Enterprise and by per-minute credits for translation on the self-serve plans, with no credits on Free.
- Support & reliability: 3.7/5 — SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 reports, ISO 27001 and 27701, HITRUST i1, PCI DSS and TX-RAMP listed on the trust center, a HIPAA BAA and EU data residency on Enterprise, published first-response targets for self-serve plans (Advanced 2 hours, Standard 6, Starter 8, Free about 3 business days), chat support during live events on Advanced, and phone support with a 99.9% uptime SLA on Enterprise. Held back by email-only support below Advanced, an ownership change (Bending Spoons acquired Vimeo in November 2025) followed by product shutdowns, and low-star Trustpilot reviews about pricing, renewals, account access and support.
- Docs & learning resources: 3.5/5 — About 1,270 help-center articles, most updated in 2025-2026, developer documentation with upload guides and an API reference, monthly «What's new» posts and enterprise update posts. Held back by help and product pages that contradict each other on plan names, prices, storage, refund windows and which plan includes live captions, and developer pages that still list the On Demand API without the shutdown notice.
- User sentiment: 3.5/5 — Reviewers on business-software sites rate it well (G2 4.3 from 722), the iOS app holds 4.45 from 11,811 ratings and the Android app 3.4 from about 140K; Trustpilot shows 2.8 from 1,724 reviews, whose low-star themes are pricing and renewals, account access and support (Trustpilot collects mostly unhappy customers, so this is a map of complaints, not a trend). Gartner Peer Insights 4.3 from 25 is too few to count. Axis score 3.5: the mean of each platform's displayed rating with at least 30 reviews, weighted by review count (4.3, 4.45, 3.4, 2.8 = 3.48); the Android app carries most of the weight and mixes viewers with paying customers.

That puts Vimeo at **3.8/5**, the first product we have scored in video. It is strong on capability and integrations and solid on AI. It is held back by per-seat pricing ambiguity, the bandwidth threshold, metered translation and pages that disagree with each other. None of those are deal-breakers. All of them reward a careful buyer, and they explain why a product with this player does not score higher.

## FAQ

**What is Vimeo used for?**

Vimeo hosts videos and plays them in an ad-free player you can brand and restrict to your own sites. Businesses, agencies, trainers and filmmakers use it for embeds, client review, private sharing and, from Advanced up, live events and webinars.

**Is Vimeo free?**

Yes, there is a Free plan, though the new version is not currently offered in Italy and Austria. Since 7 October 2026 it allows unlimited public videos with embedding off, plus 3 GB for embeddable and non-public videos, but no password protection, domain privacy, player customization, live streaming or AI credits.

**How much does Vimeo cost?**

On the public pricing page, Starter is $12 per seat a month billed annually or $20 billed monthly, Standard $25 per seat a month billed annually or $41 billed monthly, and Advanced $75 per seat a month billed annually or $125 billed monthly; confirm the checkout total for the included seats. Enterprise has no published price, and some accounts are being shown a new plan lineup, so check yours.

**Who owns Vimeo now?**

Bending Spoons, which completed its acquisition of Vimeo in November 2025. The same group owns Brightcove, StreamYard, WeTransfer, Evernote, Meetup and AOL.

**Can I sell videos on Vimeo?**

Not through Vimeo On Demand much longer: it stopped new subscriptions and renewals on 21 September 2026 and shuts down on 20 November 2026. Vimeo points sellers to Vimeo OTT, also called Vimeo Streaming.

**Does Vimeo offer refunds?**

On self-serve plans, yes, for the initial purchase only: within 14 days of an annual purchase or 3 days of a monthly one. Renewals, trial conversions, later add-on seats, AI credits and App Store purchases are not refundable, and Enterprise contracts are non-cancelable and outside this policy.

## The bottom line

Pick Vimeo if you want an ad-free, brandable player with real privacy controls and a clean way to collect feedback, whether you are a marketing team, an agency, a trainer or a filmmaker. Start on Standard if branding and lead capture matter, and move to Advanced only when you need live events, webinars or the marketing integrations. Confirm the checkout total for your seats, watch bandwidth before a big launch, and budget AI credits for translation beyond the one-time 250. Skip Vimeo if you want discovery, need a cheap live stream, or planned to sell through On Demand, which shuts down on 20 November 2026.
