Instagram limits how many links fit in your bio, and TikTok gives you one only under conditions. Later's answer is Link in Bio, a small landing page that lives at linkin.bio followed by your username. Later itself calls it a mini-website: a page with your profile name, a short bio, buttons, banners and a grid of your posts, where each post can open a product page, an article or a signup form. It is included on every Later Social plan, the Free plan too, and it needs no coding. That makes it one of the few parts of Later you can use substantially on the Free plan, with a Later banner and a few Starter-only extras. On Instagram it needs a business or creator profile: Later no longer supports personal profiles, and switching is free.

The page is tied to your plan structure, not to a single account. You get as many Link in Bio pages as your plan has Social Sets [1], so Starter gives you one page, Growth two and Scale six. The URL belongs to an Access Group rather than to an Instagram or TikTok profile, and the same link can serve both your Instagram and your TikTok bios, with visitors switching between the two feeds on the page. That design is convenient for a brand with one identity across networks. It also explains several of the traps covered near the end of this guide.

Setting up your page on desktop

Setup happens on the web. The Android app cannot set up Link in Bio at all, and the mobile apps handle only Instagram post links, not TikTok ones, so plan to do the first pass on a computer. The core decisions are the username, the profile text and the design. Everything else can be added later without breaking the URL you share. Here is the order we would follow, based on Later's own setup guides:

  1. Open Link in Bio in Later on desktop and choose a username; it becomes the address, linkin.bio/username.
  2. Add a profile name of up to 30 characters and a bio of up to 115 characters, with no line breaks.
  3. Pick a theme, then adjust colors, fonts, button shapes, styles and shadows.
  4. Add your first buttons for the destinations that matter most, such as a shop, a booking page or a newsletter.
  5. Add social links so visitors can find your other profiles.
  6. Attach links to recent Instagram or TikTok posts so the feed becomes clickable.
  7. Copy the linkin.bio address into your Instagram bio and, if eligible, your TikTok bio.

Choose the username carefully. It can be changed only once every 30 days, it is first come, first served, and it cannot be another company's name or trademark; Later runs a dispute form for trademark conflicts. If you already run a Linktree page, Later offers an import that brings over the profile, social links and design, which saves most of the first five steps.

Toolkit tip
Pick a username you will keep

The linkin.bio username can change only once every 30 days. Settle it before you print it anywhere or share it with partners.

Linked posts: turning your feed into clickable tiles

The heart of the product is the post grid. When you attach a link to an Instagram or TikTok post, that post appears on your Link in Bio page as a tile, and a tap sends the visitor where you chose. Posts without a link do not appear, so the page will not mirror your full feed. That is intentional. It keeps the grid focused on posts that lead somewhere, but it surprises people who expect a copy of their profile.

You can add links to posts you schedule through Later and to posts published directly in Instagram or TikTok, and you can edit a post's link after it goes live. Instagram posts can carry up to five links each, which suits a carousel showing several products. TikTok posts are limited to one link per post. Adding several links to one Instagram post is a desktop task. There is one scheduling catch: when you schedule an Instagram post in Later, the Link in Bio field is offered only for auto publish posts, not for posts sent as a notification to finish on your phone. If you rely on notification publishing for some formats, add the link afterward through the web manager.

Collab posts on Instagram behave differently. They appear in Link in Bio only for the business or creator profile that created the post, so the invited partner will not see that post on their own page. Later warns that collab posts may also be missing from the Visual Planner and from analytics for invited collaborators. Agencies running collaborations should decide up front which account starts the post. That account owns the link.

Below the profile, the page is built from blocks. Buttons, button groups and both banner types are on every plan, Free included (Later names no plan for Featured Media), and the combination is what turns a link list into something closer to a storefront. The blocks can also travel beyond the page itself: Later's marketing pages describe a Link in Bio Gallery, with no plan named, that lets you embed the clickable feed on your own website or blog, so the same tiles can sell from a product page too. Plan the order once, then update the blocks as campaigns change.

Buttons and button groups

You can add as many buttons as you like, which covers the classic link list: your website, a current sale, a booking page, a podcast. When the list grows, button groups help. A group collapses related buttons under one header button, so a visitor taps Shop and then sees the categories, instead of scrolling past a long list. Social links sit separately and offer one icon each for Threads, TikTok, Email, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Google My Business, Pinterest and WhatsApp.

Featured Banner and Multi-Item Banner

The Featured Banner is pinned to the top of the page and cannot be moved lower, and a page can hold only one at a time. It suits a single campaign or launch. The Multi-Item Banner is the carousel version: it needs between 2 and 100 items, again one per page, and works for a product collection. Its click counts per item show in the Link in Bio manager rather than on the main analytics page, so look there when you report on it.

Featured Media

Featured Media puts one post or one YouTube video in a prominent slot. By default it shows your latest linked post with the first 160 characters of its caption. Only one item can be featured at a time, YouTube videos cannot start at a custom time, and custom featured images work best at up to 1360 x 765 pixels. Use it for whatever you most want clicked this week.

💡
Toolkit tip
Use button groups for long lists

Group related buttons under one header button so the page stays short. Visitors open only the section they need.

TikTok, YouTube and the design layer

TikTok is supported on every current plan, Free included, but the bio link itself depends on TikTok. Only TikTok Business accounts with more than 1,000 followers can show a clickable website link [2], so a smaller or personal account cannot point its bio at the page yet. Once eligible, the TikTok feed sits next to the Instagram feed. Two limits apply: TikTok videos do not play inside the Link in Bio feed, and you cannot choose the cover image shown there.

YouTube enters through the YouTube feature on every plan. A YouTube Short or video can be shown as Featured Media, or you can link it from a button or the Featured Banner. On the design side, every theme and customization option is available on all current plans, including Free. You get premade themes, custom colors, fonts, button shapes, styles and shadows, and background images, which work best at up to 2048 pixels wide. In practice that means the look of a Free page and a paid page can be identical, apart from one element covered below.

⚠️
Watch out
Moving profiles deletes the design

Moving a profile to another Access Group permanently deletes its Link in Bio page design. Record your layout before reorganizing.

The signup form, Mailchimp and the CSV beta

Link in Bio can carry a signup form for newsletters, promotions and other marketing, on every current plan [3]. Collected addresses go one of two ways: to Mailchimp through the integration, or into a CSV export, which is still a beta feature. The Mailchimp route has permission rules on both sides. Only a Manager, Admin or Owner of the Mailchimp account can connect it, and only the Later account owner can choose which Mailchimp audience receives the signups. Deleting the Mailchimp app removes the signup form permanently, though emails already in Mailchimp stay there.

The CSV route needs more housekeeping. An exported report can be downloaded from the Link in Bio manager for only 24 hours, so save it right away. Unsubscribed people are not removed from later CSV reports either; you have to filter them out yourself before importing the list anywhere. For anyone mailing these contacts regularly, Mailchimp is the cleaner path. Later has no other email platform connections, no public API and no Zapier, so other email tools are reached only through the CSV.

⚠️
Watch out
CSV exports expire in 24 hours

An exported email CSV can be downloaded from the Link in Bio manager for only 24 hours, and unsubscribed people are not filtered out. Save it at once and clean it before use.

Affiliate links through Mavely

Creators can monetize the page. Later acquired Mavely, an affiliate platform, in 2025, and Link in Bio can hold Later Creator affiliate links that earn commission on qualifying purchases. Picking affiliate links you already have works on every plan, Free included; generating new ones from a product URL needs Starter or above, and the Convert Link option appears only when the brand is available through Later Creator. Joining as a creator has no application and no follower minimum, and payouts arrive twice a month. Brands that want unique Shopify discount codes per influencer are in different territory: that feature belongs to Later Influence, a separate, quote-only product, not to Later Social. Our guide to Later for creators covers the creator side in more depth.

Tracking clicks: UTM tags, Google Analytics and the analytics tab

Later adds UTM tracking to Link in Bio links by default, so the visits show up in Google Analytics with a source and medium attached. The default values are later-linkinbio as the source and referral as the medium; utm_content is no longer added, a change dated to July 2024. On the Free plan this tracking is always on and cannot be switched off. From Starter up you can set custom UTM values, up to 100 characters of letters, numbers and underscores, and any UTM values typed by hand into a link override the defaults.

Inside Later, Link in Bio analytics report page views, post clicks, button clicks and click-through rate, on the web only, with a CSV export. Free accounts keep three months of this data; the paid plans keep more, though Later's own help pages disagree on exact click history by plan, so check the plan reference before you rely on a long lookback. On Growth and up, Link in Bio also reports page views by location, collected every 24 hours from midnight UTC, whatever your time zone. One gap matters for TikTok users: Link in Bio clicks from TikTok do not appear in the TikTok Post Performance dashboard. Plan your reports around the web dashboard and its export.

What Free gets and what Starter changes

Free is generous here. It includes unlimited buttons, the TikTok feed, all themes and fonts, the YouTube feature, one to five links per Instagram post, button groups, banners and email collection. The visible difference is a Later branded banner on the page [4]. Starter removes it, adds a custom SEO title of up to 70 characters and a meta description of up to 160 characters, unlocks custom UTM values and lets you generate new affiliate links.

Starter costs $25 a month billed monthly, or $18.75 a month billed yearly. Whether that is worth it for the page alone depends on how much the banner bothers you; most of Later's price buys scheduling, not Link in Bio. Remember that the 14-day trial converts to a paid plan automatically unless you cancel, and plans are non-refundable except case by case. Our page on whether Later is free sets out the rest of the Free plan.

Moves and deletions that wipe your work

Moving profiles between Access Groups

Because the page belongs to an Access Group, reorganizing profiles is risky. Moving a social profile from one Access Group to another permanently deletes its Link in Bio page design. Only scheduled posts transfer with it; media moves separately and labels are removed. Growth and Scale allow unlimited Access Groups, which agencies use to separate clients, so this is a real risk on those plans. Merging two Later accounts has the same effect on the page design. Screenshot your page and note your buttons before any restructuring.

Deleting a page and other pitfalls

Deleting a Link in Bio page is permanent for its formatting and customizations, though linked posts stay connected to your social profiles. Two smaller issues cause support tickets. Link shorteners such as bit.ly can interfere with the setup, so paste the plain linkin.bio address into your bio. And if you ever remove an Instagram profile from a creator campaign application, its scheduled posts and Link in Bio are removed from Later Social too, restorable by re-adding the profile within 30 days.

How it compares with Buffer's Start Page

Buffer offers a similar page, called Start Page. It is part of Buffer's Free plan, which allows up to three channels. The difference shows up after an upgrade, because Buffer prices its paid plans per channel and Start Page counts as one of those channels. On Buffer Essentials that means $6 per channel a month billed monthly for the page's slot, or $5 per channel billed yearly. Later works the other way: one page comes with each Social Set at no extra charge. For a deeper look at the two tools as a whole, see Buffer vs Later.

Frequently asked questions

Is Later's Link in Bio free?+

Yes, it is included on every Later Social plan, including the Free plan. Free pages carry a Later branded banner; Starter and up remove it.

How many links can I add to one Instagram post?+

Up to five links per Instagram post, added on desktop. TikTok posts can carry only one link each.

Can I use Later's Link in Bio on TikTok?+

Yes, on every current plan, but TikTok shows a clickable website link only for Business accounts with more than 1,000 followers. TikTok videos do not play inside the Link in Bio feed.

Does Later's Link in Bio connect to Mailchimp?+

Yes. A signup form can send emails to Mailchimp, connected by a Manager, Admin or Owner of the Mailchimp account, or you can export a CSV, which is still in beta.

Does Link in Bio work with Google Analytics?+

Yes. Later adds UTM tags by default, with later-linkinbio as the source and referral as the medium. Custom UTM values need Starter or above.

What happens if I delete my Link in Bio page?+

Its formatting and customizations are gone for good, but linked posts stay connected to your social profiles. Moving a profile to another Access Group also deletes the page design.

The bottom line

Later's Link in Bio is a capable free link page with one standout trait: it turns linked Instagram and TikTok posts into a clickable grid, with up to five links per Instagram post, and adds buttons, banners, an email form and affiliate links around them. The Free version carries a Later banner, and Starter removes it. The main risks are structural: TikTok bio links need a Business account with more than 1,000 followers, CSV email exports expire after 24 hours, and moving profiles between Access Groups deletes the page design. Set it up on desktop, keep a record of your layout, and it will do its job well.
