HeyGen can carry a course or a training program from slide deck to LMS, but the features that turn it into an e-learning tool sit on one plan. SCORM export, quizzes, branching and LMS integration all belong to Business and Enterprise. HeyGen's pricing page lists Business at $149 a month billed monthly, or $119 a month billed yearly ($1,428 a year), for the first seat, with 1,500 credits a month shared by the workspace and extra seats at $20 per seat a month that add no credits.[1] Credits, not the plan price, decide how many lesson minutes you get, so read our HeyGen pricing guide before sizing a course. Solo creators who sell plain MP4 lessons can stay on Creator or Pro. HeyGen publishes no education discount.

From slide deck to avatar lesson

Most courses start life as a deck, and HeyGen's PPT/PDF to Video tool accepts PPT, PPTX and PDF files up to 50 MB. Speaker notes become the script only from PPT or PPTX, and only those formats arrive as editable slides; a PDF comes in as flat pages. Uploading a PowerPoint detects its brand colors and fonts and offers to save them as a Brand System. The avatar sits as a circular overlay in the bottom right corner, and full slide editing works only when an editable template was used.

Software training needs screen footage. HeyGen's plans article lists a built-in Screen Recorder with Business.[2] It captures the whole screen, a window or a tab, and the recording can be trimmed or split into scenes. For a first draft from documents, Video Agent takes a prompt plus decks or PDFs and returns script, scenes, voice-over and captions. In Chat mode you approve a Video Plan before anything renders, while Autopilot starts generating on its own; planning is free. Rendering costs about 80 credits a minute in Standard mode, and HeyGen shows an estimate before it generates.

The presenter is a stock avatar or a Digital Twin of the instructor. A twin needs about 15 seconds of footage facing the camera plus a consent clip, and it is ready in roughly 10 to 20 minutes. Know the editor's shape first. AI Studio is script-based, not timeline-based, and lip sync renders only on submission: the preview plays audio, not the moving avatar. HeyGen suggests training modules of 2 to 5 minutes, and Business caps a single video at 60 minutes.

Keep instructor decks in PPTX

Speaker notes become the script and slides stay editable only from PPT or PPTX files; a PDF arrives as flat pages.

Getting lessons into the LMS

SCORM export lives in the Download menu. You pick SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 (4th Edition), set a slider for how much of the video a learner must watch, such as 80 percent, and receive a ZIP file.[3] The useful option is Host video on HeyGen. With it, regenerating the draft updates the lesson inside the LMS without a new package. That matters when a policy changes. HeyGen's compliance-training page says the LMS receives who completed, when, time spent, assessment scores and version, and that each translated version keeps its own SCORM tracking.

Below Business, you still get MP4 files, and HeyGen's course-creation page says they upload to Teachable, Thinkific, Kajabi, Udemy or any LMS without a plugin. What you lose is the completion threshold and the auto-update link. Those come only with the SCORM package. Translated collections also get a multilingual player that embeds on any page or LMS, and learners switch language inside one video.

Two rivals draw the SCORM line differently. Colossyan's pricing page lists Professional at $59 a month on an annual plan, plus $30 a month per additional member, with five SCORM exports a month; its Enterprise plan is unlimited. Synthesia keeps SCORM export on its Enterprise plan only. A small team that needs many packages a month without a sales call has fewer self-serve options than it may expect.

Quizzes, branching and where role-play lives

Interactivity is a Business and Enterprise feature.[4] Action buttons either open a URL or jump to another scene. Quizzes take single or multiple correct answers and give learners immediate feedback. Branching sends each learner down a different set of scenes. HeyGen's L&D page says these elements export with the SCORM package. Two mechanics trip people up. Wait for Click is on by default and must stay on whenever branching is used, and interactive elements work only in Preview, never on the editing canvas.

Conversation practice is a different product. Interview role-plays or a tutor that answers questions run on LiveAvatar, a separate platform at its own address that you sign in to with the same HeyGen account, with its own plans, credits and avatar slots; no HeyGen plan includes it, and HeyGen avatars do not carry over. LiveAvatar lists Essential at $99 a month and LiveAvatar Business at $475 a month, after a free tier with two-minute sessions. Putting it on a website requires coding. HeyGen's customer story says Advantive uses LiveAvatar for interview role-play without a live coach.

Host SCORM video on HeyGen

With this export option, regenerating a lesson updates it inside the LMS without uploading a new SCORM package.

One course, many languages

Translation bills per minute of source video per target language: 4 credits for Audio only, 6 for Speed and 10 for Precision. A 6-minute lesson into five languages on Speed costs 180 credits, by our arithmetic. One job takes up to 10 target languages, and paid plans cover 175+ languages and dialects. A brand glossary keeps course terms consistent. Proofread, also called Review & Edit, is on Pro, Business and Enterprise, and it must happen before the final render. HeyGen's customer story says Coursera reports 40% more watch time and 25% higher course completion after localizing instructor videos.

Plan around three gaps. Only spoken audio is translated, so text on slides stays in the source language. Lip sync can slip when the speaker's head turns more than 30 degrees from the camera. And avatar videos get no closed captions: AI Studio burns stylized captions into the picture and exports SRT files, while a CC toggle exists only on the share page of translated videos. Schools with accessibility rules should load the SRT into their LMS player.

⚠️
Watch out
No closed captions on avatar videos

HeyGen burns stylized captions into the picture and exports SRT files; load the SRT into your LMS player if accessibility rules require captions.

What a course costs in credits

Engine choice moves the bill more than plan choice. Per minute of output, Avatar III costs 4 credits with a video look, Avatar IV costs 31 with a video look (16 with a photo look) and Avatar V costs 48. Take a course with 60 minutes of finished lessons. By our arithmetic, those 60 minutes cost 2,880 credits on Avatar V, 1,860 on Avatar IV with a video look and 240 on Avatar III with a video look. In AI Studio, Avatar IV charges only for the seconds the avatar is generated. Layout and caption edits are free; re-rendering an avatar scene is not.

HeyGen's pricing page lists credit packs for Business only, at $5 per 100 credits or through auto-reload. Pack credits follow the same per-minute rates, and our HeyGen for business guide covers how seats share them. Add three Speed translations of that course to an Avatar V build and the month needs 3,960 credits. Against the 1,500 included, that leaves 2,460, or 25 packs of 100 at $5 each, $125 in all. A five-person team billed monthly pays $229 a month and still shares the same 1,500 credits.

Solo creators skip SCORM and size by credits. Creator's 600 credits cannot be topped up, so a heavier month means upgrading; the 60-minute course on Avatar IV with a video look fits the 2,000-credit Pro tier. Free is ruled out for paid courses. Its output is for personal, non-commercial use only. Monthly credits roll over one extra cycle and annual credits accumulate until renewal. Pausing between terms or dropping to Free wipes the whole balance; our cancellation guide covers the timing.

Every Digital Twin needs an on-camera consent clip recorded by the person depicted, reading HeyGen's text and a four-letter code. Screen recordings and AI-generated clips fail. The depicted person can request removal at any time, though removing an avatar does not delete videos already rendered. Professional Voice Clone uploads have no consent step, and Photo Avatars get no consent check either. Classrooms with minors hit hard limits: HeyGen's Terms require users to be 18 or older, and footage with minors is rejected.

The Terms give HeyGen a licence to use your content, including to train its models. Non-Enterprise users can opt out, and Enterprise data is excluded. All customer data is stored in the US, and HeyGen lists no ISO 27001. Our safety review walks through each layer. SAML single sign-on arrives with Business, while SCIM provisioning and audit logs are Enterprise features. Mature educational themes are allowed only with custom avatars, labeled at the start.

Frequently asked questions

Does HeyGen offer a discount for schools or nonprofits?+

HeyGen publishes no student, education or nonprofit discount. Nonprofit inquiries go to partnership@heygen.com.

Can I try SCORM export before paying for Business?+

There is no self-serve free trial of a paid HeyGen plan. The Free plan has no SCORM export, so testing it means subscribing to Business or talking to sales about Enterprise.

How long does a lesson take to render?+

HeyGen's help center says avatar videos take about 10 minutes per minute of video, and the regular queue averages just under 24 hours on weekdays. Business processes six videos at once.

Can students record or appear as avatars?+

No. HeyGen's Terms require users to be 18 or older, and its moderation policy rejects footage with minors and avatars that appear to depict anyone under 18.

The bottom line

HeyGen fits training teams that need SCORM tracking, quizzes and fast translation, as long as they budget for Business and pick the avatar engine with credits in mind. Course creators selling MP4 lessons can stay on Creator or Pro. Students under 18 cannot hold accounts. Live role-play means a second product with its own bill. Check captions, consent and data terms against your institution's rules before the first module ships.
