Canva and Adobe Express sell the same promise: publish good-looking content without being a designer. They are closer to each other than either is to Figma, and the choice between them comes down to price, the size of the library, AI, and how each one bills teams. We read Canva's pricing page for the US market on 9 October 2026. Adobe's site refused our requests from every route we tried, so Adobe Express figures come from a summary of its US pricing page fetched the same day; we use them as numbers only and do not quote them.
The short answer
For one person, Adobe Express Premium is cheaper month to month and Canva Pro is cheaper by the year only if you pay a full year up front, and only by a little. For a team, Adobe Express Teams is much cheaper at list price. Canva wins on templates, on the breadth of what you can make in one place, and on free plans for schools and nonprofits. Adobe wins on stock library size and on its links to Photoshop, Illustrator and the Adobe Fonts catalogue.
Trial Adobe Express Teams with real work if you buy five or more seats.
| Canva | Adobe Express | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Yes | Yes |
| Individual monthly | Pro, US$18 | Premium, US$9.99 |
| Individual yearly | Pro, US$144 | Not listed on the page we read |
| Trial | Yes, length not stated in Canva's help text | Yes |
Canva Pro is US$144 a year or US$18 a month in the US, before tax [2]. Adobe Express Premium was US$9.99 a month in the US fetch, billed monthly with no annual commitment [97]. A second fetch, served for a region that includes VAT, showed a higher figure inclusive of tax [97]; the US price excludes tax.
Our arithmetic. Twelve months of Adobe Express Premium cost US$119.88, which is US$24.12 less than a yearly Pro plan and US$96.12 less than twelve months of Pro paid monthly. If you are not ready to commit to a year, Adobe is the cheaper way to pay for a premium plan month by month.
What the free plans include
Canva Free offers more than 1,000 design types, 1.6M+ templates, 4.7M+ photos, videos, graphics and audio items, one Brand Kit limited to three colours, 5GB of storage, up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses a month, and access to Affinity [2]. Adobe Express Free, in the summary we could read, offers 100,000+ templates, 1M+ stock items, 4,000+ Adobe Fonts, 5GB of storage, daily free generations and scheduling to one account per social network [97]. On templates, Canva's free plan has sixteen times as many; on fonts, Adobe's free plan is generous.
Adobe Express figures here come from a fetch summary; confirm at checkout.
Canva Pro adds 3.6M+ templates, 141M+ premium stock items, AI tools such as resize, translate and background removal, five Brand Kits, social content scheduling, 100GB of storage, ten times the Free AI allowance and Affinity with AI [2]. Adobe Express Premium adds all premium templates, 200M+ stock items, the full Adobe Fonts collection of 30,000+ fonts, 100GB of storage, brand kits, 250 generative credits a month, scheduling to three accounts per network, one-click resize and video background removal [97]. Storage matches. Canva leads on templates and social accounts; Adobe leads on stock and fonts.
Price for a team
Adobe Express Teams was US$4.99 a month per licence for the first year and US$7.99 after that, with a minimum of two seats, on an annual subscription billed monthly [97]. Canva Business is US$250 a year or US$25 a month per person, with no minimum [2].
Our arithmetic, per year at list price:
- 2 people: Adobe US$119.76 in year one and US$191.76 after; Canva US$500.
- 3 people: Adobe US$179.64, then US$287.64; Canva US$750.
- 5 people: Adobe US$299.40, then US$479.40; Canva US$1,250.
- 10 people: Adobe US$598.80, then US$958.80; Canva US$2,500.
Even after Adobe's first-year discount ends, a five-person team pays about US$770 a year less on Adobe Express Teams. That gap is the single biggest reason to look at Adobe if you are buying for a team.
Canva subscriptions are in most cases not refundable.
The two team plans bill differently. Adobe Express Teams is an annual subscription billed monthly, with a two-seat minimum [97]: you commit to a year and pay for it in twelve instalments. Canva Business can be bought monthly with no commitment or yearly at a discount, from one seat [2]. That flexibility costs money. Five people on Canva Business paying monthly spend US$1,500 over a year; on yearly billing, US$1,250; our arithmetic. Canva's seat billing has its own catch: on seat-based plans, seats are billed in the next cycle "even if an invite hasn’t been accepted yet" [98].
What the team plans include
Adobe's summary lists for Teams: brand kits with controls and password-protected locked template elements, real-time co-editing and shared reviews, 1TB of storage per user pooled across the organisation, and 250 generative credits a month per user [97]. Canva Business includes team administration, 100 Brand Kits with approvals, ad performance insights, Flourish charts, 10% off print orders and 500GB of storage [2], and the launch post added access to Leonardo.Ai's Essential plan for image and video generation [8]. Both have brand locking; Canva has more brand kits and more tools in the plan, Adobe more storage per person.
Brand control compared
Adobe's summary describes enforced brand controls with password-protected locked template elements on Teams [97]. Canva's Brand Controls restrict team members to the colours and fonts in a Brand Kit, and Business adds approvals so a design can be checked before it is published [40] [2]. Adobe locks parts of a template; Canva restricts the palette and adds a review step. For a brand team worried about someone moving a logo, Adobe's model is tighter. For one worried about off-brand colours and unreviewed posts, Canva's covers it.
Templates and stock
This is where the two products differ most. Canva's paid plans offer 3.6M+ templates and 141M+ premium photos, videos, graphics and audio items; Free has 1.6M+ templates and 4.7M+ items [2]. Adobe's summary lists 100,000+ templates and 1M+ stock items on Free, 200M+ stock items and all premium templates on Premium, and 519,000+ templates with 350M+ stock items on Teams [97].
So the trade is clear. Canva has several times more templates; Adobe Express has more stock photography, video and music, drawn from Adobe Stock. If you start from a template and swap in your own photos, Canva has more starting points. If you build from stock imagery, Adobe has the bigger shelf.
Fonts
Adobe Express Premium includes the full Adobe Fonts collection, more than 30,000 fonts, against 4,000+ on Free [97]. Typography-sensitive brands that already license Adobe Fonts will feel at home. Canva lets paid users upload brand fonts into a Brand Kit [40], which covers most companies that have a defined typeface.
AI
Adobe Express counts generative credits: daily free generations on Free, 250 a month on Premium and on Teams per user [97]. Adobe's separate Firefly Pro plan offers a far larger monthly allowance. Canva counts estimated uses per tier: up to 20 Standard or Premium uses on Free, 200 Premium or 20 Ultra on Pro, 400 or 40 on Business, with Standard tools such as Translate and Magic Write unmetered on paid plans [4]. Canva's top-up for heavy users is AI Pass at US$100 per person per month [5].
The units differ, so a straight comparison is not possible. What can be compared is the shape. Both vendors meter generation, both reset monthly, and both sell more for a price. Canva meters per member and never pools [4].
Your content and AI training
Canva's privacy policy allows it to use your content to train its models, with a setting to opt out in your privacy controls; Education content is excluded [47]. Canva's guidance on AI output warns that you may not have exclusive rights to it and that depicting brands or characters can infringe [49]. We could not read Adobe's AI terms from the sources available to us, so we make no claim about them; read both before uploading client material.
Social scheduling
Adobe Express Free schedules to one account per social network and Premium and Teams to three [97]. Canva's Content Planner lets each user on Pro, Business and Enterprise connect up to 80 social accounts per team, and Free users link one account at a time per platform [33]. Canva's published platform list covers Facebook Pages, Instagram Business, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr [33]. For an agency or a brand running many accounts, Canva's limit is far higher.
Video, translation and resizing
Canva's Magic Video builds a 60-second video from one to ten clips or photos, applying templates, transitions and music automatically [123]. Translate converts a design into one of more than 100 languages, one language at a time, within a 2,000-character limit per run [122]. Resize turns one design into the formats of other channels . Adobe's summary lists one-click resize and video background removal on Premium [97]. Both cover the everyday jobs; Canva's video and translation tools are documented in more detail in what we could read.
Ads and campaign analytics
Canva Business includes Canva Grow. Its Learn section, formerly called Ad insights, connects to Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn ad accounts and shows which ads perform and why; AI tagging of ads by creative attribute is available only on Business and Enterprise [114]. Education plans do not include Grow, and admins can limit which roles use it [113]. We found no ad-analytics feature in the Adobe Express summary. A team that buys paid social will find this a real reason to prefer Canva Business.
Websites
Canva publishes websites from its editor, free on a .canva.site domain, with custom domains on paid plans and a limit of five domains bought outside Canva [117] [118]. Adobe's pricing summary did not mention a website builder. For a small business that needs a one-page site or a link-in-bio page next to its social content, that is one less subscription.
Storage
Free plans match at 5GB on both [97] [2]. Paid individual plans match at 100GB. Teams differ: 1TB per user pooled on Adobe Express Teams [97], 500GB on Canva Business [2]. Video-heavy teams will notice.
Education and nonprofits
Both are free for qualifying K-12 educators [97] [25]. Canva goes further for nonprofits: one team of up to 50 users gets Pro features free [23]. We did not find a matching nonprofit plan in the Adobe Express pricing summary we could read.
Trials and billing
Adobe's summary states that billing begins when the free trial ends, and cancelling before then avoids a charge [97]. Canva's trial works the same way, but its AI allowance is the Free plan's, the trial is available once per account and once per payment method, and Canva's billing clock runs on UTC [11] [13]. On refunds, Canva's help centre says "In most cases, Canva subscriptions aren’t refundable" [12]; Adobe's refund terms were not part of what we could read, so check them before buying.
The ecosystem argument
Adobe Express connects to the professional Adobe apps, which matters if your designers already work in Photoshop or Illustrator. Canva has its own answer: it owns Affinity, the professional photo, vector and layout app, and gives it free to every Canva account, with Canva's AI tools inside Affinity on paid plans [55]. A small team that cannot justify Creative Cloud gets a professional tool at no cost on Canva's side.
A worked example: a five-person social team
A team of five producing social content for three brands. Our arithmetic at US list prices.
- Canva Business, yearly: US$1,250. Each person can connect up to 80 social accounts per team [33], 100 Brand Kits cover the three brands with room to spare, and approvals are built in.
- Adobe Express Teams: US$299.40 in year one and US$479.40 a year after. Scheduling covers three accounts per network per person [97], enough for three brands on each network.
Adobe saves about US$770 a year after the first. Canva earns its premium if the team needs more than three accounts per network, approvals in the publishing flow, or the larger template library.
How we read Adobe's prices
Adobe's site blocked every request we sent, from our server and from a desktop browser. We used a summary of the US pricing page fetched on 9 October 2026; a second fetch, served for a region with VAT, showed a higher Premium price including tax [97]. We therefore use Adobe's figures only as numbers, never as quotes, and recommend checking them at checkout. Canva's figures come from its US pricing page and its embedded price data [2].
Where Canva wins
- A much larger template library, including on the free plan.
- More in one product: Docs, Sheets, websites, print ordering, social scheduling for up to 80 accounts.
- Free nonprofit teams of up to 50.
- Affinity included with every account.
- Ease of use rated at the top of the category: 4.73 on GetApp from 13,458 ratings [78].
Where Adobe Express wins
- Team pricing: about a third of Canva's list price per person, even after the first-year discount.
- Month-to-month premium for one person at a lower price.
- A larger stock library and the full Adobe Fonts collection.
- More storage per person on team plans.
Frequently asked questions
Is Adobe Express cheaper than Canva?+
For teams, yes at list price: Adobe Express Teams was US$4.99 a month per licence in year one and US$7.99 after, against Canva Business at US$25. For one person paying monthly, Adobe Express Premium at US$9.99 is also cheaper than Canva Pro at US$18.
Which has more templates?+
Canva: 3.6M+ on paid plans against 519,000+ on Adobe Express Teams. Adobe has the larger stock library.
For a solo creator, the gap is small, and Canva's templates usually decide it. For a team buying five or more seats, Adobe Express Teams costs so much less that it deserves a proper trial with real work, especially if the team already uses Adobe tools. Pick Canva when breadth, templates and social scheduling at volume matter more than the seat price. Before signing, read both companies' current refund terms; Canva's are strict, and Adobe's were outside what we could verify.
