Get your emails opened and read

Send each group the email that fits it, test subject lines on a slice of the list, and judge results by clicks, not opens alone.

For anyone asking: How do I get more people to open and read my emails?

Tools that do it

Each one's way of doing it, and the point where it stops.

Kit Does it

Tags and segments on every plan, A/B tests on broadcasts even on Free, and a subject-line generator in the broadcast editor. Creator adds two-variant subject-line tests; Pro adds content tests and engagement scoring. Where it stops: Full engagement analytics and scoring are on Pro only.

MailerLite Does it

Segments update themselves by rules such as opened recent campaigns, group membership or field values, on every plan. Comfort adds multivariate testing, dynamic content, smart sending to help time campaigns, and auto-resend to non-openers. Where it stops: Smart sending, auto-resend, the AI assistant and multivariate testing are not on Free; the subject-line generator is limited there.

Brevo Does it

Segmentation starts on Starter, with an AI content generator for subject lines. Standard adds A/B testing, AI send-time optimization and behavior-based segments from web and event tracking; Professional adds contact scoring. Where it stops: Free and Starter have no A/B testing or send-time optimization; send-time optimization is a poor fit for fixed-deadline appeals.

Segments are rules evaluated at send time, such as opened in the last 90 days or bought twice. Standard adds subject-line A/B testing, subject-line recommendations, resend to non-openers and advanced reporting on who opened and clicked. Where it stops: Lite has no subject-line testing and no advanced reporting; ecommerce segmentation needs Premium.

Mailchimp Does it

Tags and segments sit in each audience. Essentials adds A/B testing and delivery by time zone; Standard and Premium add multivariate testing and Send Time Optimization, which predicts the best send time from past click patterns. Where it stops: Free has no A/B testing and no dynamic content; the AI segmentation feature carries beta, plan, country and language conditions.

ActiveCampaign Does it

AND/OR segment groups and contact scoring start on Plus. Professional adds predictive sending, which picks the best time per person, plus conditional content that changes blocks by contact. Where it stops: Predictive sending needs volume and cannot be judged during the trial.

Klaviyo Partly

Behavioral segments built from orders update themselves in the base plan, with suggested engaged, lapsed and never-purchased segments. AI applies to campaign variant testing, and the advice is to judge flows by revenue per recipient. Where it stops: Built around a store: revenue attribution presumes one, and for non-store senders most pre-built flows do not apply.
