**4TB vs 250 GB** — Storage on Vimeo Standard against Wistia Business, the plans a small marketing team usually compares.

- **5 vs 3 seats** — included on Vimeo Standard and Wistia Business
- **2 months+** — minimum notice before term end, per Wistia's terms, to stop auto-renewal
- **14 / 3 days** — Vimeo refund windows, first annual or monthly purchase only

## Two hosts with different centers of gravity

Vimeo and Wistia both host business video in an ad-free player, and both sell paid plans to marketing teams. The resemblance is real, but the weight sits in different places. **Wistia is built around the marketing funnel**: forms inside the video, heatmaps per viewer, webinars that sync to your automation platform, and a mid tier, Business + Signals, named after the lead signals it sends to sales. Vimeo is built around the video library: privacy dials down to the domain, review links for clients, a recorder and editor, live events from Advanced, and a storefront through Vimeo OTT. Both now chase AI translation and dubbing, priced in very different ways.

The companies differ too. Vimeo has been owned by Bending Spoons since November 2025, and its pricing page sells per-seat plans with one, five or ten seats included. Wistia, Inc. is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and sells a flat-rate team plan with three seats included, a Signals tier above it and a custom Enterprise plan. We read each vendor's own pricing, product and legal pages, and used nothing from either side's comparison posts about the other.

**What users rate it, by platform**

| Platform | Rating | Reviews | As of |
|---|---|---|---|

_Rendered from our current record; these are other platforms' user scores, separate from our own Toolkit Score._

The ratings above describe Vimeo. We read them as a check on how its paying customers feel about support and value rather than as a verdict on Wistia, which scores 3.84 on our Toolkit Score. Wistia shows its own review badge on its homepage, and teams that want a like-for-like view should read both vendors' reviews from the same months. Ratings drift as plans change. Weigh recent reviews over old ones.

## What a small marketing team actually pays

Vimeo labels every price per seat per month. **Standard is $25 per seat a month billed annually ($300 a year), or $41 billed monthly**, with five seats included and 4TB of storage.[1] Starter is $12 per seat a month billed annually or $20 billed monthly, with one seat and 2TB. Advanced is $75 per seat a month billed annually or $125 billed monthly. It includes ten seats and 7TB. Enterprise has no published price. The pricing page does not state a checkout total for the included seats, so confirm the total at checkout before you commit, and remember that any paid plan can add seats up to 200.

Wistia prices its main plan as a flat rate for a small team. Wistia Business is $79 a month billed annually, or $99 a month on monthly billing, and it includes three seats.[2] Extra users cost $25 a month each on annual billing, or $31.25 on monthly billing. Business + Signals, the tier that pushes viewing data to sales and marketing tools, is $329 a month billed annually or $412 billed monthly. Enterprise is custom priced. The Free plan is $0 with 25 GB of storage, one user and Wistia branding on the player.

### The arithmetic for a five-person team

By our arithmetic, the annual price of that team plan comes to $948 a year, against $1,188 if you pay $99 every month, a gap of $240. A five-person team needs two seats beyond the three included, at $25 each on top of the plan. Each extra user adds $300 a year to the $948 on annual billing, by our arithmetic. On the other side, paying Standard month to month for a year comes to $41 times 12, or $492, against $300 billed annually. Those are per-seat figures. Ask for the full quote on both sides.

> 💡 **Price the team, not the plan:** Count the people who need a seat before comparing. Vimeo Standard includes five seats and Wistia Business three, and both charge for extra seats, so confirm both checkout totals.

Two more things shape the bill. Vimeo is testing a new plan lineup on some accounts, so check what your own account offers before you compare, and treat any older figures on Vimeo's marketing pages as outdated. Both vendors offer free trials of their paid plans, and Wistia says its trial needs no credit card. Our [Vimeo pricing guide](/articles/vimeo-pricing) covers the per-seat rules, discounts and seat add-ons in more depth.

## Storage and bandwidth: where each one draws the line

Vimeo gives more room on every paid tier. Storage runs 2TB on Starter, 4TB on Standard and 7TB on Advanced, and every file can be up to 300GB and 24 hours long, though the help pages advise staying within 200GB. The Free plan changed on 7 October 2026: public videos with embedding turned off get unlimited storage, while embeddable and non-public videos share 3 GB. **Bandwidth is the real ceiling.** Starter, Standard and Advanced have 2TB a month; Enterprise is custom. Vimeo contacts accounts that pass it repeatedly, gives them 7 days, and can then require an upgrade or suspend playback. It also says over 99% of users never reach the threshold.

Wistia counts storage tighter and says so plainly. Business starts at 250 GB, Enterprise at 1 TB, and everything in the account counts toward the limit, including recordings, clips and webinar recordings. More storage can be prepaid or billed by usage. The pricing grid lists bandwidth of 200 GB on Free, 1 TB on Business and Signals and 2 TB on Enterprise. A team with a large archive of raw footage will feel Wistia's caps first. A team with a few hundred polished marketing videos may never notice them.

## The player, branding and the page it lives on

Both players are ad-free, and both handle 4K. Vimeo hosts up to 4K with HDR and Dolby Vision. Its paid plans can hide the Vimeo logo, the play bar, the volume control and the fullscreen button in the embed. Standard adds player branding, a custom watermark, a brand kit and fonts, and support for third-party players. Privacy is where Vimeo goes furthest. Unlisted, Password and Embed only need a paid plan, and embeds can be limited to up to 50 approved domains. Embed only, renamed from Hide from Vimeo on 13 July 2026, keeps a video off vimeo.com while letting it play on your site.

Wistia sells speed and search. It says its Aurora player was rebuilt to cut its size by nearly 70%, to about 43kb, and that the player meets WCAG 2.1 AA. Embeds are responsive by default and carry structured data aimed at search engines and AI tools. Channels turn a set of videos or podcasts into a branded gallery, each video with its own indexable page, and can gate a series behind an email form. Business removes Wistia branding; Free keeps it. *If the video page itself has to rank,* Wistia has put more work there.

## Turning viewers into leads

This is Wistia's home ground. Business includes CTAs and forms inside the video, and the Automation Suite, Webinars and Webinars Plus are add-ons that require Business. Wistia lists HubSpot, Adobe Marketo Engage, Salesforce Pardot, Oracle Eloqua, ActiveCampaign and Klaviyo among its marketing platforms. Signals connects video engagement to HubSpot, Marketo and Pardot, and HubSpot or Pardot can show individual viewing data on a contact card. Sales alerts can fire when someone watches a set share of a video.

Vimeo covers more than the basics and gates the rest. Lead capture forms and custom cards and CTAs arrive on Standard. Its HubSpot help page lists Standard and higher for the connection, the Advanced plan lists marketing integrations with Constant Contact, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Keap and Campaign Monitor, and the HubSpot Media Bridge brings viewer-level watch data into HubSpot from Advanced. The deeper links sit on Enterprise: the Marketo integration needs Enterprise with the webinar feature, and Mailchimp viewer data and event-attendee analytics inside HubSpot are Enterprise-only. *For a team whose job is pipeline,* that gating matters more than any single feature.

### Analytics on each side

Wistia's analytics are built for marketers. Heatmaps show what each viewer watched, rewatched and skipped, A/B tests compare two thumbnails, videos or versions, and conversion reports cover CTAs, links and email forms. Vimeo's analytics climb with the plan. Engagement heatmaps run on every video with analytics enabled, Free reports views by country, device and source, and help pages disagree on whether region and city reports start on Free or Starter. Advanced adds live and post-event analytics, and Enterprise adds viewer-level analytics on showcases and webinars. **A/B testing is the clear gap: Wistia lists it, and Vimeo's pages we read do not.** Wistia's Free plan lists basic analytics only, so check which Wistia plan carries heatmaps and A/B tests.

> ⚠ **Wistia refunds nothing on cancellation:** Wistia's terms give no refunds or credits for cancellations, downgrades or unused time, and they ask for notice at least 2 months before the term ends to stop auto-renewal, while its pricing FAQ says self-serve plans can be cancelled any time. Check which applies to your plan.

## Webinars and live events

Vimeo keeps live streaming on Advanced and above, and nothing below it can go live. Advanced includes 2 concurrent events of up to 12 hours each, 100 registrants per event and 7 guest speakers, with DVR, simulive, Q&A, polls, chat and a Livestream Studio license. Simulcast sends one event to 10 integrated destinations plus 20 custom RTMP destinations. Enterprise with the Events add-on raises the limits to 3 concurrent events and registration beyond 100: the pricing page shows 500+, the help center up to 500 per event. Our [Vimeo live streaming guide](/articles/vimeo-live-streaming) walks through the setup.

Wistia sells webinars as separate plans that include Business and Signals, with a 14-day trial. The pricing render we read did not show webinar prices, so ask for them. There is no limit on the number of webinars, and up to nine people can be on stage at a time. Attendance, drop-off, chat and poll data sync to your automation platform in real time. One limit matters early. Hosts and panelists cannot join from mobile devices and need a Chromium-based desktop browser, while the audience can watch on any device.

## AI translation, dubbing and captions, and what they cost

Both vendors transcribe automatically. Wistia transcribes every upload for captions and offers professional, human-reviewed captions as an upgrade. Vimeo includes automatic captions and transcripts on every plan, Free included, and Advanced adds AI summaries and chapters. The cost difference starts with translation. **Vimeo bills AI translation in AI credits, and only paid plans get them**: subtitle translation costs 10 credits a minute per language, translation with dubbing 20, and live automatic captions 10 since 1 June 2026.[3] Audio dubbing itself is an Enterprise feature. Paid plans get 250 free credits once, and they expire after 30 days. Free and trial accounts get none, and credits cannot be pre-bought in bundles or refunded.

Wistia prices dubbing in credits, at 800 credits a minute. The first 15 minutes are free, then it costs $2 a minute per language, and its pricing page lists dubbing as an add-on on Business and Signals. Dubbing covers more than 50 languages with voice cloning and lip-sync, and translation works from the editable transcript, not the audio. Dubbed versions cannot be downloaded; only the original language can. Vimeo's dubbing, on Enterprise, covers 29 languages, and subtitle translation more than 36.

### A worked example

Take one 10-minute video dubbed into three languages, which is 30 minutes of dubbing. At the per-minute rate, after the 15 free minutes, the other 15 minutes at $2 come to $30. On Vimeo, where dubbing is Enterprise-only, 10 minutes times three languages times 20 credits is 600 credits. They come out of the yearly AI credit allocation in the Enterprise contract, and Vimeo publishes no dollar price per credit, so ask sales how many credits your contract includes. Both sides treat started AI work as final. Vimeo credits are not refundable, and Wistia's terms make asset-level services such as dubbing non-cancelable once they begin.

> 💡 **Estimate dubbing minutes first:** Multiply video minutes by the number of languages before you start. Vimeo offers dubbing on Enterprise only, at 20 AI credits a minute per language, while Wistia's dubbing add-on is paid in credits at 800 credits a minute, after one free test dub.

On data use, Vimeo says it does not train generative AI on customer videos, Free included, and names Microsoft Azure OpenAI, ElevenLabs and Google Cloud as providers. Wistia's AI policy lists Amazon Bedrock, Deepgram, HeyGen and OpenAI, warns customers not to share protected health information with AI tools, and its terms say you may not own all rights in AI-generated content. Both connect to AI assistants through MCP servers: Wistia's works on all accounts for owners and managers, and Vimeo's is in public beta, with its help page naming the legacy Pro plan while its January 2026 post opens it to anyone with a Vimeo plan.

## Recording, editing and review

Vimeo's Record Studio runs in the browser and captures camera, screen or both, up to 4K on Starter and above since January 2026. Recordings can run 120 minutes on paid plans and 30 minutes on Free. A Chrome extension opens the same studio, the mobile app records on phones, and the old Record desktop app is no longer available for new installs. Standard and above get an AI script writer with the teleprompter. Review is a Vimeo strength. Review links go to people without an account or seat, with time-coded comments, and Free gets one review link per video.

Wistia's recorder leans toward interviews. Its virtual recording studio is included on every plan, Free too. Audio and video are recorded separately per participant, so you can download each speaker's track for editing, and each track saves locally and backs up to the cloud. The desktop app runs on macOS only, with no Windows version yet. Wistia's editor, available on all plans, cuts by deleting transcript text and removes silences automatically. Reviewers need only a link and a browser, and comments land frame by frame on the timeline.

## Security, contracts and the fine print

Enterprise is where both vendors put their security. Vimeo Enterprise adds SSO and SCIM, DRM, geo-blocking, data residency in the US or EU, audit logs, a SOC 2 Type II report, a HIPAA BAA, an enterprise CDN and a 99.9% SLA, and its agreements renew in 12-month terms unless the order form says otherwise. Wistia keeps SSO and Video Playback Protection on Enterprise, shows a SOC 2 badge, and adds team accounts for each department or brand. Neither vendor puts these controls on its entry plans.

The refund rules are where the two part ways. **Vimeo refunds self-serve within 14 days of an initial annual purchase or 3 days of an initial monthly one**, with no refunds for renewals, trial conversions or add-ons such as AI credits and seats added later. Seats bought with the first plan are refunded too. Wistia gives no refunds or credits for cancellations, downgrades or unused time.[4] Its pricing FAQ says you can cancel any time unless you are on Enterprise or signed an order form, yet its terms want 2 months' notice before the term ends to stop renewal. Ask which rule governs your plan. On an annual contract, *put that date in the calendar the day you sign.*

## Who should pick which

Pick Wistia if video is a marketing channel measured in leads. A/B tests, per-viewer heatmaps, in-video forms, deep links to marketing automation and webinars built to feed a nurture flow are its center of gravity, and the Signals tier exists to hand those signals to sales. Accept tighter storage, flat team pricing, and a contract that refunds nothing and, in its terms, wants two months' notice before renewal. Both vendors charge for seats beyond the included ones.

Pick Vimeo if video is a library you manage. It offers far more storage, privacy down to the domain, client review links, a browser recorder, live events from Advanced and a storefront through Vimeo OTT. For sellers, Vimeo On Demand stopped new purchases and renewals on 21 September 2026 and shuts down on 20 November 2026, and Vimeo points them to OTT. OTT is priced apart: $1 per subscriber a month plus 2.5% and $0.30 in card fees when Vimeo processes payment, 10% plus $0.50 per one-off sale, and paid upload-hour packs past the first free hour for direct OTT uploads. Our [Vimeo AI guide](/articles/vimeo-ai) covers its credit system in detail.

## FAQ

**Is Vimeo or Wistia better for marketing?**

For lead generation, Wistia goes deeper: in-video forms and CTAs on Business, the Signals tier, A/B tests and per-viewer heatmaps (check which Wistia plan includes them), plus webinar plans whose data syncs to marketing automation. Vimeo has engagement heatmaps, lead capture from Standard and HubSpot watch-data sync from Advanced, but keeps Marketo and HubSpot event-attendee analytics on Enterprise.

**Which has more storage, Vimeo or Wistia?**

On paid plans, Vimeo: 2TB, 4TB or 7TB, while Wistia Business starts at 250 GB and Enterprise at 1 TB, with recordings and clips counting toward the limit. On the free plans Wistia gives 25 GB, while Vimeo Free gives 3 GB for embeddable or non-public videos.

**Do Vimeo and Wistia both host webinars?**

Yes. Vimeo includes live events and webinars from Advanced, and Wistia sells webinars as separate plans that include Business and Signals, with a 14-day trial.

**Can I get a refund from Vimeo or Wistia?**

Vimeo refunds self-serve within 14 days of an initial annual purchase or 3 days of an initial monthly one; renewals, trial conversions and add-ons such as AI credits are not refunded. Wistia's terms give no refunds for cancellations, downgrades or unused time.

**How do Vimeo and Wistia charge for AI dubbing?**

Vimeo offers AI audio dubbing on Enterprise only, billed at 20 AI credits a minute per language; Free and trial accounts get no credits. On Wistia dubbing is an add-on on Business paid in credits (800 credits a minute), with one free test dub per account.

**Does Wistia have a free plan?**

Yes, at $0 with 25 GB of storage, one user, basic analytics and Wistia branding on the player.

## The bottom line

Vimeo and Wistia solve the same hosting problem for different owners. Wistia suits the marketing team that judges every video by the leads it produces: its A/B tests, per-viewer heatmaps, Signals tier and webinar syncs are built for that job, and its dubbing runs on one credit balance. Vimeo suits the team that manages a large library across marketing, clients and training: more storage, finer privacy, review links, live events from Advanced and refund windows that Wistia does not offer. Check each vendor's checkout total, and read Wistia's renewal notice before you sign.
