The closest Replit alternatives are Lovable and Base44, two of the five other AI app builders we cover, with Bolt.new, the third, also building apps from a prompt (Softr, the fourth, builds no-code business apps on your data rather than code, and Bubble, the fifth, is a visual no-code builder with native mobile apps and no code export), followed by v0 and Emergent for prompt-to-app work. Developers who would rather steer the code themselves look at Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or Windsurf, then host on Vercel or Firebase. Many complaints are about the bill as much as about what Replit Agent produces. Replit charges dollars of usage under effort-based pricing, so a hard request costs more than an easy one and no prompt carries a fixed price. Each option below changes that equation in its own way, and several give up things Replit handles well, such as native iOS publishing.

Why Replit builders start shopping around

Replit Core costs $20 per month billed monthly and includes $20 of monthly credits, which pay for Agent work, hosting, databases and AI Integrations from one balance. Anything beyond that balance is billed pay-as-you-go unless you set a budget. The budget is a hard cap, and once it is met Replit temporarily suspends all usage-based services, hosting included [1]. So the control that protects your wallet can also take a live app offline. That trade sits at the heart of most switching decisions. You either accept an open-ended bill or accept that a capped month may pause your published app.

Complaints on Trustpilot cluster around costs and credits, Agent loops, support and locked accounts. The loop problem is the one Replit itself names: its help pages advise a usage limit precisely so a looping Agent cannot run up a large bill [2]. Support follows the plan. Core gets AI-powered help for technical and billing questions, with billing escalation to staff, while prioritized access to a support engineer starts on Pro. Replit also warns that Agent's behavior is probabilistic and may make mistakes. Its Terms add that generated code may be wrong or incomplete.

Before you leave, list what you would lose. Replit's dollar credits cover building and hosting together, development and production PostgreSQL databases are kept separate, and Agent builds native iOS apps with Expo that you publish under your own Apple Developer membership. Google Play publishing is not supported yet [3]. On training, only Pro can opt out, and Enterprise content is handled under the Enterprise agreement. Those are the yardsticks for every rival below.

⚠️
Watch out
A met budget pauses hosting

Once a Replit budget is reached, Replit temporarily suspends all usage-based services, hosting and databases included, until the next cycle or until you raise the limit.

Lovable and Base44 next to Replit

Replit Lovable Base44
What a credit is Dollars of usage, per account Lovable credits, per workspace Message and integration credits, per workspace
Free tier Starter: one published app, link goes down after 30 days Free: 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month Free: 25 message credits a month, at most 5 a day
Phone apps Native iOS via Expo; no Google Play publishing No native or store output Store-ready wrapper files (IPA and AAB) on Builder or higher
Unused credits Roll over for two months on Pro only Roll over 1 month on monthly billing, longer on annual No rollover, no top-ups
AI training Pro can opt out; Enterprise per agreement Opt-out on every plan Excluded only on Enterprise

Lovable, when you want a gentler free tier and training control

Lovable prices by the workspace, and its Pro plan with 100 credits costs $25 per month billed monthly or $21 per month billed annually. Its annual plan is one charge of ten times the monthly price. Those credits are not dollars, so compare what each tool lets you build rather than the cost per credit. The free plan publishes publicly or invite-only, Git sync works even there, and every plan can opt out of AI training. The catch is mobile. Lovable has no native or store output. Its fees are non-refundable except where the law requires. Replit, for its part, pulls Lovable projects in through GitHub or a ZIP built by Lovable's agent [4]; our Lovable vs Replit comparison goes deeper.

Base44, when you need files for both app stores

Base44 Starter costs $20 per month billed monthly or $16 per month billed annually, and Base44 Builder costs $50 per month billed monthly or $40 per month billed annually. Its two credit types split building from the services a live app consumes, and neither rolls over or can be topped up. The draw for Replit users is Android: on Builder or higher, Base44 produces IPA and AAB files you submit through your own Apple and Google Play accounts. Those apps wrap the published web app in a web view rather than running native code. Exported Base44 code still calls Base44's backend, which cannot be self-hosted, and only Enterprise workspaces are kept out of training. Its plans are non-refundable under its Terms. Our Base44 review covers the rest.

Other prompt-to-app builders

Bolt.new

Bolt.new meters work in tokens. Its free plan gives 1M tokens a month with a 300K daily limit and Bolt branding on sites. Bolt.new Pro costs $25 per month billed monthly, removes the daily limit, starts at 10M tokens a month, and adds a custom domain plus hosting for up to 1M web requests. Teams is priced per member, and paid members do not share tokens. Unused tokens stay for up to two months on paid plans. Replit's comparison page claims every Replit project ships with a production-grade database and Replit Auth, and Replit imports Bolt projects built with Vite and React.

v0

v0, from Vercel, suits builders who want their app on Vercel's hosting. The free plan allows 7 messages a day, visual edits, GitHub sync and deployment to Vercel. v0 Plus costs $30 per user per month with $30 of monthly credits per user, plus $2 of daily credits on login. That per-user pricing is the opposite of Replit's per-account model, so teams should count heads before comparing. Business turns training opt-out on by default, and v0's custom-priced top tier promises to keep your data out of training altogether. Replit imports v0 projects through GitHub.

Emergent

Emergent also sells monthly credit allowances, though its credits are units rather than dollars. Its free plan includes 10 credits a month. Emergent Standard costs $20 per month billed monthly or $17 per month billed annually, with 100 credits a month, private project hosting, extra credit purchases and GitHub integration. Emergent Pro costs $200 per month billed monthly or $167 per month billed annually, with 750 monthly credits, a 1M context window and custom AI agents. Its Enterprise tier offers deployment in your own VPC and self-hosted database support. Those options appeal to teams that want their data outside a shared cloud.

Coding tools for people who will read the code

Claude Code

Claude Code comes with every paid Claude plan and shares that plan's usage limits. Claude Pro costs $20 per month billed monthly or $17 per month on annual billing. It runs locally in your terminal on macOS, Linux or Windows and asks permission before changing files or running commands. That permission step is the guardrail many burned Agent users want. Replit's own comparison page stresses the other side: Replit runs in the browser with one-click publishing, while Claude Code leaves hosting to you.

Cursor

Cursor is an editor rather than an app builder. Its free plan has limited agent and chat requests. Cursor Plus costs $8 per month and Premium costs $30 per month. Third-party model usage is billed separately at API list price, and the allowance refreshes weekly, which Cursor says keeps one heavy day from wiping out a whole month. With Privacy mode on, Cursor guarantees code data is not used for training by Cursor or its model providers. You still need hosting and a database elsewhere.

GitHub Copilot

Copilot fits teams already living in GitHub. The free plan includes 2,000 completions a month. Copilot Pro costs $10 per user per month with $15 of monthly credits, and Copilot Pro+ costs $39 per user per month with $70. Budget alerts fire at 75%, 90% and 100% of any limit you configure. Individual subscribers can opt out of training without losing features. Hosting stays a separate decision.

Windsurf

Windsurf is another AI editor. Its free plan carries a light agent quota and unlimited inline edits. Windsurf Pro costs $20 per month and Max costs $200 per month. The usage allowance refreshes daily and weekly, and extra usage is bought at API pricing. That rhythm resembles Replit's Free Mode resets more than its monthly credits. Enterprise adds SSO and VPC deployment. As with Cursor, hosting is your job.

Hosting without an agent

Vercel

Vercel Hobby is free for personal, non-commercial use only. Vercel Pro costs $20 per month with $20 of included usage credit, and extra developer seats cost $20 per month each. New teams get a default on-demand budget with email notifications, and a team can also set a hard limit that pauses all projects, much like Replit's cap. SAML SSO is a paid add-on on Pro, whereas Replit keeps SSO for Enterprise. Replit can import Vercel apps, but environment values, domains and edge behavior stay behind.

Firebase

Firebase's Spark plan needs no payment method. Blaze is pay-as-you-go, keeps Spark's no-cost usage and adds a $300 credit for eligible accounts. Hosting includes 10 GB of storage and 360 MB a day of transfer at no cost, then $0.026 per GB stored and $0.15 per GB transferred. Firebase Studio is free for three workspaces. Pair it with a coding tool above if you want Google's backend without Replit's agent.

💡
Toolkit tip
Dump the database before canceling

Replit's production database is standard PostgreSQL reachable with its connection string, so export it while your plan is active. Code exports through GitHub or a ZIP carry code, not your data records.

Leaving Replit without losing the app

Staying and tightening Replit's controls may solve the problem without a move. Free Mode is no-cost Agent work inside an allowance on Starter, Core and Pro, resetting every five hours with a weekly limit on Core and Pro. Plan Mode is billed too, so planning is not free. Usage alerts warn you before a budget bites, and Pro's unused credits roll over for two months. Our Replit pricing guide explains each control.

If you do go, your code and Git history leave through GitHub sync or a ZIP download, and the production database is standard PostgreSQL reachable with its connection string. Replit-managed pieces must be replaced elsewhere: Replit Auth accounts, connectors, AI Integrations, App Storage and secrets. Canceling keeps your plan until the period ends; then the account drops to Starter, where published apps may go offline and custom domain connections are removed. Move hosting first. Replit's Terms allow full refunds of Starter and Core subscription payments made within 30 days, Pro refunds are handled case by case by Support, and usage, Agent and domain charges are non-refundable.

💡
Toolkit tip
Try an alert before a budget

A Replit usage alert warns you when spending passes a set amount beyond your monthly credits without stopping anything. Add a budget once you know where the cap should sit.

Frequently asked questions

Which Replit alternatives have a free plan?+

Lovable, Base44, Bolt.new, v0, Emergent, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Windsurf all list a free tier. Vercel Hobby is free for personal, non-commercial use, and Firebase's Spark plan needs no payment method.

Can I try Replit Core or Pro before comparing?+

No. Replit offers no time-limited trial of Core or Pro; its free tier is Starter, which builds with Lite build only. Base44 has no trial of its paid plans either.

Which alternatives charge per user?+

Several are: v0 Plus and GitHub Copilot per user, Bolt.new Teams per member, Cursor Teams and Claude Team per seat, Windsurf Teams per developer seat, and Vercel Pro charges for extra developer seats. Replit Pro, by contrast, allows up to 15 builders with pooled credits and no per-user fees, Replit says.

Can I move a Replit app to Lovable?+

Lovable imports ZIP exports from Replit and other platforms. Replit-managed pieces such as Replit Auth accounts, connectors, App Storage and secrets have to be rebuilt on the other side.

The bottom line

Pick a rival for the problem you actually have. If the open-ended bill is the issue, Lovable and Base44 trade dollar credits for plan credits, with Base44 adding Android store files and Lovable adding training opt-out on every plan. If you want to read every change, Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or Windsurf plus Vercel or Firebase hand you control and the hosting work. If you mainly fear runaway Agent spend, a Replit budget and Free Mode may fix it without moving.
