The verdict, in one line

Metricool is an all-in-one social media app for small businesses, freelancers and small agencies. It plans and publishes posts, measures your own profiles and your competitors, builds client-ready reports, collects comments and messages in an inbox, automates replies, reports on ads and hosts a link-in-bio page. It is priced by brands, not by users or channels, and a brand holds one profile per network, so a single Starter subscription can cover up to five businesses. The catch sits at the edges. X needs a paid add-on on top of any plan bought on the web, the API and extra team members wait at Advanced, and several of the newest tools are free only for now. For one person or a small team running several brands, it is one of the strongest values we have read about in this category.

Behind it is Metricool Software SL, based in Madrid, Spain, and part of the team.blue group since 2024. So, is it legit? Yes. That European base shapes the product more than it first appears: customer data sits on servers in the European Union, the contract falls under Spanish law, and the prices on the pricing page exclude VAT. Metricool says it serves millions of users, and the help center behind it runs to some 350 articles, which we read alongside the pricing page, the terms, the privacy policy and the monthly product-update posts.

Who it's for, and who should skip it

Metricool fits best where one person or a small team runs social for several brands: a freelancer with four clients, a local business with two shops, a creator who also manages a side project, or a small agency. Because the price is set by brands rather than by seats or channels, adding a client costs nothing until you pass the band you bought, apart from the X add-on for each X account. It covers the networks small businesses use most: Instagram, Facebook Pages, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest and Google Business Profile, plus Twitch for analytics only. Each Google Business Profile location needs its own brand, which multi-location businesses should count before they pick a tier.

The wrong fit is easier to spot. Teams that need several people inside one account but cannot justify Advanced will hit a wall, because Free and Starter allow one user. Brands that depend on social listening will find none, apart from a Hashtag Tracker bought by the day. Customer care teams that need message assignment, auto-replies or alerts for new messages will find the inbox too thin. Groups that live in Facebook Groups are out, since Meta removed that permission in April 2024. And buyers whose security review demands a published certification will not find one. For everyone else, the Free plan is a cheap way to check the fit.

Toolkit tip
Count brands, not people

A brand holds one profile per network, and each Google Business Profile location needs its own brand. Count them before you choose a Starter or Advanced band.

What it costs: brands, not seats

Metricool sells four plans in US dollars, before VAT, and every paid plan comes in bands of brands rather than a price per seat. Free is the entry point, Starter is the plan most freelancers and small businesses land on, Advanced adds the team and developer features, and Custom covers more than 50 brands with White Label and an account manager [1]. The grid below shows each band with both billing periods, so you can see the brand count and the period together, which is the only honest way to quote these prices:

Plan Billed monthly Billed annually Brands
Free $0 $0 1
Starter $25 a month $20 a month up to 5
Starter $45 a month $36 a month up to 10
Advanced $67 a month $53 a month up to 15
Advanced $107 a month $85 a month 25
Advanced $210 a month $159 a month 50
Custom Contact sales Contact sales more than 50

Annual billing saves up to 24%, and the per-brand math is unusually kind. On annual billing, five brands on Starter cost $240 a year, or $4 a brand a month by our arithmetic, and fifteen brands on Advanced cost $636 a year, about $3.53 a brand a month. Starter brings unlimited publishing under a Fair Use Policy, LinkedIn, 100 competitors, PDF and PPT reports, unlimited analytics history, SmartLinks and Google Drive. It has one user. Advanced is the plan for teams: unlimited users, roles and permissions, post approval, custom report templates, the Looker Studio connector and the API. Our full Metricool pricing guide walks through every band.

Why X changes the math

X (Twitter) is not part of any plan bought on the web. You need a paid plan plus the X add-on, which costs $10 a month, or $120 a year, for each connected X account since July 13, 2026 [2]. Buyers from before that date keep a $5 price as long as they hold at least one add-on, and lose it for good if they remove them all or cancel. Free accounts cannot connect X at all. A freelancer on the five-brand Starter band, billed monthly, who connects one X account pays $25 plus $10, or $35 a month by our arithmetic. Starter also gets a reduced set of X analytics, while Advanced gets the complete set. Count your X accounts first.

No standard trial, and a short refund window

There is no standard free trial of the paid plans. The Free plan is the way in: one brand, 20 posts a month, 30 days of analytics, every network except LinkedIn and X, and a fixed demo of five competitors per network. Trials exist only through codes: affiliate trial codes give first-time users with no previous paid plan 30 days, and the DSC15 Looker Studio coupon gives a 15-day trial of Advanced. The refund rule is strict, so read it before you pay annually. You can withdraw within 15 days of your first purchase of a paid plan, but renewals, annual cycles after that window and plan changes are not refunded [3]. Downgrades keep your oldest brands by default; to keep a different one, delete the unwanted brands from the Connections panel before the downgrade or cancellation completes, because the choice is locked after that.

⚠️
Watch out
Free for now is not forever

Studio, Campaign Dashboards and Flows are free on paid plans for a limited time and are announced as future paid add-ons. Do not build a client workflow that depends on them staying free.

Planning and publishing

The Planner is the heart of the product. It is broad. You get a calendar across all your networks, Best Times suggestions, autolists that recycle evergreen content and an image and video editor built in, plus, on paid plans, a post library, RSS feeds that fill autolists on their own and CSV import for large batches. Canva and Google Drive plug straight into the composer on paid plans, Adobe Express connects as well, and recurring posts arrive with Advanced. Instagram publishing is automatic for business or creator profiles across posts, Reels, Trial Reels and Stories, with up to five collaborators per post. Instagram itself caps automatic publishing at 50 posts per 24 hours.

Some formats still need your phone. Stories with links, mentions or stickers, Reels with interactive stickers or audio from outside Metricool's library, and carousels with videos over 60 seconds go out by notification, which means the mobile app has to be installed. Other gaps are worth knowing too. A published post cannot be edited from Metricool, so typo fixes happen on the network itself. The composer has no rich text, YouTube community posts are not supported, and Facebook Groups are off the table. And unlimited is not literally unlimited: the Fair Use Policy sets a base threshold of 600 posts per brand a month, above which a manual check can pause posting.

Analytics, reports and the new Studio

Analytics is where Metricool earns its name. It measures your own profiles, tracks a website or blog with a script that sets no cookies, and follows competitors on Free and paid plans alike, up to 100 on Starter. History is unlimited on paid plans and stops at 30 days on Free. Ads get their own section for Meta, Google and TikTok, with campaign management for Meta and Google and monitoring only for TikTok. Reports export as PDF or PPT from templates, ready for monthly client sends, and Advanced adds custom templates. Teams that live in dashboards can push everything into Looker Studio through the connector, which Metricool still calls Data Studio and keeps for Advanced and Custom.

Studio and Campaign Dashboards, free for now

Metricool Studio builds a report from a written prompt, is described as powered by Claude, and shares views through public links that refresh on their own. It works only on data Metricool already collects, so no Google Analytics or CRM data, and it runs on the web only. That is a real limit. Campaign Dashboards group organic and paid posts for one brand over a period of up to 180 days. Both are free on Starter and Advanced for a limited time and are announced as future paid add-ons. Without the Advanced Analytics add-on, which starts at $12 a month on Starter and $36 a month on Advanced, you get two Studio views of ten versions each and three dashboards per brand.

Inbox and Flows

The inbox gathers Facebook comments and messages, Instagram comments and messages, TikTok comments from business accounts, LinkedIn comments and mentions, YouTube comments, Google Business Profile reviews and X private messages for anyone paying for the X add-on. It works per brand, with no unified view across brands, and saved replies speed up the routine answers. The limits are real, though. You cannot delete or hide comments from Metricool, there are no auto-replies, no assignment and no notifications for new messages. Meta also caps direct message replies at 7 days when Instagram connects through Facebook and 24 hours when it connects directly. It is a shared mailbox, not a help desk.

Flows fills part of that gap. Launched to all users on September 1, 2026, it turns an Instagram comment, DM or Story reply containing a keyword into an automated message sequence, the comment-to-DM trick creators use to hand out links and lead magnets; comment-to-DM needs the Instagram account linked to a Facebook Page. On TikTok it replies to and hides comments; on X it needs the add-on. Meta's rules apply, so the first DM in a comment flow cannot carry a link. Flows is free on paid plans for a limited time and is announced as a future paid add-on, and it does not run on Free or on the app-store plan. Treat it as a bonus you may pay for later.

Toolkit tip
Connect the free MCP early

The official MCP works on every plan, including Free, so you can schedule posts and read analytics from Claude or ChatGPT without paying for the API, within your plan's limits (20 posts a month and 30 days of analytics on Free).

AI, the MCP and the API

The built-in AI assistant drafts and rewrites posts on credits: 5 a month on Free, 20 per brand on Starter and 35 per brand on Advanced, with one credit worth roughly 600 words of prompt and answer. Credits cannot be bought and do not roll over. AI alt text uses credits on Free and Starter and is unlimited on Advanced. Metricool adds an AI-content label for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube to meet the EU AI Act, and its terms say AI providers may not train on customer content. That is a sensible base. It will not replace a writer, but it saves the first draft.

The bigger story is the official MCP server, which connects Metricool to AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT. It is open source, has official connectors in Claude's directory and for ChatGPT since September 2026, and works on every plan, including Free, with plan limits still in force [4]. Through it, an assistant can read your brands and analytics and create, update and schedule posts. It cannot reach the inbox, comments, SmartLinks, Google Business Profile reviews, autolists or ads management, and sending posts for review through it needs Advanced. Our Metricool MCP guide covers the setup.

The REST API is a different matter and belongs to Advanced and Custom only. We found no published call limit for the API on Advanced; the 500 calls a month per brand in Metricool's terms is a condition of Custom-plan Integration and White Label contracts. Calls from a browser are blocked, so you need a backend, and inbox comments come back only for the 50 most recent posts per network. Zapier works on Advanced and Custom with six triggers and four actions, while Make (the automation tool) and n8n connect through the API. For a solo marketer, the free MCP covers most of what the API does for scheduling and analytics. For a developer building a pipeline, budget for Advanced. No shortcut exists there.

Mobile apps, support, security and privacy

The iOS and Android apps let you publish, review basic stats, reply to messages and manage the calendar, with files of up to 500 MB. They leave out SmartLinks, Ads, Studio, Campaign Dashboards, Flows, user and subscription management, Adobe Express and thread scheduling, so the desktop app stays the main workspace. You will still want the app installed for notification publishing. Buying through Apple or Google gets you only Starter Mobile 5, billed monthly with the X add-on included and no promo codes, and plans bought there are managed there. Everyone else buys, changes and cancels on the web.

Support runs through in-app chat and email on every plan. There is no phone line. There is no published response time either, which is the weakest part of the offer and the lowest mark on our scorecard. Security is basic but present: two-factor authentication through an authenticator app, off by default, plus an email code when you log in from a new device. We found no published security certification, no SOC 2 and no ISO 27001, so larger buyers should ask before they sign. Privacy is the stronger side. Data stays on servers in the European Union with no international transfers, a GDPR data processing agreement is available on request, and breaches must be reported within 72 hours.

What users say

The business-software review sites rate Metricool well, and Trustpilot is mostly positive too, which is less common than it should be for social tools. The app stores are weaker, with Android middling and the US iOS store low, a fair match for apps that leave out much of the desktop product. The low-star Trustpilot reviews cluster around support, posts that failed or never published, lost analytics data and login trouble. Read them as a map of where things go wrong, not as a trend. Failed posts and slow support are exactly the risks a phone-free support model and notification publishing would predict, so test your own formats on Free first.

Metricool next to Buffer, Hootsuite and Later

Buffer is the rival most buyers weigh against Metricool, and the pricing logic differs. Buffer charges per channel: its Free plan covers 3 channels, Essentials costs $6 per channel a month billed monthly or $5 billed yearly, and Team costs $12 per channel or $10 yearly with unlimited users, for the first ten channels, with lower per-channel prices above that on both billing periods. Buffer also offers its API and an MCP server on every plan, which Metricool matches only for the MCP. Neither has social listening. A business with four channels on yearly billing pays $20 a month on Buffer Essentials and the same on Metricool Starter, by our arithmetic, but Metricool covers up to five brands for that, as long as none of the four is X, since each X account adds $10 a month on Metricool. Our Metricool vs Buffer comparison goes deeper.

Hootsuite sits in a different weight class. It charges per user, with Standard at $99 per user a month billed annually and no published month-to-month rate, and it has no free plan. In return it brings basic listening on Standard, inbox replies and workflows automated from Professional ($199 per user a month billed annually) according to its plans page, auto-responders and message routing from Advanced ($399 per user a month billed annually), and SSO on Enterprise only. Hootsuite publishes SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, which Metricool does not. Later charges per Social Set: its Starter costs $25 a month billed monthly or $18.75 billed yearly for one set and one user, capped at 30 posts per profile a month. Later has no public API, and its X support ended on August 28, 2025. The pattern is clear. For one person running several brands, Metricool usually covers more per dollar.

How we score Metricool

We read the pricing page with every billing toggle, the help center, the legal terms and privacy policy, the MCP and API documentation and the monthly product-update posts in October 2026, and checked each claim against the page that supports it. We did not buy a plan or run campaigns through Metricool. Where Metricool's own pages disagreed, we followed the newer and more authoritative one, such as the MCP plan rules over older terms. The score weights our social media rubric, and the reasoning for each axis sits on the card below.

That lands Metricool at 4.0/5. Our social media category, by current score: Metricool 3.98, Sprout Social 3.93, Buffer 3.92, Hootsuite 3.79, Sendible 3.65, SocialBee 3.62, Later 3.15. It scores best on integrations, value, AI and documentation, where the brand-based pricing and the free MCP stand out. It loses ground on ease of use and sentiment, and most of all on support, where chat and email without published response times leave small teams waiting when a post fails.

Frequently asked questions

Is Metricool worth it?+

For freelancers and small teams managing several brands, yes. Starter costs $20 a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly for up to 5 brands and one user, with planning, analytics, reports and the inbox included. A team needs Advanced, from $53 a month billed annually, and X costs $10 a month per connected X account extra.

Is Metricool legit and safe?+

Yes. It is run by Metricool Software SL in Madrid, Spain, part of the team.blue group, and keeps customer data on servers in the European Union. It offers authenticator-app 2FA, but we found no published security certification.

Does Metricool have a free plan?+

Yes. Free covers 1 brand, 20 posts a month and 30 days of analytics on every network except LinkedIn and X. There is no standard free trial of the paid plans.

Does Metricool support X (Twitter)?+

On plans bought on the web, only on a paid plan with the X add-on, which costs $10 a month or $120 a year per connected X account. The app-store Starter Mobile 5 plan includes X in its price.

Can I get a refund from Metricool?+

Only within 15 days of your first purchase of a paid plan. Renewals and annual cycles after that window are not refunded.

Does Metricool have an API?+

Yes, on Advanced and Custom only. The official MCP server, by contrast, works on every plan, including Free.

The bottom line

Pick Metricool if you manage social for one to fifteen brands and want planning, analytics, reports, an inbox and AI in one place at a fair price. Start on Free to check your networks and post formats, then move to Starter if you work alone and to Advanced the moment a second person needs access or you want the API, Zapier or Looker Studio. Add the X add-on only for the accounts that need it. Do not plan around Studio, Campaign Dashboards or Flows staying free. Skip it if you need social listening, a real help desk inbox, phone support or a published security certification.
