To delete a Read AI account, sign in with the method you originally used, open Account Settings, choose Advanced in the left-hand menu, scroll to the Delete Account section and click the red Delete my account button.[1] Access ends immediately. Every meeting report you own is permanently deleted, unless a Workspace retains it. Nothing can be undone. Two things belong before that click: cancel any paid plan first, because deleting is not cancelling and Read AI does not offer refunds, and accept that deleting your own account does not stop colleagues' or clients' Read assistants from joining meetings you attend.
Cancel a paid plan before you delete anything
Read AI's help tells paying users to cancel before deleting. The path is Plan & Billing, then Cancel plan, then Downgrade to Free.[2] Nothing further is charged, and paid features stay on until the current billing period ends. You can also cancel by emailing support@read.ai. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price for the same term. Cancel before the renewal date. Read AI does not offer refunds, including when you cancel an annual plan halfway through; its Terms of Service state this flatly.[3] Our Read AI pricing guide covers the renewal and plan-change rules.
Workspace members cannot cancel at all. Only the Workspace owner manages billing, and the owner can remove unused licenses, which stop being charged from the next cycle. Removing a member does not by itself reduce the license count, and it gives no refund for the current cycle. If your company pays for your license, ask the owner to remove you from the Workspace. You then usually drop to the Free plan and keep the reports you own, which you can delete yourself afterwards.
If the goal is only to stop paying, Read AI's help suggests downgrading instead of deleting. Free is $0 with no card and no time limit. Your past reports stay accessible, but you are capped at 5 meeting reports a month (reports others share with you count too), meetings up to 1 hour and no upload minutes. Premium integrations such as Notion, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zapier and webhooks stop working, and any Workspace you own is deactivated.
Cancel plan, then Downgrade to Free keeps your past reports on the Free plan ($0, no card), which allows 5 meeting reports a month and meetings up to 1 hour.
Deleting the account, step by step
- Sign in with the same method you used to create the account.
- Open Account Settings and click Advanced in the left-hand menu.
- Scroll down to the Delete Account section.
- Click the red Delete my account button.
- Verify the result in Read AI's Account and Privacy Center.
Three situations block the button. Workspace owners must transfer the Workspace or delete it before their own account can go. Workspace admins can switch off self-deletion for members, so inside a locked-down company Workspace you need an admin first. And only the account holder can delete the account. Support agents cannot do it from a ticket, and Read AI does not delete accounts at the request of third parties such as corporate IT. That rule surprises people. Account deletion is a recurring theme in Read AI's Trustpilot complaints, and the self-service-only rule explains why emailing support to close an account goes nowhere.
One edge case concerns older accounts. Read AI cannot provide an automatic deletion confirmation for accounts deleted before late February 2025. If you deleted yours earlier and Read still turns up in your meetings, the cause is usually one of the two described in the last section rather than a failed deletion, so check those before contacting anyone.
What happens to reports, recordings and Workspace data
Deletion removes every report the account owns, and Read AI's security overview says the data is gone for good. The exception is Workspace data: reports of meetings migrated to a Workspace stay with the Workspace and are not deleted with your account. Reports someone else recorded are not yours to delete either. Each report has exactly one owner, fixed when it is generated, and that owner decides who else can see it. A client's report of your call survives your deletion. You simply lose access.
For teams, deleting an account is often the wrong tool. A Workspace admin can deactivate a member instead: the account goes dormant, the assistant stops joining that person's meetings, the license is freed and the admin can transfer the member's Workspace reports to another user. Transfers cannot be undone. With SCIM, deprovisioning someone in the identity provider deactivates them in Read automatically, and SCIM-provisioned users cannot be deleted manually in Read.
Walking away without deleting is a different outcome. On Free, Read AI keeps report text for at least 1 year and no longer than 2 years, and deletes recordings 180 days after the meeting. Paid reports are kept until someone deletes them, unless an Enterprise+ data retention policy applies. Abandoning is not deleting. If you want the data gone on a date you choose, delete it yourself.
Reports of meetings migrated to a Read AI Workspace stay with the Workspace and are not deleted when you delete your own account.
Removing single reports or recordings instead
You do not have to delete the account to get rid of one meeting. As the report owner, open the report and select Delete Report in the top right. That permanently removes the data from Read AI's servers, nobody else can open the report afterwards, and the step cannot be undone. If you are not the owner, the same action only removes the report from your own list. Anyone with editor access can also remove other people's access to a report, except the owner's.
Two settings reduce what gets stored if you keep the account. Teams and individuals can limit or switch off storage of full recordings and transcripts while still getting summaries and action items. In a Workspace, turning off audio and video playback makes Read delete the underlying recording automatically after the report is generated. That setting is not retroactive.
If Read recorded you and you have no account, use the Account and Privacy Center.[4] Its report lookup tool shows the first name of the Read user who invited the assistant. Its deletion form takes the meeting join link or the report link and sends a request to the report owner. The report is deleted only if that owner acts on it. No account is needed to send the request.
Disconnect calendars, integrations and apps
There is a softer option between keeping and deleting. Read AI calls it deactivating: disconnect every calendar and your Zoom account, and Read stops joining your meetings while the account and your past reports stay. Individual permissions can be revoked any time from the Integrations page in Account Settings. Each app has its own removal route, and Read AI documents only some of them:
- Zoom App: in the Zoom App Marketplace, go to Manage, then Installed Apps, find the Read app and click Remove. This disconnects the Zoom integration, so Read cannot join or record any Zoom meeting for you, even with a calendar connected.
- Microsoft Teams: on Read's Integrations page, click Disconnect next to Microsoft Teams.
- Browser extension, Windows and macOS desktop app, iPhone and Android apps: Read AI's help documents no removal steps; remove them the way you remove any other extension or app.
Uninstalling deletes nothing. None of these removals closes the account or erases its reports; each only takes away one way of starting a recording. On a computer, the desktop app records microphone and system audio without appearing in the meeting, so remove it if you are leaving for good. That alone does not disconnect your calendar or change auto-join.
Zoom App Marketplace, Manage, Installed Apps, Read, Remove disconnects the Zoom integration, so Read cannot join or record any Zoom meeting for you.
Why Read can still join your meetings after deletion
Deleting your account removes your assistant, not everyone else's. Read joins a meeting when someone with a Read account who is on the invite has added it, through calendar auto-join or directly. On Teams and Google Meet it can join even when that person does not attend. Turning Read off for yourself does not stop other participants from having it on in their own accounts. When it joins, its chat message names who invited it.
The other cause is a second account. Read AI's help says another Read account on a different email address can keep producing the same behavior, and its Account Lookup tool finds it. This happens more often than people expect: depending on the sender's settings, Read shares a meeting summary with all attendees, and non-users get an invitation to sign up to view it. Read AI's help says that is how accounts are often created. Delete each account separately.
During any meeting with the assistant, anyone can type Read stop in the chat to make it leave with a report up to that point, or Opt out to make it leave and delete everything, with no report. Hosts can also remove it like any other participant. Neither command reaches the desktop or mobile apps, which record without joining the call. Our guide to removing Read AI from meetings walks through each platform and the auto-join settings.
Frequently asked questions
Can I merge two Read AI accounts instead of deleting one?+
No. Read AI's help says accounts cannot be merged and subscriptions cannot be transferred between accounts, so close the extra account by deleting it from its own Account Settings.
Does Read AI keep anything after I delete my account?+
Read AI's Privacy Policy says it may retain certain information required by law or for legitimate business purposes. The meeting reports you own are deleted, except reports a Workspace retains.
I only tried the free trial. Do I need to delete anything?+
The 7-day Enterprise trial needs no card and moves to the Free plan automatically, so nothing is charged. The account stays, though, and with a calendar connected Read keeps joining meetings until you change auto-join, disconnect the calendar or delete the account.
Does deleting a Read AI Workspace delete its members' accounts?+
No. Only the owner can delete a Workspace and the step is irreversible; members keep their Read accounts and move to the Free plan until they join another Workspace.
The bottom line
Deleting a Read AI account is one button under Account Settings and Advanced, but the order matters. Cancel any paid plan first, because there are no refunds and access only runs to the end of the period. Workspace owners must hand off or delete their Workspace, and members may need an admin. Deletion is permanent for the reports you own and does nothing to reports other people own. Disconnecting calendars and Zoom is the reversible alternative. None of it stops other attendees' Read, so check for a second account and use the chat commands when the assistant appears.
