Freshdesk Omni is Freshdesk's ticketing, Freshchat's messaging and the full Freddy AI Agent Studio in one workspace, and for a new account it is the only way to get live web chat, WhatsApp, Instagram or SMS next to Freshdesk tickets. Freshworks' Omni pricing page lists Omni Growth at $29 per agent per month billed annually, or $35 per agent per month billed monthly.[1] By our arithmetic, that Omni seat costs $10 per agent per month more than a Freshdesk Growth seat and $9 less than a Freshdesk Growth seat plus a Freshchat Growth seat, all billed annually. Pick Omni when most agents answer chat. Email-only teams should skip it.

Omni, Freshchat and Freshcaller: which product is which

Freshdesk is the email-first help desk: emails, portal requests and web forms become tickets, and its web widget offers the knowledge base and forms but no live chat. Freshchat is the standalone chat and messaging product, formerly Freshdesk Messaging, and Freshcaller is the cloud phone system. Freshdesk Omni, launched on 3 August 2023 as the Customer Service Suite, merges the first two with AI Agent Studio in one Command Center and sells Freshcaller back as its Voice add-on. Freshworks itself says teams that run almost entirely on email may be better served by plain Freshdesk.

The channel gap is concrete. Standalone Freshdesk accounts created since December 2025 get no WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS or live chat, and no Chat AI Agent; the Email AI Agent is the only one they can build. Older Freshdesk accounts keep an existing WhatsApp integration but cannot receive messages from WhatsApp users who appear only by username, and Freshworks tells them to move to Omni. Omni adds web chat with topics, WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS, a mobile chat SDK for iOS and Android, and chatbots.

⚠️
Watch out
Upgrades cannot be undone

Moving a classic Omnichannel or Omni 2023 account to Omni 2025 is irreversible once confirmed, and live chat settings must be rebuilt.

What Omni costs, and when buying the pieces is cheaper

Omni is billed per agent per month, every agent sits on the same plan, and the 14-day trial runs on Enterprise features without a card. Freshworks' Omni pricing page lists three plans:

Freshdesk Omni plan Billed monthly Billed annually Day pass
Omni Growth $35 per agent/month $29 per agent/month $5 per pass
Omni Pro $95 per agent/month $79 per agent/month $10 per pass
Omni Enterprise $143 per agent/month $119 per agent/month $15 per pass

Every Omni plan gives new customers 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions once per account, usable until spent; after that, packs cost $49 per 100 sessions, are added to the current billing cycle, and unused purchased sessions do not carry over to the next cycle. Freddy AI Copilot is sold on Omni Pro and Enterprise at $29 per agent per month billed annually; Omni Growth lists no Copilot. Freddy AI Insights comes only with Omni Enterprise. Annual billing saves about 17% on each Omni plan by our arithmetic: $348 per agent a year on Growth against $420 paid month by month. Cancellation takes effect only at the end of the paid term.

Now the comparison buyers actually face. A Freshdesk seat plus a Freshchat seat, both billed annually, comes to $38 per agent per month on Growth, $104 on Pro and $168 on Enterprise, against $29, $79 and $119 for the matching Omni plan. The math flips at partial coverage. Omni charges every agent its premium over Freshdesk ($10, $24 and $30 per agent per month billed annually), while Freshchat seats go only to agents who chat. Separate seats stay cheaper on list price while fewer than about 53% of agents chat on Growth, 49% on Pro and 38% on Enterprise.

Take ten agents on Growth, four of them on chat: ten Freshdesk seats plus four Freshchat seats cost $266 a month billed annually ($3,192 a year), against $290 a month ($3,480 a year) for ten Omni seats. But you run two products, and a later move has no direct upgrade path from Freshchat to Omni; Freshchat settings are rebuilt by hand. Freshchat's own pricing page lists Free at $0 for up to 10 agents and Growth at $19 per agent per month billed annually ($23 billed monthly), with WhatsApp and SMS starting on Freshchat Growth. Freshworks' terms state that payments are non-refundable and renew plans unless your notice arrives at least 30 days before expiry, so set a reminder 45 to 60 days ahead; our Freshdesk pricing guide has the details.

Toolkit tip
Count chat seats before choosing

Separate Freshdesk and Freshchat seats cost less on list price only while fewer than about 53% (Growth), 49% (Pro) or 38% (Enterprise) of your agents work chat. Above that share, Omni is cheaper per agent.

Connecting the messaging channels, one by one

An admin connects each channel, and each turns messages into tickets in the same inbox with its own routing group, threading interval and CSAT settings. Start with the channel your customers already use:

WhatsApp carries a separate bill. Since 1 October 2026 Meta charges service messages per message, with 1,000 free a month per business phone number, and charges templates when delivered. Freshworks adds a 20% markup to the total Meta bills and invoices it to you.[2] Instagram has its own trap: the default threading interval is zero, so every new message opens a separate ticket until you change it, and Meta closes the reply window seven days after the customer's last message.

⚠️
Watch out
WhatsApp is billed on top

Meta's per-message WhatsApp charges reach you through Freshworks with a 20% markup, separate from Omni seats. Templates also need Meta approval first.

Adding phone calls with the Voice add-on

Voice is a per-seat add-on on top of an Omni plan. Freshworks' Omni pricing page lists it at $15 per agent per month billed annually or $18 billed monthly on Growth, $39 or $47 on Pro, and $69 or $83 on Enterprise. The Voice plan must match the Omni plan, and voice seats cannot exceed agent seats. Each account gets 2,000, 3,000 or 5,000 incoming minutes a month by plan.[3] Beyond that, browser-answered local inbound calls cost $0.013 a minute, and numbers, outbound calls, recording and transcription use prepaid phone credits.

By our arithmetic, an Omni seat with voice comes to $44 per agent per month on Growth, $118 on Pro and $188 on Enterprise, billed annually; five Growth agents with voice cost $2,640 a year. The plan matters more here than for chat. IVR, call monitoring, barging, callbacks, bring-your-own-carrier, SIP phones and the power dialer start on Pro; abandoned-call metrics and Freddy post-call transcription are Enterprise only. Freshcaller cannot run while a CTI telephony app is on, so teams on another phone system choose one path.

Routing, queues and the Chat AI Agent

Real-time channels need faster routing than email. Round-robin and load-based assignment through Omniroute, and channel-specific queues, start on Omni Pro; skill-based routing is Enterprise only. Omni Enterprise adds Quick Automations, which act within 30 seconds on web chat, SDK, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram messages, with one automation per channel source. Below Enterprise, a stalled chat gets no 30-second follow-up, because ordinary automations run follow-ups only hourly.

The Chat AI Agent exists only on Omni, one active agent per widget or channel. Switching on Start with AI Agent for a channel hands every new ticket from it to the AI agent by default. A chat session covers 24 hours and starts as soon as a welcome-workflow message goes out, even if the customer never replies. At zero sessions, agents stop taking new queries and chats fall to people. By our arithmetic, 1,000 sessions beyond the free 500, ten packs of 100 used within one billing cycle, cost $490. Our Freddy AI playbook covers the studio.

💡
Toolkit tip
Watch welcome messages on chat

A Chat AI Agent session starts when a welcome-workflow message is sent, even if the visitor never replies. Keep that message off busy pages until your session budget is set.

Moving from Omnichannel classic, Omni 2023 or Freshchat

Freshworks is upgrading older versions to Omni 2025 in phases. Classic Omnichannel accounts got a self-serve flow between April and June 2026 and may need to reconnect channels. Omnichannel classic and Omni 2023 accounts that use Freshchat follow a three-stage wizard from July 2026, with Freshchat active until the final step.[4] Accounts on that wizard that use AI agents, chatbots, customer journeys or campaigns, or custom modules are not yet eligible. The upgrade is irreversible once confirmed. The per-agent license cost stays the same, but day passes follow current prices.

Expect rework. Live chat configurations do not carry over, the mobile SDK is set up by hand, and scheduled automations are rebuilt as Quick Automations. Where an account had no new chats for 90 days, old chat data is removed and stays readable for 30 days in a separate Freshchat trial account. Standalone Freshchat customers open a new Omni account and set it up manually. Test channels in the trial first. It allows one Instagram handle, one Facebook page and one WhatsApp number.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free version of Freshdesk Omni?+

No. Omni offers a 14-day trial on Enterprise features with no card. Freshchat's Free plan for up to 10 agents is a separate product, and the Freshdesk Free program covers Freshdesk only, not Omni.

Can I keep my current WhatsApp number in Omni?+

Yes, a number can be migrated from another provider when both WhatsApp Business Accounts sit in the same Meta Business Manager. Freshworks describes it as zero-downtime; it keeps the display name, quality rating, green tick, approved templates and messaging limits, but past WhatsApp conversations and contacts do not move with the number. Two-step verification must be off on the old account first.

Is Omni suitable for healthcare or card data?+

A HIPAA BAA is available on Enterprise and covers Freshdesk, Freshchat, Freshcaller and Omnichannel, but Freshworks' terms bar using messaging integrations such as WhatsApp for patient data. The PCI vault field is a standalone Freshdesk Enterprise feature; the omnichannel product is not PCI compliant.

Do my API integrations survive the Omni 2025 upgrade?+

Freshworks says existing integrations keep working and API endpoints stay unchanged after the upgrade. Instagram tickets cannot be created through the public API, though their properties and notes can be updated.

The bottom line

Freshdesk Omni is the right buy when chat, WhatsApp, Instagram or SMS carry a real share of your support and most agents work those channels: it costs less than separate Freshdesk and Freshchat seats for everyone and keeps every conversation in one inbox. Below about half the team on chat on Growth and Pro, or about 38% on Enterprise, separate seats are cheaper on list price, at the cost of two setups and a manual move later. Add voice only on the plan whose call features you need, and budget WhatsApp and AI sessions as meters of their own.
