The short answer

SocialBee and Hootsuite both schedule posts, answer comments and report on results, but they are built for different buyers. SocialBee is a flat-priced planner for solopreneurs, small businesses and agencies, organized around content categories that refill a weekly schedule. Hootsuite is a suite for marketing and customer-care teams, with listening, an automated inbox, a public API and a long security list. The gap in price is large. SocialBee charges one price per plan, the smallest being $29 a month billed monthly. Hootsuite charges per user and publishes only annual rates. The gap in depth is just as real, and it runs the other way.

So the choice is rarely close. If you need to keep several profiles fed with fresh and evergreen posts on a small budget, SocialBee covers the job for a fraction of the cost. If you need to hear what people say about your brand beyond your own pages, route messages to the right teammate, or plug social data into other systems, Hootsuite does things SocialBee does not attempt. Our Toolkit Score puts Hootsuite slightly ahead overall, mostly on capability. SocialBee wins on value. The rest of this comparison shows where each line falls.

Two price models that are hard to compare

SocialBee sells six plans, each priced for the whole account. Bootstrap costs $29 a month billed monthly or $290 a year billed annually, with 5 profiles and one user. Accelerate costs $49 a month or $490 a year, with 10 profiles, still one user, and post approvals. Pro costs $99 a month or $990 a year and adds 3 users per workspace, 5 workspaces, internal notes and PDF report export [1]. Three agency plans, Pro50, Pro100 and Pro150, keep Pro's features and scale profiles and workspaces. Extra users and workspaces cost $10 a month each on any SocialBee plan.

Hootsuite works differently. Standard costs $99 per user a month billed annually, Professional $199 and Advanced $399, and Enterprise is quote-only [2]. Monthly billing exists, but Hootsuite does not publish the month-to-month rate on its plans page. Each seat you add multiplies the bill. Standard caps you at 10 social accounts; Professional lifts that to unlimited accounts. Approval workflows only start on Advanced, together with message assignment and auto-routing. That last detail decides most team budgets, as the next section shows.

What you actually pay: one person, a team, an agency

The numbers below use annual billing on both sides, because that is the only rate Hootsuite publishes. Every total is by our arithmetic, from the plan prices above, before taxes. We picked three common buyers rather than one average case, because the per-user model hurts small teams far less than it hurts agencies and approval-heavy teams. Seats are the lever. Profiles matter less on Hootsuite once you reach Professional, and they matter more on SocialBee, where each plan caps the number of connected profiles.

One person running a few brands

A freelancer or owner with up to 10 profiles fits SocialBee Accelerate at $490 a year billed annually, or Bootstrap at $290 a year if five profiles are enough. The same person on Hootsuite Standard pays $1,188 a year for one seat. Against the $490 plan, that is $698 more a year, and the buyer gets listening on 7 days of quick search, an inbox that covers TikTok and WhatsApp, and competitor benchmarking for up to 5 accounts. Whether those extras are worth $698 depends on how much of your work is listening and replying rather than publishing.

A three-person team that needs approvals

This is where the plan choice matters most. SocialBee Accelerate has approvals but only one user, so a team of three either adds two users at $10 a month each, which comes to $69 a month billed monthly or $690 a year billed annually by our arithmetic, or moves to SocialBee Pro: 3 users, approvals and internal notes, for $99 a month or $990 a year. Three Standard seats cost $297 a month billed annually, or $3,564 a year, but Standard has no approval workflow. A team that must approve posts before they go out needs Advanced, the first tier with approvals. Three Advanced seats come to $1,197 a month billed annually, or $14,364 a year. SocialBee covers the same requirement for $690 to $990 a year. If your team does not need formal approvals, the Hootsuite Standard figure is the fair comparison.

💡
Toolkit tip
Match approvals to the plan

On SocialBee, approvals start on Accelerate; a team adds users at $10 a month each or takes Pro, which includes 3 users. On Hootsuite, approvals start on Advanced, not Standard or Professional.

A small agency with ten clients

Picture five people managing about 40 client profiles across ten clients. SocialBee Pro50 fits: 50 profiles, 10 workspaces, 5 users per workspace, approvals and PDF reports, for $179 a month or $1,790 a year. On Hootsuite, 40 accounts rule out Standard, so the floor is Professional. Five Professional seats cost $995 a month billed annually, or $11,940 a year. If the agency needs client approvals and message assignment, five Advanced seats cost $1,995 a month billed annually, or $23,940 a year. Both products bill more as you grow, but the steps on the SocialBee side are much smaller.

Trials, refunds and billing rules

Neither product has a free plan. Both offer a 14-day trial without a credit card. SocialBee's trial runs on Pro, and the account locks when it ends until you choose a paid plan. Hootsuite's trial is one per person, allows 10 to 20 posts a day per organization and leaves out bulk scheduling, so it shows less of the product at full stretch. Hootsuite's pricing page says you are not charged automatically when it ends, but its terms and its help center say a trial with a payment method on file converts and is charged, so if you added a card, cancel before day 14 unless you mean to continue.

Refund rules differ more than the trials. SocialBee offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first purchase only, monthly or yearly, and gives no prorated refunds after a renewal [3]. Hootsuite's annual plans are non-refundable, and Enterprise contracts renew automatically unless you give written notice 60 days before the term ends. In both cases, put the renewal date in your calendar. SocialBee lets you pause a plan for one to three months, during which nothing posts. Nonprofits get help on both sides. SocialBee takes 50% off any plan for registered NGOs and educational institutions that email proof. Hootsuite lists nonprofit rates of $39, $79 and $159 per user a month billed annually, for nonprofits verified through TechSoup or Goodstack.

⚠️
Watch out
Annual commitments are hard to undo

Hootsuite's annual plans are non-refundable. SocialBee's 30-day money-back guarantee covers only the first purchase, with no prorated refunds after a renewal.

Publishing: categories versus a classic planner

SocialBee's core idea is the content category. You sort posts into categories, attach each category to slots in a weekly posting schedule, and let evergreen posts re-share automatically while time-bound posts expire or share once. It is a good fit for small teams that need a steady stream of posts without planning every one. Copilot can read your website and draft a strategy with categories, a schedule and 10 AI posts with images saved as drafts. Accounts on networks without direct publishing get mobile reminders through Universal Posting, which covers Facebook Groups, Reddit, WhatsApp, Telegram and Mastodon.

Hootsuite's planner is a calendar and composer for Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky. Bulk scheduling takes up to 350 posts, against SocialBee's CSV import of up to 300 items from Accelerate up, which does not take carousels. Hootsuite adds a LinkedIn first comment, a link-in-bio page and ads management on every plan. It also suggests the best time to post and pulls media from Canva, Adobe Express and Google Drive. There is no evergreen category system. You plan each post, or each bulk upload, yourself.

One network needs care on SocialBee. Its help center describes direct X posting as a $10-a-month add-on, and its own pages disagree on whether that applies only to older lifetime plans. Confirm with SocialBee before you rely on X. Hootsuite publishes to X from its standard composer. SocialBee also has gaps on threads: it cannot post X threads or Threads chains, and one post cannot go out at different times on different profiles. Small things, until you need them.

The inbox: where Hootsuite pulls ahead

SocialBee's Engage inbox collects comments, mentions and messages for Facebook Pages and Instagram Business, comments and mentions for Threads, LinkedIn pages and X, and comments for YouTube. TikTok, Pinterest, Bluesky and Google Business Profile do not appear in it. There are no auto-replies and no conversation assignment. For one person answering comments on a handful of brands, that is often enough. For a team sharing customer conversations, it is thin.

Hootsuite's inbox covers Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, WhatsApp and Google Business Profile, with streams, boards and saved replies. Hootsuite's plans page credits Professional with automated inbox replies and workflows, though its help center puts auto-responders and automation rules on Advanced. Advanced adds message assignment and auto-routing, so a question lands with the right person instead of the whole team. Enterprise's Advanced Inbox adds service levels, smart replies, sentiment and help-desk connections. There are limits: conversations are kept for 6 weeks, and TikTok business messaging is unavailable in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK. Still, for customer care this is a different class of tool.

Listening, analytics and reports

SocialBee says plainly that it is mainly a management tool. It has no social listening and no sentiment analysis, and its competitor analysis covers Facebook Pages only. Analytics span nine networks, with 3 months of history on Bootstrap and 2 years from Accelerate. PDF report export starts on Pro, which matters if clients expect a monthly report. That is a reasonable set for showing what your own posts did. It will not tell you what people say about you elsewhere.

Hootsuite includes basic listening on every plan: 7 days of quick search on Standard and 30 days on higher plans. Competitor benchmarking covers 5 accounts on Standard and 20 from Professional, on X, Facebook Pages and Instagram Business only. PDF and PowerPoint exports come on all plans, CSV and Excel from Advanced, and Professional adds trend forecasting up to 90 days ahead. Enterprise's advanced listening, powered by Talkwalker, covers more than 150 million websites with 13 months of history. If brand monitoring is part of your job, only one of these two tools does it.

AI, API and integrations

Both products write posts with AI. SocialBee puts no monthly cap on AI captions on any plan, under a fair-use rule it says may change, and offers more than 1,000 prompt templates. Its AI runs on OpenAI's API, images use GPT-Image-1, and the WebPros privacy policy says AI inputs and outputs are not used to train models. Hootsuite's Wisdom drafts posts and images and answers questions about your social data, with no power to publish on its own; the holiday and trending-event captions it writes in the content calendar are English-only and draw on a monthly allowance of 300 tokens.

The bigger split is openness. SocialBee has no public API and no white label [4], and we found no MCP server or ChatGPT or Claude connector on its site or help center. It connects through Zapier, where the only action is creating a post, plus Make, Pabbly and Boost.space, Canva imports and more than ten link shorteners. Hootsuite offers a REST API for approved developers with webhooks, an app directory of more than 100 apps, MCP servers for its main modules and connectors for Claude and ChatGPT. It does not publish which plans include MCP access, and the listening server needs a Talkwalker licence. Its publishing API does not cover TikTok, YouTube or Bluesky.

💡
Toolkit tip
Check what must connect

If another system must read or write your social data, SocialBee connects only through Zapier, Make, Pabbly and Boost.space, built mainly around creating posts. Hootsuite has a REST API, webhooks and MCP servers on plans that include MCP access.

Teams, security and reliability

For collaboration, SocialBee uses workspaces with four roles: owner, manager, publisher and contributor. Contributors can create posts but cannot approve them. Approvals start on Accelerate and internal notes on Pro. Hootsuite's approvals allow up to three layers on Advanced with more than one user seat and on Enterprise, and Enterprise adds single sign-on. Advanced also brings team performance reporting, which helps a manager see who handled what. On SocialBee, an agency gives each client its own workspace, with separate profiles, schedule and approvals. That is simple. It also keeps clients apart.

Security paperwork is lopsided. Hootsuite lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 among its certifications and is FedRAMP authorized (Tailored Li-SaaS), with a 99.9% uptime commitment for Enterprise. SocialBee offers two-factor authentication and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework through its parent, WebPros, but no SOC 2 or ISO certificate is named on its site or help center. For a regulated buyer, that ends the comparison. SocialBee's changelog also records a few hard weeks: in July (the changelog posts give no year), an API outage on July 18-20 and about 12 hours of scheduled posts that did not publish on July 27-28 and were not re-sent, then a TikTok posting failure from August 12 to September 7, 2026.

What reviewers say

Business-software reviewers rate SocialBee well, while its mobile apps score poorly. The low-star themes on consumer review sites cluster around support, account access, refunds, reliability and renewals, which matches the refund and renewal rules above. Treat those sites as a map of complaints, not a trend. For Hootsuite, the fuller picture sits in our Hootsuite review, and the per-seat math in more detail in our Hootsuite pricing guide. Read the card above for the platform figures side by side.

Which one to pick

Pick SocialBee if publishing is the job. That means a solo marketer, a small business or an agency that needs to keep many profiles fed, wants evergreen posts to recycle, and counts every dollar. A team of three that needs approvals can add two users to Accelerate at $10 a month each, or take Pro, which also brings internal notes and PDF reports. An agency with ten clients belongs on Pro50 for its workspaces and five users per workspace. Read our SocialBee pricing guide before you commit to a yearly plan.

Pick Hootsuite if conversations and data are the job. That means a team that answers customers across many networks, needs messages assigned and routed, wants listening beyond its own pages, or must pass a security review. Budget for Advanced if approvals are a must, because Standard and Professional do not include them. Do not buy Hootsuite just to schedule posts. That is the one case where SocialBee does nearly the same work for a small share of the cost.

Frequently asked questions

Much cheaper for most teams. SocialBee prices each plan for the whole account, while Hootsuite charges for every user and publishes only annual rates.

Which plan do I need for post approvals?+

On SocialBee, approvals start on Accelerate, which includes one user; a team adds users at $10 a month each or moves to Pro, at $99 a month billed monthly, for 3 users, internal notes and PDF reports. On Hootsuite, approval workflows start on Advanced, at $399 per user a month billed annually.

Does SocialBee have social listening like Hootsuite?+

No. SocialBee has no listening or sentiment analysis, and its competitor analysis covers Facebook Pages only. Hootsuite includes basic listening on every plan and advanced listening on Enterprise.

Do SocialBee or Hootsuite have a free plan?+

Neither has one. Both offer a 14-day trial without a credit card, and SocialBee's trial runs on its Pro plan. Hootsuite's terms and help center say a trial with a payment method on file converts and is charged, so cancel before day 14 if you added a card.

Does SocialBee have an API like Hootsuite?+

No. SocialBee has no public API, and we found no MCP server on its site or help center; it works through Zapier, Make, Pabbly and Boost.space. Hootsuite offers a REST API for approved developers, webhooks and MCP servers, though it does not publish which plans include MCP access.

Can I get a refund from SocialBee or Hootsuite?+

SocialBee offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first purchase only, with no prorated refunds after renewal. Hootsuite's annual plans are non-refundable.

The bottom line

SocialBee and Hootsuite only look like rivals. SocialBee is a flat-priced scheduler with a smart category system, approvals from Accelerate and plans that grow in small steps, but no listening, no inbox routing and no public API. Hootsuite is a per-user suite with listening, an automated inbox, an open developer platform and serious security credentials, priced for teams that use all of that. If your work ends when the post goes live, SocialBee is the better buy by a wide margin. If your work starts when people reply, Hootsuite earns its price.
