Replit fits a startup MVP when a founder wants a working, hosted product from a prompt, not a mockup to hand to engineers later. Two programs cut the cost for funded teams. Startups backed by one of Replit's Select Partners can get $25K in Replit credits, valid 6 months, and startups in the wider Partner Network get one year of Replit Pro on a new account [1]. Without that backing, you climb plan by plan. Validate on Starter at $0, move to Core at $20 per month billed monthly ($18 per month billed annually) once you need a real domain and payments, and step up to Pro, which starts at $100 per month billed monthly, when a team and live customer data arrive.
Two startup offers, and the investor decides which one
The offers differ in size, and the dividing line is who funded you. A Select Partner backing unlocks the $25K credit grant plus an onboarding call. Those credits run out six months after they start, so they suit a team that already knows what it is building and can spend them on real work. The broader Partner Network unlocks free Pro only: one year of it for a new account, or the equivalent amount in credits for founders who already use Replit. The Pro package listed on the startups page includes $100 of monthly credits, up to 15 collaborators plus 50 viewers, private deployments and database restore up to 28 days.
Applications need a company email address, since requests from personal addresses may not be approved. Ask your investor first. Whether a fund sits in the Select tier or the wider network changes the offer more than anything you put in the form. Two smaller perks sit beside the grants. Since October 2026, incorporating through Stripe Atlas from inside Replit comes with 20% off [2]. Race to Revenue is an eight-week program in which founders race to a first dollar for a $25K prize, and a Startups Team contact exists for setting up startup teams.
Hosting, database and AI usage of a published app come out of the owner's credits first, then are billed pay-as-you-go.
Testing the idea before any money changes hands
Starter is the free plan, with no time limit, and it is enough to learn whether strangers understand your pitch. Agent works in Lite build there, a fast mode for quick edits and targeted changes. Free Mode covers everyday chatting and building inside an allowance for which Replit publishes no Starter numbers. You get one published app. Its link goes down after 30 days unless you publish it again, and it carries the Made with Replit badge. Treat it as a landing page or a clickable demo for customer interviews, not as the product your first buyers will log into.
The limits are deliberate. Full build, Plan Mode, third-party connectors, Replit AI Integrations and the Stripe integration all need Core or higher, and the production database on Starter stops at 1 GiB. Anything that reads your Google Drive or Sheets needs third-party connectors, which start on Core. The full list of what the free tier covers is in our guide to whether Replit is free.
Replit says startup applications from personal addresses such as Gmail or Outlook may not be approved. Confirm with your investor which partner tier it belongs to.
Core turns a demo into something that can charge
Core costs $20 per month billed monthly or $18 per month billed annually, and either way it includes $20 of usage credits each month that reset rather than roll over. Annual billing comes to $216 a year against $240 for twelve months billed monthly, by our arithmetic, so $24 less. That saving is small. Take it only once you are sure you will still be building in month twelve.
What the subscription unlocks matters more to a founder than the credits. Core adds Full build, Plan Mode, a custom domain, removal of the badge, unlimited published apps and a choice of publishing region, including Europe. It also opens payments. Agent sets up Stripe in a sandbox first, and going live means installing the Replit Integrated Payments app from the Stripe Marketplace on your live account rather than pasting keys. Beyond Stripe, the monetization set includes Whop for digital products, where Whop owns checkout and payouts, Shopify for physical goods on every plan, and RevenueCat for subscriptions inside native mobile apps. Replit's integrations page adds an incentive: the Stripe connector earns $50 in credits for every $250 your app earns, up to $2,000 in credits for $100,000 in earnings.
When users arrive, the owner pays for their traffic
Every visitor to a published app spends the owner's credits. Hosting, the production database, App Storage and any AI Integrations the app calls draw down your monthly credits first, then continue as pay-as-you-go usage. Since August 2026 the rates are $0.60 per million compute units and $0.40 per million requests on an Autoscale deployment, $0.16 per compute hour for production database compute and $0.35 per GiB per month for its storage. Outbound data transfer beyond the 100 GiB monthly allowance on Core and Pro costs $0.05 per GiB. Agent work on top is priced by effort, so a complex request costs more than a simple one and no fixed price per prompt exists.
Spend controls need a founder's judgment. Usage alerts warn you once spending passes a set amount beyond your credits. A budget is a hard cap: when it is reached, Replit emails you and temporarily suspends all usage-based services, hosting and databases included [3]. That protects you from a looping Agent but can take your product offline on launch day, and a suspended deployment does not restart by itself; you publish again. Organization budgets, a monthly cap, move in steps of $500 a month, and per-user spend limits are Enterprise only. For a busy month, credit packs on Core and Pro sell at $290 for $300 of credits or $950 for $1,000, and expire six months after purchase. Our Replit pricing breakdown covers every rate and option.
When a Replit budget is reached, all usage-based services are suspended, hosting and databases included, and a suspended deployment must be published again.
Pro, once a cofounder and the first hire join
Core already lets you invite up to 5 builders, whose Agent work spends the owner's credits, but only one background task runs at a time. Pro starts at $100 per month billed monthly, or $90 per month billed annually, for $100 of monthly credits. Pro with $100 of credits costs $80 a month more than Core billed monthly and $72 a month more billed annually, by our arithmetic, for $80 more in monthly credits. The question is whether the team needs what comes with it.
You get up to 15 builders with pooled credits and budget controls, with no per-user fees, Replit says, plus 10 parallel tasks, a production restore window up to 28 days and unused credits that roll over for two months. Priority support gives direct access to a support engineer; Replit's support policy staffs those Premium Support Engineers Monday to Friday, 6 am to 6 pm PT. Among Starter, Core and Pro, only Pro lets you opt out of Replit using your content to train its models. Pro options are not linear: Pro runs from $225 per month billed monthly for $250 of credits up to $2,050 per month billed monthly for $2,500, so pick the option closest to the usage you have measured, not the one you hope to reach.
What the longer restore window protects
Separate development and production databases launched for new apps in July 2025, and existing apps were migrated automatically. Agent edits the development copy and can only read production through a replica, and schema changes reach production when you publish, with warnings for tables that would lose data. The split matters because code rollback never restores production data. A checkpoint rollback returns files and, if you choose, the development database. Production needs a point-in-time restore, 7 days back by default or up to 28 days if you choose it on Pro, and a restore replaces the whole database. Recovery is not guaranteed. Turn on scheduled daily backups as well; they are off by default.
Scheduled daily production backups are off by default; Core keeps them 7 days and Pro 7, 14 or 28 days. Code rollback never restores production data.
Planning the hand-off to an engineering team
A founder who raises a round will eventually hire engineers, and the exits are documented. The Git pane syncs a project both ways with a GitHub repository, every app keeps an automatic Git backup, and projects can be downloaded as a ZIP. The production database is standard PostgreSQL, reachable from any PostgreSQL client through its connection string. The harder part is everything Replit manages for you: secrets, App Storage buckets, connectors and Agent history do not copy to a new project, and Replit Auth users are Replit accounts. Replit recommends Clerk for customer-facing apps, and Agent already defaults to it on Starter, Core and Pro.
Running an app entirely outside Replit is documented only for Enterprise Image Exports, which are in early access. Engineers inheriting the codebase should also review it closely. Replit itself warns that Agent's behavior is probabilistic and may produce mistakes, and Support does not debug application code. Replit's customers page carries founder stories. On it, GenAIPI claims a $105K app quote was built for under $400, with a first customer in five days (as of November 2026). Read figures like that as one customer's account, not a cost forecast. Production data handling is covered in our Replit database guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can a startup's Replit app go to the App Store and Google Play?+
Replit builds native iOS apps with Expo and submits them to the App Store through your own Apple Developer Program membership. Publishing to Google Play is not supported yet, though Android builds can be previewed in Expo Go on any plan, or in the Android Emulator on Core or higher.
Can founders try Pro before paying for it?+
Replit offers no time-limited trial of Core or Pro; the free tier is Starter. Startups in Replit's Partner Network can instead get one year of Pro on a new account.
Can I get a refund if the MVP stalls?+
Replit's Terms of Service allow full refunds of Starter and Core subscription payments made within 30 days of purchase. Pro refunds are handled case by case by Support, and usage, Agent/AI and domain charges are non-refundable.
Can I host my startup's app in Europe?+
Core, Pro and Enterprise can choose a publishing region, including Europe, while free accounts publish to North America. The region is permanent after publishing; moving means remixing the project.
The bottom line
For a founder with an idea and no engineer, Replit compresses the path from prompt to a hosted, paying product into one workspace, and the startup programs cover a large block of early usage if your investor qualifies, though usage beyond those credits is still billed. Start on Starter to test the pitch, buy Core when you need a domain and Stripe, and move to Pro when a team, pooled credits and the option of a 28-day restore window earn their price. Set alerts before launch and size any budget so it cannot switch off your app. Keep code synced to GitHub, and prefer Clerk over Replit Auth for customer logins, since Replit Auth users are Replit accounts.
