# Zendesk Review 2026: Plans, AI Meter, Gates and Contract Terms

> Zendesk review: a service platform, not a CRM. Plans from $19 per agent per month billed annually, the AI resolution meter, plan gates and contract terms.

---

Zendesk is a customer-service platform, not a CRM: tickets, messaging, voice, a help center and AI agents, sold per agent. Zendesk's pricing page lists Support Team at $19 per agent per month billed annually ($25 billed monthly), Suite Team at $55 ($69 monthly) and Suite Professional at $115 ($149 monthly).[1] The top plan is quote-only through sales. Every agent seat is paid, so the bill grows with headcount; our [Zendesk pricing guide](/articles/zendesk-pricing) works through team sizes. Our verdict: strong depth for teams that need SLAs, routing and several channels, but the useful gates start on Suite Professional. Small email-only teams can buy cheaply. Everyone else should budget for the middle plan.

**3.9 / 5** — Our Toolkit Score for Zendesk: deep service platform, demanding contract terms.

- **$19** — Support Team, per agent per month billed annually
- **5 / 10** — Automated resolutions included per agent a month (Team plans / Suite Professional)
- **30 days** — Notice before term end to stop auto-renewal

## What Zendesk is, and what it is not

Zendesk calls its product the Resolution Platform: one system for customer service and for internal service such as IT and HR. Under that name sit ticketing, messaging and live chat, voice, email, social channels, a help center, AI agents and reporting in Explore, with quality assurance and workforce management sold as add-ons. Zendesk says it was named a Leader in Gartner's 2025 Magic Quadrant for the CRM Customer Engagement Center, and that label confuses buyers. **Zendesk is not a CRM.** Customer records from Salesforce, HubSpot or Zoho reach tickets through integrations, not through a sales pipeline inside Zendesk.

The confusion has a history. Zendesk Sell, a separate sales CRM, retires on 31 August 2027, and its data is deleted when the subscription ends or on that date, whichever comes first.[2] Zendesk points Sell customers to Pipedrive. So if you came looking for deal stages and forecasting, look elsewhere. If you came for a help desk, read on. The Salesforce integration syncs tickets to Salesforce on every current plan, while the HubSpot integration runs one way only, from Zendesk into HubSpot's contact timeline, so two-way CRM sync needs more work.

> ⚠ **No refunds, no mid-term downgrade:** Charges are non-refundable and seat or plan reductions wait for the next billing cycle, so size the team before signing an annual term.

## Support or Suite: the product you actually buy

The first real choice is between Zendesk Support, the ticketing product, and Zendesk Suite, which bundles Support with messaging, voice, a help center, AI agents, Explore reporting and the no-code Action Builder. Support is the cheap entry; Suite is where most service teams end up, because customers now expect chat and a searchable knowledge base alongside email. The four current plans on the pricing page read like this, each priced per agent per month.

> **About these prices:** Prices shown are what Zendesk lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT. Check your current price — Zendesk: https://api.colosus.site/go/zendesk?to=pricing

| Plan | Price per agent per month | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Support Team | $19 billed annually, $25 monthly | Email ticketing, triggers, automations, macros, views, routing |
| Suite Team | $55 billed annually, $69 monthly | Messaging and live chat, voice, one help center, omnichannel routing |
| Suite Professional | $115 billed annually, $149 monthly | SLAs, skills routing, ticket forms, custom reports, community, up to 5 help centers |
| Suite Enterprise | Quote only | Custom roles, audit logs, sandboxes, group SLAs |

By our arithmetic, a year per agent costs $228, $660 and $1,380 on annual billing, against $300, $828 and $1,788 when you pay monthly for twelve months. Zendesk labels annual billing 20% off; the real saving works out to about 24%, 20% and 23% per plan. Five agents on the entry plan come to $95 a month, or $1,140 a year, billed annually. The rendered pricing page shows only the annual figures, so check which billing column any quote uses before you compare it.

Support Team is narrower than its price suggests. It is email ticketing only: no messaging or live chat, no help center, no voice, and only public social channels such as Facebook and X. **Suite Team is the cheapest plan with chat, phone and a knowledge base.** Plans such as Suite Growth, Enterprise Plus and Support Professional still appear in help articles for existing customers, yet none of them sits on the pricing page for new buyers.

> 💡 **Decide overage or pause early:** When included automated resolutions run out, admins either allow pay-as-you-go overage or pause AI agents. Set it before launch so the bill or the queue does not surprise you.

## The AI pieces, and the meter behind them

Zendesk sells three different AI things, and reviews often blur them. **AI agents** are the customer-facing bots on messaging, email and voice, and they are included in every plan. In March 2026 Zendesk announced it was folding its Essential and Advanced tiers into one offering, so the separate Advanced add-on is no longer needed. Copilot is the agent-side assistant, with suggested replies and macros, summaries, auto assist and intelligent triage in workflows. Admin Copilot helps administrators with recommendations and AI-built flows, at no extra cost from Suite Professional upward.

The catch is the meter. AI agents bill per automated resolution, meaning a conversation the bot closes without handing it to a human. Zendesk's pricing page lists 5 included resolutions per agent per month on Support Team and Suite Team and 10 on Suite Professional, up to 10,000 a year, then $1.50 each committed ahead or $2.00 each pay-as-you-go. Included resolutions do not roll over. At the limit, admins either allow overage or pause the bots, which sends new requests to live agents. Assisted escalations, where a human finishes the job, do not count against the allowance.

By our arithmetic, ten agents on the middle plan get 100 resolutions a month, so a month with 300 bot-closed conversations leaves 200 extra: $400 pay-as-you-go or $300 committed. Copilot is priced separately at $50 per agent per month, paid yearly, on Professional and higher plans, and it must cover every agent seat. Zendesk does not sell it for chosen agents. Without the add-on, Professional plans still get writing tools and ticket summaries capped at 5 uses per agent a month, pooled across the team, up to 500. Our [Zendesk AI playbook](/articles/zendesk-ai-playbook) covers setup in detail.

> ⚠ **Copilot covers every seat:** The Copilot add-on, $50 per agent per month paid yearly on Professional and higher plans, must be bought for all agent seats, not for chosen agents.

## Where the plan gates bite

Most teams outgrow Suite Team on process, not on headcount. SLA policies, skills-based routing, multiple ticket forms with conditional fields, custom reports with hourly refresh, community forums and customer-portal ticket management all start on Suite Professional. So do multilingual help centers in 40+ languages, up to 100 free light agents, the IVR phone tree and the free Data Center Location option. Suite Team gives you one help center in one language, the default theme without code editing, and Explore Lite dashboards that refresh once a day.

The limits are generous where it counts. Attachments go up to 50 MB on all plans, and automations run hourly on up to 1,000 tickets per automation, with at most 500 active. API calls run 200 a minute on the Team plans, 400 on Suite Professional and 700 on Suite Enterprise. One deadline matters for anyone with integrations. All Support API tokens stop working permanently on 30 April 2027, and accounts created since late July 2026 already cannot use them, so every integration must move to OAuth.

Seat rules shape the bill as much as the plan does. Every agent, admin, the owner and even suspended agents occupy a paid seat, and contributors are free. Light agents take no paid seat; Suite Professional includes up to 100 (Suite Enterprise up to 1,000), while Support Team and Suite Team get them only through an add-on. Adding one Suite seat adds a seat in every Suite product, and seats also raise the account's data and file storage. Marketplace breadth is real: our count of the Marketplace API on 2 November 2026 found 1,823 published listings, 506 of them paid and 55 built by Zendesk itself.

> 💡 **Plan the OAuth move now:** All Support API tokens stop working on 30 April 2027. Move integrations and webhooks that use tokens to OAuth before then.

## Contract, security and sign-in

The contract is where Zendesk is least forgiving. The Customer Agreement renews each term automatically at then-current rates unless notice arrives at least 30 days before the term ends.[3] Charges are non-refundable. You cannot downgrade or cut seats mid-term, because reductions wait for the next billing cycle. After the term you have 30 days to export, and Zendesk starts deleting permanently 90 days after cancellation. Standard Support on Suite plans runs 8-to-5 web and phone in local business hours, five days a week, while 24/7 cover needs a paid Premier plan. Zendesk publishes no uptime SLA for the core service.

Security is a strength. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit, and certifications include SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, ISO 42001 for AI management and FedRAMP Low. Sign-in supports SAML, OIDC or JWT single sign-on, native two-factor authentication by SMS or authenticator app, and IP restrictions.[4] Sessions for team members end after 12 hours, with no opt-out, even mid-call. Health data needs a Business Associate Agreement and an account configured for HIPAA.

On AI and your data, read all the layers. Under the AI Services Addendum you own inputs and outputs, and no LLM provider may use your data beyond providing and securing the service. The trust center says third-party model providers never train on customer data. Zendesk itself does train generic cross-account models on aggregated, sanitized service data, without personal-data fields or attachments, and data-use opt-outs exist.

## How we score Zendesk

We score Zendesk on eight axes, each on its own evidence, and weight them by what drives a help desk decision. Capability, channels and the AI layer weigh heavily in Zendesk's favor. Cost transparency and contract terms pull the other way, because the per-agent price, the resolution meter, the all-seats Copilot rule and the no-refund renewal all add cost or risk that the headline price hides.

**Our scorecard — 3.9/5**
- Integrations: 4.2/5 — On Suite plans email, messaging and live chat through the Web Widget and mobile SDKs, WhatsApp (five numbers included), Instagram, Messenger and other channels through Sunshine Conversations, native voice, the help center and public social (Facebook, X) all land as tickets in one Agent Workspace with omnichannel routing; our count of the Marketplace API on 2 Nov 2026 finds 1,823 published listings (506 paid, 55 built by Zendesk), with Jira, Shopify (16,495 installs), Slack, Microsoft Teams, Klaviyo and TikTok Shop, CRM data from Salesforce (ticket sync on every current plan) and HubSpot; REST APIs at 200, 400 or 700 requests a minute by plan, webhooks with signing secrets and retries, Action Builder, App Builder, ZIS and a built-in MCP client (generally available 10 Aug 2026) that brings outside MCP tools into action flows and AI agents. Held back by Support plans that have no messaging, live chat, help center or private social channels (Suite or separate products needed), API tokens that stop working on 30 Apr 2027 (integrations must move to OAuth; accounts created since 28 Jul 2026 already cannot use them), best-effort webhooks with possible duplicates and a 12-second timeout, a HubSpot integration that is one-way (Zendesk to HubSpot), Salesforce sync without attachments or comments, the High Volume API add-on (2,500 a minute) needing at least 10 agent seats with no published price, and the MCP server app for AI assistants reaching into Zendesk being a third-party Marketplace app by Swifteq.
- Capability & depth: 4.4/5 — A very deep service platform: SLA policies with six metrics, group SLAs (OLAs) and business hours per priority on Enterprise, omnichannel routing by availability and capacity, skills-based routing (10 skill types x 30 skills) and custom queues from Suite Professional, subqueues on Enterprise, triggers and hourly automations, macros, views, custom statuses, side conversations, multiple ticket forms with conditional fields, custom objects (30 on Suite Professional, 50 on Enterprise), light agents (up to 100 on Suite Professional), up to 5 help centers in 40+ languages with community forums and a customer portal, Explore reporting, QA and WFM add-ons, and on Suite Enterprise custom agent roles, audit logs, two sandboxes and approval workflows. Held back by the depth starting at Suite Professional (Suite Team has no SLAs, skills routing, multiple ticket forms, community or multilingual help center), Support Team being email ticketing with no help center, Explore Lite refreshing daily on the Team plans and reports capped at 50,000 rows, automations that run hourly on at most 1,000 tickets per automation and stop when no one has signed in for 14 days, closed tickets archived 120 days after closing, and live dashboards removed on 25 Jan 2027.
- Value for money: 2.9/5 — Zendesk's pricing page lists Support Team at $19 per agent per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly ($228 per agent a year), Suite Team at $55 or $69 ($660), Suite Professional at $115 or $149 ($1,380); Suite Enterprise is quote-only (Talk to Sales). Zendesk labels annual billing 20% off (by our arithmetic annual costs about 24%, 20% and 23% less). Every plan includes AI agents with 5 automated resolutions per agent a month on the Team plans and 10 on Suite Professional (up to 10,000 a year), light agents take no paid seat (up to 100 included on Suite Professional, an add-on on the Team plans), a 14-day trial needs no card and a startups program gives six months of Suite for up to 50 agents. Held back by every agent, admin and suspended agent being a paid seat, no free plan, the SLA, routing and help-center depth a growing team needs starting at $115 billed annually, extra automated resolutions at $1.50 each committed or $2.00 each pay-as-you-go with no rollover, Copilot at $50 per agent per month paid yearly for every agent seat (10 Suite Professional agents: $13,800 a year plus $6,000 for Copilot, our arithmetic), Workforce Engagement at $50 and Contact Center at $83 per agent per month paid yearly, voice minutes and channel fees on top, no refunds, no mid-term downgrade, and renewal at then-current rates.
- Ease of use: 3.4/5 — One Agent Workspace for every channel, macros and views for repeat work, a 14-day trial on Suite Professional with sample data and an AI setup wizard that builds an AI agent, views and fields from your website, Admin Copilot on Suite Professional and above with weekly insights and recommendations applied after admin approval, App Builder apps from plain-language prompts, agent apps for iOS and Android, and an agent interface translated into 28 languages. Held back by a product map a buyer has to untangle (Support vs Suite, AI agents vs Copilot vs Admin Copilot vs Forethought, legacy and off-page plans still named in the help center), messaging replacing Zendesk Chat (deprecated 31 Jan 2028) with a second Web Widget generation, automations that run only hourly, Explore Lite refreshing daily, a help center that starts in setup mode, an API authentication migration to OAuth, and self-service seat or plan reductions that wait for the next billing cycle.
- AI: 4.2/5 — AI agents on every Suite and Support plan for messaging, email, web forms and voice, now one offering with agentic capabilities (generative procedures, multi-step procedures, API actions; the Advanced add-on is no longer needed), resolutions verified by an LLM and Assisted escalations not counted against the allowance, voice AI agents generally available since Sep 2026 in 53 languages, free capped Copilot features on Professional plans (writing tools, ticket summaries, merge suggestions, similar tickets: 5 uses per agent a month pooled, up to 500 an account, pausing at the cap with no charge), intelligent triage classifications, Admin Copilot, generative search in the help center (100,000 searches a month), Zendesk QA scoring every conversation and Forethought standalone AI agents. Held back by the per-resolution meter (5 or 10 included per agent a month, then $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go; AI agents pause at the limit unless overage is allowed), the Copilot add-on at $50 per agent per month paid yearly and only for every agent seat on Professional and higher plans, intelligent triage in workflows and auto assist needing Copilot, voice AI agents adding telephony and $0.005 a minute, legacy Essential agents still being migrated, and Zendesk's Customer Agreement letting it use Service Data to improve its products (generic cross-account models, with opt-outs; third-party LLM providers never train on customer data).
- Support & reliability: 3.2/5 — A broad compliance set (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, 27701 and ISO 42001 for AI management, FedRAMP Low, Cyber Essentials Plus, CSA STAR AI), EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and Binding Corporate Rules, AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2+, breach notice within 48 hours in the DPA, HIPAA under a Business Associate Agreement, data hosting in the US, EEA, UK, Japan or Australia through the Data Center Location add-on (free on Suite Professional and above, on request), a public status page and Standard Support on all Suite plans by web and phone. Held back by no published uptime SLA for the core service (the only published one is the 99.95% Talk usage SLA on Enterprise), Standard Support 8-to-5 in local business hours five days a week with 24/7 only on paid Premier plans, support and no response as the top theme in low-star reviews, data that may move between regions without the add-on, no refunds, no mid-term downgrade or seat reduction, renewal at then-current rates unless notice arrives 30 days before the term ends, and data export only within 30 days after the term ends.
- Docs & learning resources: 3.8/5 — A very large help center and developer site that publish the numbers buyers need: API limits per plan with sub-limits and 429 handling, webhook timeouts, retries and circuit breaker, ticket, comment and attachment limits, automation and trigger limits, help-center and Explore limits, storage per agent, how automated resolutions are counted and what does not consume them, dated announcements for API-token removal, Chat deprecation and theme migration, 75+ self-paced courses, plus a Customer Agreement, DPA, AI Services Addendum and a trust center. Held back by many pages not updated: guides saying Zendesk 'starts at $55', startups pages promising up to two years free, an AI overview calling suggested macros free, a plan-types article with old AI-answer allowances, an older resolutions article, a trial article with a 270-day deletion, comparison pages with outdated rival prices, and help articles that still document Suite Growth, Enterprise Plus and pre-2021 plans buyers cannot pick.
- User sentiment: 4.2/5 — Ratings are high on business-software sites and the App Store: G2 4.3 from 7,120 reviews, Capterra 4.4 from 4,094 (Gartner Digital Markets network, Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice counted once), TrustRadius 4.0 from 1,092 and App Store US 4.52 from 4,228 ratings; Trustpilot 1.7 from 742. Trustpilot collects mostly unhappy reviewers, many of them end customers of companies that use Zendesk, so it is a map of complaints (support and no response, AI and bots, cancellation, price increases, account access, contracts, billing), not a trend. Axis score 4.2: the mean of each platform's displayed rating with at least 30 reviews, app store included, weighted by review count (computed 4.247, rounded to one decimal).

User sentiment is one axis of eight, and it splits sharply by platform. The business review sites, where verified users describe daily work, rate Zendesk well, and the mobile agent app scores strongly too. Trustpilot sits far lower, and it needs careful reading before it moves any score.

**What users rate it, by platform**

| Platform | Rating | Reviews | As of |
|---|---|---|---|

_Rendered from our current record; these are other platforms' user scores, separate from our own Toolkit Score._

Read Trustpilot as a map of complaint themes, not a verdict, because many reviewers there are end customers of companies that use Zendesk. The newest negative reviews cluster around support and slow responses, AI bots, cancellation and price increases. Those themes match the documented terms: renewal at then-current rates, no refunds, no mid-term downgrade and weekday support. That is the trade-off behind our score. A capable platform. Its contract demands attention. Weighing it against the other help desks in our catalog? ## FAQ

**Is there a free Zendesk plan?**

No. Zendesk offers a 14-day trial without a credit card for up to 5 people including you, and trial data is lost at the end unless you buy or export it.

**Can startups get Zendesk free?**

Zendesk for Startups offers six months of the Suite for up to 50 agents to eligible early-stage companies; longer offers come only through Zendesk's partner VCs and accelerators.

**Where is Zendesk data hosted?**

The Data Center Location add-on hosts data in the US, EEA, UK or APAC and is free on Suite Professional and above on request. Without it Zendesk may move account data between regions.

**Does Zendesk offer 24/7 support?**

Not by default. Standard Support on Suite plans runs 8-to-5 web and phone in local business hours, five days a week. Round-the-clock support requires a paid Premier plan.

## The bottom line

Zendesk earns its place when a support team needs SLAs, skills routing, several channels and AI agents in one system, and our 3.9/5 reflects that depth. Buy Suite Professional if you need those gates, set the AI overage or pause choice on day one, and put a renewal reminder 45 to 60 days before the term ends. Pick Support Team only if email tickets are all you handle. Skip it if you wanted a CRM.
