The short answer: nothing replaces Search Console
Nothing replaces Google Search Console for Google's own data about your site. Only Search Console reports clicks, impressions and positions as Google recorded them, plus manual actions and security issues from Google's side [1]. Paid tools estimate traffic from their own crawls. Even Ahrefs calls its own connector "an intelligence layer on top of your Google Search Console data". The useful alternatives cover what Search Console cannot: Bing Webmaster Tools for Bing and Copilot, Ahrefs Free for a crawl and backlinks, and a paid suite for research. Most sites should run two or three of them together.
People go looking for an alternative for a handful of reasons. Tables stop at 1,000 rows, history stops at 16 months, and there is no competitor data and no search volume. Some want another search engine, and some want AI visibility beyond Google. Each reason points to a different tool. We read each vendor's own pages and the pricing data in our database, all fetched from the US on October 13, 2026, and list free tools first, then paid suites. Prices are list prices in US dollars. We did not test any tool by hand.
Bing Webmaster Tools can import verified ownership from Search Console, so the second console takes minutes and no DNS work.
Bing Webmaster Tools: the best free second console
Bing Webmaster Tools is Microsoft's equivalent, and it is free [2]. It covers indexing, keyword performance and crawl diagnostics for Bing, and Bing says it also powers Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and AI tools. One account covers all of them. You can sign in with a Microsoft, Google or Facebook account, and if your site is already verified in Search Console, you can import that verified ownership directly. That makes it the cheapest second tool to add. Five minutes, no DNS. Few paid tools return that much in their first month.
Performance and AI citations
Bing's performance report tracks impressions, clicks and average position over up to 16 months of data, the same window as Google. Since 2023 it has combined web and chat traffic, so Copilot clicks show up next to classic search, much as AI Mode does in Google's numbers. On February 10, 2026 Bing launched an AI Performance report in public preview that shows how often your content is cited in generative answers and which URLs are referenced. On June 16, 2026 it added Intents, Topics, Citation Share and Compare. Google's AI report shows impressions only.
Competitor links, keywords and crawl tools
Bing shows referring domains and anchor text "for both your own site and competitors". Search Console never shows another site's links. For a small business that cannot pay for a backlink index, this free view of rivals is the most underrated feature in webmaster tools. Bing also includes keyword research with trending keywords, related queries and long-tail ideas. The numbers reflect Bing, not Google, but they still show relative demand and new topics. Two more tools have no Search Console equivalent. Site Scan runs technical audits for broken links, duplicate tags and missing metadata, and Crawl Control lets you schedule when Bingbot visits. Google offers no crawl scheduling; it only slows down on its own when a server struggles.
Where it falls short
It measures Bing. Its audience is smaller than Google's, so most sites see far fewer clicks there. Bing also put an assistant inside the console: Copilot in Bing Webmaster Tools became available to all users on March 18, 2025, though it was English only at launch. Search Console's closest feature, AI-powered configuration, is still shown to a small share of users. Use Bing as a second source, not a replacement. The import makes that easy, and every site in the US market should run it next to Search Console.
Paid tools estimate traffic from their own crawls. Only Search Console reports Google's own clicks, so never treat a suite's estimate as real traffic.
Ahrefs Free: a crawler and an independent link index
Ahrefs Webmaster Tools has been renamed Ahrefs Free, which Ahrefs describes as the same plan under a name that reflects everything it now includes. It needs no credit card, and Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics require verified ownership. It works like Search Console, with Ahrefs data. Site Audit checks for more than 170 technical and on-page issues, and each project gets 5,000 crawl credits a month, spent only on HTML pages that return 200 [3]. That is the key difference. Search Console never crawls your site on demand; it reports what Googlebot did. A crawler finds problems before Google does.
Backlinks and limits
Ahrefs Free lets you see up to 1,000 backlinks at once for verified sites, drawn from Ahrefs' own link index rather than Google's. The two lists will differ. Search Console's Links report is a sample capped at 1,000 rows in its tables, so having both gives a fuller picture of who links to you; our Search Console backlinks guide covers the Google side. You get unlimited verified sites and up to 1 million Web Analytics events per project. Competitor analysis is paid only, and the next step is Ahrefs Starter at $29 a month. For your own sites, the free tier is generous.
Web Analytics and GSC Insights
Ahrefs Free also includes Web Analytics, pitched as a focused alternative to Google Analytics with no cookies by default and no personal data collected. It replaces Google Analytics, not Search Console. Different job. Ahrefs also connects to Search Console directly through GSC Insights, which works with Ahrefs Free. It argues that Google only keeps 16 months of data and builds history from the moment you connect. It also claims Search Console hides 46% of traffic in anonymized queries, but that is an Ahrefs estimate rather than Google's figure.
Yandex Webmaster and IndexNow
Yandex Webmaster is the Russian search engine's console. It requires a Yandex ID and verification by meta tag, HTML file or DNS record, and its help pages state no price. Since April 2025 its query monitoring shows monthly averages over 18 months, two months longer than Google's history. It also lets owners request removal of up to 500 pages and added a GET parameters tool in December 2025. Adding a site does not guarantee it appears in results. Same deal as Google. For a typical US business it adds little, but for readers in Russia, Kazakhstan or Belarus it is the only first-party source of search data for that market.
IndexNow is a protocol, not a tool. It lets a site notify search engines when pages change, and its supporters include Microsoft Bing, Naver, Seznam.cz, Yandex and Yep, with Yandex on board since October 18, 2021. Google is not listed. A single request can carry up to 10,000 URLs, and submitted URLs still count against crawl quota. On verification, a little planning saves work later. Search Console accepts six methods, with DNS the only one for Domain properties, while Bing adds Domain Connect and the Search Console import. Verify once with DNS and reuse it.
Free Google tools that sit around Search Console
Some needs are met by other free Google tools, and none of them is a different data source. Two tools work on any URL without ownership: the Rich Results Test and the AMP test. They test the live page only, which makes them useful for a client site before you get access. PageSpeed Insights tests speed on any URL but strips URL parameters, while Search Console's Core Web Vitals report keeps them. For one page, PageSpeed is faster. For the whole site over 28 days of real users, Search Console is better. A plain site: search shows a sample of pages Google knows about, free and with no account, but it gives no counts you can trust.
Google Analytics measures what visitors do after they arrive, and Search Console measures what happens before. They answer different questions, and linking them puts a few Search Console reports inside Analytics. If the problem is reporting rather than data, Looker Studio reads Search Console directly, and Google publishes a dashboard template that joins it with Analytics at no cost. Agencies that only need client reports often stop there. On WordPress, Site Kit shows Search Console and Analytics data in the dashboard and has over five million active installs. It is Search Console, closer to where bloggers already work.
Add a paid suite only for competitor research or keyword volume. Every suite we reviewed reads Search Console data rather than replacing it.
The paid suites: what research actually costs
Six paid suites appear in our SEO reviews, and every one of them imports or reads Search Console data instead of replacing it. That tells you where the market believes the ground truth lives. What they sell is the outside view: competitor research, keyword volume and rank tracking. The prices below are list prices in US dollars, with the annual figure shown the way each vendor states it.
| Suite and plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing |
|---|---|---|
| Semrush SEO | $139 a month | $1,407.96 a year |
| Ahrefs Lite | $129 a month | $1,290 a year |
| SE Ranking Core | $129 a month | $103.20 a month |
| Mangools Basic | $49 a month | $29.90 a month |
| Serpstat Individual | $69 a month | $50 a month |
| Ubersuggest Individual | $29 a month | $192 a year |
Semrush and Ahrefs
Semrush is the widest paid suite we reviewed, at $139 a month for Semrush SEO [4]. Its free account tracks 10 keywords and audits 100 pages. Even Semrush uses Google's data as an input: its On Page SEO Checker can collect ideas from Search Console. On monthly billing that is $1,668 a year, which buys research data but not a single click Google did not already report for free. It makes sense for teams that publish every week, not for a site that posts monthly. Ahrefs Lite costs $129 a month, Standard $249 and Advanced $449. The jump from Ahrefs Free is competitor data and keyword research, since both tiers read the same verified-site data for your own properties.
SE Ranking, Mangools, Serpstat and Ubersuggest
SE Ranking adds daily rank tracking, audits and a backlink database, plus a Backlink Monitor with a free 14-day trial. It exports up to 10,000 rows in .xls format and unlimited rows in CSV, ten times Google's 1,000-row cap. Mangools Basic bundles keyword research, a SERP checker, backlinks and a rank tracker, with daily tracking reserved for the Agency plan. Its SERPWatcher imports the keywords you rank for from Search Console. Serpstat has a free tier, a 7-day trial and a free checker on Google's own API that inspects up to 100 URLs at a time. Ubersuggest, at $192 a year, is the lowest yearly price in our SEO category.
How the main options compare
| Feature | Search Console | Bing Webmaster Tools | Ahrefs Free | Semrush SEO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| List price | Free | Free | Free | $139 a month |
| Search engine data | Bing and Copilot | Ahrefs index | Semrush index | |
| Competitor data | No | Backlinks only | No | Yes |
| History | 16 months | 16 months | Not stated | Not stated |
| AI search report | Impressions | Citations | Not stated | AI Visibility |
The table shows why these tools stack rather than compete. Each row where Search Console says no is a row where another tool says yes. For AI visibility, use Search Console's generative AI report, live for all sites since August 31, 2026, and Bing's AI Performance report together. For backlinks, Ahrefs Free covers your own site and Bing gives a free glance at competitors. For keyword research, only a paid suite will do, and Ubersuggest Individual, at $192 a year, is the cheapest option in our reviews. Mangools Basic at $358.80 a year adds a better rank tracker than Ubersuggest; choose by whether you need volume or tracking.
The right stack for your kind of site
Small blogs need Search Console, Site Kit and Bing Webmaster Tools. A blog with a few hundred queries never hits the 1,000-row limit, and Google says sites under 500 pages may not even need the Page indexing report. Spend money on content, not tools. Online stores rely on Search Console's Shopping reports and merchant listings, with Ahrefs Free for audits of product templates. A store with 20,000 products can easily rank for 50,000 queries, so the tables show about one query in fifty, and the API or bulk export becomes necessary long before a paid suite does.
Publishers live in the Discover and News reports, which only Search Console provides. Add Bing for Copilot citations and a paid suite for topic research, and since Discover is unpredictable by Google's own account, watch the data anomalies page. Agencies should ask each client to add them as a user and never take ownership of a client's account; owners can add up to 100 non-owners per property. Use Looker Studio for reports and one paid suite for research, since SE Ranking and Serpstat both sell agency plans that connect to Search Console. Keeping client data in client accounts saves trouble when contracts end.
What you lose without Search Console, and what the stack costs
Without Search Console you lose Google's click data, indexing reasons, URL Inspection, manual action and security alerts, and the generative AI report. No vendor can sell these, because only Google has them. Dropping it to save time is a mistake. Our guide to whether Search Console is free covers what the free tool includes. If you move reporting elsewhere, take the data with you: the API returns up to 50,000 rows per day per search type, bulk export to BigQuery keeps history beyond 16 months, and report exports stop at 1,000 rows. Start the bulk export first.
The free layer of Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and Ahrefs Free costs $0. Adding Mangools Basic billed annually brings the total to $358.80 a year, and adding Semrush SEO instead brings it to $1,407.96. Only the research layer costs. Several community MCP servers also connect Search Console to Claude and other assistants through the official API, though Google does not publish one; they are new windows onto the same data, with the same quotas, as our Search Console AI guide explains. The common mistakes are predictable: treating a paid tool's traffic estimate as real traffic, expecting Search Console clicks to match Analytics sessions, dropping Search Console after buying a suite, and forgetting Bing.
Frequently asked questions

Bing Webmaster Tools, used alongside Search Console rather than instead of it. It imports your verified sites, keeps 16 months of history and adds competitor backlinks and Copilot citations.
Can Semrush or Ahrefs replace Google Search Console?+
No. They estimate traffic from their own data and import Search Console for real clicks.
Is Ahrefs Free really free?+
Yes, with no credit card. It covers unlimited verified sites, a site audit with 5,000 crawl credits per project each month and up to 1,000 backlinks at once, but competitor analysis is paid only.
How do I track AI search visibility for free?+
Use both Google's generative AI report, which shows impressions, and Bing's AI Performance report, which shows how often your content is cited in generative answers.
How do I get around the 1,000-row limit?+
Use the Search Console API, which returns up to 50,000 rows per day per search type, or start the bulk export to BigQuery, which also keeps history beyond 16 months.
What does a full SEO tool stack cost?+
Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and Ahrefs Free cost $0. Adding Mangools Basic billed annually brings it to $358.80 a year, or $1,407.96 with Semrush SEO instead.
The bottom line
There is no alternative to Google Search Console, only additions. Bing Webmaster Tools is the best free addition, Ahrefs Free the best free crawler and link view, and the paid suites the only route to competitor data and keyword volume. Together they cost between $0 and about $1,400 a year, depending on how much research your business really needs. Start with the free layer, export your history, and add a paid suite only when research pays for itself. Each layer answers a question the others cannot.
