Canva Pro and Canva Business are the two plans most buyers choose between, and Canva's own pricing page recommends Business. The right answer depends on two questions: how many people need their own login, and how much AI you use. Everything below comes from Canva's pricing page and help centre, read for the US market on 9 October 2026, with our arithmetic labelled.

The short answer

One person who does not need team tools or a large AI allowance: Pro. Two or more people who need a shared workspace, or one person who runs out of Pro's AI allowance every month: Business. Nobody should pay for Business only to remove a limit they never hit.

💡
Toolkit tip

Buy Business on the web; mobile Business is solo-only.

## Price
Pro Business
Yearly US$144, one person US$250 per person
Monthly US$18, one person US$25 per person
Seat minimum One person only None
Saving on yearly billing 33% 17%

Prices are before tax [2]. Pro is for exactly one person: "Only one person can use a Canva Pro account." [2] Business is priced per person and has no minimum, so one person can buy it. Business launched on 30 October 2025 at US$20 per person per month [8]; it was US$25 on 9 October 2026. For one person, Business costs US$106 a year more than Pro, about 1.74 times as much; our arithmetic.

Sources: the pricing page and the AI allowance article [2] [4]. The template and stock libraries are the same on both; nothing you can design on Business is locked on Pro, apart from team and brand features.

💡
Toolkit tip

Reduce unused seats before each billing date.

## AI allowance

This is the biggest difference for a single user. Canva's estimates per month: Pro up to 200 Premium AI uses or 20 Ultra uses; Business up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra [4]. Standard AI tools, such as Translate and Magic Write, are unmetered on both [4]. Business users can also buy one-off AI top-ups, each adding one month's Business allowance for 30 days [6]; Pro users cannot. Both can add AI Pass at US$100 per person per month, which multiplies the allowance by 40 on Pro and by 20 on Business [5].

For a heavy AI user working alone, Business at US$250 a year doubles the Premium allowance; Pro plus twelve months of AI Pass costs US$1,344. If double is enough, Business is the cheaper route by US$1,094; our arithmetic.

The same ceiling at the top

AI Pass multiplies the allowance differently on the two plans, 40 times on Pro and 20 times on Business [5]. Applied to the published estimates, both reach the same ceiling: 200 Premium uses times 40 and 400 times 20 are each 8,000 a month; our arithmetic. At the top of the AI ladder, Pro plus AI Pass costs US$118 a month and Business plus AI Pass US$125. The extra US$7 buys the Business features, not more AI. A heavy AI user working alone who needs AI Pass anyway gains nothing on AI by choosing Business.

⚠️
Watch out

Cancelling Business does not reinstate Pro.

## Brand tools

Pro includes five Brand Kits. Business includes 100 Brand Kits and approvals [2]. Brand Controls, which restrict team members to a kit's colors and fonts, are a team feature [40]. For a freelancer with a handful of clients, five kits may be enough. For an agency or a company with several sub-brands, Business is the plan that scales.

Marketing and analytics

Business adds Canva Grow Insights, which tracks the performance of Meta ads and suggests new variants [8], interactive data visualisation through Flourish [7], and, at launch, access to Leonardo.Ai's Essential plan for image and video generation [8]. If you run paid social campaigns and want creative analytics next to the editor, these are real additions. If you do not, they are unused.

⚠️
Watch out

On seat billing, cancelling an invite does not remove the seat.

## What Canva Grow does

Grow is Canva's campaign tool, included on Business. Its Learn section, which Canva previously called Ad insights, connects to Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn ad accounts and shows account health, performance over custom date ranges, and which creatives win [114]. Ads are tagged with creative attributes by AI, "only available on Canva Business and Canva Enterprise" [114]. Admins choose which roles can use which parts of Grow, and Education plans do not include it [113]. If you spend money on paid social, this is the feature most likely to justify Business on its own.

Flourish and Leonardo.Ai

Flourish makes interactive and animated charts. Embedding Flourish visualisations in Canva designs requires Business or Enterprise, or a paid Flourish subscription; a free Flourish user is prompted to get Canva Business for the Presenter plan's features [115]. Leonardo.Ai generates images and video from prompts. Anyone can sign in with a Canva account and gets Leonardo's Free plan automatically [116]; Canva's launch post for Business promised the Essential plan to Business subscribers [8]. Some of Canva's own image tools use Leonardo's model behind the scenes [116].

Storage and print

Pro includes 100GB of storage; Business 500GB [2]. Business also gets 10% off Canva Print orders where print is offered, not combinable with other print offers [7]. A business that prints regularly can recover part of the price difference: at 10%, about US$1,060 of print orders a year would cover the US$106 difference for one person; our arithmetic.

Team features

Only Business creates a team: shared workspace, roles, team Brand Kits, approvals and admin controls [7]. Inviting a first team member from Pro prompts the upgrade [17]. Each team member uses one paid seat [19]. On a yearly plan, Canva bills seats added since the last bill every three months [98].

Billing models in detail

Canva's Business billing article describes two models, and Settings tells you which one you are on: if you see Manage seats, your plan is billed by seats [98]. On seat billing, seats are billed in the next cycle even before an invitation is accepted; inviting someone when no empty seat is free can add a new paid seat; and removing a member or cancelling an invitation does not remove the seat, which stays billable until you reduce the count [98]. On a yearly plan you pay for the year but receive a bill every three months for seats added since the last one, charged for the remaining plan duration; seats added within three days of a billing date go on the following bill [98].

On the other model, the bill is based on who is on the team at the billing date, and you change it by adding or removing people before that date [98]. Either way, the job is the same: review the team before each billing date.

A year on Business, worked through

A team starts on yearly Business with three people, US$750. In the fifth month it adds two more, with eight months of the plan left; charged for the remaining duration, those two seats cost about US$333.33 on the next quarterly bill. The first year comes to about US$1,083.33, and the renewal for five people to US$1,250; our arithmetic at list prices. If one of the five leaves in month ten and the seat is not reduced, it is still billed at renewal.

Two Pro plans or one Business team

Two people who each need their own login can buy two separate Pro subscriptions for US$288 a year, or a two-person Business team for US$500; our arithmetic. The US$212 difference buys the shared workspace, team Brand Kits with approvals, ad insights, Flourish, double the AI allowance and more storage. If the two people rarely work on the same files and share designs by link, two Pro plans are cheaper.

How Business bills invitations

Canva's pages describe this two ways. The pricing page FAQ says "you only pay for the team members who accept your invitation" [2]. The Business billing help article says that on seat-based plans "Seats are billed in the next billing cycle, even if an invite hasn’t been accepted yet", and that cancelling an invitation or removing a member does not remove the seat [98]. If your Billing settings show Manage seats, reduce the seat count before each billing date. The Terms of Use add that seats removed after they are paid are not refunded [10].

Roles and approvals on Business

Business brings roles. The team owner controls settings, members and deletion; a team admin manages members, content, publishing settings, design approvals, Brand Kits and Brand Controls [120]. Design approvals can be switched on so that designs are reviewed before they are published, with settings for who may submit and who may review [121]. Multiple approvers and group reviewers are Enterprise features [121]. On Pro, none of this exists, because there is nobody else to approve.

Websites on both plans

Canva's website builder publishes from the editor. One help article lists websites as available to Free, Pro, Teams and Education users, without naming Business [117]; the article on custom domains lists Pro, Teams, Business and Education [119]. In practice, both Pro and Business can publish to a custom domain; on team plans only admins and owners can connect or buy a domain [119]. If a website is part of your reason to buy, confirm it in the trial.

Switching from Pro to Business

You can switch at any time; the Business rate applies from your next billing date [17]. Prepaid Pro plans must run out or be cancelled first [17]. And the switch is not reversible on its own: "If you switch from Pro to Business and then cancel Business, your original Pro plan is not automatically reinstated." [17] You would buy Pro again at the day's price.

Mobile subscriptions

Business bought in the mobile app is currently available to solo users only; to create a team, subscribe on the web [7]. Subscriptions bought through Apple or Google are refunded by those stores, not by Canva [12], and AI Pass is not available on app-store subscriptions [5]. Buy Business on the web.

The trial

Both plans have a free trial. Neither trial includes the paid plan's AI allowance: "Canva Pro and Canva Business free trials include the same size allowance as Canva Free." [11] During a Business trial you can invite team members without being billed for them [2]. Use the Business trial to test the team features with the real team, and do not judge the AI from it.

Legacy Teams subscribers

If you are on the old Teams plan, Business is an option, not an obligation. Teams subscribers keep their price, including when they add members, and keep receiving the features added to Pro, but not those built for Business [18]. Cancelling Teams is permanent [18]. Compare your current per-person Teams cost with Business before switching; for most early Teams customers, staying put is cheaper.

Free routes that replace both

Before choosing between Pro and Business, check whether you qualify for a free plan. Canva Education is free for eligible K-12 teachers, their students and districts [25], and Canva for Nonprofits gives one team of up to 50 users Pro features plus team tools at no cost [23]. Both need verification, and nonprofit applications are usually decided within 72 hours [23]. A 20-person nonprofit on Business would otherwise pay US$5,000 a year at list price; our arithmetic.

Leaving either plan

Cancelling either plan stops future payments and keeps paid features until the end of the period. Designs stay on Free, and on Business the team workspace moves to the free plan with designs and Brand Kit content retained and the admin still the owner [13]. Both plans can instead be paused for three months [14]. And Canva's default on refunds applies to both: "In most cases, Canva subscriptions aren’t refundable" [12].

Five questions that decide it

  1. Does anyone besides you need to edit in a shared workspace? If yes, Business.
  2. Do you exhaust about 200 Premium AI uses a month? If yes, Business doubles it for US$106 a year.
  3. Do you need more than five Brand Kits, or approvals? If yes, Business.
  4. Do you run Meta ads and want creative analytics in the editor? If yes, Business.
  5. Would you need AI Pass on either plan? If yes, AI is no longer a reason to pick Business.

Canva AI on both plans

Canva AI, the conversational assistant that can see a design and edit it, is fully available on paid plans; Free and Education get only some AI features with limited monthly use, and full access to Canva AI, its Memory Library and its connectors needs a paid plan [124]. Pro and Business both qualify. The difference between them is the size of the allowance, not access to the assistant.

Frequently asked questions

Is Canva Business worth it for one person?+

Only if you need its double AI allowance, ad insights, 100 Brand Kits or 10% print discount; otherwise Pro is US$106 a year cheaper.

Can I share Canva Pro with a colleague?+

No. Canva Pro is for one person; a second login needs Business or a second Pro plan.

## Our verdict

Pro is the better plan for most individuals. Business earns its price at the second person, or for a heavy AI user who would otherwise buy AI Pass. Buy Business on the web, check whether your team is billed by seats, and reduce unused seats before each billing date.
