Softr is a legitimate no-code platform, run from Berlin, for building business apps on top of your own data: client portals, internal tools, intranets, CRMs and dashboards. Its AI Co-Builder, launched in March 2026, drafts the database, pages, user groups and permissions from one prompt, and everything it produces stays editable in a visual editor. Softr has no code export and no self-hosting; its Vibe Coding Block builds isolated custom components that live inside Softr.
Prices are set per workspace: Pro, with 50 AI credits a month, is $119 per month billed monthly or $99 per month billed annually, including 10 Team users and 50 Client users. Our verdict is a clear yes for teams whose apps serve logged-in staff or clients on structured records. Look elsewhere if you need app-store apps, offline use or source code you can take with you.
Blocks, a database and an assistant that assembles them
Softr describes itself as full-stack: Softr Databases, the interface builder and Workflows live in one workspace, with sign-in, user groups and hosting on softr.app included, plus a custom domain from Basic. You describe an app, the Co-Builder may ask two or three clarifying questions, and then it lays out tables, fields, relationships, sample data, pages, navigation, permissions and a theme. It composes Softr's existing blocks instead of writing code, so you can move between prompting and dragging blocks at any point.
Where the standard blocks run out, the Vibe Coding Block (December 2025) generates one isolated React component in TypeScript that inherits the app's theme, data connections and permissions, with a version saved on every re-prompt. There is a catch. Recompiling such a block resets its actions to default permissions, so recheck every restriction after a change. Softr Databases reached all users in June 2025 with linked records, lookups, rollups and formulas, and AI agents inside fields followed in September 2025. Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion and SmartSuite stay available as two-way data sources on every plan.
Automation and AI sit on top. Workflows (October 2025) adds triggers, AI steps and branches on every plan, loops from Basic, and webhooks and custom code from Pro; Ask AI answers questions inside data blocks; app agents and scheduled agents arrived in August 2026. The Softr MCP server (September 2026) lets an assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor work with your databases, apps and workflows, free on every plan and without spending Softr AI credits. It can also delete permanently. Records, tables and databases removed through MCP have no undo and no trash.
Through Softr MCP an assistant can permanently delete records, tables and databases with no undo or trash. View-only tokens cannot delete, so use one unless the assistant must write.
The bill is per workspace, the extras are per person
Pricing starts with the workspace. Each workspace carries its own plan, and the plan price already includes a set number of builders and app users [1]. Annual billing is one upfront charge for 12 months, and Softr labels that toggle 2 months off. The grid below holds the figures that most often decide the tier.
Prices shown are what Softr lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT.
| Plan | Price billed monthly | Price billed annually | AI credits included | Builders included | App users included | Workflow actions a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 5 credits a month | up to 3 | 5 in total | 500 |
| Basic | $25 per month billed monthly | $19 per month billed annually ($228 a year) | 10 credits a month | 1 | Team 5 + Client 5 | 2,500 |
| Pro | $119 per month billed monthly, 50 credits | $99 per month billed annually ($1,188 a year) | 50 credits a month | 2 | Team 10 + Client 50 | 10,000 |
| Business | $395 per month billed monthly | $329 per month billed annually ($3,948 a year) | 100 credits a month | 3 | Team 30 + Client 100 | 25,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom |
By our arithmetic, paying yearly saves $72 a year on Basic, $240 a year on Pro and $792 a year on Business, so Basic saves about 2.9 months of its monthly price. Extra builders cost $6, $12 or $24 per builder per month billed monthly, or $5, $10 or $20 per builder per month billed annually, on Basic, Pro and Business respectively. Refunds apply only within 14 days of the first payment on a monthly subscription or 30 days of the first payment on a yearly one, by email.
AI credits come from one monthly pool per workspace, and every AI feature draws from it. Plan credits reset each month without rollover. Add-on packs exist on every plan, Free included, from +$10 per month for 100 credits to +$500 per month for 5,000 credits, at the same price in both billing terms, and unused add-on credits roll over for one month. At zero, AI features pause with no overage charge while the no-code editor keeps working. Softr publishes no per-action credit price, so watch usage in Plan and Billing; our Softr pricing guide covers taxes, plan changes and the 50% non-profit and education discount.
Anyone signing in with Gmail, Outlook or another free email domain is a Client user, even your own staff. Forecast Team and Client counts separately before picking a plan.
Team users, Client users and the counter behind your tier
Headcount drives the bill. Softr separates two kinds of people. A builder works in Softr Studio on apps, databases and workflows; an app user logs in to an app you have published. App users are counted as unique emails across all your published apps, deactivated users do not count, and builders can join an app as users without touching the allowance. Team users share a business email domain with at least one builder. Everyone else is a Client user, and Gmail, Outlook and other free domains always count as Client, even for your own staff.
Free has 5 app users in total with no split. Basic allows Team 5 + Client 5 and cannot buy more. Pro allows Team 10 + Client 50, Business Team 30 + Client 100. The counts are not interchangeable: a spare Team slot cannot hold a client. Extra users are sold only on Pro and Business [2]. On Pro an extra Team user costs $3 per month and an extra Client user $1 per month; on Business the rates are $5 and $2 per user per month. If an extra-user payment keeps failing, every user beyond the included allowance is deactivated until the payment is resolved.
Those extra-user charges are billed monthly even when the plan is paid yearly. Softr checks counts once a day, emails the owner when you go over and waits through a 7-day grace period before billing, prorated. Purchases stop at a per-plan limit, after which new users stay deactivated, and a drop in users earns no mid-cycle refund. Permissions climb the same ladder: Free and Basic offer only the Visitors and Logged-in users groups, while Pro adds three custom groups, advanced visibility rules, Google sign-in and removes Softr branding, so a portal where clients need different screens starts at Pro.
Basic is capped at Team 5 + Client 5 app users with no extra users for sale; extra users exist only on Pro and Business, billed monthly even on annual plans.
Where Softr stops: code, phones and Business-only switches
The no-code model has a hard edge. Softr exports no code and does not offer self-hosting of Softr apps [3]. Its own product page tells buyers who must self-host or own the full codebase that a code-generating tool fits better; Lovable, for example, generates code you can sync to Git and export. Getting data out of Softr means table downloads, the Export CSV & PDF action from Pro, user CSVs and database snapshots, not a one-click full export.
Phones are the second limit. Mobile means a progressive web app. Installable apps and push notifications sit on Business or higher, and Softr apps cannot be published to the iOS App Store or Google Play on any plan [4]. Offline use is not supported. On iPhones, push alerts arrive only after the user installs the app to the home screen. Softr also says it is not built for consumer mobile apps, games or software with heavy custom algorithms, which sets the boundary plainly.
Business also unlocks two-factor authentication for app users (August 2026), domain-restricted signup, global search, global data restrictions and your own AI provider key. Enterprise holds SSO with SAML or OpenID, SCIM, audit logs, SOC 2 report access and invoice payment; builders get multi-factor sign-in only through Enterprise SSO. Softr says it holds a SOC 2 Type II report covering its builder, databases and workflows, not the app you build, and hosts data in the EU (Germany) by default.
Nothing runs over. Workflow actions and AI credits pause rather than bill. Workflows stop at the monthly action limit until it renews or you upgrade; triggers and flow-control steps are free, but every action inside a loop counts once per item, and an AI step also spends AI credits. The record limits per workspace (5,000 on Free, 50,000 on Basic, 500K on Pro, 1M on Business) apply to Softr Databases only, while external sources keep their own ceilings, such as 100,000 records per app for Notion and Airtable's API call caps.
Loops start on Basic, and every action inside a loop counts once per item against the monthly action limit, and at the limit workflows pause until the limit renews or you upgrade.
What unhappy customers report, and how our score lands
G2 and Capterra lean clearly positive, while Trustpilot works best as a map of complaints: billing, support responsiveness, price and changes to older plans, including a price rise and fewer app users. Softr's current plans launched for new users in August 2024, and its changelog says existing customers kept their plans. Some one-star reviews describe shipping and a physical product sold under the Softr name, not softr.io, and we set those aside. Support grows with the plan, from email plus AI chat on Free and Basic to live chat on Pro and priority chat on Business; we found no phone line or published response times.
We rate Softr on separate axes, each from its own evidence. The breadth of what ships in one workspace and the predictable pause at zero AI credits pull the result up, while the Team and Client caps, the Business gate on mobile and 2FA, and the absence of code export pull it down.
Softr builds business apps on structured data (client portals, internal tools, intranets, CRMs, dashboards) and ships the pieces such an app needs in one workspace: Softr Databases, a built-in relational database with linked records, lookups, rollups, formulas, attachments and views (launched to all users June 2025); an interface builder with Lists, Table, Charts, Form, Map, Calendar and more on every plan; Softr Workflows, native automation with triggers, actions, AI steps, branches, loops, webhooks, Call API and custom code (October 2025); and users, sign-in, user groups and page, block and action visibility checked on the server side, with hosting on softr.app or a custom domain. Apps read external sources in real time with no stored copy, most with two-way sync (a REST API source is read-only): Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, SmartSuite and a REST API on every plan, ClickUp, monday.com and Supabase from Pro, HubSpot and SQL databases from Business, Salesforce and Snowflake on Enterprise; Migrate from Airtable (October 2026) copies a whole base, with its automations as draft workflows, into Softr Databases. The Vibe Coding Block (December 2025) adds a custom React component in TypeScript where the standard blocks stop, inheriting the app's theme, data connections and permissions. Limits per workspace are published: Softr Databases hold 5,000 records on Free, 50,000 on Basic, 500K on Pro and 1M on Business; file storage runs from 1 GB to 250 GB; automated backups start on Basic and record revision history runs from 7 days on Free to 90 days on Business. Held back by what it is not: Softr generates no code and offers no code export or self-hosting (Softr itself points those needs to code-generating tools); mobile means an installable PWA and push notifications on Business or higher only, with no App Store or Google Play apps and no offline use; custom user groups need Pro (3) or Business (10); two-factor authentication for app users, domain-restricted signup, global data restrictions and global search need Business; SSO, SCIM and audit logs need Enterprise; and workflows pause at the plan's monthly action limit (500 on Free up to 25,000 on Business).
AI runs through the whole product rather than being the product: the AI Co-Builder (March 2026) turns one prompt into a database with sample data, pages, navigation, user groups with permissions and a theme, may ask clarifying questions first, and in an existing app adds blocks, pages, charts and action buttons; everything it builds stays editable in the visual editor and builders switch between prompting and editing at will. Around it sit the Vibe Coding Block for custom components with version history and rollback, Database AI Agents in fields (September 2025), Ask AI chat on data blocks (July 2025), AI steps in workflows on models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral and DeepSeek, the Workflows and Database AI Co-builders (December 2025) and Softr Agents, app agents and scheduled agents (August 2026). The Softr MCP server (September 2026) lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants build apps, databases and workflows without spending Softr AI credits, and each published app can act as its own MCP server for its users. When credits run out AI features pause without any charge while the no-code editor keeps working. Held back by the design itself: the Co-Builder composes Softr's existing blocks and does not write a code base, so anything outside the blocks rests on single Vibe Coding components, and recompiling such a block resets its actions to default permissions; Softr's own docs say multi-step form branching must be set by hand, complex automations may need manual work and system pages such as sign-in cannot get AI custom blocks; plan mode is only in progress on Softr's roadmap; the included AI credit pool is small (5 a month on Free, 10 on Basic, 50 on Pro, 100 on Business) with no per-action price list, and every AI feature draws from that one pool; plan credits reset monthly with no rollover; and bring-your-own API keys for AI actions and agents need Business.
Integration is where Softr started: apps sit directly on Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, SmartSuite or any REST API on every plan, with real-time two-way sync for most sources, and on ClickUp, monday.com and Supabase from Pro, HubSpot and SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, MariaDB) from Business and Salesforce and Snowflake on Enterprise; Zoho CRM became a native source in August 2026 and Microsoft Excel in June 2026, and BigQuery can be read as a read-only source. Softr's comparison table lists 51 integrations on Free and Basic, 66 on Pro, 79 on Business and 82 on Enterprise (November 2026), covering workflow triggers and actions for tools such as Stripe, Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Salesforce, Notion, Jira, DocuSign, QuickBooks, Xero and Twilio. Softr Databases connect to Zapier (July 2025), Make.com and n8n (August 2025); the Softr API covers users and the Database API with a personal access token, and the Softr API and MCP row is ticked on every plan; the Softr MCP server and App MCP are free on every plan, and Softr became an official connector on Claude and ChatGPT in October 2026; a Softr CLI covers the account, workflows and Softr Databases. Held back by plan gates and outside limits: webhook triggers, Call API and Run code in workflows need Pro, HubSpot and SQL need Business, Salesforce, Snowflake and the Audit Logs API need Enterprise, some API endpoints are limited to higher plans; records in synced tables cannot be added or edited; Airtable's own per-base request limit and its plan API call caps still apply and Softr cannot bypass them; several integrations (the AI providers, the Xano Data Connector add-on) run on your own account and plan on the other side; and two-way user sync does not cover BigQuery or the REST API.
Built for non-coders: start from a prompt, one of Softr's free templates (which copy the interface and a Softr Database with sample data) or a blank app, then keep editing visually; the AI Co-Builder uses the same configurations as the visual editor, so nothing it builds is locked behind code, and Softr says editing in the visual editor spends no AI credits. Sign-in, user groups, permissions and hosting come with the app, previews can be run as any user or group, unpublished apps stay private, and changes go live on re-publishing; the editor keeps working when AI credits run out and nothing is charged as overage. Softr Databases need no API keys or rate-limit management, and Migrate from Airtable (October 2026) copies a base without touching the original. Held back by how much a builder has to track: app users are counted as unique emails across all published apps and split into Team users (same business email domain as a builder) and Client users (Gmail and other free domains), each capped per plan; builders and app users are different counts; extra users are billed after a grace period; workflow actions are counted per step and once per item inside a loop, and workflows pause at the monthly limit; many plan gates (custom groups on Pro, PWA and 2FA on Business, SSO on Enterprise); external sources bring their own limits (Airtable's API limits, synced tables that cannot be edited); and Softr's help center still mixes current plan names with legacy names and older plan gates, which a builder has to read past.
Softr is priced per workspace, not per user: the plan price includes builders, app users and AI credits, apps are unlimited on every plan and visitors are not counted. Free is $0 per workspace with up to 3 builders, 5 app users in total, 5 AI credits a month, 5,000 records and 500 workflow actions a month, and Softr says its Free plan is free forever. Basic costs $25 per month billed monthly or $19 per month billed annually ($228 a year, paid upfront); Pro $119 per month billed monthly or $99 per month billed annually ($1,188 a year); Business $395 per month billed monthly or $329 per month billed annually ($3,948 a year); Enterprise is custom. Softr labels yearly billing 2 months off; by our arithmetic annual billing saves $72 a year on Basic, $240 on Pro and $792 on Business. AI credit add-ons run on every plan including Free at +$10 per month for 100 credits up to +$500 per month for 5,000, the same in both terms, with add-on credits rolling over for one month; at zero credits AI pauses with no overage charge. A 50% discount for non-profits and education institutions is claimed through Softr's form, and the pricing FAQ gives a full refund within a first-payment window. Held back by steep steps and per-head extras: Basic includes 1 builder and Team 5 + Client 5 app users and cannot buy more users; Pro is +$94 per month billed monthly over Basic and Business +$276 over Pro; extra builders cost $6, $12 or $24 per builder per month billed monthly ($5, $10 or $20 billed annually) on Basic, Pro and Business; extra app users exist only on Pro (Team $3, Client $1 per user per month) and Business (Team $5, Client $2), billed monthly even on annual plans, up to a limit; the PWA, push notifications, app-user 2FA, HubSpot and SQL sources and bring-your-own AI keys need Business; extra custom domains cost $15 per month or $13 per month billed annually; and the included AI credits are small for an AI app builder.
Support is tiered on the pricing page: email and AI chat on Free and Basic, live chat added on Pro, priority live chat, personalized onboarding and a monthly AMA on Business, and VIP live chat, a customer success manager, a shared Slack or Microsoft Teams channel and custom agreements and SLAs on Enterprise; certified solution partners can be hired separately from Basic. On reliability and security, as Softr describes them: Softr says it holds a SOC 2 Type II report (audit announced March 2024, changelog June 2024) covering the builder, Softr Databases and Workflows but not the app a customer builds; Softr says data is hosted in the EU (Germany) by default, with Softr Databases in the AWS EU Region; data is encrypted in transit and at rest, credentials for external sources stay server-side, and the DPA sets breach notice and a sub-processor objection process; the Terms (effective December 2025) commit to a platform availability on an annual average and to daily platform backups, and automated database backups run every 3 days on Basic and daily from Pro. Held back by no phone support and no published response times, SLAs only on Enterprise, SOC 2 report access only on Enterprise, no self-serve two-factor authentication for builders' own accounts (MFA only through Studio SSO on Enterprise), no HIPAA claim (it depends on the data source), no ISO 27001 certificate of its own, a Terms clause that lets Softr downgrade an overdue account to Free after a warning, and content deleted eight weeks after termination, with the data available on request by email during that period; the Terms commit to 99% availability a year.
Mean of each platform's displayed rating with at least 30 reviews, weighted by review count (read November 2026): Trustpilot 4.4 from 73 reviews, G2 4.7 (its review count differs between indexed snapshots, every one above 30) and Capterra 4.7 from 64 reviews give 4.7, so the axis rests mostly on G2. Trustpilot's few negative reviews cluster on billing and charges, support responsiveness and price or app-user changes on older plans; some one-star reviews there describe a different physical product sold under the Softr name and are not about softr.io. That is a map of complaints, not a measure of all users. G2 and Capterra were read from the search index, which is not held against the vendor. No ad-hoc adjustment is applied.
docs.softr.io is broad and specific: pages on pricing and plans (Team and Client users, extra users and builders, grace periods, downgrades), AI credits (what spends them, rollover, what happens at zero), billing and cancellation, every data source with its plan and sync behaviour, Softr Databases and the Database API, Workflows (what counts as an action, triggers, AI steps, custom code), users, user groups, global data restrictions and SSO, the AI Co-Builder with its stated limitations, the Vibe Coding Block, Agents, Softr MCP and App MCP with their deletion risk, the Softr CLI, migration from Airtable, mobile PWAs and publishing; a changelog dated entry by entry, a public roadmap, dated legal pages (Terms effective December 2025, Privacy Policy updated October 2026) and the Softr Academy with video courses. Held back by a help center that was not updated with the August 2024 pricing: many pages still use the legacy Starter and Professional plan names and older gates that contradict the pricing page (blocks such as Calendar, Chart, Kanban and Map gated on paid plans, the PWA on Professional, conditional forms on Professional, SSO as a Business add-on, older extra-user and trial wording), the update stamps on docs pages are bulk rebuild dates that date nothing, and Softr's product, use-case and comparison pages carry old Free and price figures and Softr's own claims about rivals, which leaves the pricing page, the legal pages, the current pricing-and-plans docs and the dated changelog as the reliable sources.
Weighted across the axes above (weights reflect what actually drives the decision in this category). How we score →
Those axes add up to 3.8/5, a score for a platform that is strong inside its lane and open about where that lane ends. Sentiment counts as one signal among several, and the complaint themes above point at plan changes and billing more than at the builder itself. We read them as a map of what goes wrong for some customers, not as a trend or a share of users.
Who should pay, and at which tier
Start small. Free suits a pilot: 5 app users in total, a Softr badge, no custom domain and 500 workflow actions a month. Basic adds a custom domain and light branding, with one builder included, but its Team 5 + Client 5 allowance has no room to grow. Pro is the first tier built for a real client portal, with 50 Client users, custom groups, no branding and webhook, Call API and Run code steps in workflows. Business brings mobile installs, app-user 2FA, HubSpot and SQL data sources and 100 Client users.
Before choosing between Pro plus extra users and Business, put your expected Team and Client counts into Softr's calculator. Teams that already live in Airtable should read our Softr vs Airtable comparison, since the October 2026 importer copies a whole base into Softr Databases, with Airtable automations arriving as draft workflows. Buyers who need source code, native store apps or offline field work are better served by the tools in our Softr alternatives guide.
Frequently asked questions
Who is behind Softr?+
Softr is run by Softr Platforms GmbH, based in Berlin, Germany, with Mariam Hakobyan and Artur Mkrtchyan as managing directors. Softr launched in August 2020.
Is there a Softr free trial?+
Softr's FAQ says everyone gets a free trial at sign-up with no credit card required, and that the trial can be extended once by choosing a specific plan. Softr says its separate Free plan is free forever.
What happens to my apps if I cancel a paid Softr plan?+
The plan stays active to the end of the monthly or annual cycle, then the workspace returns to Free and paid-only features stop. Users over the Free allowance stay deactivated.
Does Softr train AI models on my data?+
Softr's Terms say its AI tools process data only when you use them and do not address training. Its Enterprise page states no training or storage of your data by LLM providers, and no opt-out setting is described for other plans.
The bottom line
Softr earns its place when the job is a secure, logged-in app on structured business data and nobody on the team wants to maintain code. The AI Co-Builder speeds up the first draft, but the visual editor, Softr Databases and Workflows do the lasting work, and editing without AI never stops. Budget around the counter that matters most, Team versus Client users, check which features sit on Business, and accept that your app lives on Softr for good. Within those terms, our score reflects a dependable platform at a per-workspace price.
