Zoho Desk costs $0 to $50 per agent per month, depending on the edition and the billing period. Free holds 3 users at $0. Express is $7 per agent per month billed annually or $9 billed monthly, with a hard cap of 5 users. Standard is $14 per agent per month billed annually or $20 billed monthly; Professional is $23 or $35; Enterprise is $40 or $50 [1]. Taxes come on top. Our verdict: for most small teams the real decision is Standard versus Professional. Express stops at five agents and has no public knowledge base, while Professional is the first edition with telephony, native Zia generative AI, Blueprint and round robin.
Five editions, one per-agent price list
Prices shown are what Zoho Desk lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT.
| Edition | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Users | First things this edition adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 3 | Email ticketing, private knowledge base, 2 macros |
| Express | $7 per agent per month | $9 per agent per month | Max 5 | Social channels, 1 workflow rule, 10 custom fields |
| Standard | $14 per agent per month | $20 per agent per month | Unlimited | WhatsApp and instant messaging, public knowledge base, Answer Bot |
| Professional | $23 per agent per month | $35 per agent per month | Unlimited | Telephony, native Zia generative AI (US, EU, IN, AU, JP, CA data centers), Blueprint, round robin, 10 departments |
| Enterprise | $40 per agent per month | $50 per agent per month | Unlimited | SalesIQ live chat, Guided Conversations, sandbox, audit log, 50 light agents |
One license covers one active agent, and every agent in the account must sit on the same edition. That rule matters more than any single price. If one supervisor needs Blueprint or telephony, the whole team moves to Professional; our Zoho Desk review maps which edition unlocks each feature. Free has no workflow rules, custom fields or public knowledge base, so it suits plain email ticketing for a tiny team; our guide to the Free plan lists what it includes. Express adds social channels and custom domain mapping, then stops hard at five users.
Every paid edition comes with a 15-day trial that needs no credit card, and you can switch editions while it runs. When the trial ends without a purchase, the account drops to Free instead of charging you. Upgrading mid-trial forfeits the remaining trial days. Test the edition your hardest requirement points to. Not the cheapest one.
All agents share one edition, so the single feature you cannot live without (telephony, Blueprint, WhatsApp) sets the price for the whole team.
Annual billing saves 20% to 34%, not one flat rate
Zoho's pricing toggle promises savings of up to 34%, and that ceiling applies to Professional only. Per agent, a year billed annually costs $84 on Express, $168 on Standard, $276 on Professional and $480 on Enterprise, by our arithmetic. Twelve months billed monthly cost $108, $240, $420 and $600 for the same four editions. Annual billing is therefore about 22%, 30%, 34% and 20% cheaper, edition by edition. Enterprise has the smallest gap. Professional has the widest.
Monthly billing still wins for short stays. It is cheaper than a full year only if you stay at most 9 months on Express or Enterprise, 8 months on Standard, or 7 months on Professional. Past those points the annual plan costs less, even counting unused months. Annual billing also shields you from list-price changes, because under Zoho's Terms an increase waits until your current billing cycle expires. Pilots belong on monthly. Settled teams belong on annual.
What a real team pays
Five agents or fewer: the Express ceiling
Five agents on Express come to $35 a month billed annually ($420 a year) or $45 billed monthly, by our arithmetic. The sixth hire changes everything. Six agents force Standard, which is 6 × $14 = $84 a month billed annually, more than double the five-agent bill for one extra person. A team that needs WhatsApp or a public help center faces a similar jump without hiring: five agents on Standard come to $70 a month billed annually. If growth past five is likely this year, price Standard from the start.
Ten agents across the upper editions
At ten agents billed annually, Standard comes to $140 a month ($1,680 a year), Professional to $230 a month ($2,760 a year) and Enterprise to $400 a month ($4,800 a year). The $90 monthly step to Professional buys telephony, Zia generative AI with no AI charge in the US, EU, IN, AU, JP and CA data centers, ten departments, round robin and webhooks. The next $170 step mostly buys SalesIQ live chat, chatbots, sandbox testing, audit logs and Deluge custom functions. Most ten-person teams stop at Professional.
Light agents and extra departments
Light agents can view tickets and add private comments but cannot reply to tickets or assign them, which fits engineers or sales reps who only need context. They are an add-on from Standard at $6 per light agent per month; Enterprise includes 50, and Free and Express have none. Because Enterprise costs $17 more per agent per month billed annually, it pays for itself once you need more than about 2.8 light agents per full agent, by our arithmetic. Ten agents with 29 light agents cost $404 a month on Professional versus $400 on Enterprise. Above 17 full agents, the 50 free seats cannot cover the gap.
Free, Express and Standard run a single department, Professional allows 10 and Enterprise 50. The department add-on is Enterprise only, at $7 per department per month billed monthly or $6 billed annually, up to 450 more. Sixty departments on Enterprise therefore add $60 a month billed annually.
Enterprise includes 50 light agents; with up to 17 full agents and enough light agents, it can cost less than Professional plus the light agent add-on, by our arithmetic.
Charges that sit outside the seat price
WhatsApp runs on prepaid IM credits at $2 per credit plus a 3% fee. Credits never expire but are non-refundable. Replies inside WhatsApp's 24-hour window are free only for the first 1,000 service messages per business number a month; after that they also use credits, and when the wallet hits zero, outgoing WhatsApp messages stop. Meta's own per-message pricing applies on top. API capacity beyond the daily allowance is sold separately in tiers per 1,000 daily credits, covered in our API guide. Neither charge touches a team that only works email.
Generative AI has two cost paths. Professional and Enterprise include native Zia generative AI with no separate charge, in the US, IN, AU, EU, JP and CA data centers. Express and Standard get generative features only with your own OpenAI key, and OpenAI bills that usage directly. Only one generative AI service can be active per organization. Zoho's pricing page also lists AI agents (access to pre-built agents in its Agent Store and up to 30M free tokens a month). Those differ from Zoho's pre-built Desk agents, Support Specialist and Resolution Expert, which are Enterprise only, in the US and IN data centers, for selected users on request.
Classic support is included with every paid edition: email around the clock and toll-free phone in business hours. Premium support costs 20% of the subscription fee and adds a 3-hour initial response; Enterprise support costs 25% of the annual fee with a minimum of 25 licenses [2]. On ten agents on Professional billed annually ($2,760 a year), Premium adds $552 a year, by our arithmetic.
Bundles, nonprofits and education
Zoho One, Zoho Service Plus and Zoho CRM Plus all include the help desk, but they are priced as bundles, so compare them as a whole stack. Zoho One offers a 30-day trial with no card; Service Plus offers 15 days. Inside these bundles the help desk gets Enterprise-level API credits and the department add-on. Zoho also lists special pricing for nonprofits and educational institutions without a published figure. Its nonprofit program, per Zoho's page, adds a one-time wallet credit and pays half of each purchase. The credits are non-refundable and cannot buy API credits, Marketplace extensions or Premium and Enterprise support.
Billing rules that change the real cost
Subscriptions renew automatically. To stop a renewal, tell Zoho at least seven days before the renewal date or downgrade to Free [3]. On an annual plan, set a reminder two weeks ahead. Seats added mid-cycle are billed prorated. Deactivated or deleted agents stay billed until you reduce the seat count yourself, so offboarding a person and trimming licenses are separate steps. Before closing an account, export your data: Zoho purges it from live systems within about six months and from backups three months later.
Refunds follow Zoho's refund policy. A monthly subscriber unhappy in the first month gets a full refund after contacting Zoho, and an annual subscriber gets one within the first 45 days; either way the account moves to Free [4]. Forgot to cancel? You have five business days after a monthly renewal, or 15 days after an annual one, to claim a full refund. After that, that renewal is not refunded. An annual plan downgraded mid-term earns a credit as a subscription extension, not cash. Zoho owes a prorated refund if it removes features you signed up for without a fix, and the Terms add one if you leave over Zoho's breach or within 30 days of a significant change to the Terms.
Removing a person does not reduce your bill: license seats stay billed until you lower the seat count, and renewals stop only with notice at least seven days ahead or a downgrade to Free.
How the bill compares with Freshdesk and Zendesk
Of the five rivals in our catalog, Freshdesk and Zendesk also price per agent per month and Help Scout and LiveChat per user per month (five users billed annually: $125 a month on Help Scout Standard and $95 a month on LiveChat's Text Essential, our arithmetic), while Gorgias prices per account by billable tickets, so it gets no per-agent total here. For five agents billed annually, Zoho Desk Standard comes to $70 a month and Freshdesk Growth to $95 a month, by our arithmetic. Freshdesk Growth and Zendesk Support Team both land at $95 a month for five agents billed annually. The inclusions differ sharply. Zendesk Support Team has no live chat, messaging or help center, and plain Freshdesk has no live chat; chat lives in Freshdesk Omni. Zoho Desk adds WhatsApp and live chat from Standard.
At ten agents billed annually, Zoho Desk Professional comes to $230 a month and Freshdesk Pro to $550, by our arithmetic. Zendesk Suite Team and Freshdesk Pro both come to $550 a month at that size. AI is metered differently. Freshdesk's AI agent includes 500 sessions once per account for new customers, then $49 per pack of 100 sessions. Zendesk includes 5 to 10 automated resolutions per agent a month, then $1.50 each committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Both rivals want 30 days' notice before renewal, against seven days here.
Frequently asked questions
Does Zoho Desk charge per ticket or per resolution?+
No. Zoho Desk is priced per agent per month; native Zia generative AI carries no extra charge on Professional and Enterprise in the US, EU, IN, AU, JP and CA data centers, while usage through your own OpenAI key is billed by OpenAI. WhatsApp messaging draws on prepaid IM credits ($2 per credit plus a 3% fee), and Meta's per-message pricing applies on top.
What happens to my setup if I downgrade?+
Your data is kept, but features above the new edition stop and are hidden. Workflow rules are disabled and must be re-enabled manually, and departments above the new limit are cut back.
Is Zoho service desk the same product as Zoho Desk?+
No. The term usually refers to ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, an IT service management product; Zoho Desk is the customer service help desk priced here.
How can I pay for Zoho Desk?+
Zoho accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal; yearly subscriptions can also be paid by bank transfer or check, while plans shorter than a year are card only. Taxes such as VAT, GST or sales tax are added on top.
The bottom line
At five and ten agents, the annual list prices here come in below the Freshdesk and Zendesk plans we compared, and they are list prices, not promotions. The cost traps are structural: one edition for everyone, a five-user wall on Express, deactivated agents billed until you cut seats, and a seven-day window to stop a renewal. Price the edition your hardest requirement forces, multiply by every agent, then choose annual billing only if you will stay past the break-even month. Standard fits most small teams; Professional earns its premium once you need phones or native AI.
