Yes, Wistia can host and distribute both audio and video podcasts. Any Channel can switch on podcasting, and Wistia then builds the RSS feed for you to submit to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music and other directories. Audio travels everywhere. Video is selective, because Spotify rejects video episodes in an RSS feed. The free plan costs $0 with 25 GB of storage and Wistia branding, while Business is $79 a month billed annually or $99 billed monthly, per account with 3 users included. **Wistia fits a brand or B2B show** that lives on the company site and feeds leads. A hobby show chasing downloads pays for marketing tools it never uses.

**$79/mo** — Wistia Business, billed annually per account with 3 users: no branding on the podcast Channel.

- **3000 x 3000 px** — Square show art Wistia's podcast setup asks for (other help pages accept 1400 px)
- **48 hours** — Typical Apple Podcasts approval, per Wistia
- **26 GB** — Largest single file Wistia accepts

## Turning a Channel into a podcast feed

A Wistia podcast is a Channel with podcasting enabled. The Channel stays a branded gallery you can embed on your site, and the same episodes flow into an RSS feed that Wistia generates under Podcast Settings. Owners, Managers and Standard Users can all set this up. The feed needs square show art of at least 3000 x 3000 pixels, an owner name and email that directories such as Apple use to verify ownership, up to three categories, and a format: serial, episodic, or episodic with seasons. Distribution starts once at least one episode is published.

Episodes come from a fresh upload, from media already in the account, from a webinar recording, or from a whole folder synced to the Channel. Each carries podcast metadata: full, trailer or bonus type, season and episode number, an explicit flag, and a switch that hides it from the feed. New episodes start as drafts, published at once or on a schedule. **Automatic publishing does not work on podcast Channels.** Every episode needs a manual or scheduled release. Audio uploads accept MP3, WAV, AIF, AU, M4A and OGG; Wistia recommends MP3 with AAC at 44.1 kHz in stereo, and a single file must stay under 26 GB.

Moving an existing show takes one field. You paste the old feed URL, and Wistia imports the files, artwork, show notes and metadata while the original feed stays untouched. Past analytics do not come along, so download them from the old host first. Leaving later works too: Wistia support sets up a 301 redirect to your new host if you open a ticket with the Channel link and the new RSS URL. Our [Wistia Channels guide](/articles/wistia-channels) covers the gallery side of the same feature.

> 💡 **Hide video before submitting to Spotify:** Spotify cannot validate a Wistia feed with MP4 video episodes. Switch on hide-from-feed for each video episode first, and match the feed email to your Spotify account email.

> ⚠ **No automatic publishing on podcasts:** Auto-publish cannot be turned on for a Channel with podcasting enabled, so each episode must be published by hand or on a schedule.

## Apple, Spotify and YouTube: where video episodes break

Audio episodes go everywhere the feed is accepted. Video is the fork in the road. Apple Podcasts takes video episodes, and Wistia says Apple usually approves a new submission within 48 hours, with episode artwork between 1400 x 1400 and 3000 x 3000 pixels. Spotify is the opposite case: it cannot validate a feed that contains MP4 video episodes, so you hide every video episode before submitting, and video on Spotify requires hosting with Spotify itself [1]. A common Spotify feed error clears once the Channel has an overview description and the feed email matches your Spotify account email.

YouTube is a third pattern. When it ingests an RSS feed, it publishes even video episodes as audio over a static thumbnail. Wistia's own advice is to upload video podcasts to YouTube directly. Its publish-to-social tool can push a video there, provided a Google account owns or manages the YouTube channel and titles stay under 100 characters. So a video show realistically runs on two tracks. The full feed serves Apple, and direct uploads serve YouTube.

Timing is mostly outside Wistia's control. Spotify and Apple usually pick up new episodes within a few hours, occasionally up to 24, and edits to a published episode can take several hours to reach Apple. iHeartRadio can take up to 14 business days to approve and Pandora four to six weeks; both are submitted on their own sites and never appear in Wistia's Distribution tab. Replacing an episode file updates the folder, Channel, feed and every embed at once.

## Recording and editing episodes in the browser

Recording happens in Wistia's recording studio, which replaced the Soapbox extension shut down on 1 September 2024. It runs in the browser, and a desktop app exists for macOS only. Wistia says **each participant is recorded locally on separate audio and video tracks** that you can download, with backups on the device and in the cloud [2]. Guests join through a link and must enter an email first. The host controls start, pause, restart and layouts such as Tile, Overlay and Spotlight. Reusable host and guest links can sit in a recurring calendar invite.

Interrupted sessions are recoverable, with conditions. A participant gets an emailed link that must be opened on the same device and browser within 30 days. Until then, the episode is built from lower-quality cloud backups and its layout is locked. Downloading the final file or the separate feeds as a zip needs an Owner or Manager role, or manage permission on the folder. Plan the recovery step into your workflow, because a guest on a borrowed laptop may never reopen it.

The editor handles audio-only files, trims silence at the start and end with one click, offers AI silence and filler removal, and works on recordings up to four hours long. Automated transcripts, at roughly 95% accuracy, are free on every plan and double as show notes. **AI social clips work only on video files** of at least one minute with a Wistia-generated transcript, so an audio-only show cannot use them. Each clip costs 50 credits. By our arithmetic, the free plan's one-time 3,000 credits cover 60 clips in total, while 5,000 monthly credits on Business cover 100 clips a month if nothing else draws on the pool.

> 💡 **Upload video episodes to YouTube directly:** YouTube turns RSS episodes into audio over a static thumbnail. Publish the video itself to YouTube, directly or through Wistia's publish-to-social tool, which needs a Google account that owns or manages the channel and titles under 100 characters.

## What the podcast analytics count, and what they miss

Channel analytics report total plays, total time played and the top five episodes, split between plays on Wistia and plays in podcast apps. A podcast play follows the IAB definition: more than one minute streamed, or a fully downloaded episode. App figures update hourly, and time played in outside apps is an estimate built from episode length and download counts [3]. Heatmaps exist only for plays in the Wistia player. A listener in Apple Podcasts never produces one.

Spotify is the blind spot. Wistia's podcasting page promises Apple and Spotify numbers in one dashboard, but the help center says Spotify plays are never included, because Spotify re-hosts episodes on its own servers. Trust the help center. If Spotify is your largest audience, its own dashboard is the only count you get. Your Wistia totals will then understate the show, so read them as a floor for growth trends rather than as audience size.

Lead capture is narrower for audio. Wistia Forms and HubSpot forms cannot be attached to audio episodes, and Email Campaign tracking links do not work with podcast episodes. What works is the Channel's Subscribe button: signups land in a CSV-exportable list and can sync to a connected marketing list, though Wistia reports no open or click rates on its notification emails. Engagement data on contact records in HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot needs Signals, which plain Business does not include.

> ⚠ **Spotify plays are not counted:** Wistia Channel analytics never include Spotify plays, because Spotify re-hosts the episodes. Check Spotify's own dashboard for that audience.

## What a podcast costs on Wistia

| Plan | Price | What a podcaster gets |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 25 GB storage, 1 user, 3,000 one-time credits, 200 GB bandwidth a month, Wistia branding |
| Business | $79 a month billed annually, or $99 billed monthly | 250 GB+ storage, 3 users, 5,000 credits a month, 1 TB bandwidth a month, no branding, CTAs and forms |
| Business + Signals | $329 a month billed annually, or $412 billed monthly | Business plus marketing-automation engagement sync and lead scoring |

Prices are per account, not per seat. A team bigger than three pays for extra users at $25 a month each on annual billing or $31.25 on monthly. By our arithmetic, a four-person crew pays $104 a month on annual billing, or $1,248 a year, and $130.25 a month on monthly billing. Storage beyond the plan is billed monthly in blocks even on annual plans, starting at 100 GB for $12 a month on annual billing. On the free plan, embeds stop playing a few days after the 200 GB monthly bandwidth limit until the reset. A show that takes off outgrows Free fast.

Wistia has no paywall, so paid or premium episodes are off the table. Cancellations, downgrades and unused time are never refunded; the [Wistia pricing guide](/articles/wistia-pricing) covers renewal and overage rules [4]. A live show streamed to an audience is a separate decision: the Webinars plan costs $429 a month billed annually and adds 500 attendees and 90-minute streams. Recording a closed session with guests needs only the studio, which every plan includes. Start there.

## Who should host a podcast here, and who should not

Wistia earns its price when the podcast is a marketing asset. The Channel sits on your site with a branded, ad-free player, subscribers become a list, transcripts become pages, and clips feed social. Custom domains for Channels need Enterprise, and even then the RSS feed stays on its Wistia URL. A creator who wants Spotify video, Spotify play counts or paid episodes should look elsewhere. Riverside, for comparison, bundles recording with its own podcast hosting from its Pro plan, and adds a website and newsletters from Grow. Riverside Pro costs $35 a month billed monthly or $24 a month billed annually.

## FAQ

**Can I submit a Wistia podcast to iHeartRadio and Pandora?**

Yes, but on their own sites, not from Wistia's Distribution tab. iHeartRadio can take up to 14 business days to approve and Pandora four to six weeks.

**What happens to my podcast if I delete the Channel?**

Deleting a Channel is permanent: it removes the Channel analytics and the podcast distribution, while the media files stay in their folders. Deleting a single episode also erases its analytics.

**Can I put my Wistia podcast on my own domain?**

Custom domains for Channels need the Enterprise plan or a legacy Premium plan, and the podcast RSS feed stays on its Wistia URL even then.

## The bottom line

Wistia is a capable podcast host for companies, not for creators chasing reach. Feed setup is quick, imports keep your subscribers, the studio records separate local tracks, and transcripts, plus social clips for video episodes, come built in. The limits are specific: video episodes must be hidden for Spotify, YouTube needs direct uploads, Spotify plays never reach your dashboard, and audio episodes cannot carry forms. Test the feed on the free plan first. Move to Business at $79 a month billed annually once branding or the 200 GB bandwidth cap gets in the way.
