The verdict, in one paragraph

Later is a social media scheduler that started in 2014 as an Instagram tool and still thinks like one. The visual calendar, the Instagram grid preview and the Link in Bio page are the heart of the product, and they are good. Today it publishes to eight networks: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat. Plans start at $25 a month billed monthly, or $18.75 a month billed yearly, and every plan is priced by Social Sets and users rather than per channel [1]. The catch sits around the product, not in it. The trial bills you automatically, refunds are the exception, there is no public API, and support runs on email.

The name covers two businesses, so it helps to separate them early. Later Social, the subject of this review, is the scheduler. Later Influence is a separate influencer marketing platform, formerly Mavrck, with creator search across millions of creators, campaign management and Stripe payouts. It is sold only on a quote, through a pricing request. Mavrck acquired Later in 2022, and the two have operated as one brand since January 2024. None of the influencer features come with a Later Social plan, whatever the shared logo suggests.

Who should pick Later, and who should skip it

Later fits brands, creators and small marketing teams whose work starts on Instagram and TikTok and spreads from there. A boutique planning its grid a month ahead, a café posting Reels and Stories, a creator who lives off a Link in Bio page, a two-person marketing team that needs approvals and a shared calendar: all of them get a tool built around the way they already work. The grid preview, drag-and-drop calendar and visual media library make planning feel like arranging a mood board. Agencies can fit too on Growth and up, where unlimited Access Groups separate brands cleanly and clients can view a shared Instagram grid and calendar through a link, without an account (calendar links expire after 48 hours).

Skip it if your social work is mostly text or conversation, or if you still need X, which Later dropped in 2025. Bluesky, Mastodon, Reddit and Google Business Profile are not supported either. Teams that run customer care on social will find the inbox thin, and anyone who wants their scheduler wired into a CRM or an automation tool will hit a wall, because there is no public API and no Zapier. Buyers who hate surprise charges should also read the billing section twice. That is where most complaints come from.

Toolkit tip
Count Instagram accounts first

Each Social Set holds one profile per network, so two Instagram accounts need two Social Sets. That count, more than headcount, decides between Starter and Growth.

Plans, prices and the Social Set math

Later sells three self-serve plans in US dollars, before tax. Yearly billing saves 25%, which the pricing page presents as three months free. Every paid plan includes the calendar, the grid preview, Link in Bio and some AI credits. The differences that matter sit in four places: Social Sets, users, monthly post caps and how far back analytics reach. Read each price with its period. A yearly rate is billed in one payment up front.

Plan Billed monthly Billed yearly Social Sets Users Posts per profile a month
Starter $25 a month $18.75 a month ($225 a year) 1 1 30
Growth $50 a month $37.50 a month ($450 a year) 2 2 180
Scale $110 a month $82.50 a month ($990 a year) 6 4 Unlimited

What a Social Set is, and why it decides your plan

A Social Set holds one profile of each supported network, so one set covers up to eight profiles. The rule that trips people up is simple: two Instagram accounts need two Social Sets, even if you connect nothing else. Starter therefore suits one brand with one presence per network. Growth covers two brands, and Scale covers six. Each set also gets its own Link in Bio page. Post caps apply per profile (YouTube Shorts are unlimited on every paid plan) and reset on the first of each month at midnight UTC, whatever your renewal date. Drafts count against the cap until they are scheduled, and Instagram Stories count too. Thirty posts per profile is about one a day. For a brand posting Stories daily, that is tight.

Add-ons and the real monthly bill

Growth and Scale can buy extras; Starter cannot. An extra Social Set costs $15 a month ($11.25 billed yearly), an extra user $5 ($3.75), and 100 extra AI credits $5 ($3.75). A Growth team that adds one user and one Social Set on monthly billing pays $50 + $5 + $15 = $70 a month, by our arithmetic. Add-ons are recurring, can be bought only on desktop, and removing one gives no refund for unused time. Nonprofits get 50% off the annual Growth plan, though not on add-ons.

A Free plan also exists, documented in the help center rather than on the pricing page, with 12 posts per profile a month, a calendar that reaches only two weeks back and forward, and a Link in Bio page carrying a Later banner. It has no Best Time to Post and support tickets only in the first 30 days. Plans started before July 1, 2025 are legacy plans with different names and limits, so older reviews often describe a product that no longer matches the price list. Our Later pricing guide works through more team sizes.

The trial and refund rules deserve a calendar reminder

The 14-day trial is one per account and asks for a card at checkout. It converts to a paid plan automatically unless you cancel before it ends [2]. Extra Social Sets or users added during the trial are free until the last day, and then they are charged as well. After that, plans renew automatically and are non-refundable, with exceptions handled case by case that may carry early termination fees [3]. Upgrades are prorated and immediate, downgrades wait for the next billing cycle, and dropping to Free counts as a cancellation. Pay by major credit card; PayPal and bank transfers are not accepted. If you subscribe in the iOS app, Apple handles billing and refunds instead.

⚠️
Watch out
The trial turns into a charge

The 14-day trial needs a card and converts to a paid plan automatically. Plans are non-refundable except case by case, so cancel before the last day if you are not sure.

Publishing: the calendar, auto publish and notifications

The calendar is where Later earns its reputation. Paid plans see a year back and forward, posts drag between days, and the Visual Instagram Planner previews up to 60 upcoming posts as they will sit on your grid. Growth and up can share that preview with a client, who opens it without logging in. Best Time to Post suggests slots for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok on every paid plan, while Growth adds Smart Scheduling and best times across several profiles at once. Starter users get only a short taste of the multi-profile view.

Auto publish versus notification publishing

Most posts go out on their own. That is the default. Facebook, Pinterest, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat are always auto-published. Instagram and TikTok can also use notification publishing: your phone pings at the scheduled time and you finish the post in the native app. That path exists for a reason. Trending music, stickers, polls and similar touches cannot be added to auto-published Instagram and TikTok posts, and Stories with links or tags need the notification route too. Auto publish works for Stories on Instagram business profiles; creator profiles use notifications for Stories. Instagram also caps auto publishing at 50 posts per profile in a rolling 24 hours, and auto-published captions often lose their line breaks.

Limits worth knowing before you migrate

Personal Instagram profiles can no longer connect at all; you need a business or creator profile. Carousels scheduled through Later stop at 10 items with one caption, not the 20 the Instagram app allows, because the Instagram API caps partners there. YouTube support means Shorts only, and Snapchat means video Spotlight and Public Story posts. Snapchat scheduling happens on desktop only; Threads and YouTube Shorts need desktop or iOS. Google Drive can no longer feed the media library, though Dropbox and Canva can. Finally, X support has ended. New X connections stopped on July 30, 2025, and support ended on August 28, 2025, when scheduled X posts stopped publishing. Pages still listing X are outdated; it was removed.

Curious how Later feels in practice?Try Later →

For many small accounts, Link in Bio is the reason to stay. It is included. Each Social Set gets one page at a linkin.bio address, with a clickable feed of your Instagram and TikTok posts, unlimited buttons, themes and a featured banner. You can attach up to five links to a single Instagram post, so a product photo can point to several items. An email signup form collects addresses into a CSV export (a beta feature) or straight into Mailchimp, on every current plan including Free. That makes the page a small list-building tool, not only a link list.

The plan differences are modest but visible. On the Free plan, the page carries a Later banner and UTM tracking that cannot be switched off. Starter removes the banner and adds SEO settings and custom UTM values, while Growth adds page views by location and Pinterest click tracking. Two cautions apply. Moving a profile between Access Groups permanently deletes its Link in Bio page design, and the Android app cannot set the page up at all. For a buyer coming from a stand-alone link-in-bio tool, the main win is one less subscription.

Analytics, inbox, approvals and listening

Analytics by plan

History depth is the main plan lever: three months on Starter, a year on Growth and two years on Scale for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Pinterest stays at three months on every plan, and Later's pages differ on Threads: the pricing page applies the same tiers, while the help center says three months on every plan. Personal LinkedIn profiles get analytics from Starter up (desktop only, CSV export from Growth). There is nothing for LinkedIn Pages, YouTube Shorts or Snapchat. Meta's API changes also removed impressions, profile views and website clicks from Instagram analytics, which affects every tool that reads Instagram. Scale adds Meta Ads Analytics and Custom Analytics, a dashboard with your own engagement formulas. It is solid post-level reporting. It is not a reporting suite.

Social Inbox and approvals

Social Inbox arrives on Growth and gathers Instagram and Facebook direct messages plus Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments. It is still in beta and desktop only. Instagram messages can be answered only within seven days, TikTok messages are not supported, and an owner cannot limit which members see the inbox. Approvals also start at Growth: team members with the Reviewer role give the approval, while external review links collect feedback comments only. Approval does not block publishing, though. A scheduled post goes live at its time whether anyone approved it or not, unless it stays a draft. External review links expire after seven days and have no password. Approvals do not cover Instagram Stories.

Listening on Scale

Scale adds social listening: brand mentions on Instagram and TikTok, a Brand Health sentiment view that also covers Facebook Pages, competitive benchmarking against up to 20 competitors on Instagram, and trend and industry insights with predicted hashtags. It is narrow by design. Custom keyword topics belong to a legacy Enterprise plan, not to Scale, and Instagram holds hashtag search to 30 keywords in a rolling seven days. For a brand that wants to watch its Instagram and TikTok niche, that is useful. For brand monitoring across the open web, it is not enough.

💡
Toolkit tip
Keep unapproved posts as drafts

Approval does not block publishing on Later. If a post must wait for sign-off, leave it as a draft instead of scheduling it.

AI credits, integrations and the missing API

AI that writes captions and ideas, and little else

Later's AI covers two jobs: the Caption Writer and Ideas, which suggests content within themes you set. Both draw on one monthly pool of credits: 5 on Starter, 50 on Growth and 100 on Scale. One credit buys a caption, or three ideas, and the pool resets on the first of each month. Both are beta features: the Caption Writer works in English only, and Ideas runs on desktop only. Five credits is a sample, not a workflow, so Starter buyers should treat AI as a bonus rather than a reason to choose the plan.

Integrations

The list is short. Very short. Canva exports designs into the media library on every plan, one item at a time, and Dropbox works as a media source. Mailchimp connects to Link in Bio forms. That is most of it. HubSpot, Zapier, ClickUp, WordPress and webhooks are not supported, and Google Drive was dropped. Teams that need posts to flow in from a content system or results to flow out to a CRM will be copying and pasting.

Why you will not find a Later API

Later Social has no public API and no developer platform, and it offers no webhooks either. You cannot build your own integration, pull post data into a warehouse or a spreadsheet on a schedule, or connect an AI agent to your calendar. Later does use the official Instagram and TikTok APIs to publish, but those are not interfaces you can call through Later. Searches mix the two up. If programmatic access matters to your team, make it a shortlist criterion now, because no plan unlocks it.

Support, security and the privacy clause

Support is email and tickets opened through a chatbot, plus a help center open around the clock. There is no phone line on any plan. Replies typically take one to two business days, and Scale gets priority support. Free users can open chatbot tickets only in their first 30 days. The desktop app runs in English, Spanish, French and German, but official support is in English. The help center itself is large and practical, though some older pages still mention legacy plan names, or X even though it was removed in 2025. Check the date first.

On security, Later offers two-factor authentication by email or authenticator app and locks an account after five failed logins. Current plans have no single sign-on, and we could not confirm a security certification. The privacy notice deserves a careful read. Its August 31, 2026 update lets Later use customer content, including uploaded text, images and video, to train its own AI models [4]. Third-party AI systems may not train on your personal information. Data is stored in the United States, EU transfers rely on standard contractual clauses, and a deleted account's data is removed within 90 days. Brands with confidential launches or client work should weigh that training clause before uploading.

What users say about Later

The business-software review sites rate Later Social well, and the praise there centers on ease of use, the visual planner and Link in Bio. Trustpilot is where mostly unhappy customers go to complain, and there the complaints center on charges after the trial ended and refunds that were refused. Our reading is that those complaints follow the billing rules: reviewers on business sites judge the scheduler they chose, while many Trustpilot reviewers describe a trial that turned into a charge under a non-refundable policy. Treat that as a warning about billing, not about the scheduler.

Later next to Buffer and Hootsuite

The pricing models differ more than the features. Buffer charges per channel, so eight channels on Buffer Essentials billed yearly come to $40 a month, by our arithmetic, against $18.75 a month billed yearly for one Later Social Set, though Starter caps each profile at 30 posts a month while Buffer Essentials schedules up to 5,000 posts per channel under fair use. Buffer, though, has a free plan with three channels, unlimited users on its Team plan, and an API on every plan, and it still posts to X, which Later dropped in 2025. Hootsuite charges per user, from $99 a user a month billed annually, and brings listening, a broader inbox and enterprise tools that Later does not try to match. Later sits between them, and is weaker than both on integrations.

The choice usually comes down to how your team works. A brand that plans a grid and lives on Reels will feel at home in Later. A team that writes text posts across many networks, or wants an API, leans toward Buffer. A larger team running customer care and listening at scale leans toward Hootsuite, at a much higher price per person. Our Buffer vs Later comparison covers the head-to-head, and our Later alternatives guide widens the field.

How we score Later

We read Later's pricing page in US dollars in October 2026, with both billing options, the help center articles behind each plan rule, the product pages, the terms and the privacy notice, and we checked every claim against the page that supports it. We did not buy a plan or schedule live posts. The score follows our social media rubric, and the reasoning for each axis sits on the card below.

That puts Later at 3.1/5: strongest on ease of use and core capability, held back by the thin integration list, a narrow AI layer, support without a phone line and the billing complaints that drag down sentiment. It scores below our Buffer and Hootsuite reviews in the same category. That gap is not about the calendar. Later's planning tools are its strongest part; the points go missing at the edges, where a team connects other software, needs a fast answer or wants its money back. Small teams that never touch those edges will feel the score is harsh.

Does Later have an API or a Zapier integration?+

No. Later Social has no public API, no webhooks and no Zapier integration; its integrations are mainly Canva, Dropbox and Mailchimp for Link in Bio.

No longer. Later stopped new X connections on July 30, 2025 and ended X support on August 28, 2025.

The bottom line

Pick Later if your social work is visual and starts on Instagram or TikTok, you want a calendar and grid preview that feel natural, and a Link in Bio page would replace another subscription. Count your brands first, because each Instagram account needs its own Social Set, then choose Starter for one brand or Growth for two brands, approvals and the inbox. Set a reminder before the trial ends, since it converts automatically and refunds are rare. Skip Later if you need X, which it dropped in 2025, an API it does not offer, deep customer care or listening across the open web.
