LiveChat, now sold to new customers as Text plans, costs $19 per user per month billed annually or $25 per user per month billed monthly on Essential, the cheapest plan [1]. Growth costs $79 per user per month billed annually or $99 billed monthly, and Enterprise is a custom quote billed annually only [2]. There is no free plan. Each account also gets 10 AI resolutions a month on Essential and 200 on Growth. Our verdict: Essential fits a small team with light AI use. Growth pays off once you need routing and supervision.
The three Text plans and what each one includes
Text bills one seat for each person who logs in to answer chats or tickets, with no minimum team size and no fixed user cap on Essential or Growth, while teams that want custom limits, SSO or invoicing go to Enterprise, the only plan with purchase orders and annual invoices. Every plan includes the website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, ticketing and Copilot. So the gap between plans is limits and team controls, not basic channels.
Prices shown are what LiveChat lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT.
| Text plan feature | Essential | Growth | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per user per month | $19 billed annually, $25 billed monthly | $79 billed annually, $99 billed monthly | Custom quote, billed annually only |
| AI resolutions per account a month | 10 | 200 | Custom |
| AI Agents | 1 | 10 | Custom |
| API calls a month | 10,000 | 20,000 | Custom |
| Conversation and file history | 60 days | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Reply suggestions per user a month | 5 | 50 | Custom |
| Routing rules, working hours, supervision, summaries | No | Yes | Yes |
| Custom SSO, audit logs, SLAs, white label | No | No | Yes |
Essential keeps conversation and file history for 60 days, and Text does not publish what happens after that. Essential also stops at five default tags, one AI Agent, 3 proactive campaigns and 50 visitors tracked at once. Growth lifts those to 10 AI Agents, 30 campaigns and 400 visitors, and adds custom tags, summaries and agent performance reports. Enterprise adds custom SSO, audit logs and SLAs, plus white label only when the signed Order Form includes it.
Text's AI resolution allowance is per account a month (10 on Essential, 200 on Growth), so adding users does not add resolutions.
Included and purchased AI resolutions on Text plans do not carry over to the next month.
The AI and API meters on top of seats
Seats are only part of the bill. AI resolutions are counted per account a month, not per user, so adding seats does not raise the allowance. Above it, Essential and Growth accounts buy extra resolutions at $49.50 per pack of 50, which works out to $0.99 per resolution. You add packs from billing settings. Once added, they recur every billing cycle until you reduce them, and a reduction takes effect at the next renewal.
Unused resolutions, included or bought, do not carry over to the next cycle, and Text emails the account once it has used 90% of its included allowance, which leaves time to decide whether a pack is worth adding. By our arithmetic, a one-user Essential account that needs 100 AI resolutions a month pays $19 for the seat plus two packs for $99, or $118 a month at the annual rate. A ten-user Growth team that needs 350 resolutions pays $790 for seats plus three packs at $148.50, or $938.50 a month billed annually.
Developers meet a third meter. Essential includes 10,000 API calls a month and Growth 20,000, reset each billing cycle. Every request counts, personal access tokens included, except those that return an HTTP 500 error. An extra pack of 100,000 calls costs $29.50 on either plan. What counts as an AI resolution, and what does not, is covered in our LiveChat AI playbook.
On Text plans, removing a user mid-cycle gives no credit, and downgrades or pack reductions wait for the next renewal.
Essential or Growth: what the extra $60 per user buys
Moving from Essential to Growth adds $60 per user per month billed annually, or $74 billed monthly. At annual rates that is $300 a month for five users. The money buys team controls: routing rules by page URL, domain, country or channel, working hours, supervision and takeover, shared canned responses and multilingual agent groups. It also buys unlimited history and 50 reply suggestions per user a month instead of five.
If AI volume is your only reason to upgrade, check the math. An account that needs about 200 AI resolutions can stay on Essential and add four packs, reaching 210 for $198 a month. On annual billing Growth costs $60 more per user, so it is cheaper for one to three users and dearer from four up. On monthly billing it wins only for one or two users. Past that point, Essential plus packs saves money but gives up routing and supervision.
Small teams with one inbox rarely outgrow Essential. Three users cost $57 a month billed annually or $75 billed monthly; five users cost $95 or $125. Growth earns its price when a manager must take over live chats or records must outlive 60 days. Five Growth users cost $395 a month billed annually, which is $4,740 a year. Our small-business guide covers the smaller setups.
Annual billing is paid upfront for 12 months; if you may leave within nine months, monthly billing costs less in total.
Annual billing, renewals and the rules on changes
Annual billing means 12 months paid upfront. Per user, Essential costs $228 a year billed annually against $300 billed monthly, and Growth $948 against $1,188. Text says annual saves about 24% and about 20%; paying monthly costs about 32% and 25% more. The rule is simple. Annual wins only if you stay ten months or more: nine monthly payments come to $225 on Essential and $891 on Growth.
Renewal is automatic, and plan changes are made from the subscription settings inside the app rather than through a sales contact. Downgrades take effect at the next renewal date, whether you lower the plan, the user count or the resolution packs [3]. Removing a user mid-cycle gives no credit: the person loses access at once, and the lower seat count applies next period. Cancellation is not self-serve. You contact support by chat or by email.
The livechat.com pricing page publishes no refund policy, while Text's HelpDesk.com pricing page, which lists the same plans, says refunds are reviewed case by case on request, so ask before paying for a year. Prices are in USD before tax; US sales tax is added by ZIP code where collected, and non-US businesses may be charged VAT. Payment-related changes are announced at least 30 days ahead. Installing from the Shopify App Store bills through Shopify every 30 days. The 14-day trial of Essential or Growth needs no card and never charges automatically.
The legacy Starter plan and other existing-customer prices
Searches for a LiveChat starter plan land on an older lineup. New sign-ups on livechat.com start on Text plans, while Starter, Team and Business are legacy LiveChat plans that existing LiveChat customers keep with the same login, plan and price. Text features such as the AI Agent and ticketing are not included in them. Text is a separate workspace, and a LiveChat help page that gates a feature to Team or Business describes the LiveChat app.
Existing LiveChat customers on the legacy Starter plan pay $19 per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, for one user only [4]. Existing LiveChat customers on Team pay $49 per user per month billed annually or $59 billed monthly, and on Business $79 or $89 per user per month. Existing LiveChat customers can add ChatBot.com from $19 a month billed annually and KnowledgeBase at $49 a month billed annually.
How Text's per-user price compares with rival help desks
Units differ, so compare at one team size. Zendesk's live chat starts on Suite Team at $55 per agent per month billed annually; Support Team has none. Five users on Text Essential cost $95 a month against $275 on Zendesk Suite Team, both billed annually. Help Scout Standard costs $25 per user per month billed annually and includes live chat. Five users on Help Scout Standard cost $125 a month against $95 on Text Essential.
Freshdesk puts live chat in Freshdesk Omni, where Omni Growth costs $29 per agent per month billed annually. Zoho Desk Standard costs $14 per agent per month billed annually, with live chat through its Business Messaging channel. Gorgias prices each account by ticket volume: Gorgias Basic is $50 a month billed annually for 300 tickets. These totals are not a verdict. Our alternatives guide compares the features.
Frequently asked questions
Do WhatsApp numbers cost extra on Text plans?+
No. WhatsApp is native on every paid Text plan and trial, and each number is free from Text; Meta's own requirements, including a Meta Business Portfolio, still apply.
Does SMS cost extra on Text?+
SMS runs through your own Twilio account, so Twilio bills the messages and its own limits apply.
Are there discounts for nonprofits or schools?+
Text's pricing FAQ says non-profits and educational institutions can ask about additional discounts. It publishes no figure.
Do store and website integrations cost extra?+
Connecting Shopify, WordPress, Webflow and other platforms carries no separate fee on any Text plan. Third-party Marketplace apps may charge their own developer fees.
The bottom line
Text pricing is simple at the seat level and needs care at the meters. Essential at $19 per user per month billed annually fits small teams with light AI use and no need to keep chats past 60 days. Growth at $79 per user per month billed annually suits teams that route, supervise and report. Budget AI resolutions per account. Pay annually only if you will stay ten months, and expect downgrades to wait for renewal.
