Replit has no student discount amount you can count on today. Its help center says an education program for students and educators offers discounted access, but the amounts and eligibility are managed on replit.com/education and may change, and no figure appears in anything we read [1]. What every student does get is the Starter plan at $0 with no time limit, which covers Free Mode, Lite build and one published app. Most coursework fits there. When a project needs a team, Full build or a custom domain, Core costs $20 per month billed monthly or $18 per month billed annually, per account, with $20 of usage credits a month [2].
The discount question, answered without guesswork
One older offer needs explaining. In September 2025 Replit's changelog announced a student discount on Core, claimed with a student email address and limited to the first six months of the plan. It was set against a Core price list that has since changed. That offer is history now. Today the docs point only to the education program and say it offers discounted access, without a number. Check replit.com/education before you plan a budget around a cut. Until that page shows an amount, assume full price.
Replit's partners page adds a separate route. It describes Replit for Education as free for any educator and their students [3], and the /edu page says the program serves students, educators and campus leaders. Neither page, as we read them, spells out which features a class receives, how student accounts are set up or how long access lasts. Free for the class is therefore a question for your instructor, not an option you can pick at checkout. If your school already runs it, your teacher knows the terms.
Other builders publish student terms more plainly. Base44 lists 50% off its Starter or Builder plan on a first paid personal subscription, claimed while still on its free plan, for up to 12 months on monthly billing or the first year on annual billing, then the standard rate. Lovable lists 50% off its Pro plan with 100 credits on monthly billing for up to 12 months, for verified students on a Free-plan workspace, once per person (see the Lovable student guide). GitHub gives verified students access to a Copilot Student plan, though Copilot is a coding assistant rather than an app builder with hosting. A Lovable or Base44 credit is not a Replit credit, which is a dollar of usage.
On Core, usage beyond the monthly credits is billed pay-as-you-go unless you set a budget. A budget caps it, but reaching the cap also suspends hosting and databases.
What the free Starter plan handles for a class
Starter gives you daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap, plus monthly credits for cloud usage such as a production database or a published app; Replit publishes no numbers for either. Free Mode is the everyday way to chat with Agent and build without spending credits, within the limits Starter already had. Builds run in Lite build, a quick mode meant for small edits and targeted changes. That suits weekly assignments, a portfolio page or a prototype for a class presentation. The Project Editor, with its shell, Git pane and Secrets, is on every plan, so a programming course that needs typed code still has a home.
Publishing is where the limits show. You get one published app, built with Lite build or Replit Design, and its link goes down automatically 30 days after publishing unless you publish it again. The app carries a Made with Replit badge with your referral link, and its production database tops out at 1 GiB. Since May 2026 even Starter can publish privately or behind a password, which helps when only a teacher should see the work. Mobile projects can be previewed on a phone through the free Expo Go app on a free account.
Several things students ask for need Core. Plan Mode, where Agent proposes a plan and waits for approval before touching files, is not on Starter. Neither are Full build, the paid Power and Max modes, most third-party connectors (Shopify is the exception), Replit AI Integrations or data visualization artifacts, although your own API key still works. Starter also has zero collaboration seats and no background tasks. Group work hits that wall first. Our full guide to the free tier goes deeper before you commit an assignment to it.
One rule matters for students who stop logging in over a summer or after graduating. A free account with no login for a year counts as inactive, and Replit may terminate it and delete its data and apps; paid accounts are exempt. Keep anything you want to show employers in a GitHub repository through the Git pane's two-way sync, or download the project as a ZIP. The production database is standard PostgreSQL, so its connection string works with any PostgreSQL client if you need the data elsewhere.

When a student project needs Core
| What the project needs | Starter | Core |
|---|---|---|
| Build experience | Lite build and Free Mode | Full build, Free Mode, Power and Max |
| Plan Mode | No | Yes |
| Published apps | 1, link goes down after 30 days | Unlimited apps |
| Made with Replit badge | Shown | Can be removed |
| Custom domain | No | Yes |
| Builders invited to a workspace | None | Up to 5 |
| iOS Simulator and Android Emulator previews | No (Expo Go only) | Yes |
| Price | $0, no time limit | $20 per month billed monthly; $18 per month billed annually (per account) |
Core is priced per account, not per student. Up to five builders can join your workspace without buying a plan, but every collaborator's Agent work spends the owner's credits, so the person who pays should also set the rules. The Core card lists up to 30 hours of chat and up to 60 projects on Free Mode, and on Core that allowance resets every five hours with a weekly limit. The monthly credits pay for Power and Max work, hosting and databases. On Core they reset on each monthly renewal date.
Annual billing is cheaper per month but commits you for the year. Core billed annually comes to $216 a year, against $240 for twelve months billed monthly, which is $24 less by our arithmetic. For a single semester, monthly billing keeps you flexible, because it stops when you cancel. Canceling keeps Core until the billing period closes; then the account drops to Starter, where published apps may go offline and custom domain connections are removed. There is no trial of Core or Pro.
Usage beyond the monthly credits is billed pay-as-you-go unless you set a budget. Agent prices each request by effort, so a complex request costs more than a simple one and Replit gives no fixed price per prompt. Set a budget on day one. It works as a hard cap: once reached, Replit emails you and temporarily suspends all usage-based services, hosting and databases included. The Terms allow full refunds of Core subscription payments made within 30 days of purchase, while usage charges are non-refundable; our pricing guide covers credit packs, alerts and plan changes.
Connect each project to a GitHub repository through the Git pane's two-way sync. Your portfolio then outlives a lapsed free account or a canceled plan.
Courses and credentials: Replit Learn, 100 Days of Code, certifications
Replit Learn, launched in December 2025, is a free platform that teaches building apps with AI and assumes no coding experience [4]. Its first course, AI Foundations, opened with three lessons live and three more on the way, and Replit named Intro to Replit, Advanced Vibes and Replit at Work as planned courses. Treat it as an orientation to prompting an agent, not a computer science syllabus. Students who want to understand the code Agent writes will still need a regular programming course next to it.
100 Days of Code is older. Replit launched it in September 2022 as a daily course of about 15 minutes, with a small project each day, taught by Replit teacher David Morgan; the 2022 announcement also offered free live help through a Replit 101 workshop. The workspace has moved on since. Replit removed its language and framework starter templates, so new projects now begin from Agent, an import or a remix, and lessons that open by picking a template will not match the screen. Replit still supports all languages through Nix, and the Project Editor remains available on every plan.
For proof of skills, Replit Certifications offer five proficiency levels that can be added to a LinkedIn profile. A third-party option sits beside them: Campus Vibe Coding 101, an eight-week live online course in which students build four apps and earn academic credits, with a first cohort in January 2026. The code CAMPUSREPLIT takes 10% off at checkout, but that discount applies to Campus's own course fee, not to any Replit plan. Student hackathon organizers can also ask Replit for event credits through its Partner Events program.
For teachers and schools weighing Replit
Educators have two doors in. The Education track of Replit's partner program is free to join, alongside Integration, Solution and Government tracks, and the partners page presents Replit for Education as free for teachers and their students. Account rules still apply to every pupil. Users must be at least 13, and anyone under 18 needs a parent's or guardian's permission, so younger pupils cannot hold their own accounts. A school planning a class should confirm how the education program handles sign-ups before the first lesson.
Two privacy points belong in any school's review. Replit may use prompts and generated content to improve its models; Pro can opt out, Enterprise content is handled under the Enterprise agreement, and the docs describe no opt-out on Starter or Core, the plans students actually use. Profiles may be indexed by search engines, and posted content can be visible to other users by default, so students should check what they publish. Replit itself warns that Agent's behavior is probabilistic and it may make mistakes. Grading the code is part of the job.
Frequently asked questions
Can I build a mobile app for a class project on Replit?+
Yes. Agent builds native apps with Expo and React Native, and a free account can preview them on a phone in Expo Go. Publishing to the App Store needs your own Apple Developer Program membership, and Google Play publishing is not supported yet.
Do I need to install anything to use Replit for school?+
No. Replit runs as a cloud workspace in the browser. A desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux also exists, and the Replit mobile app lets you build websites and web apps from a phone, though it cannot build native mobile apps.
Can classmates work on my project without paying?+
Not on Starter, which has no collaboration seats. On Core you can invite up to five builders who do not need a paid plan, but their Agent work spends the owner's credits.
Does Replit train its AI on student projects?+
Replit may use prompts and generated content to improve its models. Pro can opt out and Enterprise content is handled under the Enterprise agreement; the docs describe no opt-out on Starter or Core.
The bottom line
Replit is a reasonable place for a student to learn building with AI, as long as you plan around the free tier rather than a discount nobody has priced. Starter covers solo coursework, Replit Learn and one short-lived published app. Core earns its fee when a group needs shared work, Plan Mode or a site that stays up. Ask your school about Replit for Education, check replit.com/education for a current offer, set a budget before your first paid build, and keep every project synced to GitHub.
