Yes. VEED has a Free plan that costs $0, needs no credit card and can be used indefinitely.[1] The catch is the output. Every export carries a VEED watermark baked into the file, video tops out at 720p, and a single export can run no longer than 10 minutes. You also get 10 minutes of auto subtitles a month and, in some regions only, 50 AI credits a month. There is no free trial of the paid plans, so the Free plan is the trial. Removing the watermark starts at Creator: $12.25 per editor seat a month billed annually, or $25 per seat billed monthly.
Our verdict is simple. Free is a real editor, not a demo. It works for learning the tool, cutting internal drafts and captioning short clips that never reach a customer. It stops working the moment a video carries your brand outside the company, because the watermark cannot be edited, moved or removed later. Most AI tools appear on Free as one try per account. And VEED's privacy policy says Free-plan uploads, except those from the mobile apps, are used to train its AI models, which matters more to a business than the resolution cap.
What you actually get for $0
The Free plan is not a stripped-down viewer. The full browser editor is there: the multi-track timeline, text and transitions, the screen and camera recorder with its teleprompter, green screen, Dynamic Subtitles, version control, and the compressor and converter for files up to 1 GB. Edit with Script, VEED's text-based editing, works on every plan, and Magic Cut runs in full on Free for English speech. The number of exports is unlimited. VEED says the Free plan can be used commercially. The limits sit on quality, length, storage and minutes, as the table shows against Creator, the cheapest paid plan.
| Limit | Free | Creator |
|---|---|---|
| Watermark | Yes, hardcoded | None |
| Export resolution | 720p | Up to 1080p |
| Auto subtitles | 10 minutes a month | Unlimited (50 h a month fair use) |
| AI credits | 50 a month, some regions only | 500 a month on monthly billing |
| Upload size | 1 GB per file | No per-file cap |
| Storage | About 2 GB | About 5 GB |
| Brand Kit | None | One (fonts and colors) |
| Support | Email only | Live chat |
The 10-minute ceiling applies to the exported video, so a 25-minute webinar recording cannot leave Free in one piece. The recorder itself allows 60 minutes per recording on every plan, which means you can capture more than you can export. Text to speech on Free is capped at 10 minutes a month with files of up to 12 seconds, and only where Free credits are offered. Embeds start at Pro. Brand Kits are absent, zoom is limited to default presets, and copyright-claim help for the stock library is reserved for paid users.
Clean Audio, Eye Contact, Clips, dubbing and similar tools are a single use per account on Free, not a monthly allowance.
The watermark, and why upgrading later does not clean old files
Every export made on Free, or while logged out, gets a VEED.IO watermark that you cannot edit or move. It is hardcoded into the file at export.[2] That has a practical consequence. If you upgrade, the videos you already exported stay watermarked, and you have to open the original project and export it again. Re-uploading a watermarked MP4 into a paid workspace keeps the mark, because it is now part of the picture. Keep your projects, not only the files, until you know whether you will pay.
Two exceptions are worth knowing. Audio downloads follow the same limits as video exports but carry no watermark, so cleaning up a voice track on Free and downloading the audio leaves no mark. AI Music Generator exports, by contrast, are watermarked on Free. One trap runs the other way. If a paid renewal fails, VEED retries the card daily for 5 days, then puts the subscription on hold and drops the workspace to Free. From then on, new exports pick up the watermark again until payment goes through.
The Free watermark is hardcoded. After upgrading, re-export from the original project; re-uploading a watermarked file keeps the mark.
AI on the Free plan: mostly one try each
Most of VEED's AI editing tools appear on Free as a single use per account, not per month. That covers Eye Contact correction, Remove Silences, Clean Audio, the background remover, Clips, AI Rephrase, dubbing and subtitle translation. One go is enough to judge the output on your own footage, which is the honest purpose of the allowance. It is not enough to run a weekly workflow. On Creator and above, editing tools such as Clean Audio, Eye Contact and Clips become unlimited, while generation and translation draw on credits. Translation in volume starts at Pro.
Generation runs on AI credits, and Free credits are regional: some accounts see 50 a month, others see none. Fifty credits buy little. At 8 credits a second for Fabric 1.0 at 720p, they cover about 6 seconds of talking video. A single Veo 3.1 generation costs 310 credits, more than six times a Free month's allowance by our arithmetic. Credits never roll over, so saving up is impossible. Two grants soften this: all users get 3 free Fabric generations of up to 10 seconds (not in India, Pakistan or Bangladesh), and new workspaces in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and most of the EU get 3 free character videos in VEED AI. Our guide to VEED's AI tools lists what spends credits.
VEED's privacy policy says Free-plan uploads (not mobile-app uploads) are used to improve its products, including training AI models; upgrading or deleting the account ends it.
The costs of free that are not in dollars
The biggest one is data. VEED's privacy policy says content uploaded on a Free subscription is used to develop and improve its products, including training AI models.[3] Uploads made through the mobile apps are excluded. The way out is to upgrade or delete the account. For a business, that clause should weigh more than the watermark. Client footage, unreleased product shots and internal training videos do not belong in a Free workspace. Our VEED safety review covers the rest of the data terms, including the broad licence every plan grants VEED over uploaded content.
Support and recovery are the other costs. Free accounts get email support only, with replies in about 3 business days, while paid plans get live chat during business hours on weekdays. Free storage is about 2 GB in total, and each uploaded file is capped at 1 GB. Deleted projects sit in the trash for 30 days and are then gone for good; support cannot recover them. None of this blocks casual use. All of it matters once a deadline depends on the account, which is usually the point when a team starts asking whether to pay.
When to upgrade, and what it really costs
There is no free trial of Creator, Pro or Studio. VEED offers a trial only to Enterprise buyers with at least 3 users,[4] so the Free plan is the test drive. Creator costs $25 per editor seat a month billed monthly, or $12.25 per seat a month billed annually, which is $147 a year. Pro adds 4K export and multiple Brand Kits for $45 per seat a month billed monthly, or $22.08 per seat a month billed annually ($265 a year). Studio is $79 per seat a month billed monthly, or $38.75 per seat a month billed annually ($465 a year).
The seat rule is where Free users get surprised. A Free workspace allows up to 3 editors, and every one of them, including pending invites, becomes a billed seat the moment the workspace upgrades. Three editors on Creator come to $75 a month billed monthly, or $441 a year billed annually, by our arithmetic. Remove collaborators you do not need before paying. Removing one later refunds nothing: the unused time only becomes credit on future invoices. Viewers invited to a single project stay free.
Every workspace member and pending invite becomes a billed seat when you upgrade, and removing one later refunds nothing.
Monthly or annual? A Creator seat costs $25 a month on monthly billing against $147 a year paid upfront. If you will need paid features for 6 months or more, annual billing is cheaper; for 5 months or fewer, monthly wins, since 5 monthly payments total less than one annual charge. Upgrading resets the billing period, and refunds are narrow: none once you have used the service, and a full refund within 14 days only for consumers who never used it, so check our VEED pricing guide before committing. Prices here are VEED's default USD figures; local currency prices can differ, and India is annual-only.
How VEED's free plan compares with other free editors
Most free tiers in this category watermark their exports, so compare the other limits. Descript's Free plan also exports at 720p with a watermark, with 1 media hour a month and 100 one-time AI credits. Kapwing's Free plan gives watermarked 720p exports of up to 4 minutes per video on its pricing page (its help pages give a shorter limit, and the same page lists a 30-minute monthly cap next to "unlimited exports"), 10 credits, and keeps projects for only 3 days. Riverside's Free plan is 720p with a watermark as well, built around recording. Against those, VEED's 10-minute exports, with no cap on how many you make, are generous.
Two free plans go past 720p. Clipchamp's free plan exports at up to 1080p with no watermark and unlimited exports, so if a clean file is the whole requirement, it clears a bar VEED's Free plan does not. OpusClip's Free plan renders clips up to 1080p but still adds a watermark, allows no editing, and stops letting you export clips after 3 days. The trade is clear. Among the free plans compared here, VEED offers a wide editor and a long list of AI tools to try once, but a clean file costs money.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use VEED without signing up?+
You can export while logged out, but those exports carry the VEED.IO watermark like Free exports. Signing up needs no password: VEED uses Google, Apple, Microsoft or a one-time email code.
Is the VEED Lite app part of the Free plan?+
No. VEED Lite is a separate iOS captions app with its own subscription billed through Apple, and a Lite subscription does not carry over to the web. VEED's help pages disagree on whether a paid web plan unlocks it, so check inside the app.
Is there a student or nonprofit discount instead?+
We found no student or nonprofit discount; education deals are bespoke faculty-wide plans through sales. New customers referred by an existing user get 50% off the first 3 months (not in India, not combinable with other discounts).
What happens to my credits if I cancel back to Free?+
Remaining credits keep working until the paid period ends, then expire; they never roll over and are not refundable. After that you are on Free credits, which only some regions get.
The bottom line
VEED is free in a real sense: $0, no card, no time limit and a full editor. Use the Free plan to learn the tool, cut internal drafts and test each AI feature once on your own footage. Pay when a video goes to customers, needs more than 720p or 10 minutes, or contains material you would not want used to train AI models. At that point Creator, at $12.25 per editor seat a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, is the entry, and every editor in the workspace counts as a seat.
