The best Wistia alternative depends on which part of Wistia you are replacing. For marketing video hosting on a budget, SproutVideo is the closest match: its Sprout plan is $35 a month billed annually, with 400 GB of storage, 5 seats and a white-label player. Vimeo Standard is $25 per seat a month billed annually, for teams that want the Vimeo ecosystem. For quick async recordings, Loom Business is $18 per user a month. Wistia has no paywall. To sell videos, Uscreen Starter is $49 a month for up to 100 subscribers. Wistia still wins when A/B tests, forms and heatmaps must live in one per-account plan: Business is $79 a month billed annually, with 3 users included.

What you give up, and gain, by leaving Wistia

Wistia prices per account, not per seat, and that shapes every comparison below. Business costs $79 a month billed annually or $99 billed monthly, includes 3 users, and adds each extra user at $25 a month on annual billing[1]. That buys an ad-free branded player, CTAs and forms, heatmaps, A/B tests and Channels, the branded video hubs that double as podcast feeds. CRM sync is a separate tier. Engagement data in HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot needs Business + Signals, at $329 a month billed annually or $412 billed monthly.

Three gaps push teams elsewhere. Wistia has no paywall or built-in way to sell videos. Wistia says it does not meet HIPAA requirements and signs no BAAs, which rules it out for patient video. Its webinars are separate plans starting at $429 a month billed annually, and hosts must use a desktop Chromium browser such as Chrome or Edge. Plans also changed in March 2026, so pages naming Pro, Advanced or Premium describe legacy plans. Wistia gives no refunds for cancellations or downgrades; our Wistia pricing guide covers the billing rules.

⚠️
Watch out
CRM sync is not in Wistia Business

Engagement data in HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot needs Wistia's Business + Signals tier at $329 a month billed annually, so compare rivals against that tier if CRM sync is the reason you use Wistia.

Hosting rivals for marketing video

SproutVideo: the closest like-for-like swap

SproutVideo is the nearest match to Wistia's core job: hosting video on your own site with a player you control. Seed costs $12 a month billed annually or $15 monthly, with 150 GB of storage and 2 seats; Sprout costs $35 a month billed annually or $45 monthly, with 400 GB, 5 seats, viewer logins and a customizable video website[2]. The player is white label on every plan. Extra storage and bandwidth are billed per GB instead of stopping playback, and annual plans pool the allowance across the year.

For five users, the gap is large. By our arithmetic, Wistia Business with two extra users runs $129 a month on annual billing, against $35 a month for SproutVideo Sprout on the same billing. SproutVideo also offers a 30-day trial with every feature and no card, plus prorated plan changes. We did not find heatmaps, A/B tests or CRM engagement sync on SproutVideo's pricing page. If they matter, confirm them during that trial. Do it before migrating.

Toolkit tip
Compare at your real headcount

Wistia charges per account with 3 users included, while Vimeo, Loom, Tella and Descript charge per seat. Price both at the team size you will have next year, not today.

Vimeo: per-seat pricing, with live events higher up

Vimeo charges per seat, so the comparison turns on your headcount. Starter is $12 per seat a month billed annually ($20 monthly), Standard is $25 per seat ($41 monthly) with 5 seats included, and Advanced, where live events begin, is $75 per seat ($125 monthly) with 10 seats included. Vimeo's pricing page does not state the checkout total for those seats. Price your headcount at Vimeo's checkout before setting it against Wistia Business at $79 a month billed annually for 3 users. Vimeo also has heatmaps in its video analytics, lead capture and CTAs from Standard, and HubSpot-style marketing integrations from Advanced. Against Vimeo, Wistia's clear edges are A/B testing and the contact-level depth of Signals. Vimeo On Demand closes on 20 November 2026. Our Vimeo vs Wistia comparison goes feature by feature.

Vidyard: sales video with AI avatars

Vidyard aims at sales teams more than marketing sites. Its Free plan allows 5 recorded videos a month of up to 30 minutes each, plus 15 AI videos. Starter, bought online or tried free for 14 days, adds unlimited recording, full analytics, a branded sharing page and CTA templates. CRM and marketing automation integrations start on Teams, which is custom priced through sales. The Video Agent add-on creates personalized videos from buyer actions and connects to Salesforce, HubSpot and Marketo. The pricing page text we read carried no dollar figures.

Recording tools for async video

Loom: quick screen messages for the whole team

Loom fills the gap Soapbox left when Wistia shut it down on 1 September 2024; Wistia's own recording now lives in its recording studio. Loom Business is $18 per user a month with unlimited videos and recording time, 4K and branding removal, while Business + AI is $24 per user a month and adds auto titles, summaries and editing by transcript[3]. The free Starter plan caps each person at 25 videos of 5 minutes, in 720p. Loom belongs to Atlassian.

Per-user pricing still comes out low. Loom's page lists the $18 without naming its billing term, and says annual billing saves up to 17%. By our arithmetic, three Loom Business users cost $54 a month at that listed rate, against $79 a month for Wistia Business billed annually; at five users the totals are $90 and $129. Loom stays cheaper at every team size on either term. It is built for messages to colleagues and prospects, though, not for a marketing site's player, forms and Channels. Buy it for the recording habit.

Toolkit tip
Keep recording separate from hosting

A recorder such as Loom or Tella can sit alongside a host. Decide which job you are replacing before you move the whole library.

Tella: polished recordings with a custom domain

Tella sits between Loom and an editor. Pro is $13 per user a month billed annually, with unlimited videos, 4K export, analytics and 3,000 monthly credits for Tella Agent, a beta AI editor that works from a chat. Premium is $19 per user a month billed annually and adds a custom domain, domain restriction and branding removal. One clip can run up to 6 hours, and Tella offers a migration tool for Loom libraries. Free trials get no credits.

Editing and podcast studios

Descript: transcript editing and dubbing

Descript is an editor first. Hobbyist is $16 per person a month billed annually ($24 monthly), with 10 media hours and 1080p export without a watermark. Creator is $24 per person a month billed annually ($35 monthly), with 30 media hours and 4K export, for up to 3 people. Business is $50 per person a month billed annually ($65 monthly) and adds dubbing in 30 languages and Brand Studio, for up to 5 people. Transcription covers 25 languages, and the free plan gives 60 media minutes a month.

Riverside: remote recording and small webinars

Riverside records remote guests and runs live sessions. Pro costs $24 a month billed annually or $35 monthly, and Webinar $79 a month billed annually or $99 monthly. Registration-based webinars need the Webinar plan, which allows up to 100 registrants; Business, priced through sales, raises that to 10,000. Billed annually, Webinar comes to $948 a year. A team that only needs small webinars pays far less here than on Wistia's Webinars plan, at $429 a month billed annually for 500 attendees.

VEED: browser editing billed per editor

VEED is a browser editor charged per seat, multiplied by the number of editors and billed when users are invited. Paid plans include subtitle generation under a fair-use limit of 50 hours a month. A free trial exists only for enterprise customers with at least 3 users. Cancelling means turning off auto-renewal, with access to the end of the cycle. Our capture held no price we could quote.

Selling video or chasing free reach

Uscreen: when the video is the product

Uscreen exists for the job Wistia declines: selling video. Starter is $49 a month with no subscriber fee, but it caps you at 100 subscribers on a Uscreen-branded domain. Growth is $149 a month plus $1.99 per subscriber, with a custom domain, and App Essentials is $449 a month plus $0.99 per subscriber, adding iOS and Android apps[4]. Uscreen says the two meet at 300 paying members, at $746 a month each. Pricing is monthly only, with a 14-day trial.

YouTube: reach, with ads you do not control

YouTube trades control for audience. Unlisted videos play for anyone with the link and stay out of search, and verified accounts can upload up to 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less; unverified ones stop at 15 minutes. The catch for a brand site is the ads. Outside the Partner Program, YouTube may still serve ads on your videos without paying you a share. Wistia's player is ad-free and carries your branding. Our Wistia vs YouTube guide weighs that trade.

How to read the ratings

Read the ratings by job, not by rank. A recording tool and a hosting platform are scored by different buyers doing different work, so a gap between Loom and Wistia says little about which player belongs on your product pages. Billing shapes sentiment too, since per-seat and per-account tools frustrate people at different moments. Ask a narrower question. Which tool did teams your size praise for the task you are hiring it to do?

Frequently asked questions

What happens to my Wistia videos if I cancel?+

After cancelling you lose access to your media, at once or at the end of the billing cycle if you choose that, and Wistia does not guarantee to keep it, so export your videos and analytics before you switch.

How much notice does Wistia need to stop auto-renewal?+

Wistia's Terms require notice at least 2 months before the term ends to stop an automatic renewal, and Wistia gives no refunds for unused time.

Is there a free alternative to Wistia?+

Wistia's own Free plan gives 25 GB, 1 user and Wistia branding on the player. Loom's free Starter plan allows 25 videos of 5 minutes per person, and Vidyard Free allows 5 recorded videos a month.

Which alternatives offer SSO?+

Wistia offers SAML SSO and Okta SCIM on Enterprise. Loom and Descript include SSO and SCIM on Enterprise, and Tella sells them as add-ons on any paid plan.

The bottom line

No single rival replaces all of Wistia, so start from the job. SproutVideo is the cheapest like-for-like host, Vimeo suits per-seat teams, with live events from its Advanced plan, Loom and Tella cover async recording, Descript and Riverside cover editing and podcast studios, and Uscreen covers selling. Wistia stays worth its price when the marketing layer matters: A/B tests, forms, heatmaps and Channels in one per-account plan at $79 a month billed annually for 3 users, with Signals as the separate step for CRM sync.
