Cancelling Canva Pro takes a minute, provided you cancel in the right place. The most common reason people keep being charged after cancelling is that they cancelled on the wrong channel: on the website when they subscribed through Apple, in one account when another account holds the plan, or in the app when the subscription lives on the web. This guide walks through each route, what happens after you cancel, the alternatives to cancelling, and what to do about refunds. Everything comes from Canva's help centre and terms, read on 9 October 2026.

The short answer

If you subscribed on canva.com: Settings, then Billing, then Cancel plan, and confirm [13]. If you subscribed in the iPhone or iPad app: cancel in your Apple subscriptions. If you subscribed in the Android app: cancel in Google Play. Uninstalling the app does not cancel anything [13]. You keep paid features until the end of the period you have paid for [13].

💡
Toolkit tip

Cancel at least two days before the renewal date.

## Step 1: find out where you subscribed

Canva's help centre says: "How you cancel depends on where you originally subscribed." [13] Check your billing email or bank statement. A charge from Canva, or Canva with an invoice number, means the web; a charge marked APPLECanva or GOOGLECanva means the app store [15]. PayPal charges also lead back to the web subscription.

Step 2: make sure you are in the right account

Many people have more than one Canva account without knowing it, because signing in with Google, Microsoft or Apple and with an email address can create separate accounts [22]. Each can hold its own plan. Sign in to the account named on your billing email. If you belong to several teams, switch to the team that holds the subscription before you look for the cancel button [13].

💡
Toolkit tip

Keep the cancellation confirmation email.

## Step 3: cancel on the web

For subscriptions bought directly from Canva, on desktop or web, the help centre lists these steps [13]:

  1. Log in to the right Canva account or team.
  2. On the homepage, select your profile to open the menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Go to Billing.
  5. On your plan, select Cancel plan.
  6. Select Continue cancellation.
  7. Choose why you want to cancel, then Continue cancellation.
  8. Optionally, say why you are cancelling.
  9. Select Cancel subscription.

You receive a confirmation email when the plan is cancelled [13]. Keep it. If no email arrives, the cancellation may not have gone through.

Step 4: cancel through Apple or Google

If you subscribed in the iOS app, cancel in your Apple subscription settings; if in the Android app, in Google Play. Canva's help centre is explicit: "uninstalling the app doesn't cancel your plan." [13] Refunds for App Store subscriptions are also handled by Apple, not by Canva [12]. If Google Play does not show the subscription, you may be signed in with a different Google account [13].

⚠️
Watch out

Uninstalling the app does not cancel the plan.

## Who can cancel a team plan

On Teams and Business, only owners and administrators can cancel [16]. A member who wants to stop paying for their own seat needs the admin to remove them. If you are the only admin and you are leaving the company, hand over the admin role before you go, or nobody will be able to cancel.

Removing one seat instead of cancelling

If you run a Business team and only want to pay for fewer people, you do not need to cancel. On teams billed by seats, removing a member or cancelling an invitation does not remove the seat; you reduce the seat count yourself in Settings, and should do it before the next billing date [98]. On teams billed by members, the bill follows who is on the team at the billing date [98]. Either way, the Terms of Use say "You will not receive a refund or credit for removing seats from your Team that have already been paid for." [10]

⚠️
Watch out

Cancelling legacy Teams is permanent.

## Removing someone from a team

Removed members lose access to designs created inside the team, so ask them to copy or download anything they need first [18]. Only owners and admins can manage members [120]. If the person leaving is the only admin, transfer the role before they go.

What happens after you cancel

Cancelling stops future payments, and paid features stay until the end of the current billing period [13]. After that:

For a team plan, members lose paid features at the end of the period, designs, Brand Kit content and shared folders are kept on the free plan, the team workspace moves to Free, and the admin remains the owner [13].

Cancelling a legacy Teams plan

"Cancelling Canva Teams is permanent." [13] Teams is closed to new sign-ups, so a cancelled Teams subscription cannot be restarted, and the old price goes with it [18]. If you might need a team plan later, Canva suggests switching to Business rather than cancelling [13]. Compare the per-person cost first; early Teams prices are usually lower.

Cancelling after switching from Pro to Business

If you moved from Pro to Business and now cancel Business, Pro does not return on its own: "If you switch from Pro to Business and then cancel Business, your original Pro plan is not automatically reinstated." [17] You would buy Pro again at the current price. If what you want is to go back to Pro, ask support to move you rather than cancelling.

Cancelling AI Pass

AI Pass is a separate line on your Billing page and can be cancelled on its own at any time; it stays available until the end of the current billing cycle [5]. Admins remove it for a member from the People page. If your subscription is managed through an app store, AI Pass is not available at all [5].

Pausing instead of cancelling

If you expect to come back, pausing may be better. A monthly or yearly plan can be paused for three months instead of cancelled; payments stop, premium features pause, and the plan resumes automatically with an email reminder before it does [14]. On a yearly plan you can pause only in the last two months before renewal, and pausing is not available on iOS App Store subscriptions [14]. The option appears inside the cancellation flow as "I want to pause my subscription" [14].

Downgrading instead of cancelling

If Business is more than you need, you can switch to Pro, for one person, rather than cancel; Canva's help centre points Teams subscribers to the same choice, Pro for solo use or Business for teams [18]. If you upgraded to Business by mistake and want your previous plan back, the help centre says to contact support [18]. Do it before the next billing date.

A yearly plan cancelled mid-year, worked through

Suppose you bought Pro yearly in January for US$144 and cancel in April. Under the Terms of Use, the plan stays active until the end of the paid year, in December, and you are not entitled to a refund of the fee already paid except where the law requires it [10]. Your AI allowance keeps resetting monthly on your billing date until then [4]. Cancelling early does one useful thing: it guarantees the plan will not renew. If you might change your mind, there is no cost to waiting, as long as you cancel before the renewal date.

Refunds

Expect none. "In most cases, Canva subscriptions aren’t refundable, as outlined in our Terms of Use." [12] Canva says it reviews every request and sometimes helps depending on the situation [12]. The Terms of Use add that when you cancel, the plan ends at the end of the billing cycle and "you will not be entitled to a refund of any fees already paid (except where required by law)" [10]. If a refund is approved, cards take 5 to 10 business days, PayPal 3 to 5, and other methods up to 20 [12].

If you are on a yearly plan you no longer want, cancel now anyway: it stops the renewal, and you keep access until the year ends.

If you paid with PayPal

Canva's cancellation guide asks you to check whether the charge came from Canva, Google, Apple or PayPal [13]. A PayPal payment is still a web subscription and is cancelled in Canva's Billing settings, not in PayPal. Cancelling the PayPal billing agreement alone may leave the plan active with a failed payment, which Canva may retry [22].

Cancelling a plan does not cancel other purchases. For print orders, the Terms of Use say Canva cannot refund "errors made by you or if you just change your mind about a print order", though a rejected order is refunded [10]. Domains bought through Canva are registered through Tucows, and "You're responsible for renewing your domain name." [10] Domain refunds have their own help article, separate from subscriptions [12].

Leaving Canva Education

Education accounts follow a different path. When a teacher or school deletes a Canva Education account or team, there are 14 days to log in and restore the account and data; after that it is deleted permanently [25]. Students who were part of a deleted class also have 14 days to access their accounts. Teachers leaving a school should move their own work to a personal account before the school removes them.

Charged after cancelling?

The help centre lists three causes [13]:

Search your inbox for Canva billing emails under other addresses, cancel through the app store if that is where you subscribed, and look for the cancellation confirmation; if there is none, cancel again [13]. Banks can also keep a subscription running after a card is replaced, through automatic card-update services [22]. If you still see charges, contact Canva with the invoice number or a screenshot [13].

Charged a day early?

"Our billing system runs on UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)." [13] Depending on your time zone, a charge can appear a day before the date you expected, including at the end of a trial. Canva says this is normal. Cancel at least two days before a renewal or trial end date to be safe.

Undoing a cancellation

Changed your mind? If you have requested cancellation and the subscription is still active, go to the Billing page and select the option to stay on your plan [13]. Once the period ends, you start a new subscription at the current price.

Deleting your account

Cancelling and deleting are different. To delete your Canva account entirely, cancel any paid plan first to avoid further charges; deletion permanently removes your designs, folders, templates, uploads, and the teams and apps you created [128]. The account is deleted 14 days after the request, and logging in during that time cancels the request [128]. If your account is managed by your organisation, you cannot delete it yourself and need the admin to remove you [128].

Before you cancel: save your work

Your designs stay on Free, but content you can no longer use changes. Templates and designs that rely on Pro content may need replacing once you lose Pro. Download finished work in the formats you need, export your Brand Kit details, and if you are leaving a team, copy anything you made inside the team workspace, because team designs stay in the team [17]. Deleted items sit in Trash for 30 days, then support can sometimes restore them within 14 days [93].

What happens to my designs if I cancel?+

They stay accessible on Canva Free, and your account remains active.

## Our read

Cancelling Canva is not hard; cancelling in the wrong place is the problem. Identify where you subscribed, check for a second account, cancel at least two days before the renewal, keep the confirmation email, and do not count on a refund. If you might come back within three months, pause instead.
