LiveChat, now sold to new customers as Text plans, puts its chat widget on a site in one of six ways: a code snippet pasted before the closing body tag, the WordPress plugin, the Shopify app, the Webflow app, Google Tag Manager, or packages for React, Vue and Angular. None of the first five needs a developer. Wix and Squarespace need a careful read. The step-by-step guides for those two builders describe the LiveChat app that existing customers keep, not Text, so a new Text account on either builder uses the universal snippet. The widget's look and behavior are set inside Text, never in your site builder.

Six ways to install the widget in Text

Text's help center calls the HTML snippet the quickest install, one that works on any website and needs no JavaScript framework [1]. In Text, open Settings, then Website widgets, choose Embed code, and paste the snippet just before the closing body tag of your page template. One Text account can connect several websites, and each site gets its own unique snippet. Copy the right one per domain. You can also style the widget on a default preview before any site is connected, so colors and greeting can be settled while the code work waits.

Google Tag Manager is the second no-code route. It needs a Google account that can create and publish GTM tags, and the install can be repeated for as many websites as you run. Teams building single-page applications get SDK packages for React, Vue and Angular, the only path Text says assumes basic familiarity with a framework. If someone else owns the site code, the Share setup link lets a developer finish the install without access to your Text account. No password changes hands.

Install path Suits Coding needed
HTML snippet before the closing body tag Any website None
Google Tag Manager Sites already running GTM None
React, Vue or Angular packages Single-page apps Basic framework knowledge
WordPress plugin (AI Chatbot by Text) WordPress 6.0+ with PHP 7.4+ None
Shopify App Store app Shopify storefronts None
Webflow app Webflow sites None

Send the setup link, not logins

Text's Share setup link lets a developer finish the widget install without access to your Text account.

WordPress, Shopify and Webflow: the no-code routes

The WordPress plugin is called AI Chatbot by Text and needs WordPress 6.0 or higher and PHP 7.4 or higher [2]. Install it from the WordPress admin, from inside Text, or manually as a .zip file, then connect a Text account, which you can create during setup. The plugin is free to install, but the account behind it runs on a trial or a paid plan. With WooCommerce active, agents see cart contents and product details. Without WooCommerce, the widget works with no store data. A snippet in the theme header or footer remains the fallback. On Connect, the plugin sends Text your admin email, site URLs and software versions.

Text is listed in the Shopify App Store, and Text describes the install as three steps with no code or theme editing. You approve the connection in the Shopify admin, enable the widget in the Theme Editor and save. The widget runs on the storefront and the Thank You page on every Shopify plan. Checkout is different. Only Shopify Plus brands can place the widget on the checkout page, because Shopify allows checkout customization only there. Store selling features are covered in our ecommerce guide.

For Webflow, open Settings, then Website widgets in Text, pick Add to Webflow and authorize the connection; Text is also on the Webflow App Marketplace, marked as approved by Webflow. No widget code is pasted by hand. Publish the Webflow site first, since the widget only appears on a published site, and the status flips to Connected once the widget registers activity there. Text sets no limit on connected Webflow sites, and each one gets its own widget entry. Colors, position and greeting are set in Text, not in the Webflow Designer.

Wix and Squarespace: guides written for the LiveChat app

This is where buyers get crossed wires. The Wix and Squarespace instructions on livechat.com describe the LiveChat app, the older product existing customers keep. On Wix, that app installs from the Wix App Market with Add to Site and then links a LiveChat account. The widget appears on the desktop and mobile versions, and the step repeats for each site you own. The Wix listing says page-based greetings depend on the LiveChat plan. That is a legacy gate. None of it describes how a Text account behaves on Wix.

Squarespace has two LiveChat-app routes. One runs through Settings, Third Party Tools, Extensions and creates a LiveChat account with an emailed verification code, after which agents see browsed products, orders and cart contents. The other pastes the code into Settings, Advanced, Code Injection, Footer. For a new Text account, the documented path on either builder is the universal snippet, which Text says works on any website. Confirm that your builder lets you add custom code to every page before you start the 14-day trial, so the trial days go to testing rather than troubleshooting.

Matching the widget to your brand

All styling happens in Text's live on-site configurator. You choose a light or dark theme, the primary color, launcher, position, welcome message, default customer name, input placeholder, and the offline and queue messages. Multiple websites, a custom logo, right-to-left layout and dark mode are on every Text plan, per the pricing matrix [3]. The interface comes in 48 languages, but that setting changes only the widget's buttons and labels. It does not translate messages. The AI Agent can carry its own name, avatar and tone of voice inside the same widget.

One structural detail shapes multi-site setups. Widget settings apply per team and are shared by every website that uses that team. Essential includes one team and Growth includes ten, so on Essential every connected site shares one widget design. A business running two brands with different colors needs Growth, or accepts a single look. Growth also adds chat routing rules, which send chats to a team by page URL, domain or country and can switch the widget off on selected pages. Agent groups per language are a Growth feature as well.

Design on the preview first

Text lets you customize the widget on a default preview before any website is connected, so styling need not wait for the code.

What visitors see once it is live

Several behaviors arrive with no setup. The welcome message offers one to three suggested questions built from the AI Agent's knowledge sources for the page the visitor is on, and since July 2026 the minimized widget shows them too; tapping one starts the chat. On desktop the widget opens larger, with an expand control. AI Agent replies arrive formatted with lists, links and bold text, and when the AI Agent sends product cards the widget widens to show a photo, price and add-to-cart button.

Pre-chat, post-chat, no-response and offline forms share one Forms page and are set per team. New accounts start with the pre-chat form off and the post-chat form on, so decide early whether you need a name and email before a chat begins. When nobody is online and the AI Agent is off, chats can stay open as unassigned or close with a form whose submissions arrive as tickets. With the AI Agent on, it can create a ticket if no teammate picks up within 30 seconds. Nothing gets lost overnight.

Proactive campaigns open the chat for chosen visitors. Essential allows 3 campaigns and 1,000 impressions a month; Growth allows 30 campaigns and 10,000 impressions, and any campaign can target desktop, mobile or all devices. Live visitor tracking covers 50 simultaneous visitors on Essential and 400 on Growth. Where the widget cannot go, the chat page is a hosted link you can share in emails, social bios, receipts or a QR code. Conversations from the widget, the chat page and other channels land in one inbox, as our messaging channels guide explains.

Restrict, disclose and check before launch

Trusted domains, under Settings, then Security, limit which sites can load the widget; an entry covers a full domain with its subdomains or one exact address. Set them before launch, and a copied snippet will not load on anyone else's site. The detected-domains list is built from aggregated traffic, so a freshly installed widget takes 10 to 30 minutes to show up there. An empty list right after install is normal.

The Privacy note tells visitors that personal data may be collected in a chat. It is off by default and has no pre-filled text, and Text says it does not guarantee that your site is CCPA or CPRA compliant. Write the note yourself. Classifying Text's cookies and running a consent banner also stay with you, and the widget should never collect card numbers, passwords or one-time codes through unsupported fields. Text says its chat widget meets WCAG 2.2 AA, based on a VPAT conformance report that covers the chat widget only [4]. Your own pages need their own check.

The widget itself is on every Text plan. Essential costs $19 per user per month billed annually or $25 per user per month billed monthly, after a 14-day trial with no credit card and no automatic charge. Every user who answers chats needs a seat, and the per-user billing rules, AI resolution allowances and what existing customers keep are in our pricing guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Text trial change the LiveChat widget already on my site?+

Text is a separate workspace and account, so creating one does not move your LiveChat plan or conversation history. Existing LiveChat customers keep their plan, price and login.

Which languages can the AI Agent answer in through the widget?+

Text lists 48 languages for the AI Agent, and an admin can limit it to all languages, one language or several selected ones.

Can I see how the AI Agent behaves in the widget before switching it on?+

Yes. Text's Preview widget shows the AI Agent's answers and product cards, while ticket creation and transfers stay inactive in preview.

Can several AI Agents share one widget?+

Yes, on plans with more than one AI Agent: several Text AI Agents can work in the same website widget, and routing rules decide which one handles each chat. Multiple AI Agents start on Growth.

The bottom line

Installing the widget is the easy part of adopting Text: a snippet, a plugin or an app gets it live without a developer on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or any site that accepts custom code, and the Share setup link covers sites where someone else holds the keys. The decisions that matter come after. Set trusted domains and write the privacy note before launch, check whether checkout chat needs Shopify Plus for you, and pick Growth if separate brands need separate widget designs. Treat Wix and Squarespace guides on livechat.com as LiveChat-app instructions, and use the snippet there.
