Figma Professional and Figma Organization are the two plans most growing teams choose between. Professional is one team; Organization is many teams under one admin. The price gap is large, and most of what Organization adds is administration, not design features: the canvas, Dev Mode and the AI tools are the same on both.

Prices are the US list prices read on 9 October 2026 [2]. Ratios and totals are our arithmetic.

The short answer

Stay on Professional while you have one team, no single sign-on requirement, and no need for shared fonts, branching or Code Connect. Move to Organization when you have several teams sharing a design system, an IT department that requires SSO and domain capture, or more than ten theming modes.

Toolkit tip

Upgrade at renewal time, not mid-term.

## Prices side by side
Seat Professional, annual Professional, monthly Organization, annual
Full $16 $20 $55
Dev $12 $15 $25
Collab $3 $5 $5
View Free Free Free

Organization is annual only [2]. By our arithmetic, a Full seat costs 3.4 times as much on Organization as on annual Professional, a Dev seat 2.1 times and a Collab seat 1.7 times.

What that means for real teams

Our calculations at list price, per year:

Team Professional, annual Organization
5 Full $960 $3,300
2 Full, 3 Dev, 5 Collab $996 $2,520
5 Full, 5 Dev, 10 Collab $2,040 $5,400

The Full seat drives the gap. A team that keeps Full seats for designers only feels the jump least.

Keep Full seats for designers only before comparing totals.

## How the two plans are described

Figma calls Professional its entry-level paid plan, a fit for a professional or part of a small team [128]. Its pricing page pitches Organization at a business that designs products across the organization and needs basic security [2].

That framing matters. Organization is priced for companies with an IT function, not for a growing studio.

One team or many

Professional is a single upgraded team [90]. Each plan can have an unlimited number of members and collaborators, and folders can nest ten levels deep [128]. Organization lets members see and join any team open to the organization, and create as many teams as they need [125].

If your designers already split into several teams on separate Professional plans, they are paying separately and cannot share libraries across them. That is the most common reason to move.

⚠️
Watch out

Organization cannot be downgraded self-serve.

## Libraries, fonts and design systems

Organization adds organization-wide libraries, custom fonts uploaded for all members, and library analytics that track component, style and variable usage across teams [125]. Variable modes rise from 10 per collection on Professional to 20 [93].

Code Connect, which links Figma components to production code, is available on Organization and not on Professional [93]. Organization-wide design systems and default libraries are Organization features too [93].

The premium per designer

By our arithmetic, ten Full seats cost US$1,920 a year on annual Professional and US$6,600 on Organization, a difference of US$4,680. Put another way, Organization costs US$39 more per designer per month.

That is the number to hold against the administration features below. If SSO, shared fonts and branching would not save each designer that much in time or risk, Professional is the better buy.

⚠️
Watch out

Online Organization plans cancel only in the last 30 days of the term.

## Code Connect, in practice

Code Connect links components in a code repository to components in Figma design files, so Dev Mode shows the real code for a component [163]. Figma's developer docs say it is available on a Dev or Full seat on Organization and Enterprise [163].

It also feeds the MCP server: with connections in place, coding agents get direct references to your actual components [163]. Code Connect UI can map one design component to several implementations, such as React, SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose and Vue [163]. For a company with a coded design system and AI-assisted development, this is the strongest technical reason to move.

Branching and merging

Branching lets a designer work on a separate copy of a file and merge it back [151]. It is an Organization feature [125].

For a design-system team shipping changes that many products consume, branching replaces a lot of manual coordination. For a team of three designers working on one product, it rarely earns its price.

Fonts on every device

Organization and team admins can upload custom fonts in .TTF and .OTF format, and those fonts appear for everyone in the organization without anyone installing them [226]. Figma notes this is also how Chromebook and Linux users get access to custom fonts [226]. Web fonts cannot be uploaded [226].

On Professional, each designer installs fonts locally. Admins should upload only fonts they own or license for use in Figma [226].

Library analytics in practice

Library analytics show how published components, styles and variables are used across teams, including how often a library's components were inserted in the last week [229]. They update daily and keep up to a year of history; style and variable tracking began on 10 October 2024 [229].

Any member with view or edit access to a library file can see its analytics; guests cannot [229]. For a design-system lead deciding what to deprecate, this is the evidence Professional cannot provide.

Dev seats on both plans

Dev Mode works the same way on both plans: anyone with a Full or Dev seat can use it, and people without one can request it through seat approval [119]. Developers who only need properties, measurements, code snippets and asset exports can stay on a free View seat [119].

What changes is the Dev seat price: US$12 a month on annual Professional against US$25 on Organization [2]. Engineering-heavy teams feel that difference as much as the Full-seat jump.

Security and identity

Organization adds SAML single sign-on, registered domains with domain capture, activity logs and SCIM user provisioning [125]. Figma documents SSO set-ups for Okta, OneLogin, Microsoft Entra ID and AD FS, plus custom SAML [125].

Setting seat types through SCIM, workspaces and guest restrictions remain Enterprise features [125]. Professional has password protection, prototype-only sharing and viewer restrictions, but no SSO [128].

Domain capture

Domain capture automatically adds anyone who signs up with a company email address to the organization [126]. It ends the common problem of designers buying their own Professional plans on company cards.

It also means the organization, not the individual, owns those accounts. Tell your designers before you switch it on.

Setting it up means verifying each domain with a TXT record in DNS, and subdomains must be verified separately [228]. Captured users can still join outside teams and organizations; restricting access to outside content is an Enterprise setting [228].

SCIM, and who controls seat cost

Organization supports SCIM provisioning, which keeps names and emails in step between your identity provider and Figma [126]. On Enterprise, SCIM can also set seat types, which Figma says gives admins more control over cost changes between billing cycles [126].

On Organization, seat types are still set in Figma's admin, by hand or through approval settings [91].

What happens to existing files

When domain capture is switched on, matching accounts join the organization at once, and files people left in the old Drafts to move space move into their organization drafts [228]. Files people created in their own Starter or Professional teams stay where they are [228].

Plan a short project to move those teams in; capture alone does not consolidate them.

Members and guests

In an organization, people whose email matches a registered domain are members; everyone else is a guest who can see only what they are invited to [125]. Guests cannot browse teams or use shared fonts, plugins or library analytics [125].

Figma's example is an agency invited to one team: its staff are guests and cannot reach anything outside that team [125]. On Professional there is no member and guest distinction [128].

Activity logs

Organization admins can see when people access, copy and share files, track permission and settings changes, and review actions by member, with IP addresses and times in UTC [230]. Logging starts when the plan is upgraded and is not applied retroactively [230].

Enterprise adds an Activity Logs API for security tooling [230]. For an audit, the start date is the detail to remember, and so is this: logs for a member can no longer be reviewed after that person is removed from the organization [230].

Account types on Professional

Professional has its own account distinction: full plan members and people with limited access [227]. It is simpler than the member and guest model, and it does not stop an outside collaborator from browsing what the team shares with them.

Admin roles

Organization admins manage members, billing and security settings, and see all teams, but they cannot manage a team unless they are also its team admin [125]. They can claim ownership of empty teams and perform limited bulk actions [125].

On Professional, the team can have as many admins as it needs [3]. The Organization model is stricter by design.

Plugins and widgets

Organization admins can manage which plugins and widgets are allowed, and teams can build private plugins and widgets for internal use [93]. Professional uses Community plugins only [93].

Organization and Enterprise admins also get a setting to switch website and app publishing from Sites and Make on or off [3].

Any member of an organization can publish an internal plugin, and internal plugins skip Figma's public review [225]. That now includes generative plugins built by prompting the Figma agent inside a design file [225].

AI credits

A Full seat includes 3,000 AI credits a month on Professional and 3,500 on Organization; other seats include 500 on both [94]. The extra 500 credits on a Full seat are worth little against a 3.4-times price difference.

Extra credits differ in billing. On Professional the credit subscription is month-to-month even on an annual plan; on Organization it is annual and can only be reduced in the renewal window [95]. Historic usage reports and CSV exports exist only on Organization and Enterprise [95].

MCP limits for developers

Dev and Full seats on both plans get up to 200 MCP tool calls a day; the per-minute limit rises from 10 on Professional to 15 on Organization [155]. Enterprise raises the daily limit to 600 [155].

Billing rhythm

Professional can be monthly or annual; seats added to an annual plan are billed monthly at the monthly price [90]. Organization charges the year up front and invoices additions every three months, prorated to the end of the term [91].

Figma's example: a plan starting on 1 January receives quarterly invoices on 1 April, 1 July and 1 October, and a fourth with the renewal on 1 January [91]. A Full seat approved on 15 September costs US$195.29 on the October invoice [91].

Self-serve or order form

Organization can be bought online by card, renewing automatically and managed in Figma, or through an order form with contract terms [91]. Order-form customers see the renewal banner 60 days ahead, and reducing seats may need a new order form before the 30-day window [91].

Some older multi-year agreements still use a quarterly true-up instead of prorated billing [91]. Ask which model you are on.

Renewals

Thirty days before renewal, Organization admins see a Review seats banner [91]. Assigned seats renew automatically; to reduce seats you first move people to free View seats [91].

Figma recommends pre-purchasing unassigned seats so incoming requests can be approved automatically [91]. That advice suits a growing company; a shrinking one should do the opposite.

Leaving each plan

Professional is canceled from admin settings and continues to the end of the paid period [137]. Organization needs a request to support [137], and online Organization purchases can be canceled only in the 30 days before the annual term ends [59].

One Trustpilot reviewer, a manager of a small engineering team, described missing that window after a downgrade request and being billed for another year; their advice was blunt: "If your team is under ~20 people and not everyone needs full seats, I would strongly recommend staying on the Professional plan" [167].

Unused seats on Organization

Another reviewer on Organization asked support to use money already paid for empty seats to cover new collaboration seats and was refused [167]. That matches Figma's rule: moving someone to View refunds nothing, and unassigned seats stay available until renewal [91].

Their summary: "We are literally being forced to pay more to use less." [167]

Moving up

Upgrading from Professional to Organization can be done online by an admin with a work email address; the unused part of the Professional subscription becomes a credit on the first Organization invoice [137]. Teams are moved into the organization, and people with other domains become guests [137].

Set aside an hour: teams are unavailable during the move [137].

Moving down

There is no self-serve path from Organization to Professional; downgrades go through support [137].

That asymmetry is the main risk of upgrading early. If you are unsure, upgrade at a time when you could live with a full year of Organization.

What stays the same

The design canvas, Dev Mode, FigJam, Slides, Make, Draw, Sites and Buzz are on both plans [128]. Sites publishing and template publishing in Slides and Buzz start on Professional [128]. Prototyping with variables and conditional logic is on both [93].

If your reason to upgrade is a design feature, check this list first; it is probably already on Professional.

Support

Both plans get email support from Figma's team, after the Fig AI chatbot; neither gets phone or live chat [152]. Organization buys no faster support channel on the published pages.

When Professional is enough

One team, no more than ten modes per variable collection, no SSO mandate, no need for branching or Code Connect, and a willingness to manage seats monthly. Most studios and startups fit that description for a long time.

When Organization pays for itself

Several teams duplicating libraries and fonts; an IT policy requiring SSO and domain capture; a design system maintained by a dedicated team that needs branching, analytics and Code Connect; or external agencies that should see only what they are invited to.

Billing groups are an Enterprise idea

Large companies often ask for cost centers. In Figma those are billing groups, which route seat requests to the right budget owner and sort people for internal accounting . Billing groups and workspaces are separate: billing groups organize money, workspaces organize work .

Both are Enterprise features [127]. On Organization, every seat is billed to one account.

What Enterprise adds on top

If Organization is close but not enough, Enterprise adds workspaces, seat types through SCIM, guest restrictions, an activity log API and billing groups, at US$90 per Full seat [125] [2]. It is sold through sales [137].

Frequently asked questions

Is Figma Organization worth it?+

When you need several teams sharing libraries and fonts, SSO with domain capture, branching or Code Connect. For one team without those needs, Professional is enough.

Can I get Figma Organization monthly?+

No. Organization and Enterprise are billed annually; only Professional has a monthly option.

## Verdict

Professional is the right default. Organization is an administration purchase: buy it for SSO, shared resources and control across teams, not for the design canvas, which is the same on both. Time the upgrade to your renewal, and remember that leaving Organization is harder than joining it.
